This place is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants.
It's small, narrow and perfect for a breezy, summer day.
My hummus-loving friends and I LOVE this place for catch-up sessions.
There's nothing like a good meal with good friends that makes you feel so great after!
It's priced to perfection and their hummus begs to be shared.
With about 7 different types, they certainly know their stuff when it comes to the creamy chickpeas.
Last time I was there, I had their falafel wrap and it was out of this world.

Explosive flavors but never heavy.

Seriously, they make being healthy so incredibly easy.

First time here although I certainly have walked past a gazillion times. I just didn't think that hummus alone would do it for me. But, what the hell...I decided HK....gotta write about all the restaurants.
A small place with an exposed brick wall...and someone said "hello" when I walked in....that in itself won me over.
I ordered the most expensive dish on the menu...ground lamb and chicken in a casserole with something green (thank God no lettuce). It came in a hot skillet with rice and warm whole wheat pita (I could have had white flour...but I guess the whole wheat made me feel like I was doing something good for myself). The food was GREAT! The server was pleasant and SMILED! (Read some of my reviews of other restaurant servers!). And the price....with tax, about$15. How cool is that. Good, wholesome food and a really good price.
I'm a fan after only 1 visit!

Hummus Kitchen comes down a peg for less than stellar performance.

I mainly come here for the Shakshuka (God Bless You) which you may know is supposed to be eggs medium poached - still runny - over a tomato, onion, pepper and paprika stew.  Lately, the eggs have been fully poached, the stew has been a little burned and the service has been not so hot.  To illustrate my point, our cauliflower was delivered to another table and when we pointed this out to the waitress, she merely grabbed it from that table and brought it to us.

Yikes.

Please pick up your game Hummus Kitchen.  I like you guys and want to feel encouraged to return.

I enjoy eating a whole roasted suckling pig with its crispy crackling skin and juicy meat that just strips off the bone. You will not find this here.

This is the home of the $10 hummus meal, Mediterranean appetizers and veggie salads galore. Pork is not welcome, but this is a nice option for those who are seeking out to live a healthier, veggie friendly lifestyle. The cozy and exotically decorated restaurant is perfect for a small party and has a short list of delicious plates.

With a few friends, we shared a Super Healthy salad with quinoa (obsessed!), roasted butternut squash, dried apricots, walnuts and a drizzle of their yogurt as an appetizer. The portion is quite large so it works as an entrée too. I had the falafel wrap, which I found quite delicious and very filling. I didn't really enjoy the pickles in them, but I can see why a bit of the sourness from the wrap complements the other ingredients. Ultimately, the best part of this wrap is the famous green tahini sauce. If they sold it by the bottles, I would gladly purchase one in a hot second.

So you ask why people would pay $8-$9 for a plate of hummus? Because it tastes so good with it's creamy silkiness and it comes in a variety of flavors with a side of whole wheat or white pita bread. Also, the owners of this restaurant need to pay rent too, ya know. The Eggplant hummus flavor was delicious. It's plated beautifully with a bowl of smoothly pureed hummus topped with roasted eggplants and a drizzle of really good olive oil. We finished that in a heartbeat, scooping out every bit of that hummus with the pita.

The little candles on the tables and the pillows on the benches make this for a very comforting place to have a nice conversation too. Service is friendly and prompt. If I'm going through a semi-detox, you will find me dining here sans pig.

$8.95 lunch with a choice of a side and a main, your choice? Completely amazing!

I never thought hummus could have so many different, delicious options, but Hummus Kitchen opened my eyes. Mushroom hummus had mushrooms on top and so, so delicious. The pita was thick and fresh. The salad I got was amazing as well - cucumbers, tomatoes and other stuff.

I wish San Francisco had this!

There is nothing more satisfying after an hour of sweating in a too-hot room in variations of downward dog (what sane person does this to herself voluntarily, right?) than Hummus Kitchen's eponymous mixed platter with whole wheat pita. Seriously. You're sweaty and tired and feeling very detoxed, and all you want is some still-warm, pillowy pita and four delicious hummus mixes (mushroom, fava, eggplant, and chickpea) and maybe one of HK's delicious homemade drinks (the sangria is tops, and the lemonades [mint, pomegranate] were ok).

I've come here at least twice a week since I discovered it and have yet to tire of its fresh, warm, and filling fare. The falafel plate is also delicious (one of my friends who does yoga with me swears by it).

This is also a great place for vegetarians, as most (if not all) of its food is meat-free.

This place is amazing! Cheap, tasty, authentic.

Try the arak drink...it's strong and tasty. We weren't super hungry, so we ordered the hummus platter and the random salads platter. Everything was tasty, and I've lived in Israel before, so I can say it's pretty close to authentic.

The hummus from this place will KNOCK YOU OUT.  Literally.  It's infused with some kind of divine hypnosis powder of deliciousness, or something.  I don't even know how else you can describe it.

Seriously, the hummus alone is worth coming here to try.  Quite possibly the best hummus I've had in my life.   Not to mention, the decor is clean and chic and pretty damn sweet for a narrow alley restaurant.

My new #1 spot for taking out my veggie friends.

I took advantage of my evening home alone last night and ordered something the significant other probably won't be on board with anytime soon...take-out from Hummus Kitchen.

I have a thing for dinner that feels like a "snack"...tapas, things to dip, etc.  I ddon't know where that came from but hummus fits the bill.
They have an appetizer trio where you can pick three of their appetizers for $8-and-change.  I selected the Bureka (stuffed pastry with feta, eggplant and dried tomato...I only saw/tasted feta though), Mediterannean salad (chopped cucumbers, tomatoes, onion with a mint/lemon dressing that's amazing!) and green tahini (tahini with parsely).  The portions were so huge that I could barely make a dent!  I also ordered the Egyptian hummus which filled one of those huge aluminum take-out containers.  SO big.  Both the appetizer sampler and hummus entree came with two thick pitas...four in total.  You can request vegatables to substitute the pita which is a nice touch.  A note on the Egyptian hummus...I'm pretty sure my order came with black beans instead of fava beans which gave it a little bit of a mexican flavor but I was okay with it...It was still tasty.

As a  bonus, my order came with a frozen lemon/mint drink that was so good!  And free which made it better.

Needless to say, my fridge is completely full of leftovers today and I only spent $15!  Definitely not the norm in Manhattan...

It's not likely that I crave hummus or Mediterranean cusine, but this Midtown West eatery is quite the retreat. If you're in search for healthy food and budget friendly prices while meals are presented in huge portions, Hummus Kitchen is just for you!

Like all places I visit, I'm either taken or broken by the atmosphere. The Hummus Kitchen fell anything but short of extreme comfort, simplicity and an uncomplicated decor. The earthy ambiance sets a tone of ease, with the addition of a deliciously effortless menu; hummus with plump, fresh out of the oven pitas, green salads, herbs and spices that inspire your palate. When here, one is not afraid to try a new dish; Shakshuka Classic: Mediterranean tomoatoes, peppers and onion stew, served with two eggs over easy. Nearly licked the bowl clean it was that zesty!

Hummus Kitchen will leave you impressed, so be sure to check it out next time you're in the hood.

Till next time, happy eating!

I got there around 10 pm on a weekday, to meet with some friends that were there before me and have eaten already, as I sat, a waiter told me "ill be there in a second", that turned into 40 minutes, seemed that he was the only server, or i was blind. i got p and went to the end of the place (by the kitchen) and asked if someone could take my order, a waitress came, took the order (mixed platter 8.50) and left. when she came with what i thought, would be enough for me, i discover a plate that would feed a 2 yr kid!, I ate it all but it was more like an appetizer instead of a PLATTER!, to me was no relation with price/amount/quality.
therefore not worth the second trip.

So wonderful!  Great food, great prices, great ambiance, great service.  Yay! We ordered a variety of items to taste and every single one was bursting with flavor and freshness.  I'm a fan of the warm pita bread and our waitress was so great about watching over us and recommending food which she said with a wonderful accent that made it all feel that much more authentic.  The white wine by the glass we ordered was lovely as was the fresh baklava. I will absolutely be back.

A small and adorable restaurant that serves fresh, healthy and wholesome food! The price is right and the service was great! I ordered the quinoa salad and was very pleased.  My table shared an order of the hummus sampler. The hummus was delicious and the wholewheat pita bread was warm, fluffy and consumed by everyone quickly. Our server was friendly, attentive and very helpful with the menu. The music was an eclectic mix that kept us entertained during our dining experience. I look forward to heading back soon and trying some more of the items on the menu.

Hummus Kitchen (http://www.hummuskitch...), an authentic Mediterranean vegetarian restaurant located on 9th Avenue in Hells Kitchen, is a clean, warm, and cozy lounge-like space with great food and terrific service.

For lunch, two of us shared a Mixed Sampler (consisting of two crisp falafel served on a bed of taboule; one large floret of smokey, tender roasted cauliflower; babganush; beets with shredded feta; tahini blended with parsley; and a triangular stuffed puff pastry) for $8.95 and a Hummus Kitchen (consisting of portions of the chickpean hummus, mushroom hummus, egyptian hummus, and eggplant hummus - each served in a tiny dish topped with paprika, olive oil and parsley - and accompanied by two warm, light, and fluffy whole wheat pitas) for $8.95.

The food was unbelievably good -- fresh and bursting with flavor -- and served quickly by attentive and friendly waitstaff.

Deliciousness.

The Fantastic:  The falafel were perfect.  Just crisp on the outside, the perfect consistency on the inside.  The green tahini sauce for dipping was also great.  The hummus with mushrooms was amazing.  An amazing lunch special seals the deal.

The Average:  Tight quarters.  The hummus with fava beans was a bit overrated, but was still tasty.  The mushroom hummus was much better.  Iced tea was full of mint and lemon, but was still rather bland.  Maybe I like my tea steeped longer?

The Horrid:  Nada!

All in all, a nice lunch.  I will definitely be ordering take out / delivery from them soon.

A cozy and nice place to pick up a relatively cheap and delicious meal.  Their lunch special is very affordable and their food is pretty darn good.

I ordered the couscous tabule side, mushroom hummus entree, and lemonana drink while my boyfriend got the bureka pastry, hummus sampler, and a side of falafel.  Their hummus is soooo creamy and smooth though the flavor is pretty bland.  If not for the toppings, (the mushrooms were delicious), I don't think it'd be that great.  But I am a huge fan of the texture.  The couscous was eh, so-so, a very small portion, nothing to rave about.  The lemonana drink was soooo gooooood though- lemonade with crushed mint and ice.  Crisp and refreshing - definitely don't pass that up if you go.  Their pita is puffier than most, more bread-like than flatbread like but served warm and soft.  I enjoyed it very much.  I tried my boyfriend's bureka pastry and it was very delicious - I would definitely recommend this as your "appetizer" for the lunch special.  Their falafel is also very tasty.

Overall, I had a pretty good experience here and would probably drop by often if I lived around there.

While on my raw diet, I decided to have a light sushi dinner comprising of 2 salmon sushi (yes the rice was cooked but you're raw when you're about 80% raw ;p)

Anyway, I guess I wasn't exactly satisfied with the salmon sushi and thought I'd have a little snack supplement at Hummus Kitchen. (The last time I passed by, I had made a mental note to myself to check it out the next time I was in the area - this WAS the next time).

I thought it would just be a simple take out spot much like the Hummus Place but was surprised to find this to be a sit-down dining spot so was almost apologetic to the waitress that I won't be having a full meal. But the waitress was most nice and also it was still early and only 1 other table was occupied.

In the end, I caved in to temptation and ordered a shakshuka with eggs, onions and tomatoes and spinach! It was delicious.

While the waitress was really nice and attentive throughout it all. Upon my order, she asked how I'd like my eggs, and I replied over easy... but ended up getting both of them totally cooked which defeated the purpose of asking for my preference. Perhaps some miscommunication OR the chef screwed up and cooked the eggs a tad too long (in which case, I really wouldn't have minded keeping the cooked egg dish as I hate to have good food tossed out but). Whatever it was, I guess I would have appreciated a little extra attentiveness on the part of the waitress to follow through with what was actually ordered.

Delicious, reasonably priced food in a quaint setting, Hummus Kitchen is one of my favorite places to have a leisurely lunch. Their menu may be short, but it is full of tasty options.

As I have only gone here for lunch, I usually take advantage of their lunch deal - appetizer & entree for $8.95 (until 5 pm). I'm a loyal fan of their falafel wrap, with tabouli on the side. The wrap is very big - I usually just eat half and bring the rest home for dinner. If you like heat, you will LOVE the "green tahini". I am middle eastern, and my mom made a huge variety of food and sauces - but I have no idea what is in this sauce. it doesn't matter - it is ADDICTIVE!

I don't think they serve alcohol, but their minty iced teas & lemonades complement the food much better than any liquor/wine would. With their open air seating, you can almost imagine 8th Ave to be a side street in Turkey... almost!

Maybe I'm just used to falafel and hummus from Halal lunch carts, but I just couldn't get into it.  The service was slow and the falafel was too thick and slightly cold.  The mushroom hummus was good, the other hummus' were not.

I didn't like that you had to separately order a pita...and you just got one.  Plus, the pita didn't hold up well to dipping into the hummus, but at least it tasted good.  Stay away from that green signature drink unless your really want to try something that odd.  Also, the drinks were small and lacked ice.

I went for dinner, but may try the lunch special to give the place a second shot.

Love love love this place! Have been looking for a local hummus place where I dont feel like I'm paying for cardboard pita, and the items are actually tasty.
I especially love the shakshuka (the egg white version) and the lemonana. Deelish!
The only thing I will say is the waitress is super-nice, but service can be on the slow side...so don't go there if you are in a major rush.

At last, a delicious, all-vegetarian, inexpensive dining establishment in Hell's Kitchen! Sorry, Zen Palate, but only one of those adjectives applies to you.

Tasty hummus, smokey babaganush, decent falafel, refreshing tabbouleh -- so far so good. The green tahini is the secret, special treat in my book, and I'm always a fan of their roasted cauliflower and pomegranate lemonade. You can get a plate of hummus and pita for $8, and it's perfect-sized, meal-wise. Mazze are $4 each, or you can get a tasting platter of 8 for $8.50 (pre-selected for you). A mix of marinated and oil-cured olives are complimentary, and the menu also offers three shakshukas. Mmmmm...

Why not five stars? I'm not a big fan of their pita. I have Syrian in-laws and have grown to love their thin, soft pita (it's almost lavash-like). I'm still fine with the thicker, chewier kind, but Hummus Kitchen serves the thickest, chewiest pita I've ever eaten. It still tastes good -- don't get me wrong -- but it's more like regular bread to me than pita. And when I'm eating hummus, I want pita!

Nevertheless, Hummus Kitchen is a welcome veg option and will now be my go-to spot for cheap pre-theater dinners in HK!

Loves it my precious! This is my go-to place when I don't feel like cooking, and it never disappoints.  I usually get the falafel to start, with the mushroom hummus as my main, which is enough to split unless you're both famished, or good enough for 2 meals if you're not in to sharing your hummus (you won't want to after you taste the mushroom hummus!).  I love that they offer whole wheat pitas, which are always warm and fluffy.  I tried the appetizer sampler (the "Mixed Platter") last time I was there and they were seriously all great. I think I would like to try the Babaganush as a full appetizer next time - it was quite creamy and delicious.  The Feta and Beets and Tabule were also both great. Whatever you get, be sure to try the hot sauce - zesty and delish!!

The staff are always attentive and polite without being obnoxious. I've never encountered a rude server here.

And finally, if you want a glass of totally drinkable wine while you snack, they have 2 choices for $5 each, which is happy hour pricing all the time!  When dining in, I usually go for a glass of the Israeli wine, just to complete the cultural experience. Not sure about the beer..... I'm a "wineaux."

Hummus Kitchen = Highly recommended!

Finally, a cheap and good Mediterranean place in the HK neighborhood. Yum. Not only do I love hummus, but their falafel is amazing. Not fried to the point where you'll get a heart attack, but green and full of color and flavor, and soft. It comes with this green tahini sauce that is great.

We also got to Shaksuka White, which is like baked egg whites on a skillet with tomatoes, peppers, and onion stew. It was so flavorful and robust. Yum! Imagine a mediterranean breakfast style omelette on egg whites where you can eat it on a piece of whole wheat pita.

We dined around 4pm, and they were still offering the lunch special, which is an appetitzer and main plate for only $8.50. If that's not a steal, I don't know what is.

I can't wait to try all the other things on the menu!  Healthy place too.

The decor inside is also lovely. Mediterranean feel with the furniture, light fixtures, and music playing in the background. The service was excellent as well. For two people, our bill came out to less than $17, and we were more than stuffed. Had to pack our light hummus back with us!

So glad I came here based on the reviews.  Gracias Yelpers!
My sister and I (both vegetarian) shared the roasted cauliflower, falafel (why do I always crave it?!), couscous and the salad - all were delicious and fresh.  I saw another review about the service being slow, which freaked me out a little, but we arrived at 6:15pm  and made it to our show which started at 7pm - so if you're in a crunch, eat assured.  I'll definitely be back to try the hummus.  Such a cute place too with a nice atmosphere...be careful though - you might walk right past it!

PROS:  All-vegetarian, diverse menu with lots of hummus and non-hummus dishes.  "Just right" portion sizes of interesting, flavorful ethnic food.  Very fair prices.  Good service.

CONS:  A bit small but it's NYC so that's to be expected...not favorable for large groups.

I'm a sucker for health food and this table full of hummus showed up at my gym one day. The hummus was good, good enough for me to trek into Hell's kitchen the very next day to check this place out. I was expecting a really tiny hole in the hole but the interior is actually an upscale little Mediterrian spot....cosy, would be a good word to describe it. I had the shakshuka (egg whites)....yum! I also bought 3 friends with me and tried a little of what they had. My friends are meat lovers but I was glad that they were still satisfied with the meal, not to mention it was cheap.

Shout out to the hummus guy, who remembered me from the gym. Very sweet that the orange crunch noodle dessert was on the house. Never had a dessert like that before, very similar to baklavah.

It was great. Even among places specializing in hummus.

I stopped in here over my lunch break today after seeing a string of positive Yelp reviews. It was a great decision. I arrived just before the lunch rush and was seated immediately, and it looked as if there was never a time when you would've needed to wait for a table. I got the lunch special, which gave a main hummus dish and an appetizer for $9, choosing the Mediterranean salad and the Egyptian hummus. The salad was good and tasty, and though the bowl in which it came was relatively small, it was literally overflowing. They didn't skimp. The hummus, though, was obviously the centerpiece. They did a great job of balancing the strength of flavor of the topping (which was again very generously provided) and the hummus itself; neither one overpowered the other, and both tasted great individually and in combination. The hummus was good and creamy, and served properly warm. The pita, too, was obviously fresh-baked and excellent in its own right. Portions were very well-sized, too, as I left full and ran out of pita just as I was finishing off the last of the hummus.

I should take a moment to point out the downsides of the place, though. Seating was cramped, and I was pressed right up against the wall in my chair, without the opportunity to move out much without blocking the path of the servers. Also, although service was friendly, the waitress seemed overworked during the lunch rush, and it took a little while to get things like a water refill.

That said, the problems weren't enough to materially harm my experience, or to cost this great hummus place one of its well-deserved five stars. Highly recommended.

Such a great little find! We were walking by around lunch time and decided to tuck into this tiny nook for some nourishment. We settled into a long, community table and promptly ordered everything on the menu. Ok, so our eyes were bigger than our tummies, as usual, but with these prices we could afford to feast!

Between the four of us, we chowed down on the Super Healthy Salad, Falafel, Mushroom Hummus, Bureka, Shakshuka, tea and lemonanas. Oh my! Delighted moans and groans were heard as we passed the plates and let the spices and steam from each healthful dish warm us up. This place is a keeper, from the kind, generous servers to the sweet ambiance. Be sure to end with the delicious Knaffe and a Turkish coffee. Life is good!

I LOVE hummus kitchen! It is my new absolutely favorite spot to grab a bite before theater. The wait staff is super friendly, always offering great recommendations and sometimes even throwing over a free dessert (get the goat cheese one, it's AMAZING!) The hummus is the best I've had in the city (kick's hummus kicthen's butt) and the pita is always fresh out of the oven. Their lemon-alcohol drink is refreshing and super yummy and I love the decor. Seriously, this place is fantastic, I'm even having them cater my grad party!

I heart you hummus kitchen!!!

I somehow randomly stumbled on this little place and was pleasantly surprised by the food and cozy decor. The hummus was fabulous - it was so smooth and creamy I nearly died. The tabouli was also fantastic - tons of parsley. The prices were also fantastic - at lunch I had tons of wonderful options all for $8.50, and it was definitely worth it. I only wish it was closer to my apartment.

The only reason I give this place a three and not a four is because of the price.  I LOVE hummus, but can make it for practically nothing at home so don't like spending $10 on it.  That said, what we had was VERY good.  And despite the name, they have more than just hummus on the menu (I highly recommend the Mediterranean Salad).  I also have to give them points for a nice atmosphere and friendly service.

Its the best hummus I've ever had. I may have to go back to one of my reviews and make an update....

Sharon, the owner, is really really nice. If you get a chance, I would highly recommend on chatting up with him.

The best part of the hummus is the hot green sauce that comes with it. Its to die for.

i'm not a big fan of 100% vegetarian meals, but i must say that the one i had at hummus kitchen tonight was stellar.  stell-aarrr!

i must mention though that my buddy, who's israeli, deserves credit for the dining experience.  he was familiar with the menu items so he ordered for all 4 of us, otherwise we would have been clueless as to which ones to get.

the hummus sampler was really good.  i liked the whole wheat pita, although i have to agree with rey in that they're a bit thicker than i would have preferred.  the mediterranean salad was fresh and simple but really tasty.  the (complimentary) seasoned olives were also pretty good.  for dessert, we had this flan-like pudding with rose water and pomegranate.  really good!  i'm pretty sure i've never had that one before.  the best part for me was probably the lemonade + mint slush.  i had the version with anise liqueur.  very refreshing!  once the summer months roll in, i will be definitely drinking this all the time!

as for ambiance- faultless.  the place is tiny, but with the high ceilings and sparse but tasty decor, it didn't feel cramped at all.  service was fairly competent.  the waitress was talking in hebrew to my friend for the most part, which was ok- it just limits my comments about the service, that's all.

it's a pity that i pass by this place all the time (it's a block away from my gym) and head to the 3,452 thai places on 9th for dinner after workout.  but now i know better!

Yay, hummus. This place is what can only be described as a classy hole in the wall. The restaurant is quaint, and the waitresses look like sisters, which leads me to believe that it's a family owned place (I might be completely off...). We weren't that hungry so we just ordered an appetizer sample. The falafels and hummus were delicious and packed full of sesame. The "Green tahini" - sesame paste w/ parsley - looked exactly like my facemask but much better tasting. And my favorite: the bureka - described as a stuffed puff pastry with feta cheese, tomato and eggplant - tastes like a really high class delicious hot pocket (really). A nice experience, although I can't imagine myself having a full meal here.
