I knew when I went to sleep the night before that I was going to try to manipulate boyfriend in to accompanying me the following morning to House of Pies for yummy ham and cheese omelette!!
Not our first time here, but went in, got table, pretty busy cause it's saturday morning or something.
I ordered- drum roll- ham and cheese omelette!!
15 mins goes by, friendly lady brings out our food, she says "I accidentally hit wrong button for mushrooms, you want anyways?" I say ok sure that's fine, so I took omelette planning on just picking out the mushrooms. Oh, only mushrooms. No ham or cheese. :*( I sent back and said I thought she put ham cheese and mushrooms so thats why I agreed to it, I'd rather have the regular ham and cheese omelette. 8 mins-ish later it was ready. It wasn't the omelette I dreamed of eating the night before but it was ok. Accidents happen so I'm not mad at you House of Pies. Even though the slices of pie should be bigger :) -

This place isn't 24 hours? Who knew.
Stopped by for a late night meal. The food was delivered quickly enough, but was less than spectacular. Having said that, it's still better than what's made available at IHOP or Denny's. Chances are that I'll stop by again but this first go around didn't do either of us any favors. -

They have a pretty large menu. If you're craving something late at night, there's a really good chance they have it.
When I went, I got myself their so-called 'simply perfect mac n cheese'. I found that it was super cheesy (no pun). There was too much flavor going on that I couldn't bring myself to finish the whole thing in one sitting. However, to some people this might be really good to them. I'm just not a huge fan of it.
I also ordered the apple pie, but found it underwhelming. The pie was partially warm which definitely threw me off.
I liked the clam chowder that came with my dish though.
My friends ordered a chili cheese dog and a breakfast combo. Neither looked that appealing, especially the chili cheese dog. There food was not completely warm either. The fries that came with the chili cheese dogs were not fully cooked--some where cold.
As far as service goes, it's not that great. One of the waitresses seemed to completely ignore one of my friends. She started walking away before he could order so we had to call her back to get his order in. His order came out way late as well.
I'm willing to give this place another chance, but I don't think my friends will. -

As soon as you walk into this place, there is a STRONG, SWEET SMELL of their baked confections that smacks you in the face. This place is your average diner (looks like a Norms or Dennys). They have cheesecakes, meringue pies, apple pies, blueberry pies and the list goes on...I can only rate this place on the quick visit I had a for some dessert.
We had a piece of double strawberry cheesecake. Yeah, I realized I'm am purist and I like my cheesecake plain. The strawberries were good but they were too sweet for my taste. I had a cup of coffee with this. Just your run of the mill coffee. Nothing too special.
This place has an old school charm about it. I imagine it's been around for a long time. But I think they were trying to keep up with the Jones's in the nearby area and I think they had to use their remodeling funds a pick a spot in the restaurant to update so they chose the bathroom. Their bathroom is updated and looks like a modern Vegas hotel bathroom. Yeah, random. Oh and they have tvs in there too.
Overall just okay... Nothing terrible, nothing spectacular. -

My daddy used to take me here often for dinner and a slice of pie. Large selection and everything I've tried lived up to what I'd hoped it would be :)

Some of the worst service I have had in a while. Bad enough that we had to talk to the manager about it. She apologized and said that the waitress we had does not work well during the busy lunch rush. Now we understood that she was old, but if she can't handle that then she should probably find a more suitable job.
It took us forever to get anything. She barely gave us water and my cup was not even the same size as all our other cups. I got my pie before I got my actual food and she didn't even remember to give us utensils. She was nowhere to be found most of the time and our frustrations were getting pretty high. We finally got our food and for the time it took it just made our food less appetizing. My Frisco sandwich was oily and messy and just fell apart. The fries were bland and chewy. My friend got a Buffalo Chicken sandwich and there was almost no buffalo sauce on it. My Cherry Cheesecake was okay, but for a place called House of Pies I had expected more. I could have gotten something at the market and it would have tasted just as good.
Save yourself a trip and just go to Coco's or Marie Calenders. -

I really wanted to like this place because it's just so damn cute and nostalgic.. And my waitress was friendly... however, I ordered a latte and got something that was so sweet that I had to return it. Turns out their lattes come out of some machine pre-made.. So I got regular coffee, which was just ok..... I did order waffles and they were pretty good but nothing special. I was almost happy when I left but when I asked if I could buy some gift certificates for a white elephant xmas party I was going to attend later on that evening, one of the owners said well you're gonna have to wait, I'm just too busy.. and she wasn't nice about it.
I won't be going back... too bad, I didn't even taste the pie cuz the service left a bad taste in my mouth. -

A must for pies....maybe. But on the serious note their burgers and fries are not bad at all. The service is great and so are their strawberry cream pies. Fried pickles for appetizer or a spinach and artichoke dip. Some people like it some people hate it....but to me house of pies on Vermont is legendary! 4 stars....you know why....one of the best restrooms in town!

This was a pleasant random discovery the other night close to midnight while out with a friend... originally we were not sure what we wanted to do (I was thinking about getting a beer) but we ended up here and got some breakfast grub around midnight.
The crowd was very interesting to say the least. Especially the 2 couples that walked in after doing some serious hot boxing... wow... the two girls walked by our table and you could smell the pot still when they walked the other way about 5 minutes later...
overall cheap decent diner food, neither of us had any pie granted it looked tasty.but i would go back... just without any grandios ideas of the best grub ever hahaha but it was filling and sating so i guess that is all u need in a diner... -

Perhaps the strangest place I have been to in terms of the decor, the staff and the patrons. But I can't resist the Dutch Apple.

Had been here before, but it had been almost 10 years, came here for breakfast. Was looking for a down home American style breakfast, which for some reason seems to be kinda hard to find in LA.
Got the chicken fried steak breakfast with hasbrowns and toast. Was good CFS for the small diner style food this place is. Somewhere better than Dennys' but it sorta reminded me of their style of meat. But like I said, better. Lots of hashbrowns which I do love and the toast was a little thicker cut of bread which was nice. Good price, typical of that type of meal.
Want to try the pies, but didn't this time around.
Overall good experience, nice clean place, staff was fast and helpful. Would definitely come here again. -

One of my favorite spots in the Los Feliz area! So, you're done at the Greek want a late bite? Viewing an art show at La Luz de Jesus stop bye here after wards! Its a great diner serving practically everything! It's all very tasty! I've tried lots of their food and the last time I was there I ate one of their burgers! It was on grilled Sour dough bread! A little greasy, but I knew it might be, being that it had the grilled bread. It was awesome, exactly what I was looking for! Service was OK, they were busy, but at the same time it was nice to just eat and chat and not get water refilled every two seconds I hate waiters who hover!
Ah, so the best part of course they wouldn't be called the House of Pies without having amazing pies! I hands down love the Strawberry and Cream pie! This is my all time favorite pie! Soooo sweet and the creamy custard that sits underneath the strawberry's is delicious! Of course only served when the berries are in season! During my last visit I wasn't able to enjoy the Strawberry and cream pie but discovered the Raspberry Cheesecake! Wonderful! I'm never disappointed when I go, it's a great spot to try whether you're in the area or not! Yeah, I've traveled down here for just a slice of pie! Love it!
**A slice of heaven**
-Great menu, with tons to choose from
-If parking lot is full, try the streets or residential area, it's worth the walk
-MUST HAVE the pie! -

House of pies is a diner/ihop looking place that has been around forever. I compare it to a nicer Norms, especially with the remodeling and funky futuristic looking bathrooms lol.
24 hours, small parking lot, service is sometimes shoddy, food is decent, prices are a little higher than usually and yes their pies look like the ones from Ralphs except slightly better.
I like the unpretentious vibe of this place. 4 stars for all those late night memories or spitting game to hot girls only to get denied and drive home alone full on pancakes.
Memories baby. -

I have been to the House of Pies many times, too many to even count and I have yet to have pie! I always have the same thing because it is so good. I always have Huevos Rancheros. I really should try something else but it is so damned good! I have been told that the french toast and the omelets are good. I have also been told not to have a hamburger as they are awful. I will most likely stick to the Huevos Rancheros. I will say the place has the fattest customers I have seen in LA.

My cousin from out-of-state saw this place on TV and begged me to take them here because it looked so good and they wanted to try. Just came from Griffith Observatory and it was literally right at the foot of the hill when you go there. If you come here, you should definitely stop by the observatory and take in the beautiful views.
4 of us went in. Ordered 4 different slices of pie. 1 reigned supreme. To our surprise it was (drum roll) PEANUT BUTTER PIE. Unexpected surprise. It was so good that I might have dreams about it. We even ordered a whole pie to-go to take it home to our family to try. The other flavors (cherry cheesecake, Bavarian chocolate, and banana creme) were ok, but that PEANUT BUTTER PIE!!! AHHH! LOVED IT! To add on to it, all of the crusts on our pie were amazing. Best pie crust ever.
We wanted to try the strawberry pie because it was famous but it wasn't in season :(
Peanut Butter pie though. Peanut butter pie. (sigh) -

I highly, highly recommend pre-ordering your pies for the holidays. It saves you the stress in wondering if you'll have that perfect dessert you wanted to bring to the party. I don't know why I never did it before... So i ordered the requisite banana cream pie & pecan pie for Thanksgiving. The banana cream pie is my favorite so I don't need to expand on that. The pecan pie I found to be one of the better one's I've had. Way better than that 'other place' named after 'that woman'... Slight hint of spice to it. Went perfect with some whipped cream. I def recommend it.
For the Christmas holiday, I ordered the coconut cream pie and the french apple. The coconut cream was delicious. Perfect buttery crust with shards of coconut generously spread about the custard, under real whipped cream layers and topped with toasted coconut. It looked, smelled and tasted perfect. My relatives loved it and I'm sure it's something I'd order again... The french apple pie is topped with a cinnamon & brown sugar layer. It was good but cutting a slice is a bit of challenge cause it falls apart rather easily. I heated it up and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it was great. I'm glad I got the last french apple they had. Sorry for those that missed out... But hey, I called it in. Those are the benefits... HA!1 Previous Review: Show all »

My friends have been bragging about House of Pies, so I finally decided to stop by. The classic diner atmostphere is very cool. I went for breakfast and I was very pleased. My server was quick and attentive. I was really hungry so I ordered the "House of Pies Ultimate Breakfast" which is fairly priced for the large portions. The coffee was delicious as well. My friend and I shared a slice of Dutch Apple Pie- Al la mod...Yummy! It was so good that I pre-ordered 2 pies for Christmas dinner.
I'll definetly be back soon.
Thank you House of Pies! -

I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but the place does have decent diner fare with a wide selection of pies. The Denver omelette was topped with a healthy amount of cheese, but the other ingredients (ham, peppers, onions) were sort of parsimoniously scattered onto this gigantic blanket of eggs. While flavorful, I thought the egg to filling ratio too large. The English muffin was perfectly toasted and already buttered. The hash browns were yum with a nice potato crust on the outside.
I had the banana cream pie and the apple pie a la mode, and won't be ordering either again. The banana cream pie was wonderfully banana-ey with huge chunks of sweet bananas, but the custard was goopy rather than creamy. The apple pie was too sweet for me, so sweet that the ice cream tasted bland. There was a bit of sour in the apple pie, but I thought the dominant, ending note (for both pies) was excessively sweet. -

The Pie's the limit at the House of Pies. It lives up to its name with dozens of types of pies. Who doesn't love pie? Trick question, Redfoo, since everyone loves pie. About the only pies missing were Eskimo, Shepherd's, Shoo-Fly, Moon, Humble, Cow, and Cutie.
I'm a Pie Guy. My mouth is where Pies go to die. Knowing this, Olivia played the role of Pie-Eyed Piper leading Christina L., Branden R., and me to House of Pies for dessert. We split four slices because a piece of pie is worth two in the pan.
Fresh Strawberry Cream Pie is one of the house specialties. The custard cream base and strawberry head were like Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries in that they were married together, but quickly separated and didn't really match each other. Individually, each was nice. 3 stars
The Pecan Cheesecake was another blend of two pie flavors into one. The bottom is a traditional Pecan Pie with a creamy Cheesecake top. It's kind of like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes because these two radically different tastes don't appear to match, but worked surprisingly well together. 4 stars
A more traditional flavor was the Cherry Pie. When asked if the cherries were fresh, the waitress had the line of the night saying they were "Fresh Frozen." What does that mean? Isn't everything fresh frozen? Didn't matter, because the warm cherry pie was yummy. 3.5 stars.
A seasonal flavor rounded out our dessert feast. Pumpkin Cream was a sweet and spicy blend of creamy goodness. Few liked this one, but I actually did. If you aren't a fan of traditional pumpkin pie, but want to celebrate the Fall, then I recommend this flavor. 3 stars.
House of Pies may not have the best desserts in the history of pie, but it does live up to expectations when you "need" pie. -

Can't comment on the pies but they do a great early bird breakfast special menu - set me up nicely for my day. Pleasant and helpful waitress and clean bathroom, albeit small.

This place is an LA legend. I would probably recommend sticking to the pie and coffee, as there dinner items aren't that great. Go grab dinner somewhere else and then come here for the pie. It really is that good. The strawberry cream pie is amazing! Too bad it's only served in the summer.

The food here is OK but as I explained it to my friend the other night we don't go here for the regular food, we go for the pies and because they have a parking lot. In LA its impossible to park at so many places that the parking lot here means I end up here way more that I should but the pie is good and the food does its job.

Howdy! House of Pies is not a Marie Calendar's, Carrows or Cheesecake Factory. It is a little diner with a small parking lot with a tiny bathroom and a short staff that has a lot of character! On any given day, the place is packed, the wait is long, and the place smells great. If you're not there to feed your late-night craving for a slice of tart lemon meringue or a greasy Monte Cristo, prepare to wait before getting to take a bite of their fat carne asada quesadilla which comes with sour cream and chunky salsa.
Yum.
Their staff hustles, is kind, and when they aren't jam packed they are happy to go Chatty-Cathy on you. The place looks like a scene from the movie Pleasantville, as it is quite outdated. The diner is clean and they recently updated their counter, which looks completely out of place. But I don't drive all the way out to Los Feliz from San Bernardino to look at this joint, I go to chow down!
Their prices are cheap, the food is tasty, and the ambience is homey. Did I mention they have pies? Just go check 'em out! -

I like house of pies. Their bananna cream pie is one of the few things I have cravings for, and their willingness to deal with our demand to put cheese on everything has endeared me to them. However, their service is hit and miss and I think they're overpriced. Any time I eat real food here, besides pie, I look at my bill and wonder how I thought that was a good idea. This has become one of my established spots to take people (especially drunk people) in LA.

Ordered the pumpkin cheesecake and pecan pie for thanksgiving.
The pumpkin cheesecake was so weak. It lacked the deep pumpkin spices and the pumpkin flavor you expect from a pumpkin pie. The pecan pie was a lil better but as usual, was uber sweet! \
overall, i expected a lot more from this place. Don't even get me started on the service. I arrived at 630 am and pre-ordered the two pies the day before so that I can save some time. I arrived and there was nothing saved under my name and on top of that, there was ONE front-line worker who had to deal with at least 10 other pie customers. Mad-house.
Better off baking my own damn pies. -

Oh my! When places are this awful, it makes me wish I would have swung by Trader Joes to grab a bite to eat but let's be honest I probably would have gone anywhere my friend suggested because I was more interested in hanging with him than where we went to eat but this place is TERRIBLE. Upon arrival, the "seat yourself" sign was conveniently tucked away behind the front counter where a few employees pretended to work as they ignored patrons coming through the front door. I asked if we seat ourselves and was told yes, well... I sat myself right in a filthy mess - a booth with food particles everywhere and a messy table top that needed a good wiping down. I asked for some napkins and cleaned the booth up myself. One of my first questions to our server after reviewing the menu was "do you have the southern pecan pie?" and I was told yes - so I went ahead and ordered the chicken quesadilla which was ok, by ok, I mean the sort ok "ok" where you crawl into this place shit face drunk at 3a to try to get something in your system not the sort of ok where you'd ever willingly return to eat the crap. When it was time to order the pie, the whole reason why we came here - I of course ordered the pecan, only to be told they don't have it. My friend ordered the cherry pie - which taste like cough medicine to me, yuck! and I ended up ordering a slice of the chocolate cream pie, both were horrible! The chocolate cream pie tasted as though it was made from the most dirt cheap ingredients one could find. I've tasted vegan food that was far better than this when using multiple substitutes to achieve a vegan state. This tasted worse than some weird health food wannabe dessert. Needless to say, we still nibbled at these and when asked "how was everything?" my ever so polite friend said "good" and I almost died laughing! I think he was too kind to tell them they needed a name change to "House of Shit". Don't waste your time going here, no matter what you've heard or even if you are curious which is what led me in tonight - and if you've seen this place on a TV show - it's in your best interest to leave it at that.

The first time I came here it was after playing tennis with some friends. They suggested we come here to get dinner and I was thinking: "wtf, I don't want no f'in pie right now. I want a fat burger or a steak". So I said, I want some food, food. Then they told me they had good food there. I still had doubts but decided to stay with them. When I got there I asked what was good there and they suggested the fried chicken (I love me some fried chicken). That friend chicken was bomb...we also got a few different pies and they were bomb too. Damn. The only reason why I don't give this place five stars is because of the service. The place wasn't even that busy and the waitress didn't even come back to check on us. Her lazy ass just stood behind the counter doing jack sh**. I eventually had to walk up and asked for water.

The omelet was super but last visit I had the waffles which were so-so. Not sure why strawberries were "out of season" yet every other restaurant has them. I got bananas and blueberries and while the bananas were good in real cream, the blueberries were in some kind of goo that made the half of the waffles they were on completely a wasteland of goo. So this place has become pretty hit or miss.

Hadn't been here in years. Would have been longer but I can still look down and see my junk.
I have to say the food was unexpectedly good. The manager seated us and she was very friendly. She even came back several times to check on us.
House of Pies used to be quite a large chain and I think this one is still left because it is in a prime location. Hipsters galore in Los Feliz village. Trust me if a asian massage parlor with perpetual happy endings moved next door to my apt they would never go out of business either.
Had the artichoke spinach dip and the chips were hot and fresh. I love using those two words in a sentence. The salad and half tuna sandwich was great.
Nothing to complain about here. Was blown away by the mid century modern redo on the bathrooms, WOW...it's like you go to the bathroom and you are suddenly in an upscale restaurant somewhere else, kind of weird but awesome. Just like my last three hookups.
COME here often... -

This is solely for the apple pie.
I almost wept with the sheer perfection and satisfaction of their slice of apple pie a la mode.
Dear God, is there anything better? No. No there is not. The slice of pie is good for the price.
I would drive from Huntington Beach to this place, just to have a slice of HEAVEN.
I cannot say anything for the food. It looks like an old diner / dennys with space age bathrooms. This place could be a pile of rocks (albeit a clean one hopefully) and I would still come for the apple pie. -

My boyfriend and I ate here because I love pie and we thought it would be a fun little place.
The food was, meh. my boyfriend was ok with his tuna melt and slice of Banana cream. However, I was greatly unhappy with my fried pickles (worst i've ever had) and warm apple pie. My pie was what pushed this to a 1 star. It had that refrigerator or stale/old ingredients flavor. Not acceptable.
On top of bad food the inside of the dinner was the saddest, grey, 80s decor. They had a fun updated menu but that was the only thing that had been updated. We sat against the back wall in a booth and there were food splatters all over the wall along with food down the wall. No telling when that place was last cleaned.
There was also only 1 server for the whole place. There were about 10 table full and the server was so slow.
I will never be going back. Save your money. -
Review from Albert H.
We were drawn in here by a Scoutmob offer for free pie.
This is a modern American diner - remodeled recently and pretty clean, with the usual diner food and breakfast served all day. They have a small parking lot outside, but even when the parking lot is full, the restaurant can be pretty empty inside.
It wasn't all that crowded on a Sunday morning, and though we were offered table seating, we sat at the counter. Service was generally friendly when you could get their attention, but it took some doing before we could find someone who seemed to indicate that they were willing to honor their pie offer, or had even heard of it before.
We got a coffee, an iced tea, and ordered a slice of strawberry cream pie and a slice of key lime. The pies were decent, though nothing special. Key lime was described as having a flaky pie crust, but was actually graham cracker - very airy, almost whipped texture, no meringue though served with a little whipped cream ( tasted canned ). Strawberry pie slice was much larger and had plentiful fresh strawberries with a decently flaky crust. Took a while for them to get around to cutting the slices for us, though.
The redemption of our Scoutmob offers was a byzantine process involving several individuals and multiple miscommunications ... but in the end we did get free pie - about a $9 savings between the two of us.
They are definitely trying ... everyone we talked to was relatively friendly, if sometimes rushed. But we did feel ignored overall, not comfortable or especially welcome. We will probably not be back. -

The Los Feliz Eggs Benedict.
I love my Benedict and this place did a great job. For $9.75 it came with delicious hash browns and avocado.
Instead of ham, they had sliced turkey. But not lunch meat turkey. It was slices of turkey breasts which I completely enjoyed. The traditional ham in Benedicts gets salty at times. The turkey was moist.
The eggs were perfectly poached and the sauce was smooth. -

With holiday season just around the corner, i'm making sure I order my Pie from the house of pies. The food itself at this join is meh...burgers, salads, chicken fingers, and really a menu that seems to be all over the place. But the pies/desserts are to die for!
The pie crust is moist, the filling is sweet but not sweet to give you insta-type II diabetes. My recommendation is their Strawberry pie (if in season) and the Pecan Pie. (#drool).
The staff is extremely friendly, especially a waitress name Karina, who always helps me out every time I go. She recommended me a Pineapple cheese cake that blew everyone away @my last dinner party!
BTW, the bathrooms at this joint were recently remodeled, and are super high tech and clean (PLUS).
*Mega Plus:This place is open late!!!*
