This one nails it for me in terms of nostalgia. Years ago, I became enamored with a certain book called "Humphrey: the Wayward Whale." It was a great piece on the humpback who swam inland from the SF Bay and ended up near Rio Vista. Long story short, Humphrey's story had a happy ending, and the town of Rio Vista decided that he deserved a stone monument for his efforts. You can still visit it at the Rio Vista harbor. Gotta love Humphrey...

I remember when Humphrey "came to town", because I was the only 10-year old in Stockton who didn't get to go see him.  That was my opinion at the time, at least.  If I remember correctly, I was mad at my Dad for weeks about that.  The monument is cool, though, right down from Foster's Big Horn.  My kids love to go see all the road-kill in that place.  Oh God, what are they going to resent me for?  I'm sure they will find something.
