Based on some of the reviews, I was thinking this would basically be a really cool bar with a hotel attached as an afterthought. But staying here is no disaster....it was actually pretty good and suprisingly quiet (which made it easier to enjoy all the chic trendiness...)
4 stars because even though my room was (barely) big enough, it was because of an upgrade - I can't imagine how small the regular ones are.
I'm not impressed by the too-brightly-lit bar, which looks like it belongs in an airport. But the outdoor lounge just off the lobby was cool and the roof terrace looks like it would even better (closed for the season, booo.......)
This is a hip place to stay...there always seems to be something going on. The night club can get really crazy and there is always some fun people watching. I have stayed here many times and it is nice. The best part is that you are centrally located but not stuck in the craziness of Times Square. And if you want to walk to Times Square you can be there in 5 minutes...not bad and then once you get to Times Square you will wish you were back at the Hudson. There is a great rooftop bar...drinks are pricey...my Martini was 20 bucks after a tip but it was good! The sunset was great from up there. The restaurant has amazing Mac and Cheese too. Now to save some money for dinner and drinks just walk around the corner and you will find a ton of places. We found some great Happy Hours too...$10 Martini's...buy one get one free! What! Now we are talking!
On the bad side the rooms are small...but hey this is New York. What do you expect? And it is so dark too...after a week here you start to feel like a vampire living in a cave and you just want to know what you look like...but hey vampires are hip right now...so that could be a selling point for the hotel.
I've flown in early and a room has always been available for me. I have been very lucky. Also, I've upgraded my room to a Queen for only $15 a night. Not a bad up charge if you ask me.
Staff is super friendly and are always protecting me from the Europeans that stay here. It is really annoying but when you are at the front desk...the Europeans will walk right up and stand on your back while you are checking in or trying to pay your bill. The Hudson Staff always comes to my rescue by asking them, "Excuse me are you with this gentleman?" After they say, "No!" The staff will ask them to stand back and wait for an available staff member. And they call Americans Ugly when they travel! Ha!

Meh... just meh. I thought that this would be a fun hotel experience for a quick business trip. I was pleased when I walked into the lobby - it was funky & cool, somewhat sophisticated & the lighting unique. I was quickly checked in, although I didn't really see a smile or receive a pleasant greeting and headed up to my room.
I walked in to my tiny room - I know, I know... I'm in NYC, but this was very small. Truly not enough space for my small carry on roller & computer bog - much less any space to spread out & attempt to get a bit of work done.
After getting as comfy as possible, I ordered a quick sammy & salad + water for a late lunch & got to work. 45 minutes later, my meal arrived. Incorrect. At that point, I was so hungry, I didn't want to waste time complaining about my incorrect side or not cheese on the sammy as stated on the menu. It was OK, that's it. Again I know, room service is always just OK, right? But after my $50, small, late lunch I was left much disappointed.
I felt as if the bathroom was a bit outdated & extremely small - good thing it was just me! The bed was very hard {I'm all for a soft, luxurious bed} and the linens left much to be desired. The "down" comforter looked & felt as if it had been deflated & nothing about that bed was luxurious.
I can tell that the Hudson team tried to create a funky, unique boutique hotel space, but from my perspective they failed & left much to be desired. Not to mention the complete lack or service. The young woman at the concierge desk literally scowled at me & I didn't receive a friendly/warm greeting from anyone but the doorman on my last afternoon.
Won't be recommending the Hudson to anyone, any time soon : - (
I Love, Love the Morgan Chain ---
Over the years, I've stayed at many a Morgan Hotel, in many a city.
This past week, my Hubby flew out to the East Coast to help me in my attempt to turn my home into a rental ( pssst...anyone want to rent a 3 bd in Jersey??) -- well, I just had to treat him to a night out in Town.
This was his 1st time at The Hudson ( my 3rd). He was super impressed by the cool, dark, hip lobby, and comfortable room.
Since I'm a regular, we did get upgraded a room class -- still a Queen, but roomy enough for 2 without feeling claustrophobic.
The bed is not a Dream Bed ( Westin's bed is the best in the industry), but it's very plush and comfortable.
My only complaints are a bit nit-picky, but important to me.
Check in is super late, and the rooms are never ready, even when you specify a check in time.
Your bar tab will be as high as the room -- each drink runs $15
Bathroom products do not fit the hotel class -- i wouldn't use the shampoo/conditioner on my hair.
The hotel staff is trained to serve you, and treat you like you're a star.
Even peons like us were greeted by name, and constantly asked if there's anything that could make our stay better -- that means allot to me, and because of this, I make Morgan one of the few hotels I go out of my way to stay in -- oh, and the location is great -- just off the Columbus Circle
WORSE THAN A "LAST RESORT". Now I understand why I was able to find a last-minute room here when the rest of NYC is sold out. Guaranteed late arrival means it's guaranteed that you will be late getting to your room after arriving at the check-in desk. Because in my case, and everyone else who arrived when I did, the front desk was a disaster. Understaffed, no rooms available, manually writing forms, calling to a manager who clearly was busy doing something other than running the core business of the hotel. Room was straight out of "Honey I Shrunk the Hotel". Filthy dirty room, clogged drains. Avoid.
Beautiful space. Riding up the narrow escalator into the wide-open, ivy-draped lobby is very cool. Plenty of kitsch: chandeliers covered in hologram light bulbs, furniture made of antlers, pictures of cows wearing hats. The lobby, library and bar at the Hudson Hotel are spectacular. The room you're sleeping in? Not so much.
In addition to being really small, the rooms just aren't that comfortable. Everything feels a little too low to the ground. The same $5 ironing board that I was ashamed to use in college made a comeback at the Hudson, only this time there was nowhere to put it. The ipod dock was a nice surprise, but other than that everything seemed simple and cheap as opposed to modern and sleek. I guess the silver lining is that it made me want to spend as little time is possible in my room and gave me more time to explore the gorgeous public spaces.
Hudson Hotel is definitely worth checking out, but if you're looking for comfort and amenities, I wouldn't recommend checking in.
Very cool public spaces, pretty poor service and very small rooms. Rooms are cool (wood paneling, Starck furniture) to make up for the size, but there's lots of street noise (and noise from parties in the public areas).
I reached my conclusion when i went to sit in the 'Library' and was barred form entering because I didn't have a reservation. What can you say to that? There have been some spectacular horror stories, too - like guests being made to enter the hotel though the loading dock because the lobby has been hired out for a party.
First I must say the Hudson management did apologize for what I experienced while I was there. They even gave me one nights credit on my bill which I thought was respectable but they still don't really get it. I called the corporate office to describe what went on there and why this too for me is the worst hotel experience I have ever had. We shall see if I hear from them. Here is just some of what went on while I was in NY.
My experience at the Hudson was the worst hotel experience I have ever
had in all my travels. We have stayed at Hotels ranging from the
Hotel Creon in Paris (at 1000 euros a night) to the W in Times Square,
Carlyle Hotel, So Ho Grand, Four Seasons, Ritz (Hawaii, LA, Chicago)
Trump in Chicago, and the list goes on. I have some experience and
some expectations to say the least. I guess its my own fault for
looking for a bargain as we were trying to keep costs down while in
New York. I guess the old adage applies "you really do get what you
pay for!"
First, I checked into a hotel room that was so small I wouldn't put a
child in it, much less two adults. My claustrophobia and anxiety
began when I could barley get the bag in the room, much less find a
place for it on the floor. I went to the desk to ask for an upgrade
after about 45 minutes I was accommodated to room 950 larger yes, and
with a window to the city, but with its own problems. The thermostat
was cranked down to 58 degrees when I arrived. I tried to adjust it
up to 78 because it wouldn't stick on something reasonable like 72. I
thought well warmer will be better so I left it and went to dinner.
When I returned the temperature was 62 degrees. I was tired and too
tried to wait for someone to fix it so I went to bed and just covered
up. At 4 am the garbage trucks began their back up noises ( all city
noises on the 9th floor are really present) until about 530am, the
temperature had only gotten to 68. I was still freezing and now
awake because of city noise. Its New York and I know you have to have
some understanding but come on. I went to the desk and asked to be
moved again at 8am before my meeting. They had it handled when I
returned at 3pm and I went to my room without a bell man and moved
everything AGAIN. This time the room was small but at least quiet and
the thermostat working better.
My wife arrived and met me in the room that afternoon exhausted from
her trip from Los Angeles and we laid down to rest for a couple of
hours before our dinner meeting at 7pm. I was watching TV and she was
asleep. Out of nowhere the door opens. NO KNOCK NOTHING JUST
OPENED. It was the turn down service "Oh sorry" she said and scurried
off. What if I were naked or my wife and I were in the middle of,
whatever, and this woman just blazes in like that unannounced. What
the hell!!
Next I went to the restroom and flushed the toilet and as God as my
witness the water came back brown. Now I just peed in there why is
the water brown? I am not kidding I flushed that thing 4 times before
the water was clear.
I jumped in the shower and grabbed a towel to dry off and the towel
was so old when I wrapped it around my body it ripped slightly where
it had been worn out. This thing should have been used as a cleaning
towel.
Now this IS the worst Hotel I have ever stayed at by a mile but there
is more.
When I checked out at 5 am to make a JFK fight at 7am the bill was
incorrect. There was a $58 dollar breakfast charge on my bill that
wasn't mine and a pay per view that wasn't mine. Now instead of just
taking it off the Desk Clerk had to investigate (25 minutes) and sure
enough the charge didn't even have my name on it much less my
signature. He assured me he would correct the mistake and email me
the new bill. I am still waiting to see if the problem was
rectified. I guess now I have to spend more time trying to get out of
that hell hole.
I am greatly disappointed, and if that final bill is not right by the
time I call, I will post this review on every possible website I can
find. Good luck Hudson Hotel your going to need it.
Me and three male friends came here Saturday night for free dancing and ended up having to jump over walls to get in. My party friends are inclined to dress casually but dance super hard at spots with good music and so we were down with the no cover charge and the high end decor. The bouncer, however, looked at my male companions and suggested they dress nicer for next time.
So when we were turned away our reaction was??? Get another drink at the adjacent bar and just jump the divider when we want to dance :)
Did it work? ABSOLUTELY.
The space is chic and modern and feels grandiose with minimal pretension. Pricey drinks but fun dance music for the columbus circle crowd.
If you like getting dolled up, you're a producer, actor or in media, you'll like the Hudson. The crowd is a bit weird though - my friend said he encountered girls that looked 15 in one corner and older people (like 45+ wow old j/k) drinking and getting it on too.
Really this place only gets 3 stars for design and because it was funny to have a physical challenge in heels just to dance for free.
Note: if you're a guest at the hotel you get a privelege card to walk right in and could probably go in your jammy jams if you wanted to be funny. But if you tell them you're a guest they will ask for that card. Lying doesn't work, jumping hurdles does.

If I could sum up this hotel in three words, they would be: utter fucking incompetence. This review would be 1,000 words long if I ticked off every detail of my four night stay here that was a complete disaster.
The clincher is that I had booked originally at the Ace Hotel and it wasn't open in time, so I got moved The Hudson, which on top of everything else that happened here, is in an area of the city that I patently avoid like the plague when I come to visit. (I'd also stayed here one previous time for one night and although that stay wasn't bad, I knew I didn't want to stay here again.)
The one upshot is that the staff is nice to the point of ridiculousness. Sadly, all of them (with the exception of the one awesome guy who saved my sanity) were utterly fucking incompetent!!! Oh...sorry...I think I mentioned that already.

General Lobby - Futuristic cool, lots of neon lights, two long lit escalators leading up to a welcoming and spacious reception desk. If you ever wondered where all the space is in NYC, the Hudson has definitely claimed some of it. To the left, the Library ...
The Library - I'm started to get used to bar/lounges called Libraries, but this one has a great look to it. Floor to ceiling bookcases and a pool table were nice touches, so was the lighting and general feel of the space. We stayed there just enough to get a feel, then moved on .. it got a bit crowded ... To the right of reception was the Hudson Bar ...
Hudson Bar - more a club than a bar, there was a rope, but not a strict rope, so don't worry about getting past this one. Put on your sunglasses when entering this place - wow, neon lights! - the entire space was glowing, from floor to ceiling. That night there was a woman standing on a chair playing an glowing electric violin, not sure if she's a fixture. It was incredibly loud inside, so don't plan on having a conversation.
We got a drink and snuck out to the lobby instead. Surprisingly, I didn't get a feel for the crowd at all, but the space was worth the experience. Next time ... Sky Terrace and Private Park ...

Great place. I wasn't impressed with Philippe Starck's design for SLS in LA or the Katsuya restaurants but he has a fan in me with regards to this place.
You take an escalator up to the main lobby that looks like an overgrown greenhouse. Lots of straight lines and very dark woods and very modern in its look. Most of the hotel is really dark but not annoyingly so.
The rooms are small (just so you know, I'm used to Vegas, apartment size rooms) but they're clean and from what I'm told there are many many many NYC hotel horror stories. The room carries the dark wood and modern look throughout.
We were only here for a night (our last night in NYC) but if you're looking for a chic place that's in Midtown than I think this would be a good choice.
Whatever you do, don't buy drinks here, 4 Jager bombs ran us $80....and that wasn't even in the club.

Wonderful! Atmosphere good.
If you believe that New Yorkers are "rude," which I don't then go to the Hudson where I was rudely told that I wasn't allowed to take pictures in the hotel. Strange.
Sky terrace bar is awesome, hotel staff sucks!

While the Hudson Hotel hosts one of the most romantical rooftops this city has to offer, the service here is atrociously incongruent to the prices and atmosphere.
Amidst the twinkling lights from buildings around you, far above the roar of traffic, in a gorgeous garden, there is a waitress who doesn't give you enough menus for the table, takes them away and forces people to order while half of the table had left to use the restroom, leaving one menu behind for the returning four people to order. Once the drinks are down, she will disappear. You'll have to request the check from the bouncer who is then trying to kick you out because the deck is closing. And the kicker? Her tip was INCLUDED.
I don't mind paying a premium for a beautiful rooftop or delicious cocktails...but mediocre service? Not quite.

I haven't stayed in the hotel rooms here, but I do love to visit the sky bar and the bar inside, with the really cool dance floor.
The architect and decor here really fill this place with an atmosphere of grace and style. If you visit Hudson Hotel as a New Yorker just to grab a drink, you won't regret it.
The prices here aren't bad for what you get. Definitely bring a few friends with you, get a table and some bottles and party it up.
Oh, and have fun in the bathroom, it felt like I was in the Matrix, haha.
Another place to bring a date or a girl you want to impress. Dinner here is also delicious, in the cafeteria, however, I recommend calling for reservations.
Enjoy.
I love the ambiance of the outdoor patio and the cool lighting inside the bar but the drinks are SO expensive! 4 martinis came put to $66! I can think of a lot of more productive things I can do with that money than to kill some brain cells!
As with most hotels in the Morgan's group, I adore the lobby and the bar here. It seems to be a hallmark of theirs that the public space is divine. The private space however, was more Soviet block than cutting edge cool. Seriously you guys, that needs some serious updating and "spot painting" the dirty bits just doesn't cut it. If you like a firm bed you'll be in heaven here, I was not. Also odd that the sheet doesn't go all the way down to the end of the bed. However they have decided to make it, there is about a foot at the end where your feet snuggle up to the wool blanket rather than cool, sheetiness. I was not a fan of that, or of how easily everything came untucked and tangled. Street noise is pretty loud, and you can only turn up the tv to a level that you can't actually hear if you have the fan on. Watch tv and stifle in order to hear it as well, or leave the fan on and just look at the flashing images. Watch out - the doors don't automatically close all the way when you let them swing shut; you need to manually slam them. Twice I had someone burst in scaring the bejesus out of me because I had not pushed the door all the way closed. Walking the hallways showed that I was not the only one.
Service with the sales department leaves something to be desired - they make changes they don't tell you about until you call them out (if then), and they stopped responding all together once we had arrived and the majority of my group had checked in.
A meeting in the penthouse suite was a big hit as the space is fantastic. The food was meh.
I may come back here to quietly make out with a boy in the insanely dark patio bar area and have an obscenely overpriced drink, but certainly not to stay again.

Beautiful Boutique hotel. Definitely up there with the best. I have not stayed a a guest and am only critiquing the lounge spaces. As nice as the place is, the crowd here simply ruins the experience. The commercial location of the place is likely the reason. For a true boutique hotel experience in NYC, try to find a place south of 14th street.
Overpriced drinks and food (50 bucks for a hamburger and glass of wine? Really?) Small but cute room, however it seemed to be lacking in some attention to detail. No plugs anywhere near the desk, for example - sort of makes it hard to work. No drawers to put away foldy clothes, which is lame if you are staying a week as I was. Tiny, lame shower-head. Weird club-like atmosphere means that the lobby is so dark that you literally can't see more than three feet in front of you. I am surprised I didn't get lost.
However I found the bed exquisitely comfortable, and that is worth something. And it very close to all subways, and walking distance to everything midtown and the park, so that is good.
I went here for drinks before going to dinner last night. I was really surprised by this place. When you walk up it looks very inconspicuious, almost like you are leaving a work building/school. You go up the escalator and quickly the place transforms into a whole other gem. The chandelier , the ivy, the decor...everything is just really great. I really like the library with the pictures of the cows in hats on the wall. I sat in the garden/patio area at one of the couches, super comfy by the way, and sipped on champagne. The waitress was really friendly, and I enjoyed the vibe there. It wasn't loud, it wasn't overwhelming. I think this place is great to go. I am normally not a fan of drinking at a hotel unless I'm staying there, but this was just a really cool spot to discover.

Girlfriend booked this hotel and she is selective about location, price and amenities. This place had great decor. Clean lines. We checked right in with friendly welcome.
Rooms were small and bathroom had a weird layout. I know we would stay here again and the 2 drink tickets were a blessing after a long day of shopping.
The bar and library is great and we found out 3 weeks after we were there that Gossip Girl filmed an episode there. Very chic.
Try it.
The Hudson decor was stylishly executed and my local friends seem to love the bar the restaurant and the designing artist. 4-5 stars for the common areas.
Now to the rooms. The room I stayed in was 120-160 square feet, but very well designed and functional. I am staying there on business, but If I was making a pleasure trip I would never, never, never pay $400 a night for the room. Just saying.

I go to hudson hotel when there's a special event there, or if friends invite me there. I mean it is north of 14th street, so you know what that means...
but truth is for a Sunday afternoon, it was a great escape from downtown, I felt like I was on a day trip out of the city. I know that makes no sense people, stop thinking about it!
One little secret about this place is they have a full size pool table in the library bar. Now granted it's not perfectly level, and the felt is like shooting pool through a trippy haze, but who's complain... We just wanted to play pool, and happily, there was no one was on the table. The waitress... god was she gorgeous. That's one thing you're sure to get above 14th street is hot hot waitresses. Anyway, she didn't bother us much about buying drinks, so we literally just played pool! Of course at this point in the game, my date doesn't even bother playing me anymore because she's seen me win too often. But I still help her with the stick...

A lot of the reviews on here are in regards to the club that goes on here during the weekends. I on the other hand was saved by this hotel during my last trip.
The last night of my stay, I decided Im too old for my friend couch and a friend and I checked into the hotel by getting a room through Expedia for $160 plus taxes was $200 or so. We booked a standard room, but one the front desk heard about our ordeal, they upgraded us to a queen deluxe? One step above their standard. It was a corner room which was fun.
It has a modern design, with cool escaltors, nice lobby with high cielings and greenery. The staff we encountered were very nice and helpful, specially the bell desk and doorman.
The room: Yes its tiny tiny tiny but it was perfect for two people. I am told the standard room has a closet half the size of the one we stayed in. The bed pretty much takes up the room, two nice windows, clean and nice bathroom with deep tub. We had a wall with a curatain seperating the room fromt he bathroom. Heard thats not the same in a standard.
The Bed- Not too comfortable, but better then a couch.
We also had a great time partying it up at the bar/lounge/club that was going on , it was a Saturday. its not that big of a place, huge line and Ive heard its pretty popular to go into. As guests we had two passes, and can bring our friends in ( although at the door they limited the number we could bring).
Drinks are expensive!!!! A kamakazi shot that was sooo little, was $13.
I say preparty in your room or anywhere else, then come here to dance. Great DJ!
I would recommend for someone to stay here, only if you are two people. The location near central park, Columbus circle and the subway is also great!
Let me start off with some admissions...
1. I've never eaten at the restaurant
2. I've never stayed here
With that out of the way, allow me to put my two cents in re the bar/lounge. The only reason I gave the place one star is because it's fairly nice looking inside (and Yelp won't let me rate a zero). Other than that, the only reason to go is to observe d-bags in their natural environment.
Maybe I'm being harsh on the people who go there, but the staff (the ones I interacted with) make Dick Cheney seem warm and cuddly. We were invited to a private party in the front bar area and had to argue with the bouncer (an annoying little man with horn rimmed glasses a la Clark Kent) because he claimed we weren't on this list. After 5 minutes or so, he found our names on the list. Maybe he has trouble reading? Who knows?
The friends party? Apparently the people who fought with the bouncer enough to get in had a good time, and the friend dropped a huge chunk of change for truly crappy service.
If you enjoy being treated like filth by an unappreciative staff while paying outrageous prices, definitely give it a go. Any which way, I found the staff obnoxious enough that I'll never return to the place.

This place definitely has its ups and downs. I'd give it a 2.5 star if possible, but I can't, so I rounded down.
To give you a frame of reference, I stayed here in Sept. '08 while attending the Web 2.0 Expo in New York. I hadn't been to NYC before so staying for a week was a treat.
The hotel itself was not.
The hotel's downstairs common areas (as in: the entrance, the lobby, the lounge, check-in, etc.) are really posh and spendy-looking. Not so much when you actually get into the rooms. The service was good, getting checked-in late at night took no time at all, and there are valets and porters left and right to help you out if you're old and frail and need someone to carry your bags. If you happen to be relatively young, you're not really missing out.
Once I got up to the room, I just about started laughing. Either that, or I almost broke out into tears... still debating it. And this was after hunting for the room through a maze of hallways for at least a couple of minutes. Not obvious.
For a rather expensive room at US $400 / night (at least, compared to Vancouver, where I live -- and Vancity is definitely not all that cheap), you'd expect a little more. I got into this super dark, wood-paneled, tiny cubicle that I could barely stand up straight in (and I'm 5'10".) The queen-sized bed took up about 80% of the room. The short hallway between the door and bed.. err.. "room"... was probably tall enough to accommodate a guy an inch or two taller than myself at most. Any taller and you're out of luck... or at least you'll spend most of your time hunched over.
There was no mini-bar, no fridge, barely any room to move, and a "desk" that was metallic and about a foot deep that would serve better as a sofa table or hallway runner (it barely fit my small laptop, let alone my elbows). I ended up storing food I bought on the air conditioner (which actually worked quite well.) In the bathroom, your knees actually hit the wall if you happen to be sitting on the can. Lovely.
The one perk of the room was an iPod dock by the clock radio. Of course, it sounded like a tin can and didn't work 100% with my iPhone, but at least it was something I hadn't seen in a hotel before. :) The bed was pretty comfortable, which was nice, and I didn't turn on the TV all week, so nothing to say about that.
The internet connection, however, was just plain horrible. I could barely load a single page without waiting a minute. The entire floor was sharing a single wireless access point and it worked terribly. I ended up getting refunded for 90% of the $11 a day they were charging for internet access (which was ridiculous considering it barely worked at all.)
In addition, the building appears to be a big hollow cube -- the central courtyard was where the main restaurant/lounge was, and it was open until all hours, so opening your window if you faced inwards (like my room) wasn't a great idea. Especially down on the 4th floor where I was (I'd love to know what the higher floor rooms cost... yikes.)
Pretty much the only redeeming things about this hotel were:
(a) The location (which was awesome -- right across the street from Columbus Circle, a block from the south end of Central Park, and very close to Broadway, Time Square, a Whole Foods across the street, etc.)
(b) The lounge downstairs was pretty nice, and open late.
(c) The fact that I didn't spend much time in it. It was so small and cramped that I needed to get outside before having a claustrophobic attack.
I don't think I'll be staying here in the future. It'd be an "okay" room for $200 a night in NYC, overpriced at $300, and just a rip-off at the price they're charging. Then again, it may be my only choice considering the average hotel room rates in NYC... :/

Very nice 3 star for NYC with very cute small rooms for one or two if you're sleeping only.
Extremely cool decor and no sign in front of the hotel. We had to call and have the bellman give us directions and wave us in.
The food selection was pricey and limited for basic fair and the bar was very stark and pale.
It's tight security in the building so keep your room key close and wave it like a backstage pass.
While the Hudson Bar is worth a visit because the Lobby and the outdoor lounges are gorgeous, I've concluded that in general, it must be too cool for me because I just don't get it.
I've been here a few times drinking for business functions (an area of expertise I've perfected with time and practice). Although I've always had fun clients and co-workers with me, my experiences have been mixed. When I step into the bar, I wonder whether I'm in a French palace (hand-painted ceilings), cozy apartment (exposed brick) Ikea (cheap, uncomfortable modern furniture) or the Meatpacking District (unflattering fluorescent floor lighting, loud music and overpriced cocktails).
I will say that the Black Satin (fresh blackberries, lemon juice, St. Germain and champagne) was tasty, but other selections underwhelmed our palettes (flat champagne doesn't do a body good) and overwhelmed our AmEx ($17 a pop)?!
Sure, it's fun to people-watch Euro. businessmen for a few minutes, but be advised not to entertain any upstairs in your tiny room, or else you'll sympathize with Derek Zoolander and find yourself asking, "What is this, a center for ANTS!?"
Whatever the Hudson is, it's not for me.

Lounge Review Only
Came here on a Sunday night. You take an escalator up and their lounge is conveniently located adjacent to the lobby.
Waitresses and staff were very nice and amiable. We were able to get a table and not pay for bottle service which was nice. No way would we get that table in a lounge like that in Vegas or LA for free.
The floors had lights through them and they would flash around nicely. The ceiling looked like Dr. Mario medicine but that comparison was made when we were drunk.
The music selection was good. The dance floor was not. Dudes tried to dance cool when they weren't. And the women dressed too revealing. I wasn't in the mood for cheese that night.
The drinks are expensive though. Two crown and cokes for $40. Their cheapest drink is the cocktail of the day. That day it was a shitty champagne strawberry daquiri. It was really bad.
Would go back again during a busier night to see how good it can truly get.
2.5 but round down for the worst cocktail I've ever had

I got a great rate for a cool little hotel room. Nice bar downstairs, staff were nice.
It was the smalest room I have ever stayed in, but my New York friends told me that it is normal for a NY hotel room to be that small.

I love how often I discover new things once I go above 14th street. I didn't stay in the hotel.. so this is not a HOTEL review.
I went to the lounge area.. they have an outside lounge area.. great place for date..friend gathering..smokers!!
Indoor lounge has a pool table.. which is COMPLETELY free.. but the table is HORRIBLE!! I don't think I can take pool seriously with that table. I like the indoor lounge.. it has this library style with bookshelf and couches... very chill/relax..
One last highlight.. HOT WAITRESS/BARTENDER!!!

This might be a dumb question, but how did you even find the front entrance? There were some bouncer-like guys standing in front of an unmarked entrance who were 'supervising' movers in and out of the building, and when I timidly asked if this was Hudson Hotel, they directed me to a steep escalator that leads to a massive, dark lobby with steel artsy creations hanging in the air.
The whole experience felt a bit surreal, but in a good way. We were supposed to go up in the Sky Terrace but since it was raining a bit, we were directed to the "library" room instead. I walked down a long, dark corridor that led to a space reminiscent of Victorian England. There were 'fake' books lining the walls, various black and white photographs of cows and naked girls strewn around the room, and fixed chessboards that some people were actually playing on. (note: the naked girl pictures are by the bar, and everytime I mentioned this to one of the guys in the room, they all got a sudden urge to get another drink).
In a word, the library is awesome. Just my type of thing, since I'm into the whole old-fashioned old-school British style. Think Harry Potter-esque furniture. It didn't hurt that I had a great time at the party wandering around the room dominated in the center by a huge pool table. The iron saucer light fixture on top of the pool table echoes your sound and is a great conversation starter. The only negative thing is really the price of the drinks: $15 for a glass of wine?!
I don't know if the hotel is undergoing renovation or what, but the entrance/lobby is weird or maybe my uninspired mind is just not 'getting' the concept. However, I get the 'library' concept very well. It works. Next time, I'm hoping to catch a glimpse of the infamous Sky Terrace.

Went to the bars, didn't stay in the hotel. Went on a FRiday night. Didn't get busy til about 11. Stayed in the outdoor part near Cafeteria. SOOOO beautifully designed and well-decorated. I've rarely been so impressed by my surroundings. Had great drinks and the cocktail waitress was super nice. Good-looking, well-dressed crowd. Went up to the SkyTerrace, which was beautiful but very quiet and too windy for real socializing, I thought. Will definitely be back for more warm summer evenings.
Here's a disclaimer: I'm an architect, so some of my opinions are influenced by design and modern things.
I stumbled upon this place on Hotwire: they rate it at 3 stars and I got such a great deal for Sunday night. It was the last night of my vacation, and I wanted to stay somewhere nice instead of crashing my sister's place in Chelsea. Here goes:
Location/Ambiance:
Location is great and SO close to subways. It's right by Columbus Circle and Time Warner center. The main entrance to the hotel is understated w/ no signage, but the mysterious neon escalators bring you straight up into the reception. Darkwood interiors downstairs, cool dining area w/ ghost chairs and other iconic furniture. Patio was very nice and gardenlike and really a hidden gem in New York City.
Service:
Bellmen/Doormen very helpful and nice. Reception was always crowded and needed more staff. Service in patio bar was very good.
Drinks:
One pitcher of sangria (w/ fake cherries and only oranges/lemons??) costed $80. What a rip off!!!!
Room:
Tiny tiny tiny. When I booked a queen sized-bed, i didn't know the room would be queen-sized, too. It was okay because I'm 4'10", Asian, and weigh 100 lbs. But even I bumped my head on a shelf in the bathroom because it was small. The views were awesome though. Flat screen TV, mirrors everywhere, and a transparent window between main room and bathtub?? Good for a couple on a honeymoon I guess?
All in all, I loved being in this hotel bceause I appreciate funky modern design. There was a very mixed crowd, too. For the size of the room, it's only worth it if you pay $200 or under for a single, which is the deal I got on Hotwire.
I'll definitely come back here in the summer just to lounge in the patio.
Met a friend who was staying there. His room was terribly small and overpriced, and the lobby was dark and filled with would-be hipsters.
Glad I LIVE in NYC and don't need to stay here.

This is the coolest hotel I've happened upon in my numerous hotel stays throughout the United States. The way the neon light marks the hotel, to the way the escalator gives way to the expansive wooded front desk, makes one think he's old money for a short stretch. Then you realize you booked the hotel last minute on the company dime. You are the newest of money...so new you're not even money yet.
Once you check in, you check in again with the bouncers at the elevators. Because there's a hoppin' (at least it was when I was there) club at the lobby level, they actually need bouncers to check room keys. I was pumped. It was like being VIP. Well, I guess my company's paying bottle service too!!!
Once you get into your room, you realize you're in Manhattan for sure. There's barely enough room for your feet around the bed. But that's cool. It's supposed to be like that. Lay down on the bed and take a look at your feet...
At my feet, a shower surrounded by glass with a curtain. That way, if you happen to have a lady in your room, she can show you how she lathers or keep it to yourself. That...whateva...that...that made the room. I didn't care what else was in it...
...or maybe I cared about just one other thing...
The restaurant/breakfast spot on the lobby level was overpriced but tasty nonetheless. The street was like anywhere else. But that hotel and it's ambiance was strikedly different than anywhere else I've been. For that reason, I've made it my favorite.
When you've been to as many hotels as I have, different makes the week. I cannot tell you how many times I've gotten upset because the soap had oats in it...what's up with that?!?!

I was SO prepared to have a new favorite hotel in NY with my trial booking on Quickbook via a Javits Trade Show, but was seriously burned by the experience. I will never be back.
Really nice decor, polite staff, nice clean room which was big enough for me. I even had a lovely rendezvous with a friend in the Library Bar, everything was great until Day 2 @ 10AM:
I found out with horror that they froze the original Rack Rate for my room to my credit card for the length of my stay (without ANY warning verbal or on the paperwork) and NOT the $98. Quickbook rate which completely screwed my entire weekend. I had to check out asap and spent an entire day on a friend's couch (luckily I know people in this town!) on the phone back and forth with my bank and back to the emotionless Desk Manager to get my money un-frozen. Total nightmare that took until 8PM to fix!
And on second thought: the hallways had a peculiar funky smell, the airconditioner in the room was crazy loud, I asked for a high floor and they put me on 4 so the street noise was nonstop.
Hey was that Pete Burns from Dead or Alive that just walked past me? Don't know because it's pitch dark at night in the Lobby for some reason.
I stayed here for one night on a whirlwind trip to NY.
Arrived late at night, exhausted, and ready to climb into bed. As ew were checking in, we asked for a late checkout, and they were able to give us a two pm checkout which was fantastic.
The decoration of the hotel is definitely young and hip, very trendy. I do love the high ceilings in the lobby and the very spacious feel.
However, I am taking off a star because the rooms are TINY. and a lot of the furniture seemed unstable?! Plus, the walls were pretty thin and it was hard to get a good nights sleep when you can hear people next door.
OTher than that, it was a decent hotel and I enjoyed my stay.
The Hudson Hotel has an amazing look when you're talking about the common areas. I love the main lobby area, I love the bar by it and the Library Bar. But when it comes to the rooms, it's slightly claustrophobic. The wood paneling, the low beds and the bathroom which makes you feel completely naked, isn't exactly as nice as many of the Morgan Hotel properties that I have been to. But once again, its location and bars make up for it and if you're only there over night, it's not too bad.
