This place is banging especially if you are craving for some home cooking.
I don't cook much, especially not Pilipino food.  This place had some really good garlic rice, eggs and chicken tocino. Yum!!
    It definitely hit the spot.

Another plus: They serve coconut water!

My four stars is mainly for the Kamayan experience that you can do. For those who don't know, "kamayan" basically means to eat with your hands. In the PI, this is normal, but here in the US, it's a novelty.

They basically cover the whole table with banana leaves and dump all the meat, fish, lumpia, rice on the table along with a delicious assortment of traditional sauces and side dishes like eggplant, fresh mango, and chopped tomato and onions. Then you just dig in with your hands and get down grubbin! YUM :)

I will say, the sisig isn't the best I've ever had. And yes, they are called House of Sisig.

SERVICE: I've been once when it wasn't so busy and the service was decent. I've been when it was busy, and it was horrible. Took like 25 mins to get shanghai lumpia, and each dish we ordered came out spaced out within 10 mins, so we didn't get to enjoy all the main dishes at once. They kept forgetting us, and I felt like a lot of other tables were getting their food before us.

OVERALL: If it wasn't for the kamayan, I probably wouldn't come back. But yes, it is really fun to do kamayan with a group. Just be careful which day you come. Fri/Sat nights get the busiest.

Ok, I really wished I could have tried dining in this place because being Filipino, I love good Filipino food, especially Sisig anything.... BUT, I'm so glad I saved the trip because after my experience with them over the phone (and reading all the negative reviews afterwards), I refuse to support a business who has ZERO quality customer service... I don't care how good the food is, if I'm being treated poorly, no business deserves my hard earned money.

    So here's the story...

I called earlier in the day to order a party tray for pick up later in the evening. My plans were changed and I wanted to call and see if I could pick it up earlier, but after this initial experience on the phone, I am not planning on ordering from them any time soon or ever...

The first time I called and waited for a long time, I'm thinking, "Ok, must be a busy night." but then they hang up on me. Okay...let's try it again. When I called the second time, same EXACT THING. They told me to hold on, waited another 5 or more minutes while hearing them talk, then 'CLICK'.  I'm sitting there saying "Hello? Hello?" and I hear a dial tone... I'm trying to reason it out, "Maybe they had to use the bathroom so badly they totally forgot? Maybe someone else walked by and hung up the phone. Maybe someone choked on a some bones from their bangus sisig."  I don't know, whatever. Then, I called right back a third time, and I didn't even get a chance to speak, when she answered all rude like "Why is this woman keep calling?!?!".... "Um...If you would maybe take time to talk to me, then I wouldn't have to call so many times???"....and once again I was left hanging to be put on hold for what seemed eternity. Keep in mind, each time I called I'm hearing them talk, laugh, just doing whatever it is that is more important than just answering my call. All I wanted to do is ask a question. One. Simple. Question.

And when they hung up on me this third time around, it wasn't just a 'click', but whoever it was, literally slammed the phone. Seriously?? It was so ridiculous that I had to laugh. By now, it really got me so turned off that the 4th time I called and actually got someone to finally take time to talk to me, I was happy to cancel my order after wasting, kid you not, 20 minutes to talk to somebody...

Now, I know it's probably busy with a short staff, but hopefully they listen to the reviews and get some extra help. It won't do their business any good or attract more customers with that type of system. Like I said, I really wished I could have tried them out, but maybe I will SOMEDAY, when they have better management or hire people who can provide better service on the phone AND in the restaurant.

Obviously, the majority of Yelpers would agree. And if that doesn't convince you, be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom and click on "Filtered" links where people have their reviews hidden, because they don't want you to know the truth....

Decent place to eat. I ordered the Sisigsilog, pancit bihon and chicken adobo over rice.
First the Sisigsilog, pretty yummy. I like the chopped jalapeños with the BBQ pork. But was really good was the garlic rice it came with. Add the two over easy eggs on top and that was perfect.
The pancit was good but oily. Not a big fan of oily noodles.
The adobo was cooked perfectly and very yummy over rice. But it was nothing special compared to other places. Pretty typical dish.
I don't agree with the one dollar sign. I guess my opinion of "cheap" doesn't agree with the mass but I wouldn't call this place cheap.
I only ordered to-go so I can't rate the house service. They were just ok when I picked up my food. Except the lady first greeted me by asking if I was paying with cash. No "thank you" afterwards. Whatever.

I will give this place 4 stars, only because of the decor. I think its needs a little native pilipinas decor, to invite more people. Just a suggestion.

But for sure I will bring and tell my friends and family about this place. The food was delicious, not greasy, and service was great!  We order the "Puring" for four people, it is perfect and the price is very reasonable. We also order "Bangus Sisig" on the side and Sinampalukang Manok...yummmmy!

We came all the way from east bay, but its worth a trip. Awesome filipino food!!

Great concept...very Pinoy. Kamayan on banana leaves...delicious bagoong, pork inihaw with salted eggs/chopped onions and tomatoes. Service is poor. The restaurant was not full as we came at 3 pm. They forgot our pork Sisig order, the reason for our 40-mile travel. I was very disappointed. Customer service could improve. After the server delivered our food, no one approached to follow-up on how are we doing, if everything's ok, or at least if we needed anything. We ordered an extra rice from another girl but nothing came. I didn't like the Bangus Sisig. It was dry and tasted like it was just fried and shredded then placed on a sizzling plate. I never had the chance to taste the pork Sisig...big disappointment. Overall, I'll not come back to this restaurant. To the management, please improve your customer service and keep the restaurant clean.

Lots of negative reviews already. I wish I'd read them before showing up at their door because those bad reviews are TOTALLY 100% correct. The service is not just poor, that would require that they even tried to serve you at all. I can't talk about the food because, after trying two different occasions, I never got as far as food getting to my table.

Delicious!!  I was sooo happy with my pancit palabok!  I hate palabok that tastes fishy, but this one lacked any fishy taste and they even gave us extra sauce on the side.  The spare ribs were delicious, with a smoky bbq flavored and the meat falling right off the bone.
Unfortunately, we came when they were closing and the other workers were overtly ready to leave.   We tried to have a nice family dinner but easily heard the workers' loud chismis.  Other than that, our waiter was really polite.  Definitely going back.

It is often said one door closes another opens, in this story that much became true on two counts. As the demise of my marriage gained momentum and divorce- - - final, I came into contact with an old friend, one thing lead to another and then that lead to breakfast.

Master (ultimate food connoisseur) and I always go to Tselogs for breakfast so we didn't anticipate the open sign to be off, chairs on top of tables, dimmed lights and complete abandonment. I suggested House of Sisig and off we went like gossamer, stomachs empty, mouths watering. And that is how open doors followed closed ones that morning.

It's early morning; we're the only people there besides the staff of 5 and it's eerily quiet, I'm the only one talking, all chipper and delighted to catch up with my old best friend who I haven't spoken with in months. 20 minutes had gone by, by then I had exchanged jokes, stories and old memories with master, gone to his car to get my phone so we could play words with friends and scoured the vast menu.  BUT we still had not ordered, or had been approached to give our order. JUST wanted to drop that somewhere.

We finally grow some balls to say something and tell our waitress we're ready then proceed to order :
-Sisig na Baboy, which is normally, fried pork face marinated in vinegar, lemon juices, salt and pepper.
-BBQ Pork on skewers in House of Sisigs own marinade
    -Garlic rice

Our waitress brought the sisig out and it had to be the biggest skillet of sisig I've ever laid my eyes on. She smiled at me and said "be careful, it's piping hot". I looked at her and laughed, saying "Yeah, I can see that" since the steam practically reached up to the ceiling.  Then came the BBQ skewers and the garlic rice. Master and I looked at each other knowing this was going to be a damn good breakfast and that song Feel so Close by Calvin Harris played in my head

It was good. The sisig was just perfect, just like you imagine snacking on something sour to be. The BBQ pork skewers can't really compete with neighboring FIL-AM BBQ but it was different, it was a lot sweeter and mesquite.

I'm just amazed they don't serve coffee. I plan on coming back, there's a reason it's called House of Sisig, because they have this part of filipino food mastered.

YAY "MASTER AND I" LIST HAS BEEN REVIVED!

For a place called "House of Sisig" you would expect Sisig to be their specialty. So OFF. It was overly cooked to the point where more than half of it was burnt. Staff was kind enough to ask how everything was and then gave our feedback to the chef. The chef responded back in a yelling manner upset about our complaint rather than feeling apologetic as if we can't hear him. The staff member returned to us apologizing though.

Honestly, if it weren't for that lady checking up on us, getting our food quickly, and her apology, this place would have gotten 1 star.

I been here many times to eat some good sisig and silogs.  So I decided to bring a friend who's not from the area to try out their food.  This would be our first time doing "kamayan" at their restaurant.  Kamayan meaning eating with your hands.  We had the Kamayan for 3, I forgot what it was liked though.  So it came with lechon kawali, fried fish, shrimp, lumpia, grilled squid, bbq chicken, with salty eggs, rice, tomato and mangoes with vinegar, bagoon? and banana cue.  I liked all of it minus the shrimp since I am allergy.  Even kamayan for 3, I was still full already.  But anything eating on banana leaves I am for it!  I like this restaurant just for the kamayan, sisigs and silogs.   Plus its closer to home so I am down for some filipino food if I am lazy to cook it. =)

OMG, what happened hell to this place!?!  My hubby and I eat here for the sisig when we are in the area (we're from San Jose).  Now I will have to find another place for sisig. This used to be one of my favorites.

Have you ever been seated and couldn't help but notice those who are seated after you?  How about the people waiting for a table since the restaurant is packed?

I can honestly say, there were 3 tables that ordered after us: 1 table directly behind us (a group of 4 or 5)  and 2 other parties of 2 that were waiting for tables to open up. We were already waiting a long time for a our two dishes (giseng-giseng and sisig) when the those 2 parties that were waiting got seated. By this time, the group behind us already got their kamayan style food.

We waited and waited and waited. Mind you, I'm a pretty patient person. Get this,  I look to my left and low and behold,  that table of 2 already got their kamayan style food!!!  WTH!?!

We still waited...Finally got our giseng giseng.  Get this, while we're eating (and still waiting for the sisig) the other party of 2 (seated by the window) got their kamayan style order.  WTH!?  I'm furious at this point.

I had to ask for our sisig TWICE.  It probably arrived 10 minutes after we got our giseng giseng.  I kid you not.

One table being served before us is forgivable, but 3!?!?!?!?!?! Especially when we ordered WAY ahead of them?!!?!?

The sisig might be awesome but the service is poor. I even called in for a pick-up and they told me to hold and then never came back. The whole time I was on hold I could hear them talking... then I hear a click. So I call back and I told the guy what happened and no apology. He just asks what do you want and then all we have left is sisig.

Tried to avoid the bad service by doing a pick-up and it apparently extends to their phone service. All I can do now is laugh.

Worst service ever! I would rather throw my money into the ocean than to spend another dime on this place. Unless they get a total management makeover, this place is not worth coming.

My boyfriend and I first tried this place with a group with more than ten people. I was going to give this place a three star because of the kamayan style they served, for all the people complain because they find kamayan style disgusting need to keep an openmind. There are plenty of cultures out there eat with their hands.  So we decided to come back here for a second time which was a biggggg mistake!

We sat down and waited for more than twenty minutes before the waitress with an extremely unpleasant attitude take our order. We ordered the sizzling platter for pork sisig, garlic rice and some shanghai lumpia. We thought it was going to be good so we waited for a longggg time before the lumpia finally came out.

First of all, there was a black thumb print on the plate which i will upload pictures for. The lumpia was mediocre and it was barely warm. Then we waited for another twenty minutes before of sisg plate comes out.

The pork sisig we ordered did not come with a sizzling platter while the other table did. Our dish was cold. The bottom of the plate was extremely dirty and fill with wet pink or bloody stuff of some sort. I thought maybe the food would be good and a little bit of honest dirt wouldn't hurt. We were so hungry by then that we decided to eat either ways, which was another mistake because I spend the night occupying the bathroom.

My boyfriend waved for the waitress and waited another twenty minutes before she decide to stroll in. He confronted her about the sizzling platter which she insisted we ordered the other one. Then he told her about the plates being dirty and she shrugged and look at him like he was being stupid. So he asked for the manager and she said the manager is not in. Then he ask if he could speak to the person in charged which she replied saying "there is nobody in charge."

I honestly would not be so upset if the food was at least good but it wasn't. The sisg was too salty, there are no authentic ingredients in there accept for just pork. The garlic fried rice was not garlic fried rice.

Overall, it was awful service, expansive and unhygienic.   If you ask me they should take off that out dated sticker that said "They love us on Yelp."

I had a sisig craving. So I figured.. come to House of Sisig.. right?

No. NO. Nooo. Don't come here.

It was a weekday at about 2pm. There were 2 other parties in there. I came in and ordered one pork sisig to go, which I paid for right away. It was awkward ordering.. the woman was giving me strange looks and the young guy was staring. Maybe it was the sweatpants and the beanie? Humph.

I sat down and started to play on my phone for quite a while. I was waiting  for over 20 minutes for sisig..  I kept looking up and they kept ignoring me. And 30 minutes in, I had it. I got up, went to the counter and asked where my sisig was. If I would have know it was going to take this long, I would have asked my mother to make it. The lady replied, "Oh, yes, did you pay already?" .... -__-

I finally got my food 5 minutes later. I drove home quickly, because I was absolutely starving. And I get home... scooped it on my rice.. and it was COLD. The meat was COLD. The sauce was cold. Not even tepid or room temperature, it was downright cold. And I was livid. It took me less than 10 minutes to get home, so I KNEW it wasn't me.

I called the lady and I told her that I just picked up a to-go order and it was cold, like someone had just taken it out of the fridge. She claimed that it was all freshly cooked and that it was just the sauce that was cold. I am not sure where she got this explanation, because when you cook sisig, the sauce is the pan juices. Which obviously comes from the pan fresh off the stove. I kept asking her why it was cold. And she said that the sauce they use is sitting out.

She said that if I wanted to drive back and get a new batch, that I could.. but being close to 3pm and that being my first meal of the day, I refused. I did not want to drive back. She should have offered to deliver a new one. She then suggested that I MICROWAVE it to make the sauce and meat warm. And I was like OBVIOUSLY I will have to do that, since you gave it to me COLD. I was so turned off by her attitude.  Completely rude and unhelpful.

I was furious, since I had been having this craving for quite a while now. I wanted sisig so badly. Who in the right mind gives a paying customer an old dish that had been sitting out in the fridge? No way I am ever supporting this business.

And now all my friends, family, and Yelpers know to NEVER come here. The service is beyond abominable. Even Lucky Chances will do a better job than this.

I have been ordering here for years now & this is my first review of the place. Their  sisig is the best. When they first opened their sisig was very good with the meat cut small ( how it's supposed to be) but for the past year it seems that they have been getting lazy on cutting the meat. Don't get me wrong the sisig is still tasty but the meat isnt even cut. It's like the size of tapa. I usually just order to go & the place has been packed but their customer service is a hit or miss. Another thing I noticed is that when I order two of the same item it seems to be less. Like they just made one & a half Order & split it into two. Their prices have also been going up but their service has not been getting better & their portions are getting smaller.

This was definitely an interesting experience. I've eaten complete meals with my hands before (i.e. Boiling Crab), but never anything quite like this. I came with a group of 5, and as we were waiting we noticed other tables were eating food with their hands and we all had to admit, it did not exactly look appealing. But once we sat down we decided hey we came here, let's go all the way! So we ordered one of the family meals for 4 and added a pork sisig and pancit.

Since we ordered the family style meal they covered the table with banana leaves, which looked like they had been rinsed (at best), and smelled a little funny. This is where they dumped all the food into a communal pile and it's basically a free-for-all grab fest with the food.  I could definitely see this being a deal breaker for some people, and I certainly don't recommend you take anyone here for your first date!

As for the food, it was all alright. The family meal came with fried tilapia, fried shrimp, fried pork, grilled squid, and grilled pork for the main proteins. Not bad; nothing stellar either. On the side there were freshly chopped tomatoes, onions, and mangoes. There were also some mushy eggplant that I didn't particularly care for, and salted eggs, which I also tried but didn't enjoy so much. Big pile of white rice in the middle. The sisig and pancit were pretty good; probably the best part of the meal. However, it was all rather awkward to eat with only our hands.

I don't remember exactly how much it cost, but I do remember thinking the price was pretty good considering how much food we ordered. Bottom line: I would be willing to come back if someone wanted to try it, but I wouldn't come back here on my own because it isn't nearby to me, and there are better filipino places I've been to. Still rounding up to 3 stars though in this review.

Ok came here to order food to go, the service suck big time. The lady told us to wait but then help a customer then went back to sitting down WTF!

Anyways after telling her that I am ordering food to go, she just handed me a menu basically with an attitude.

Order pork sisig - too salty, talk about high blood pressure or ordering extra rice to balance it.

Beef Steak - Pour it in a dish and it was like soup. My beef was basically drowning in way too much sauce. (I almost thought they gave me soup instead)

Chicken BBQ stick - too soft that it almost tasted fake, looks like they marinated overnight in baking soda.

What I think really killed it for me is that half the people inside were eating on the leaf table (filipino style, no plate, no fork just using their hands) all the tables looked like a total mess with food dropping on the floor, kids basically food painting their faces, old filipino man blowing his nose and then going back to picking the food with his hand YUCK!

So gross!! How can people stand eating in there?!

Intrigued by the name, I was excited to try this place and made sure that it was on the "to-do" list when we visited the Bay.  Not knowing what to expect, I found concept of eating on banana leaves and with your hands rather charming.  The restaurant was a bit small and cramped.  It was pretty crowded and hectic on a Friday night.

We decided to take our food to go and waited about 20 minutes for our order.  The service behind the counter was okay, although we did catch the owner trying to give our order to another customer.  One of the employees called her out on it  maybe cause he knew we were watching.

We ordered pork sisig, garlic fried rice, crispy pata, inihaw na bangus, and chicken skins.  The food smelled so good that the drive home was torture.  The wait was absolutely worth it--everything was delicious.  The sisig was perfect-- just the right amount of spicy and not greasy.  The chicken skin was sinfully delish.  Will definitely return the next time we're in town.

Today was the LAST time I will come here.

Pro's: the food is good (the only reason I have given them several chances).

Con's: service is terrible--the waitresses we've gotten have always been unfriendly. Our waitress gave us the most annoyed look when we asked for some soy sauce, a refill and/or a to go box.  The food takes so long to come out, and they have always forgotten a part of our order.

*ICING ON THE CAKE: At the end of our meal my little nephew went to the bathroom and came out really excited to share with us that he almost caught the mouse on the floor... WTF!?!

Your food is good, but it's not so good that I'll put up with rude service, slow service and resident rodents that have been there so long, they're no longer phased by humans.

Ordered off the Kamayan menu. For 3 people $36.95 is a value. Considering you are given Pork, Chicken, and Fish. The food itself was mediocre but I go there to support a local business. People can judge this place and say the service sucks but when you actually take the time to listen to the wait staff...their heart is in the right place and they work hard so BACK OFF! This time around, the waitress was having such a bad day. When we asked her if she was ok, she mentioned the possibility of becoming homeless and that she knows it's best to keep her spirits up for her kids. That's the reality of a recession. In spite of her situation, she's trying to stay positve though. I'm just trying to encourage everyone to have some compassion. Servers don't have the most lively job and sometimes it amazes me how people bash on them.

I enjoy eating with my hands because that's how I grew up. The only thing I would say you should pass on is the bbq chicken skewers.

What a great experience! Finally a place where I can eat with my hands and not get judged! The food was very delicious especially their BBQ chicken and Lumpia. Some certain foods did taste a little bit salty though like their mussels. The service was great and very welcoming. I am definitely coming back here whenever I visit San Francisco!

The bf was craving sisig one day after work so we decided to give House of Sisig a shot. I wanted a silog, so I ordered a Longsilog. Got a Tapsilog for the nieces and the bf of course got his order of sisig...to go.

Hot dogs ARE NOT longanisa. Not even when you try to make it the same burnt orangy-brownish color. It just is NOT longanisa. I'm pretty irritated that they would try to pass it off to me as if it were. As if I wouldn't notice? As if I'm not Filipino and have been eating longanisa since I can remember? I dont know why I got served hot dogs, I didnt even see that on the menu. If they were out I would've have rather had them tell me that, I would have gladly ordered something else.

Tapsilog- I had a bite from my nieces and it was good. Tapa nicely marinated and and not overly cooked.

Sisig- Good, but for this item to be your chosen namesake it should be great. And to me it just wasn't all that.

DON'T EVER ORDER THE "Pancit Miki Bihon" WITH CHICKEN!!!

It's gross! Pancit is very similar to chow mein: it's a mixture of noodles, meat and vegetables. I chose chicken as my choice of meat and oh-my-goodness was it disgusting! Their chicken taste like un-refrigerated chicken scraps boiled in water. (What ever happen to marinating the meat?) The pancit also comes with shrimp but those were very flavorless and small. I expect BIG, JUICY, PLUMP prawns...not scrawny, miniature shimplings. Uhhg. Unsatisfied customer.

I love this place and I love eating with my hands!!  We got the kamayan for two with a halo halo.  Fried pork, grilled fish, salted duck egg--I was a happy camper!  No complaints about the service either--they were friendly and prompt.

Enjoyed this Kamayan style with my family. My 2 kids loved using their hands to eat. Banana leaves on the table, the food is served in the middle of the table. This is 3rd world country style, hahahaha... no plates no utensils, use your hand to pick up food and in to your mouth.

Food was fine, the 4 servings is more than enough for  a party of 5 with food left for to go.

I love taking my kids to this types of restaurant for the experience.

Kamayan means using your hands without utensils. I'm pretty sure you can ask for a fork and knife if you're not up to it.

Considering the mediocre UNAUTHENTIC sisig but very edible, their service is horrible. They don't have a system.  Me and my wife sat down with a few members of our family and friends and they asked what we wanted to drink and we all said "water". We had to wait so long for water that my WIFE had to get the water herself!!! I want to say 20 min. was the wait for water.

Then we finally ordered and waited a long time as well for the food to come (30 min for grilled stuff). When they finally came around with the food they forgot to bring the condiments! And said that they would be right back with it after dropping it off. When they finally came around with the condiments we were almost done with the food they first brought out because we were already all so hungry.

Now, we were done eating and finally asked for the bill and this time it calculated more than what was listed on the tab and when I asked they said that the gratuity was included in it but didn't say on the tab; "the tip is listed on the menu if it's more than 5 people in a group" they said... Duh!! My wife and I especially knew that already but it's unprofessional for them not to include it in the calculation. All other restaurants do it why can't they to avoid confusion!!?? Because we didn't know whether to leave the tip on the table or not. (If we had to have left a tip, it wouldn't be much anyway because of their service.)

I have been to this restaurant maybe 7-8 times ever since I found out about this place; 6 out the 8 times I've been there it's been a bad experience and the worst part is that I'm FILIPINO not AMERICAN Filipino. I spoke to them in Tagalog fluently and they responded in English with a thick ass ACCENT! When EVERYBODY in the restaurant is also obviously FILIPINO!? It's like there's always a competition to whom can speak English more fluently. It seems that they have this "I know how to speak English" therefore I am your equal" attitude. Not if you work in a restaurant you're NOT! I thought this was a Filipino restaurant catering to Filipino's but it's not. I would not recommend this place to anyone who craves Filipino food. Go to LUCKY CHANCES, GOLDILOCKS or FILAM...or even TSELOGS.

To add to things...they're KAMAYAN is not great at all; First, they wipe their banana leaves with a dirty towel in front of you. They might even re-use them to save money...disgusting, just thinking if they really do or not. Second, the portions are very small. Third, the place just doesn't look that inviting...and bad service of course.

They're lucky I gave them a two instead of a one star rating after all that I've mentioned...actually meh!...I change my mind, I'll give them a one star.

Now I don't want this review for me but for anyone else to feel disgusted. I'm still going to go here no matter what.

So I usually love going to place, love the food & the service is good to mediocre BUT THIS TIME OMG. First off, the waiter named Joshua said, "Take a seat anywhere." We decided to sit in the middle table that seats four. Then he goes, "Oh can you guys actually sit somewhere else?" That's not really anywhere now is it? Took a different seat, took a few minutes to look at the menu, decided we're ready & wait. It's like five minutes later and my boyfriend sees that he's just eating, talking to the other waiters & give them little tiny massages. He finally saw us when he gave someone else their order.

Got my food, my bf got his about... a few minutes later. The thing about this though is that inbetween my food and my partner, he was talking to his other waiter friend, playing & scratching his hair. My boyfriend also said that he saw him scooting some of the food towards the middle of my boyfriends plate. Ate our food. It was great.

Had to ask for water from another waiter.
Had to ask for the check from another waiter.

While waiting for check though, we looked around the walls & noticed little bugs crawling ALL OVER the place. It was disgusting to see. Bleh. Once he handed us the check, I noticed his hands were wet. I thought to myself, "he washes his hands now?"

    Was this review …?

We dropped by here after a trip to Napa, we were totally starving and my boyfriend needed his daily fix of rice.

I looked up Filipino places close to us and we decided to go with this one.

It did take awhile for the food to come out but while we were waiting my boyfriend was chatting it up with the owners. They seemed really nice.

Their portions are pretty big and the food was good. I had the grilled liempo and my boyfriend had adobo (if I remember correctly). We also ordered calamari.

This place totally reminded me of my days in the Philippines!

I like this no-frills Filipino place that's easy to miss from Junipero Serra.  I had the spicy pork and rice because I just have to do something with garlic whenever I hit a new Asian spot.  I went for the lime flavored drink, which turned out to be good, and it got even better when the server offered to bring me a second one from a stronger batch just to see how much flavor I preferred.  Nice.

The other diners were enjoying their multiple-item orders served family-style on bamboo placemats.  I also saw something on the menu I've never seen anywhere before . . . a whole roast pig for $235.  Man, this is someplace you'd bring a whole high school football team for the season-ending roast pig banquet.

I came by the middle of last week after buying something at the Kukje Markey next block over. When I think of Filipino food, the top item that comes to mind us sinigang, my personal favorite. That's what I ordered, the one with shrimp.

Their portion is just right for one person to finish (unlike another place in SSF where it was bigger than I can handle). It was quite sour but I guess that's how they should be. The service was not the mist organized (had to ask for my bill more than once), but overall not bad. Also nothing fancy about the interior but better than most other Filipino restaurants nearby that I've seen.

Okay, why is the sisig not the most awesome sisig I've ever tasted in my life?  The place is called House of SISIG for cryin' out loud!  I still really prefer Jojoli's in UC, but really.. that's not the point. The point is that if you are going to name your restaurant after a dish, that signature dish better blow the pants off of everything else you have on the menu.  It just wasn't very flavorful, and the onions and jalapenos were chopped a little too chunky for my liking.

The other dishes we had were actually pretty decent.  Beef tapa was well seasoned (and NOT oily!!!! yay!) and the sinigang was delicious.  It was cooked such that the vegetables were still recognizable, unlike some places that let it simmer all day until anything that's fresh about it disintegrates into mush.  Oh, and the meat courses were served as silogs (with rice and eggs) for something like 8 or 9 dollars with generous portions.

Another redeeming factor is that the service here was extremely friendly on our visit which, I'm sorry to say, is hard to find in many of the Filipino joints I've been to (apparently this is in contrast to what others have experienced, but I did say on the occasion we went!).  Overall, this place is good solid Filipino food which is why they get 3 stars.... I would just suggest passing on the sisig.

Saw their promo during the show on Adobo Nation.  Got interested upon knowing they have Kamayan Style menu.  Place is small.  Decor is old.  Service is ok.  The lady who was our waitress that time was great.

We tried the Kamayan Style family menu.  Foods were yummy.

Though I dont think Im going back.  Nothing really special about their place.

    Place looks nasty.

Came here for lunch on my birthday on Sept. 3rd. Seating didn't take long but everything else did. Service was slow and we kept asking for what we needed twice because our waitress kept forgetting it.

They should be glad their food made up for it. I love eating with my hands since I grew up in the Philippines and we used to do that there. It's more relaxed that way. hehe I'm a seafood lover so their kamayan menu satisfied me with all the grilled seafood. We ordered pork sisig too and it was tasty.

I would come back for the food but they need to improve their service really bad.

I want to give House of Sisig at least 3 stars, I really do but....

    The food and service...

We ordered the "Kamayan for two" and and extra order of bangus sisig.

The first part of the order came out after about 10 minutes of waiting...
The server (a girl who said she was new, just a few months on the job) told me, "Ma'am, sorry but the condiments will come later..." I said, ok. Thinking later means that she will go to the back and promptly come out after she fetches the condiments....20minutes later, the condiments came. During those 20minutes, I see our server helping the to-go counter, bussing tables, and disappearing in the kitchen, that is why I could not catch her attention so I can ask her about my food. . Me thinks she was wearing too many hats in this place. (There was another server who was nice enough to give me my soda but complained when we asked him about our condiments that were missing- he said he was busy with his own tables).
(Condiments -- diced tomatoes and onions, bagoong, vinegar dip, lumpia dip, fried sweet potatoes)
When she came to give us the rest of the food that came with the "kamayan" order, I asked her where our bangus sisig is...She said, I will check,Ma'am....about 10 minutes later, she came back to our table saying they did not have bangus sisig...GRRRRRRRRR....

So we ate our food...the "kamayan" came with:
grilled small tilapia --was grilled very good. the fish was not dry. it was actually tasty.
bbq chicken (a handful) -- was very good. very tasty.
boiled eggplant (about half of an eggplant) -- yuck! wish they served the eggplant "torta" way.
lechon kawali (4 small pieces) -- the pork was somewhat dry but edible.
lumpiang shanghai --tasted like the frozen ones i buy from the asian stores.

When we finished eating, we saw that our server is still busy being jane-of-all-trades, we decided to go to the counter to just pay there directly...the lady there (I think I read her name as esther) who i think could be the owner/manager said that they will give us our bill at our table. So I sat my ass back down on my chair. Again, our server, who was supposed to be getting our check ready, was running around the place doing I don't know what but I was certain she wasn't tallying up our check... After 10 minutes of waiting for a check, I got up, looked at their menu for the prices of what we ordered, went back to my table and left money for the amount of what we ate...Sorry, no tips...

    Never again...

    ATTENTION!
To those that are unfamiliar with Filipino cuisine; the dishes are cooked with a lot of oil and/or deep fried. If you can get pass that, it's really pretty hearty; and not just for your arteries.

The food is very affordable and they always give you monstrous portions! My favorite is the chicken adobo rice plate with a side order of lumpia (egg rolls).

However, It's a shame that after my meal, I'll get a food coma.. zZz

The food is delicious, authentic, hearty, and very comforting. This is not diet food by any stretch of the imagination. Expect a ton of flavor, fat, and food coma.

I can't think of another food that makes me feel more connected to my Filipino heritage than Tosilog with fresh tomato or perhaps Sinigang with lots of rice. The halo halo is pretty good, too, considering it's pre-packed.

The service is...awful, which is to be expected.

For a place called House of Sisig, I would expect the sisig to be mind-blowing amazing. It wasn't mind-blowing, but it was still pretty good. They have all the traditional Filipino dishes you can want including Kamayan communal eating where you eat with your hands off of the table covered with banana leaves.

One thing is, the SERVICE IS SUPER SLOOOWWWWW. It took us 2 hours for 2 people to order, eat, and pay. 15 mins to place an order, 20 mins after we ordered, they come back to tell us they were out of the dish we ordered so we chose something else, then another 20-30 mins passes before we get our food, we eat for 30 mins, and then wait another 20-30 mins to pay and get a box for our leftovers. HORRIBLE SERVICE. Order for pick up unless you are very patient!

    - Sisig na Baboy: sizzling pork with onions, jalapenos and egg on top. get it with the garlic rice and extra sauce. minor portions were overly burnt, but overall good flavor, not too spicy depending on how much jalapenos you put
    - Bistek: overcooked and chewy, bland flavor, pieces of beef were way too big and they don't give you knives to cut it.
    - Mango Juice: tastes like thick sugar water with a hint of mango

    Food: 3 stars
    Service: 2 stars

I don't think I will ever dine in again at this place but I'll order for pick-up.

After a friend, here from Berkeley, found this place on the internet, I told him I had passed by this place a hundred times!  At first we stood in this line by the counter, because we had never been there and did not know we could seat ourselves.  The table next to us was full of people eating off banana leaves with their hands, which we wanted to do, but apparently you have to tell your waiter/waitress if you do.  The table next to us had lot's of great dishes brought to their table, such as an entire fried fish; simply plopped on their table.  It looked amazing, and I want to order it the next time I stop by.  My friend ordered the sisig silog, while I had the pork adobo.  We both loved the sisig and adobo, and his mom was featured in The Chronicle for her Filipino cooking! There was more food than I knew what to do with.

We had the sweetest young man help us, so we quite enjoyed the customer service!

They could have a better decor..as it is just about the plainest looking restaurant I have ever seen; it feels like a tiny cafeteria (don't dress up!).  Put up some paintings or photographs, something to look at after I get bored with the person I am eating with.  Just kidding!!!  Also, someone should either be directed to a table as soon as they enter, or just have a sign that says please seat yourself.  The restaurant was pretty empty when we first sat down, but filled up by the time we left, on a Saturday at lunch time.  I will most likely return.
