This art museum is truly fantastic given the size of Huntsville.. Seems like the type of museum one would find in a mid-sized (1 to 2 million) city, not a small city like Huntsville.. The museum gets truly world class traveling exhibits (I saw an outstanding Ansel Adams exhibit there once, for example), and also features some very high quality and interesting art from Alabama or featuring the local area.. In a nice location also, good area of town to walk around with a "park-like" atmosphere. I give it 5 stars not because it will compete with the Louvre or Hermitage, but because if you are in or near Huntsville and like art at all, you definitely should go!!!

A great art museum that's only getting better. Although I miss the grassy meadow that used to be where the museum is today, the building is beautiful and the museum did deserve it's own building separate from the VBCC. Thanks to the improved space, the museum has been getting more and more impressive exhibits, including a recent one featuring pieces from the collection of the Uffizi. I also liked the Buccellati silver animals, which are part of the permanent collection. Make it the cornerstone of an afternoon walk around the park and the Big Spring.
