Review from Scott G.
Chagrin Falls, OH
Ok- so we tried House on the Hill again because they inserted the word "new" into their name. It is now New House on the Hill. I asked the server why it was new or what was new about it, she replied that it was a new owner, but nothing else really changed. Defeats the purpose of new, right? Strange nonetheless.
So my family and I show up at 8A, right as they open. The place still has a strange interior. I always thought it was so odd that you walk through the service station to get into the main dining room. We were seated next to a window and ordered some drinks. We got our drinks quickly and ordered our breakfast.
I ordered the french toast, which is granola covered. It was really pretty good. Never had granola covered french toast before. My wife ordered the blueberry pancakes. They were not so good. It tasted as if the batter was watery or something- overall just not great. But that wasn't the biggest issue. We go there at 8 and ordered our food at 8:05. Thirty minutes later we still hadn't received any food and we were the only people in the restaurant. At home I can make french toast and pancakes from scratch in less time. Not quite sure why it takes forever and a day for your food to come, particularly when it only takes about 3-4 minutes to cook it all.
Other issues with this restaurant: our server (not the owner who is the other server) looked and acted as if this restaurant was the last place she wanted to be at. She didn't do anything rude, but you could just pick up on the vibe. The artwork on the walls is still strange and I find it just weird that they have a huge CHOKING poster on the wall. I've been to lots of restaurants and have never seen a giant choking poster on the wall. I've also never been taken through the wait station to get to the main dining room before. They should really rethink the layout. The restaurant is HUGE and I have never seen it filled- maybe they move the wait station to another area of the restaurant?
A big plus for the restaurant is the view, but they really don't get too much credit for it since they can't really screw it up. All told, I don't think that we will be going back to this place anytime again in the future.Listed in: Chautauqua Reviews

Review from Matt L.
Boston, MA
Visited this area for a wedding on July 4th and went to this spot for a rehearsal dinner. The place sits right after a quaint village downtown and overlooks the large Lake. The spot was picturesque and looked like it was going to be nice. The interior of the place looks like it only caters to functions. Large rooms with windows, almost like a living room of a house. The staff was all kids serving, bartending not much over the age of 20. Not sure what a regular menu looked like for this place, but the food we were served for this function was bland and just average with not much taste to it. I was disappointed to say the least. The bar consisted of local beers and some California wines which were equally unimpressive. In all I am glad this function was paid for, since I would have been more disappointed if I had to foot the bill.
