This was the first place I had EVER tried curry. yummmmm.

What can I say about Hurry Curry besides it being awesome?! What I get is like a combination of plates.  I get the spaghetti chicken plate except I substitute the spaghetti with white rice and the white sauce for mild curry. I can't take spicy food/sauces...although I will say that I have tried their spiciest and it's not bad at all!  Haha Why do I do this? Because I want those dam vegetables (mushroom, bell pepper...etc.)! Oh man and then when you mix the curry, rice, chicken and vegetables together= perfection in your mouth. Talking about it makes me hungry, arg why did I have to graduate and move back to long beach?! Why isn't there a Hurry Curry in long beach?! (wait, is there?!)

This place rocks and their pomegranate martini's are also good (i'm not much of a martini girl but I will drink H.C's).   Price wise I forget how much it is but I'm pretty sure it's reasonable..OH UCLA students get like 10% off, just remember to ask!

Parking: park in the neighborhood and walk your ass over here!

What can I say about this place? I've been coming here since 2000 and probably dropped more than 1000 in this place...It's changed a lot since I've been there but it's still pretty decent. The only thing that has changed is the price but I guess that is expected with the times.

*If you're a UCLA student/alumni. Don't forget to show your ID for a 10% off discount.

*The curry is pretty decent. It's not very spicy either.

*The best thing about this place is not the Curry. It's the Pasta. Hands down the only thing worth eating in this place is "Chicken Pasta (Extra Large).. Also, try the Neopolitan Spaghetti. It's pretty good if you want something tomato based!

* It's probably one of the best places to take a first date!
       1. Good atmosphere
       2. Chill music (The place is very hip)
       3. The tables are a bit small but it's aiight.

Overall, an oldie but a goodie. Just don't park in their parkin' lot. Walk like 100 feet and park in the residential area.

You can't go wrong with the Tokyo curry. Their definition of spicy isn't spicy at all, so you may want to notch up your preference a level. There's just something about the curry that makes you want more. That or they give you too little curry in a bowl. I have still yet to try the spaghettis so I'll be back to update on that. The only negative was that I was still hungry after my meal so I felt a little ripped off. But, still my favorite curry place at the moment.

Oh wait how can I forget.. parking sucks ass. Had to park in a residential neighborhood blocks away.

Yummy, yummy!  Comfort food!  It's salty, fatty, and delish, everything Japanese curry should be!

Ask for it "extra, extra spicy" cause it's still pretty mild.  Their fried chicken appetizer is quite good too (lightly battered and a bit sweet).

I used to come here as a kid and loved their little red, pickled radishes, pearl onions, clean, modern decor and side salads they give to every guest (citrus, soy dressing).

Perfect for a casual meal or not-so-serious date (stroll across the street to Yogurtland, or a couple doors down to Volcano Tea for dessert).  Oh, and if you're into comparisons, I prefer this place to Curry House hands down.

How can Happy Hour become Womp-womp Hour? When you receive a half-sized dish for half price. I'll let that simmer in your head for a bit....Yeah, it didn't make sense to me either.

Saketinis are delightful. I took 3 big sips instead of my usual 1 (blame the Azn glow). The sweetness goes well with the food in my opinion. My chicken cutlet curry definitely will bring me back to try more. Service is very friendly, the kind of friendly where your dishes are cleared promptly and your server asks if anyone needs anything when someone actually needs something. For $10 for a dish, I'll stick with the curry from a box and opt to make another visit when in a more celebratory mood.

Interesting point made by a colleague-- Why order mochi ice cream for dessert when you can just go across the street to Nijiya market and get it for cheaper?

Ate lunch and dinner here a couple of times with a friend who went to UCLA at the time.  Personally, my initial take on the food was that it wasn't all that great for what you were paying.  I guess you'd have to take into consideration eating in a place with nice decor and in a good plaza.  Yes, the curry is alright.  Portions aren't huge, which I guess that they are just enough to make you feel comfortable.  If you eat a lot or are really hungry you'd probably have to order more at this place.  The lunch or dinner specials are usually what people order.  I've tried the pork cutlet with curry - came with rice and salad.

The servers here are nice, and the atmosphere is pretty casual.  There are plenty of different people coming in and out of this place all the time, so it's popular.  I think I just had to agree to come here a second time because my friend had suggested it last minute.  I mean I wouldn't know too many other places that I'd like to go and eat in LA.  Honestly though, I think they'd get a 3.5 stars because the positive restaurant feel of the place.

The setting is very pleasant, clean and modern. The place seems to always be packed with crowds of students, and groups of friends.

All curry dishes can be ordered in Mild, Medium and Spicy levels. (secret: You can ask for extra spicy). I love to enjoy flavors and not kill my taste buds, so medium is perfect. Add more spice if you need to. In the words of Emeril Legasse, You can always add, but not take out. Wise man indeed.

Their curry is ok. Japanese curry is thicker and different from Thai, Indonesian, Singaporean or Indian curries. I prefer the 4 latter types than Japanese, a slight bit, but i love my curry. so...

I have ordered the plain chicken, fried chicken curry (better of the 2) and seafood. They were good at the time, but not memorable. Across the street, Curry house has earned the spot in my heart.

I used to order the same thing every single time I came here: Spinach and Mushroom Curry on rice (extra spicy please!).  Really can't go wrong with this one, especially if you love veggies, like I do, because they NEVER skimp out on the amount of spinach and mushrooms they throw in it (woohoo!).

But in my most recent venture out to Hurry Curry, I decided to be adventurous and try something other than my usual pick. Scary, I know.. but man, I am glad I did because I think I found a new favorite here: the Tokyo Curry (ground beef, veggies, and a hard boiled egg), (extra spicy, please!).  The thing about the Tokyo Curry that makes it extra delicious is not the ground beef, not the veggies, and not the egg... but surprise, surprise... it's actually the freshly chopped parsley they throw on top of the curry! Genius!

If you plan on going to Hurry Curry, I'd really recommend going during their Happy Hour (Mon-Fri; 3-6 PM) if you can for two reasons.
1) it's HH dur... $2 appetizers, saketinis, and beer! (lychee martini ftw!)
2) they're not as busy, so service is better and seating is quicker!

Yummy Hurry Curry.

There's something comforting about Japanese curry.  I especially love it with pork katsu and some really good rice.

Not gonna lie. This wasn't my first choice of venues. On a night when a friend and I were doing the "Sawtelle Shuffle"--aka looking for any place that had the Yankee Angels game on.

Keep in mind, this was a playoff game featuring a local sports team. You'd think this game would be on everywhere.

After walking around Sawtelle, thinking no place had the game, we walked in to Hurry Curry because from outside, it looked like they were showing the Sunday night football game. What we learned, is that once inside, there was another TV showing the Yankee Angels game.

The food was good. My friend even got a deal on her drink because we thought it was still happy hour. Also, we got coupons for 5 cent martinis on our next happy hour visit.

Positive! Positive! The only thing that keeps this from a five star review is that my water ran out and I had to borrow from my friend. Also, my rice was a touch undercooked.

Having said all that, the staff seemed friendly, and the food was decent for the most part. I left full and happy. Oh yeah, and the Yankees won!

This place was okay.  Portions and everything is decent. But I will ALWAYS remember how there was a FLYING cockroach right by our table/food. The staff was nice enough to immediately get rid of it, it would've been nicer if they gave us our meals for free cause we pretty much lost our appetite after getting attacked by it.  (hah, girls..)

They did give us each a free ice cream to "compensate". I think this was just an one time thing, they seem pretty clean.. might come back.

Good place to grab a quick cheap bite!
The food is good but I wouldn't say great. Portions are generous and the staff is nice.
Parking sucks at night even tho there is a required valet and good luck finding street parking.

I used to love hurry curry. Their spinach and mushroom curry is deelish. Then I discovered not a single one of their curries is vegetarian. They are all made with beef/chicken fat and broth. So sad. I especially loved those little salads they served before each meal.

So a warning to all you veggies: there is little to eat there and they make no mention that the curry isn't vegetarian (maybe this it's known among Japanese people that curry isn't veggie?).

I usually like the food here. i like their chicken pasta but it can do a number on y our stomach afterwards. I've never gotten food poisoning but i've had a couple of friends now who were sick for at least a day after. they also have a light eaters dish with even a little orange slice which is good.

happy hour is usually good if you like diff types of sake tinis. the pictures of japanese girls is kind of uncomfortable though. eh whatever floats your boat.

My friends and I love food and we especially love DELICIOUS food. We don't however favor lines, waits or small parking lots. Since Hurry Curry runs on the small side and doesn't seat large parties in a relatively decent amount of time, we normally just placed multiple orders of Chicken Pasta and Chicken Cutlet Curry to-go. Their generous portions (1 order of food would feed two people) and kind patient servers have won our loyalty. There just isn't anywhere else that sells their delectable Chicken Pasta. Spaghetti noodles, chicken, grilled onions, peas, corn, mushrooms and an incredible white sauce. All the ingredients you need to have a party in your mouth.

Hurry Curry, you would definitely make my list of "places or things that I miss from SoCal" list if I ever got around to making it.

When you have to flirt with the general manager and ask why they won't bring Hurry Curry to Orange County, you have to revisit your review and add a star to it.

I love Japanese cuisine. I love Japanese curry. I love Hurry Curry. I got the Tokyo Curry: ground beef and curry etc. and a bed of rice. There's a pic. The pic alone made my stomach growl. I couldn't get enough of it. I wanted more even after I was done.

When you travel over 30 miles on Labor Day just to eat at this place, that's love.

5 stars baby. Can't give them more or I would if I could.

My brother-in-law has never been here, so we brought him here since he wanted katsu curry.

My sister had the tarako ika spaghetti. My bro-in-law and I got the chicken katsu curry.

The chicken katsu is dry and disappointed my bro-in-law.
The only thing that made mine good was the spicy oil thing they gave me.
(I don't know what it is...the strong alcohol smell is intriguing. I thought it was gasoline).

Perhaps our mistake was comparing it to the food we eat in Japan, but the tarako ika spaghetti was...meh.
First off, too much nori was on the top. And it was completely soggy.
I regret not taking a picture. It looked like a huge hairball was used as topping.
And the spaghetti had way too much tarako.

It was like the food was prepared by a kid who loves tarako and nori...you know, they put too much in the food.

The service was meh too. The busboys are great. I feel bad that they don't get full % of the tip.

I use to come here all the time during college. And I mean all the time. I became a quick addict after being introduced. I told all my friends and they told theirs.

This dim little restaurant is awesome for the chicken cutlet curry. Their happy hour has reduced prices on miniature plates of appetizers and they have awesome service. I always liked their little pins you could get when you pay. I have one that says "I love curry." This place tends to get packed at night, but I never had to wait. Also, if you want your curry to be spicy, just ask for extra spicy oil. (The REALLY spicy curry you may order, is definitely not spicy at all.)

But after trying out other curry places, I'm not that much of a fan anymore of this place. Their curry isn't that sweet like I like it to be, and their curry sauce could be more generous. The price is alright, but trust, there are places with even a cheaper price with a larger portion (try Miyabi Tei!).

If you want sweet with more curry sauce, go across the street to Curry house, and if you really want a deal, go to Miyabi Tei in Costa Mesa.

AMAZING food, great customer service, quaint ambiance and good sake.  This restaurant is usually pretty busy but if you get in at a good time, the wait is very short.  I haven't tried any of the options other than the curry but I intend to stick strictly to the curry! Why change a good thing?!  I love that they have an option to replace your jasmine rice with brown rice.  Hurry Curry also provides a good selection for vegetarians (although I don't know about Vegan options).  I will always be a fan of restaurant!

I once ordered take out from Hurry Curry and they accidentally forgot to replace my white rice with brown rice.  When I got home, I realized this and called them back.  The worker on duty apologized profusely and said that they'd give me a free meal when I returned the next time.  Great customer service.  Highly recommended! :-)

Since the mom and pop shop down the street was closed and we were starving.. I recognized this name and thought.. I wanted to try this spot, why not?  This spot is very cute and modern.. which echos a chain.

Still.. chains can be good.  So.. I gave it a chance.

I ordered a squid and curry.. my friend ordered the popular chicken cutlet and curry.  The curry is identical.. no flavors of chicken or seafood to differentiate it.  So I imagine in the back.. there is a big bucket of curry made from a mix... when an order comes in, they plop squid, pork, etc. and mix in some of this curry in a bucket with it.  I think you can get the exact same result if you went to Ranch 99 and bought a Golden Curry and followed the instructions.

Wasn't impressed at all... and oily.. if you let the curry sit for about 10 minutes.. the oil comes to the surface.  Gross.

HUNGRY around 9:30 PM? and DAMN CURRY HOUSE IS CLOSED. sooo where would you go eat now? Hmmmmmm...HURRY CURRY ! Duh !

I came here around 9:45 PM...15 minutes before it was closed. And we got seated. I ordered the chicken cutlet curry which is basically the chicken katsu over at Curry House. Our salads came out first though...I'm not too fond of the salad here; too much sesame sauce so it's really tangy and salty.

Our food came out shortly after. And let me tell you, the chicken katsu here is pretty much the same over at Curry House MINUS the curry. I got mild but it's a bit spicier here than at Curry House. The chicken was well-fried. crunch. juicy. and yummy. The curry here is good as well but like I said it's a big spicier. I was kind of disappointed that Hurry Curry didn't have any toppings available at our table such as sun-dried tomato pickles.

The interior of this place is nicely-decorated. Everything is in harmony. Nothing is out of place and the tables were evenly spaced out so you won't have to worry about talking too loud and having other ppl around you eavesdropping

Overall, I would definitely go back here on another somewhat late-night pigout. Good food. friendly service. and a nice ambience.

I have to admit, I've only had their popular Chicken Cutlet Curry dish every time I've been here but, if it keeps me coming back for more, it must be good :) Although all other dishes I've seen look very good I can't seem to stray away from my favorite dish. Overall, the food is yummy, prices are decent, free valet, in cute little area to walk around afterwards, and usually not too crowded.  What else do you need?

It's all about the food - it is SO good. I don't know how they do it..."stone pot" secret or whatever but my curry never ever turns out as good as theirs - and it's a lil bit of spice to accent the flavor.

Despite the cons: small store - so yes, you sit kinda close to the ppl at the table next to you (lol), no greeting at door, it's usually more than what I pay for curry...BUT the food is still worth five stars. I can forgive just about anything...as long as the food is yummy-licious and it always is.

My parents aren't too big on curry and i brought them here, and they loved it. Though I personally thought my dad's "seafood" curry was a bit..."fishy?" - u have to really like that stuff cuz they seriously put a variety of seafood in that bowl. I usually get the chicken or beef curry - it's always perfect and the sauce is just right (not super thick or super thin) Sometimes I wish they'd give more rice, but in a way it's good that they don't so I can watch how much I eat...and I usually eat it all. Also, I love the little side salads too - it's small and.. free! hehe. The katsu is also really good. And yes, this place does get packed so if you beat the rush - you will have a much better experience. Plus, the waiters seem a lot more attentive when they don't have a huge line waiting at the door.

Another place I miss since moving away from West LA.  Everytime I've been here I've enjoyed everything I ate!  Here's the rundown:

Fried calamari.  DELICIOUS!
Garden salad with the house ginger dressing. DELICIOUS!
Chicken cutlet curry (ask for it HOT, it's really not that spicy!) DELICIOUS!
Chicken pasta.  My favorite! That white sauce...it's making me drool just thinking about it.  Sometimes it's overkill with the bell peppers but I can overlook that because it's DELICIOUS!
Green tea iced tea.  DELICIOUS!

Ok one star taken off because I hate parking around there.  That lot sucks, I usually find street parking on the streets behind the strip mall.  Ah...so close to being perfectly delicious.

Ok so here's the deal: I order the same thing every time I go (the chicken curry mild- don't judge me) so I can't really go on and on about their food selection. What I do know is that it is ALWAYS delicious and as such has earned a place in my heart. Also the staff are awesome and I'm really very partial to their Shirley Temple, because sometimes Diet Coke just doesn't cut it.

Added Bonus: there is a Yougurtland right across the street. I'd say the only downside is the cage match they call parking. But if you're man (or woman) enough to brave that, then I see no reason you can't enjoy the tasty morsels of Hurry Curry.

Good curry! Make sure you ask for vegetables in the sauce... without it, the sauce is pretty weak...
Got the fried shrimp curry, they give you 5 pieces which is actually a good amount compared to other places.
Their chicken pasta is popular and good, but its too much to finish by myself, as in you get tired of it halfway through...
you can smoke cigarettes outside too

Before when I came I had an order to go and I saw a bit of how helpful the workers are but eating here I saw it even more. We had our drinks refilled almost before we realized they were empty.

I also found more to like about the place as in the...

Interesting gyozas-they seemed to be fried.

Curry- I had the seafood which was full of squid, shrimp and scallops. The idea to have it in a bowl is great as I think it gives you more. At first I was wondering if I would be able to have it all with my rice.

Another tasty appetizer is the fried chicken which was tasty enough to be a meal in of itself.

GREAT food...GREAT service....HUGE portions! This place is just so yummy.  Now that I have been there I crave it almost daily!  I got the chicken cutlet curry...which I am now having dreams about it was so good.  They give a lot of rice with each curry dish so you will most likely have leftovers.  Try the lobster bisque...it's so good. It is seriously better than the bisque I have tried at fancy restaurants in LA.  Coming from a girl from Maine...TRY IT!

I went here for lunch over the weekend.  I used to frequent this place when I used to live in the area.  It is exactly as I remembered it.  Located in a strip-mall in the "Little Osaka" area of West LA. Several businesses have come and gone in this area but Hurry Curry is still standing strong. As soon as we entered we were greeted by the cute hostess who told us to sit anywhere we wanted.

I ordered the Chicken Cutlet with Hot Curry. ($9.95)  Included was a small salad with soy ginger dressing that was brought out right away. (http://static.px.yelp....)

Few minutes later my chicken cutlet with curry came out.  The cutlet is served on a large plate with a generous portion of rice.(http://static.px.yelp....)

The curry itself is served separately in a bowl with a small ladle.  (http://static.px.yelp....).

I asked for the picked radish and our waitress brought out an assorted plate.  It consisted of the pickled radish, shallots, and raisins. (http://static.px.yelp....)

The cutlet was excellent, lightly breaded with panko bread crumbs and fried to a nice golden brown color (http://static.px.yelp....). The chicken was also moist and tender.  The only reason this place does not get 5 stars is while the curry here is good, it's not the best I've had.

The service was excellent, water was refilled promptly even when our glasses were only half-filled and our waitress stopped by to see how the food was.

Overall the curry here is consistently good and have always left satisfied.

For a chain restaurant located in strip mall, this place isn't bad!  For a first visit, I would suggest one of the chicken curries.  My personal favorite is the tarako ika, which is not a curry but involves cod roe and noodles, not everyone's cup of tea perhaps but an interesting dish for those who wish to boldly go.

It's also a good place for takeout.  (Dine-in is OK, a little noisy but about what you'd expect from a place like this.)  Parking lot can be tight but there's plenty of street parking around the area.

3 stars, but one added for having a happy hour...

So I was walking down Sawtelle looking for a place to eat for lunch when I scope out this place from across the street. "Finally, " I think to myself, "a curry place!" Maybe it's just me, but being from Hawai'i (where there are an abundance of great curry places), it seems that the curry places up here are too few and far between to what I am accustomed to.

So, giddy like a school girl, I head over and take a gander at the menu sitting in the front window. A little more pricey than I expected (plates are around $9) in comparison to Hawai'i, but hey, it's still pretty cheap AND it was HAPPY HOUR (which goes on from 3-6pm)!

I was pretty hungry so I got the calamari to start and the katsu curry (chicken cutlet curry) plate. When my calamari came out, a part of me was disappointed because I kinda expected it to come with that one sweet and spicy sauce that you usually get at most places as opposed to cocktail sauce you usually get with your shrimp at Sizzlers, but it was still pretty good.

When the katsu curry came out, my first impression was on how mediocre the portion was (again, my standards are set to those of Hawai'i, where the portions are huge and only surpassed by the quality). However, it's not too small to really warrant complaining about, and hey, this IS Los Angeles and everyone here seems to be on some type of diet so I guess the portions fit the city's lifestyle. I really liked how they give the curry in a separate bowl though.

I'd give this place three stars but it gets an extra star because of the happy hour. It's really hard for me to rate it high, not because it's not a good place, but simply because curry's a dish that's difficult to mess up and you can make this yourself for much cheaper at home (one of my favorite dishes to cook!).

But nonetheless, this place is pretty good, has a nice assortment of curry dishes and I'll definitely be coming back again soon to try something new!

Likes: Portions. Curry sauce in a separate bowl. Some greens so that I don't feel like I'm being totally unhealthy. Outdoor seating.

Dislikes: opens at 11!

Everything in this strip mall opens at 11AM. That sucks when you are hungover and walked over only to discover you must sit on the sidewalk and wait an hour before eating. Service was quick and friendly. Had the pork cutlet. A little too oil soaked as compared to my friend's order. Tasty nonetheless. Curry sauce on the side is also a nice touch. Portions are excellent. Felt a bit pregnant afterwards.

I've never had any other Japanese Curry so I can't really compare this place to anywhere else, but I don't care, from what I've had this place is pretty damn good. I walk out of here in a complete food coma everytime. The chicken cutlet curry is ohhhh so good but ridiculously filling. Almost in a bad way. Also, I really don't like that they charge extra for brown rice. Getting a side of brown rice instead of white rice should not cost the same as getting "extra rice" or adding veggies. The parking situation here used to be awful but the strip mall has since gotten a complimentary valet so its really not an inconvenience at all.

I *love* this place. Their cutlet curries are incredible, their appetizer salad (included with the meal) are always tangy and nice, and the ambiance is simplistic and cool. If I'm in the mood, I request my curry super hot and order a nice cold beer to balance it out.

I prefer the Pasadena location to this one, simply because it's not in a cramped strip mall. But whose complaining?

3.5stars (but not enuf to be given 4stars)

In comparison to across the street, Curry House, I luve Hurry Curry better, simply because of the Curry!!! It's much thicker and actually it tasted like the ready-made curry that you found at Nijiya, but if they cooked it for us, I'll take it, I'm a lazy cooker.

I always got the Tonkatsu Cutlet, but I've tried the Tokyo Curry, Seafood, yet tonkatsu is the best, I think Chicken is also good cause it's just like tonkatsu (pork cutlet), it's breaded. Each order comes with a salad, I don't know what sauce they used, but their salads always taste good to me, which was great cause I hardly like eating vegetables. I also like their gyozas for appetizers.

Service as a group is never great, because when my tonkatsu was out, my curry was still not being served and some people ordered chicken but only got the curry, there's always mistake bound to happen, but we're in groups, so sometimes people can't keep track of what has come out and what hasn't.

The complex has a valet parking, but if you don't come during peak times (lunch and dinner), parking can be found easily for free around the area, just be patience enough to circle a couple of times and you'll be good and saves you some moola for valet.

Hurry Curry serves curry in a hurry.
I'm all furry and my vision is blurry.
5 Vodka Tonics and I'm slurry.
Sup?!

I thought Hurry Curry was in between Meh and Whatevs. People love them at Yelp, so the sticker says. There were quite a few people in the restaurant, so I will concede to it's popularity. I just didn't find the food to be anything special, remarkable or different.

I ordered the chicken curry with rice. The rice mound is served separately from the curry; then you ladle the curry onto the rice and enjoy. I thought the curry was bland...even when I asked for medium heat, it didn't represent that spicy curry flavor.

I did try my partner's chicken cutlet, which is breaded and fried then topped off with curry sauce. I preferred that over my dish. I also ordered a Miso soup which was mediocre.

The service was speedy and I believe we were in and out of this place in less than 30 minutes. Prices are decent and the menu offers more varieties of curry dishes to choose from. I will jump on the bandwagon and recommend the chicken cutlet w/ curry sauce.

Hurry Curry is located in a strip mall which also houses a myriad of Japanese restaurants. So, if curry is not your fancy, you have options!

9:30 on friday, no waiting for a table.

Well, at I can say is that it's better than Curry house in almost every single way.

Beef curry with vegetables ($10). Good stuff.
