Look, I know you're going to go here and be like, "what the hell are those Yelpers talking about? Why would they recommend this place?" You need to understand this: this place is not a "we're from out of town, let's find a nice place to eat." There are plenty of other restaurants in Oak Lawn for that. No, this is a 24 hour, get all kinds of people, townie restaurant and it's fucking awesome.
I go here to catch up with friends. I would never attempt to order a steak from here, but the basics are pretty good. Soups are awesome, sandwiches are standard. I highly recommend the brownie sundae. It's to die for. Seriously, I have dreams about it. If you don't wanna feel like a fatty, share it with a friend, but if you're like me, you're going to try to eat more than your half.
Huck's is open 24 hours. Late night? Can't sleep? Go here. Why not? The food is nothing special, but it's like a diner. You feel at home here. You go to Huck's because you feel comfortable there. No one is going to judge you if you go in pajamas. That's why this place is awesome. That's why this place gets the reviews it does. If you want 5 star quality food, go somewhere else. Oh and they have donuts when you walk in, so you can just order them and go. They also have a Texas sized donut. Hell yes. -

As a child I only remember going to Huck Finn's for the donuts. My mom was a huge Huck Finn donuts fan and so was I. I especially loved the chocolate glazed donuts. I give their donuts 4 1/2 stars.
As far as their restaurant, which I only started going about a year ago to the one on 67th because it's close to my friend's place, is not that great for the food nor the decor and ambiance. And forget the coffee here. It tastes burnt all the time no matter what time of day or night you get it, ew.
I do prefer this one in Oak Lawn. The ambiance is a little better. I would have given it only 2 stars but this is a nice place to go late at night with my friend when we only want to split a club sandwich with fries. It's a sandwich, how badly can you mess up a sandwich.
The first time my friend and I came to this one in Oak Lawn, he needed to do some work on his lap top so we found this place because it has WiFi. Another star added to my 2 stars for the food & restaurant alone.
I don't like their cream of chicken rice soup. Way too salty for my taste. I had to pour some of my water in it to kill some of the salt. But that was also horrible. I didn't finish it and I should've asked for the salad after that but I didn't bother.
The omelettes are pretty good. I especially like the Mexican omelette and their veggie one also. I give them 3 stars (I've had better but their's are not bad).
My favorite meal on the menu is their spinach cranberry salad. Wow, for my friend and me, it's the best on their menu. We could actually split this one late at night when we want something light to eat. I give that salad 5 stars! I checked the online menu and I did not see this item on there. I wonder why. It's delicious and it should be put on the online menu.
As I'm going through the additional tips, I noticed one of the survey questions asking if this place had a TV. I am so glad this restaurant has NO TV. I like that. I can't stand when restaurants have TVs all over. I can stay home and watch TV. When I'm with my friend, I like talking to him and I like him talking to me, not for him to keep watching the TV. I can't stand that. Why do restaurants have TVs anyway? No need. So for Huck Finn's not having a TV, I give it 5 stars! -

For the price, this place is pretty good. I like that it's 24 hours so I can go to a place other than McDonalds or Baskin Robbins at night. I like that they have a large LARGE menu. Their cream of chicken soup is pretty delicious. It's very inexpensive to fill your stomach.
For example, my friend and I wanted to catch up on things and he was craving ice cream, but I Was starving after work. Hucks was there to satisfy the both of us and it's not like their ice cream is bad at all.
What I would never get here is their pancakes. It's gross. I prefer McDonald's pancakes. -

If you are drunk/hungover and looking for some greasy food, this will do the trick! I've only had their breakfasts so I can't speak on their other offerings.

If you want to go to a nice restaurant on a Friday night to talk over your week and plans for the upcoming weekend, don't come here.
-24 hours
-Alright food at a great price with alright service
-Not the cleanest but not the dirtiest
-Good for a quick meal to hold you off until dinner
-Family friendly? Yes. Best place to take them? No.
-The donuts are great. You can just walk in, get an order, and walk out.Listed in: Chicago

If you like Huck Finn and want to escape the Urban/Ghetto area, try this one. This is a great fancy restaurant that I love going to for Brunch. Walked into the restaurant with an awesome friend of mine, and was greeted by two different waiters and walked us to our table. Asked if we would like coffee and of course I said YES. This place has amazing customer service and they would check on you to see how your doing and to see if you need refills on your coffee or drinks. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone :)

Huck Finn's is kind of a tradition with my crew. Whether we're partying in the burbs or in Pilsen, we tend to end up at the home of the Texas Doughnut somewhere around 3am.
This is the place where instead of singing "happy birthday" , we started the grand tradition of serenading our friends with "happy anniversary" on their birthdays. Not sure why, we were drunk and it was 3 in the morning. This is also the place where no matter how much Timmy has had to eat, he ALWAYS gets a dozen doughnuts to go. Once he got a dozen Texas doughnuts. I've been here more times than I can count - and I've loved it every time. Good service, good food, good prices. Triple threat right?
WRONG! I ate here once again this past saturday. Once again at 3am. However, there was a major difference this time. I was sober. The food was bleh. Just bleh. Goopy hollandaise, soggy hashbrowns, a non runny egg yolk. Not impressed.
So here's the conclusion I've drawn from this experience. Drunk me likes to play tricks on sober me. Like "Oh my God, that guy is soooo hot, you should totally make out with him all night." Then when we meet up for our first official date, he's the ugly evil twin of that hottie I thought I was making out with. Or when I order eggs benedict at 3 am schwasted and they're delicious, but at 3 am sober they become the ugly evil twin of the yummy breakfast I've grown to love. I'm sads :( -

Damn, Huck Finn. I forgot about this place. I went here for a huge meeting with my job because it was close by where our meeting was held and could seat the huge amount of us. Some of my coworkers had been here before and were talking about the donuts, which were huge.
I didn't try one because I am weird about doughnuts. After finding out Dunkin Donuts fries theirs in pork fat, I kinda stopped eating them all together.
I went here before the new law took effect about smoking and was surrounded by all these people smoking and hated it.
As far as the food, it was typical diner food to me. Nothing great. We ordered a couple trays of Cheese sticks and onion rings for little appetizers which were fine.
I had the vegetarian omelet which came with potatoes on the side and toast, which wasn't bad at all.
Typical diner food nothing, spectacular to me and plus it was just for a meeting so I didn't mind. If I had to go again for a meeting sure. I would enjoy the mediocre food better now without the cigarrette smoke. -

Huck Finn's was the place to be in high school after dark if you weren't hip enough to invited to any parties. Many times we would arrive at Huck Finn's around midnight and not leave until the sky was brightening, nursing bottomless cups of coffee and chowing down on stale dinner rolls. It's a huge restaurant, and there are fewer and fewer places like Huck Finn's--you know, with the $5.95 specials, laden in gravy, wrinkled/tattooed waitresses, and a smoky haze hanging over the dining room. The food is what you'd expect for a diner, the donuts are disappointing, and you'll probably want to steer clear of the Superman ice cream--I think they've been working on the same container since 1999.
A gross and funny anecdote. As we were regulars at Huck Finn's in high school, we all had our usual beverages. One evening, after over a year of frequenting Huck's, we had a new waitress. My two friends ordered their usual cherry cokes. The waitress made a face, cocked her head, and told them that they didn't serve cherry coke-- unless, that was, they made it using coke and grenadine... but "they wouldn't want that--the grenadine comes from the giant jar of ice cream cherries, which everyone reaches into and is very unsanitary". Ewwwww. As you can imagine, my friends found a new regular drink. Gross? Yes, but funny, as there was no mention of my coffee being tainted in such a way. -

My friends live really close to this place, like a few blocks away. I don't know what to make of the combination of a donut shop/place named after a Mark Twain character/coffee shop, but it's pretty good as a coffee shop, so I'll rate it as that.
I didn't have any of their donuts, but their breakfasts are good. There seem to be a lot of people in here, which doesn't mean anything at all in the Midwest but which is comforting nonetheless. -

Yea, there's characters in here, but Huck Finn's beats Golden Nugget any day. It's the same food, but I think Golden Nugget has no flavor to it.
The servers were courteous and fast, and I like their bakery selection.
It's been awhile since I've been here, but I was in a bowling league at nearby Arena (now Brunswick) every Saturday night before we turned 21, and this was where we'd go after. -

Now this place has "comfort food." I love their spinach and feta cheese omelet. The atmosphere is very pleasant. Not the usual crowd from the Archer & Damen location.
The waitresses are sweet hearts and never leave you sitting with an empty cup of coffee.
The only complaint I have is their veal. Disgusting!!! -

It's a dive restaurant. It's diner dive restaurant. It's a diner dive restaurant with my favorite Sunday soup - cream of chicken rice.
I like this place. It's quaint and frequented by people of all ages (younger late-teens crowds that have no where else to hang out frequent at night) and the waitresses all have that diner waitress feel to them. It's consistently a feel good place to hang out, get some diner food and move on. Key is to only go here for the Sunday soup and you won't be disappointed. -

Its a typical greasy spoon of a diner. Breakfast is their strong suti and on Sundays their cream of chicken w/rice is outstanding. The food is pretty good, but I gave it 5 stars for the donuts. I am not a big sweets person, but I will pound down fist fulls of their sprinkled donuts. It must be a childhood thing.

The only reason I come back to Huck Finn's is because it's so close to my school. That and the fresh eggs =)

yes, a lot of high school memories occurred at this late night hang.
rice crispy shots, donut delights, coffee and cigarettes, etc.
but i just can't give 5 stars to a restaurant that brought down the great empire of wags!
wags forever! -

I would only go here after a good night of drinking; so you don't notice how horrible the food is. Actually, I take that back. The breakfast is mighty fine, if you just get the staples. (The Becky Thatcher used to be my old stand by.) But just the breakfast. Consider this a warning, don't get anything besides the breakfast! Like the others, one star for nostalgia, and another for being open when everything else is closed.

OMG,,, I cant believe they finally changed the menu.. Im not saying the food before was bad cuz it was great but now theres soooo much more to try. That Ban brd french tst for brkfst with a side of links, the bufflo chicken wrap (breaded that is) for lunch and lets not forget the breaded pork tenderloin with cripsy fries with brown gravy on top. Well thats my new menu choices along with there awesome soup (cream of chicken). Now my grandparents had introduced me to this place and there the most fussiest eaters alive and the most cheapest when it comes down to prices but in my opinion there cheaper then any other restaurant around town. Oh yeah the waitersses there r awesome. Now when u have ppl like my grandparents who complain when there soup aint scoulding hot and always i mean always never hesitate to heat it up countless times and smile with a "not a problem folks", is always a plus in my book.. I do feel bad so i do toss em a good tip. But overall huckfinns to me u cant get no better really u cant. 24hrs, fast service, and the most important
