Oh, I love this place!

The owners are so friendly and helpful and they always have whatever I'm looking for. There's a plentiful stock of many different genres, space to sit and browse and plenty of space so you're not bumping into fellow shoppers. They also have a nice rewards program that let's you get a book free for every few you purchase over $10 (I think its like 10 books over $10? somethin like that).

Dog owners seem welcome, and their dogs get treats too. So if you are like me and you can't have a dog but really really want one, Hub comics is not just good for a comics fix, its also good for a good ole fashion doggie petting fix.

Plus every time I walk in there's always someone hanging around talking about creating comics or drawing. The place just feels like a creative percolator. Go visit, you won't be disappointed.

I'm a relatively recent convert to the world of comics/graphic novels, and this place just makes me squee with delight.

Not only are James and his employees super helpful and nice, but the store is impeccably well-organized all the while offering comfy sitting spaces and TV monitors for extended visits.

I can go here if I want DC or Marvel comics, if I want Gaiman, or if I want the latest work from local comic artists (and know that they'll have exactly what I'm looking for.) The great selection of UglyDolls certainly doesn't hurt either.

It is nice indeed to have a comic book shop a mere 7 minute walk from my hovel; and it's even better to have one like Hub Comics, that offers and excellent selection and is manned by a friendly staff.
The arrogance and elitism you'll find at other local comic book shops is nowhere to be found at Hub comics- Here, everyone is welcomed, and treated with dignity, and you'll leave determined to stay a regular customer.
My usual routine is to buy my comics at Hub Comics, and sit down and read them at the adjacent Bloc 11 Cafe.

I've only been here once, but my experience was fantastic.  I was actually picking up a picture that I had ordered through http://Etsy.com taken by the owner's wife.  Being a flake and completely out of control of my life, it took me a long time to actually get to Union to pick the picture up.  When I finally did, the owner made a special trip into the store to find it for me.

In the meanwhile, I browsed the goods.  They have a wide variety of books and comics for all ages, toys, games, etc and while I didn't purchase anything that day, I will be back for purchasing presents for friends.  The best book I found - History of GI Joes.  Like all things that are worthwhile, they were invented by Jews.

I bought the manager a cup of coffee from Sherman, and he let me eat a sandwich on the comfortable couch located towards the back of the store.  He also took the time to help me figure out what anime DVDs I could get from netflix (or torrents) that would not be childish.  He recommended Hayao Miyazaki, and I have to tell you this man's work is stunning.  Great stuff.

This is just an example of a really well-run store, managed by people that care, and you can tell to the last detail.  Why only four stars?  It's a comic book store.

Here's the thing:

I don't do comic books.  Not pamphlets, anyway.  If I buy them, they just fall on the floor and disintegrate.  I like reading comics, but I can only really collect sturdy paperbacks and hardcovers.  I'm just too hard on stuff.  The other thing is, I actually live closer to Harvard Square than this place.  I should be going to Million Year Picnic.  But MYP is too cramped, too claustrophobic, and often just plain tough to browse in.

Hub Comics, by contrast, is a revalation.  Big windows let in plenty of sunlight (but it doesn't shine directly on the shelves, that's a no-no!), and there's something like 900 square feet of browsing space, which is fairly huge for a city comic shop.  There's a remarkably diverse selection, from superhero funnybooks to artsy-fartsy graphic novels, to manga, to-- get this-- comics for CHILDREN.  Amazing.

The owner is often in the shop, and he and his pals have always been quick to order anything I wanted that I couldn't find in stock.  There are comfy couches and chairs if you feel like browsing for several minutes instead of rushing in and out.  There's even a big TV on the wall.

In short, I love this place.  It is exactly what I think a comic store ought to be-- old-school pamphlet fans can browse through new books and plenty of back issues, hipster jerks can sample the broad selection of local comix and indie trade paperbacks, manga otaku can get their fix of the latest installment of that orange jumpsuit ninja dude, and small children can feast on Archie and Disney comics.  I make a point to go here at least once a month, and so should you!

Hub Comics is the kind of place where you always drive by and think -- damn, I really need to check that place out....but it's in a location that's not easily accessible by  T riders. Everyone knows that Union Square, while awesome is slightly off the beaten path.

A little backstory:  I'm what you call a Comic supporter but don't invest much in comic books myself. However, I want to change, but it's hard to find a good comic book shop where you feel like it's just bursting with content and you could stay awhile and look around. When I was in Seattle, the comic book shops were the best I've ever seen. I think we spent an hour or more just browsing and I ended up purchasing my weight in comics.

Well, Russ and I were walking by Hub Comics on the way to the Independent from the City Hall in Somerville and decided to take the plunge. I'm glad we did, because I'll certainly go back. They had TONS of comics and you can tell that the owner takes pride in them -- lots of content -- I could see the hours upon hours I could spend in there by just taking a glance at the shelves. I thought -- hey! I think I finally found a comic book shop that will make me a true comic book fan.

So, here's my problem, Hub Comics is a great store that has the poor misfortune of not being Air conditioned. WTF, do you want to chase people out of there? My mind and fingertips said YES, I WANNA READ comics but my body said "Hell No"

I'm a modern age marvel, and my love of comics hasn't matured yet, so, please hub comics, get some AC so I can give you money in support of your amazing business.

EDIT: Awesome, the owner is so on top of things -- he sent me a nice message apologizing about the air and saying that if you ever notice that it's too hot -- just let the person at the desk know and they'll turn on the AC

The Hub is like an indie rock icon among lesser, watered down, post-80s, hair-metal impersonator bands.

I like that there's a fair collection of beautifully appointed graphic novels, a recommendation wall, and a well-organized weeklies section. I also like that you can sit on the floor and browse for an hour if necessary.

Furthermore, what I really like, is that the last time I went to the Hub I attempted to buy a book which turned out not to have a price or be in the system. Instead of charging me the list price, Lou just gave it to me! He gave me a book! I WAS SO HAPPY. I went home with my book and my new comics and I celebrated.

This place is great.  I moved to Somerville just a few months ago, and since then I've been making regular visits to Hub Comics.  They have an awesome selection (including tons of back issues), the staff are really friendly and helpful, and they have frequent sales.  Plus, I'm very happy to be able to support a real local business.  Since I've started going there, my monthly pull list has grown quite a bit, and I have the great staff to thank for turning me on to some phenomenal comic series that I hadn't known about before.  I've been to a lot comic stores where the workers are real snobs with no patience for anyone new to the world of comic books.  But at hub comics, they're down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and just nice guys. Plus, they give great deals.  So there's really no reason to not go.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm friends with one of the dudes who runs the store.

But that aside: this is a really, really solid comic shop.  They have all the current stuff, but what gets me on Hub comics the most is their selection of trades and OGNS.  It's crazy deep, they have most anything you'd be looking for on top of stuff you've never even heard of.  I think it's one of the best local shops in the area this side of the outer Limits.  If I lived closer, I'd go here every week.  Fantastic stuff in there, well worth the trip to Union Sq.

My boyfriend and I stopped into Hub Comics after grabbing some coffee and snacks over at Bloc 11 on a lazy Sunday afternoon. We were immediately greeted by Bub (cutest, friendliest dog in the whole world) and the owner's adorable son. James was tending to some energetic fifth graders talking about comics and cartoons.

I'm not the new-comics-wednesday comic nerd I used to be, but I really liked the selection. Sounds like it will just be getting better too as they expand into the rest of the space. The owner is super friendly and helpful. I will definitely be making this a regular stop around town.

My recent relocation to Somerville caused me to sadly have to let my old comic shop go.  It was an amicable separation, I shed a tear, bit my lip and quickly exited before I changed my mind.  I know from experience that long distance relationships are just too difficult to maintain.

But Hub Comics is no rebound comic shop.  It's only been a couple weeks but I can already tell this is the real deal.  Even though Hub is still in the process of getting itself situated there in the nook of Bow St., they happily took on my page long pull list without hesitation.  I thought Hub might be upset that I ended up not picking up my first couple weeks of books because I had to make that last trip back to the ex's (you know how that is) but they were totally cool with it.  I of course felt obligated to spend some money there on my first visit and they have an excellent selection, everything a discerning comic geek could want.

They organize their books a bit different than my last comic shop, but I can't hold that against them.  When you're with a new place some adjustments are going to be expected.  But the way Hub is set up, by genre, is very cool for the casual customer.  If someone is particular to one style they don't have to wade through all the other stuff to find what they want.  Myself, I like a little bit of everything...

I think this is the start of a beautiful relationship.

Happiest place on Earth.

I was stoked when I heard there was a new comic shop opening 5 minutes from my house. But let me tell you I'd walk for hours to get to this place if it was anywhere else in the city.

All the employees are friendly and full of good advice. I've asked about a few things and got some honest opinions that saved me a pretty penny (even though I ended up spending it on something else there).

I've never been interested in hanging out in Union before this place popped up. Now I find myself there quite often.

I love this shop! So close to home too. All the comics you'd expect in a comic shop - and a ton of comics you've never heard of. I've been picking up a bunch of indie comics along with my usual pull and i love some of the new titles i've found.

The staff is really rad. Always ready to assist you in finding a comic you may dig.

There's also a rack for manga and anime dvds, plenty of goodies for all :)

There was some excitement when we rounded Bow Street this morning and saw something: HUB COMICS!

The shop is located right near Bloc 11, and we'd walked by it a few times and had suspicions that it might be a comic book store, and yep, there it was.  It's nice on the inside, and bright green.  There's definitely something for everyone here, and it's nice to see our square (the coolest of squares) get it's own comic book store.  If they do subscriptions, Jesse is all over it.  The owners seemed cool, and we wish them the best success!

The selection is pretty good but what makes this place earn four stars is the service. Every time I go in there the staff is super friendly and helpful. No grouchy pretentious Simpsons Comic Shop Guy here. I met the owner and he seemed like a great guy who loves what he does and loves the neighborhood.

My boyfriend and I go on mini shopping sprees here and then sit in the vault of Block 11 and read while munching on some yummy sandwiches. It's a past time that never gets old.

You go Comic Hub!

Decent selection, friendly staff, right around the corner from my apartment what else could I ask for?  Aside from comics and graphic novels I've snagged a few  games and tickets to a special event at MIT here.   A nice place to pop into on my way  home from a neighborhood stroll or while waiting for my takeout order at one of the local places to finish.

I went there last weekend to buy a trade for a friend's birthday. Isabelle was insanely nice and helpful. They had a bunch of cool stuff and a huge selection of current issues and trades / graphic novels. The only thing it lacked was back issues, but you have to go to the suburbs to find ANY comic shops that carry those. If I still lived in Somerville, Id be in there once a week.

I'm so happy this place opened in our neighborhood, but it's not been great for my wallet as I'm finding it impossible to walk out without at least one purchase in hand every time we go.  Great selection, super friendly staff, and interesting not-comic stuff too (a card game called PARASITES UNLEASHED! which comes complete with stomach-churning illustrations?  Sign me up!).  I'm thrilled with their Neighborhood Restaurant walkie talkie system as well - put your name down on the brunch list and browse in Hub until they radio over to tell you your table is ready.  Perfect!

I stumbled accross this place to my utter delight- being a comic book collector, and living on Highland ave, Hub comics is very convenient due to its close proximity- and they have an excellent selection of current comics, plus most current graphic novel and trade paperbacks- No much of a back issue collection, but no problem. A great place! Pick up a stack of comics, then wander a block over to Block 11 to read your latest issues.

ok so I first got sucked in by the cute dog (Bub) I saw hanging out inside.  I have to mention Bub alone is worth the visit.  It's colorful, well lit and has a great selection on comics and graphic novels.  They also had a frequent buyer's program I'm planning on taking full advantage of.
