I had been to the 80$ haircut place. The 20$ place, and had repeatedly traveled back to Boston to my stylist. I hadn't found my match in philly until I made an appointment at the closest salon while I was walking in center city.  House Productions.

Well ... not only have I gone back for a year and a half.... I had my hair done here for my wedding this summer. And all of my bridesmaids had their hair done as well. Beautiful!

The stylists are fun and INCREDIBLY talented.

They do fantastic work. I love that I can make an appointment with Anthony, show up, and give him a general idea of what I'd like to do with my hair....and he makes it perfect.

I've been going to House for years now (though am just now writing a review...sorry I'm a bad Yelper) and absolutely adore Stephanie!! I'm still kicking myself for having wasted so many years trying every other salon in Philadelphia - when the most laid-back, affordable, fun-atmosphere & friendly-staffed studio was literally right around the corner.

Stephanie is fantastic, seriously cannot stress that enough!!! She's a spunky, trendy & super-friendly lady - but most importantly does an amazing job.

I have been going to House Productions for almost 12 years.  (In fact, my stylist says I might be her longest client there.)  I see Megan Reeves.  I LOVE her.

I was first introduced to HP when I was in art school and a HP representative came by our school asking if we wanted to participate in a hair show.  Free haircut and color? Hell yes.  Sign me up.  Well, they decided I would actually have my hair cut and colored during the show rather than before.  That made me a bit nervous, but it turned out looking great!

Since then, I have gone to see Megan for cuts, but I've also had cuts from Devyn, Buddy (no longer there) and color from Rachael.

I have to say, I don't usually trust people with my hair, but I have NEVER left HP unhappy.  What I like most is that I can ask Megan (or Rachael) to "make me look good" and they do the work.  I don't have to worry about researching a cut or color or whatever.  They're are the professionals and I trust them.

The only semi-bad experience I had there was with a receptionist being rude on the phone, but when I came in the stylists made up for her rudeness by being so nice and doing such a great job.

I have referred many friends to HP and most have also loved it.  I have one friend who went to Chris and got a horrible hair cut that she hated and he couldn't fix, but all of my friends who have gone to Megan are still happy customers.

Thanks House Productions for 12 years of awesome hair!!

I had a hair trial with Buddy and was the first appointment of the day. He arrived late but the trial went well and I booked an updo with him for an event.

For the appointment on the day of the event, he was really late again and not at all apologetic about it. I brought a photo of the updo that he had previously given me to remind him of what I wanted. Unfortunately, it came out looking very different. He also used way too much hair spray the second time and it just looked awful. Given how late he was running, there was no time to redo anything.

I just don't think the stylists at the salon are very good at updos and styling.

I brought a couple of friends with me to get their hair done for the event as well who hadn't done trials. They just want simple curling and styling. It look great on them after it was done but all of the curls had fallen out a couple of hours later before the start of the event! What a waste.

All I can say is that she "got me."
I went to see Michelle as she was recommended by a trusted co-worker (who went to her by recommendation from another co-worker).
I didn't really know what to expect other than I had heard she was good with color.
I went in, told her my dilemma - WAY over done streaky highlights - and just asked her to make me look more like "me."  Well for never meeting me before, she did an amazing job.  She totally nailed it color-wise, told me how/when it would start to lighten up and when to come back.  She was real, down to earth, chatted with me the perfect amount and was just great.
I would recommend Michelle at House Productions to anyone looking for a good colorist in the city.

love this place! have been going to Anthony for about 2 years now, and have tried a couple of other salons intermittently. I keep going back to Anthony at House Productions b/c I'm always the most satisfied with my haircuts when I go to see him.

everyone that I've interacted with at the salon is friendly, although the receptionist (and it always seems to be a different person every time I go) always seems to be grumpy and barely has a personality.

all in all I would definitely recommend this salon.

I've just been back to House Productions for the third time to see Chris Mone. Not only does he take the time to find out exactly what you want, but he also has the skill and attention to detail to make it happen.

All this in a great location to people watch over Chestnut Street!

Such a nice space - try it out and ask for Chris.

I just got back from my FREE bang trim and realized I had never written a review for HP.  I can't speak to how they are with coloring or long hair, but for problematic short hair -- very, very thick and with several cowlicks going every which way -- they absolutely can't be beat.  Buddy and Lauren are absolute gems, the former a little more introverted and the latter more extroverted, but total gems.  Tell them what you want and you've got it, and if you're not sure, ask them. They'll look at the shape of your face, lift pieces of your hair, sweept it back and forth and maybe furrow their brows or squint a bit in concentration and then they'll nail it.  They are meticulous about their work.

I haven't had any issues with the desk staff or the management, so I can't comment there either. The shampoo folks are, on average, so-so, but that's not why I"m there so it really doesn't factor into my review (but I did want to mention it in case someone's reading this and is into the shampoo).

Great salon! Making the appointment was painless (the receptionist was pleasant and squeezed me in for the very next day) and I didn't have to wait when I arrived for my 11 am. Kacie did a great job with my color (I went dark brown with a thick blue highlight) and was very nice.
Anthony, the stylist, took the time to ask a lot of questions about what I wanted and gave me a fantastic, super-precise cut that I absolutely love. The price was reasonable, too.

I have been the equivalent to a crappy boyfriend when it comes to keeping hair stylists- not impressed enough to commit and too flighty to keep appointments. I finally came across a place I like and am now ready to take it to the next step and make it official with follow up appointments.

House Productions is a very cool hair studio located in Rittenhouse with unique and stylish employees and great customer service.  The view from my chair was perfect for people watching and made the time go by quickly.

Devon, my stylist, is a very personable gal who won't bore you with typical styling banter and has a fun sense of humor.  I recently got my hair completely chopped (a decision that can be nerve wracking to say the least) and she made me feel comfortable which resulted in an amazing job.  For once, the idea I had in my head matched the results and there were no surprise perms involved.

If you are a noncommittal hair vagabond like myself, who gags at the idea of small talk, make an appointment at this place.

Up until last week, I had been wearing a hat for the past 10 years. Don't ask... It's a long story. Needless to say, I was badly in need of a real hair cut that didn't involve clippers or leaning my head over the trash.

My wife has had her hair done here a few times and has been threatening me with an appointment for as long as we've known each other. I thought she was all talk until she finally made me one with Devon.

I was actually nervous walking into what I thought was just another one of those high-priced salons where you drop a hundred bucks to walk out with that elegantly disheveled look. I was so wrong. Devon was super cool and despite how weird it felt to have someone else wash my hair and give me a head massage, I mellowed out quick. I had no idea what I wanted or how to even ask for it. I left it up to Devon to do her thing with one simple request - make me look like less of a dirtbag -- that she did.

I feel like a new person. Like a full-on functioning member of society. The cut I got wasn't super fancy or anything, but it was enough to reel in compliments from people I never even knew who somewhat recognized me. It wasn't at all expensive (I don't think) either. I was there for about an hour and it came in at $55. Not nearly as much as I was expecting.

Long story short -- House Productions was awesome and Devon did an amazing job with the challenge I presented her with. I almost can't wait for my hair to grow so I can go back and try something different next time.

The owner of House Productions responded to my review by saying that they have a 20-minute lateness rule. That's fine. But I was NOT 20 minutes late. I was TWO minutes late, because my appointment was for 5:20.

Obviously, they don't care about making things right with a regular paying customer. Sayonara.

Chatty which I enjoyed. Very interested in what we were doing and how it was going. Came to 50 bucks and my friend said it was one of the best cuts she's gotten yet and I agree. :)

I just tried this place out 10 days ago, and NOW they announce a first time client discount! Grrrr.

Anyway, my regular stylist, Maria at Paradis, wasn't available and I was in desperate need of a trim before a weekend with the inlaws, so decided to give this place a try. It was a little cheaper, and everyone was nice enough, but maybe a bit more of that "salon" feel than I'm comfortable with.

The shampooer wasn't very talkative, and with all the hype about scalp massages, I didn't notice anything other than feeling a little rushed. My stylist, Jessica, was very sweet, took a good amount of time to find out what I wanted, and did a pretty good job. So nothing so horrible that I wouldn't suggest someone try it out, but maybe not enough to make me run back.

I am super particular about anyone touching my hair. When my stylist moved to Chicago I had no one I trusted to cut or color my hair.  I have dirty blond hair, and most colorists attempt to add gold or yellow tones which pale me out, or some other tone that doesn't flatter my skin coloring.

Through a mutual friend, I was turned on to Michele Kulbikus. She  was a God-send. A real color genius.I would follow her anywhere, including Center City where parking is laughable. She is that good.

Michele was the first colorist who got it right since my girl Heidi moved away.  I don't know why coloring blondes is so difficult but prior to finding Michele, I couldn't find anyone who could  put a color on that didn't look cheap.

Michele is friendly and truly listens to what you want. She is on top of the trends and up to date with all the newest styles and looks. I highly recommend seeking her out if  you are looking for perfect color.

I had been going to the same salon since I was in 8th grade (see my review of "Concepcion"), and I was happy with it, but I wound up moving to Center City about six months ago and needed to switch salons to avoid a half-hour trip up 95 to my old salon.  I discussed my quest for a new salon with a friend and told her that I wanted to go somewhere to get a fresh, urban cut for a reasonable price.  She came to my rescue by suggesting that I try House Productions, and I'm so glad that she did.

I've gone to HP three times now, and each time I absolutely LOVED my cut.  Plus, they give you coffee, tea, or water while you wait before your appointment, and the shampoo involves a head massage.  My stylist's name is Anthony, and he is fantastic (although all of the stylists there seem really nice).  He spent some time during my first visit to see exactly what sort of cut I was looking for, and, voila, he worked his magic and I wound up with exactly the sort of hip, urban 'do I wanted.  Since then, he's given me 2 even better cuts, and he takes his time while he's working.  This is no conveyor-belt salon where the stylists try to squeeze in as many customers as possible in a day without really listening to what the customers envision for their hair.  Rather, HP's customers get personalized service, attention to detail, and beautiful cuts, all for a reasonable price (usually around $50, which isn't bad for Center City).  Five stars for House Productions!

okay, so this place is not cheap BUT you will get exactly what you ask for.  after going to several hair salons in the city in search of the perfect haircut/dye job, i finally found it at house.  they can do anything you ask for, match your hair to any photo, and if you have special instructions on what you want done, it's like they can read your mind.

plus, you get an awesome scalp massage when they shampoo you, and their line of haircare products is the best.  be sure to get some of the fudge spray wax -- great for any do and smells good, too!

I can be really picky with my hair stylists as I've have some horror stories in the past - but I have been working with my stylist Chris now for nearly a year and have consistently had great results. Chris recently  moved to House Production and I didn't hesitate to follow him there. He always asks what your looking to do, offers some great suggestions and always hooks you up with tea, water, coffee or whatever you'd like while you get your hair cut. Also, you can swing by for free touch-ups. Chris is the man - find out for yourself.

Best salon I've been to in the city. There, I said it. The staff are professional but friendly and inviting.  I get my hair styled by Lauren and she is always willing to listen to what you want and come up with suggestions that would work for your hair type if you request them.  She seems very skilled and knowledgeable and is downright pleasant and entertaining to talk to while she works.  I have just never had a negative experience here and encourage anyone, male or female, to poke their head in here someday when in need of a cut or color.

This salon is spot on for price and service. I found this place when I decided to add side bangs to my hair (eek...). I was really nervous but figured I would take the plunge after hearing good reviews about House. They were great and completely listened to what I wanted and were able to actually give it to me! They also offer FREE bang trims. So in between cuts when I don't need a full trim and just need the bangs cleaned up I just make an appointment to walk over and have them fix my bangs and I look good as new. The staff is super friendly and sweet and after having been here about 7 times I have never walked out crying or annoyed - a big deal in the hair world!

As far as salons go, this has pretty much all you need: a fresh and airy space to have your hair fussed with, plenty of young hair stylists with crazy cuts of their own, and expensive, but still in your price range, array of services.  I had a cut here once that didn't ruin me, but didn't make me happy either.  I keep coming back for the color.  Everyone here does a great job and can do it as natural or as unnatural as your dark-rooted heart desires.

The salon ambience is perfect, low-key, and unpretentious.  I've never had a problem booking an appointment, I've never had to wait for more than 5 minutes, and everyone is pleasant and helpful.

Jen is very, very talented.  She coaxed my reverse mullet (it was an accident!) into something totally different and flattering to my face.  I have thick, coarse, straight hair that can be difficult to cut and style- I don't blame stylists when I end up with a bad haircut, because it happens so often.  But Jen knows what she's doing- I've had many compliments on my hair after she styled it, which never has happened before.  In addition to being a great stylist, her bubbly personality makes the visit all the more fun.  She gives great recommendations on everything from styling tips to restaurants.

House Productions offers free bang trims in between haircuts, so you never have to cut your own hair (not that I ever would, of course.  Ahem).  The prices are reasonable, and they never pressure you into purchasing their line of hair products.

I highly, highly recommend this salon, and Jen in particular.
