Try the singapore mein fun. Its good and they give you apound of it. Egg drop soup is really good. The egg rolls are good and not too greasy.Very pleasant people. Not a huge fan of their sushi.

I went on a Friday night with 6 coworkers around 9 PM. We had to wait about 10-15 minutes for a table, which was no big deal since we could grab drinks by the bar. It was a nice atmosphere - definitely not what I had expected.
The drinks were all pretty good, especially for $4.50 (HH price). The bartender messed up our order but it looked like an okay martini so we didn't bother asking him to redo it. There was another person helping out the main bartender who was fun and joking around with everyone.
The waiter seemed to rush us a bit, but it was understandable since we were there late and for a long time. He was nice enough to take a picture of the group and even joked a little even though it was little after closing time. I ordered a yellowtail roll, spicy tuna roll and spicy valentine's roll. It was so cheap! The rolls aren't that large but it was decent considering the price we were paying for them ($2-$3). I would skip out on the spicy valentine roll though - nothing exciting.
Everyone seemed to like their sushi & dishes: chicken lettuce wraps, calamari with peppercorn (they're ring shaped and thin but not bad), shu mai, vegetable lo mein, sweet and sour chicken.
I'll definitely come again for happy hour sushi & drinks, and I definitely want to try their other regular priced rolls the next time I come!Listed in: Restaurants (NJ), Happy Hour

I used to have lunch at Hunan when I worked in the area a few years ago and remembering it fondly I decided to check them out again. I was disappointed - while the food seems fresh it just does not taste that great. In the past I would have ranked them at a solid 4 stars since the food was fantastic, now it is just edible.

Love that it's HALF PRICE sushi rolls Sunday-Thursday all day and after 8pm Fridays and Saturdays.
Don't recommend dining in for the sushi rolls though, they take too damn long to bring your order. We waited almost an hour one time, never again. Also, wished they had sashimi included in the half price.
But other than that, love it. Great fish, great price. -

I usually get this as a TAKE OUT order, when i visit my friend in the area.
The food is really good. I think its the best Chinese / Sushi option in the area. They always pack the food great, and give crunchy noodles a & duck sauce which is nice. They also have half-price basic sushi on certain nights & times. -

I like Hunan Gourmet... especially for happy hour! After 9 PM there are half priced drinks and half priced sushi. A $4.50 cosmo is tough to come by in NJ. The sushi is decent, with happy hour featuring the regular rolls such as spicy tuna, spider, white tuna, etc. Not top notch, but definitely a great value for the few dollars you pay for each roll
.
The Chinese is usually very good too. We've had maybe one meal (general chow's chicken) that seemed a little too 'over fried' but the other dishes with seafood were much better.
I also like the interior, definitely gives it a more energetic, hip feel to the place. The wait is never over 15 min., but there is a full bar to grab a drink if a wait presents. -

Good Chinese food. I happen to like the hot and sour soup best around hands down! They need to work on their hibachi too much soy sauce. Need to have some different flavored sauces while cooking. The Chinese menu is pretty good, I like the food here, What ever happened to hand crafted cocktails? I dislike when you order a tiki style drink and they pull out a bottle of pre mixed juices and touch it with a little rum or whatever alcohol is called for in the specific drink. why not craft the drink??

I really enjoy Hunan Gourmet. It's probably close to the best Chinese food I've had. Anyone I've ever taken here has ended up really liking it and wanting to go back again. I've had a few things from here but my favorite is the Grand Marnier Shrimp..so delicious. I also like that they have a half priced sushi menu, which is pretty decent as far as half priced sushi goes. As far as the atmosphere goes, it's pretty modern and hip. The staff is friendly, and there is a pretty decent drink menu available as well.

Definitely a cut above most other Chinese food. The service is incredibly fast, its worth checking out. They have really good sushi too, and everything is fresh. They don't deliver, but they have take out. If you're looking for anything from a simple dinner to a quick meal, this place is great.

Amazing Chinese!! This place is a little classier than most Chinese, and does not deliver (but they do take out), but it's worth driving over to pick it up. It's soooo delicious! Not at all greasy, even the orange flavor beef is not as greasy as it usually is and it's deep fried! Also, their steamed dishes are excellent. A little pricier, but well worth the extra few bucks!

We have been going to Human Gourmet for over 10 years. It has been one of the most consistent Chinese places we have eaten at. I can honestly say I never had a bad meal there. Then, they got the bright idea to remodel and add hibachi. BAD IDEA!! Worst hibachi I have ever had. The food was horrible and the chef was almost a joke. I kept looking around for a hidden camera thinking we were being punked! Have not been back since. For their sake I hope the table dining is a good as it always was.

I'm puzzled by the 5-star reviews of Human Gourmet here. I've been living 5-minutes away from this restaurant for 10 years now, and NONE of my friends like this restaurant. I've eaten there once and that was enough for me and my wife. Mediocre food with indifferent service, and deteriorating decor that was never updated. There are far better alternatives available, the best of which is the West Lake restaurant in Matawan (http://www.westlakesea...). Even Sunny Palace and Crown Palace are MUCH better than Human Gourmet.

I have NEVER had better Chinese food than at the Hunan Gourmet. It's location (in Manalapan, Englishtown is the local post office and they share a zip code) in a strip mall on Route 9 is not the best in terms of being attractive but everything else is superb. The decor is elegant, the food delicious, the service fast and friendly and the drinks strong and tasty. Debbi Faye threw me a surprise party, off premises, and she had them cater it for us and everybody, like 40 people, still talk about that being the best food they ever had at a party.

The food we ordered was really good. The portions were large and I had plenty of left overs. They also served some of the strongest drinks I have ever had. We also tried some of the sushi since it was half price that evening. It was quite good and I would definitely go back again on 1/2 price sushi nights. The restaurant also runs a lot of other drink and food specials throughout the week. I definitely plan to go back on another evening to try those out.
