If you don't mind elevators that shake a little bit, this is the hotel for you!
The location of this hotel is great. Downtown Tampa, right across the street from the performing arts center and only a mile from the convention center.
Our room was clean and didn't have that funky HoJo smell I was expecting. One of the four lamps in the room needed its bulb replaced, but we didn't care enough to call the front desk about it. The TV remote didn't work (I cared enough about that) and they sent someone up with a new one within 15 minutes.
The staff at the front desk was helpful and friendly- ready with information and directions to nearby restaurants.
There really isn't anything fab about this place, but it isn't gross either. -

simple: There are two stars because the food tastes okay. Other than that, it is horribly slow service. Painfully painfully slow. Sometimes they have good drink specials. Often you wait forever just to have a drink refilled. -

Didn't have any troubles with shaky elevators, but I had a much better than expected experience at the Howard Johnson Plaza.
For starters, I had literally one of the best cooked steaks I've ever eaten a few nights ago. Seriously was marvelous.
Sadly, I again ordered the steak today, and it wasn't as good, but it still wasn't bad.
Overall, especially for being a "howard johnson" and spending about $90 a night-ish (booked on orbitz) it was great. The shuttle with a two mile radius was marvelous, since I was doing a job near the hotel, and didn't need to spring for cab fare.
All-in-all, I'd definitely rate them as above average. The rooms are not bad, and about what you'd expect, but all the other services make me a fan. -

Good value overall if you catch a deal. Elevators were a little messed up. And we had some drainage problems with our bathtub. But for what we paid it was quite solid. Plus, there's a free shuttle for anywhere within 2 miles of the place. Drop off and pick up.
