So good. Hibachi is great, sushi is great. I've been going here since 2006 and I've yet to have anything to complain about. Easily the best Japanese/Hibachi restaurant in Hagerstown.

Love their food, but I can only afford the lunch specials! Lower your prices just a little bit, please! You're losing the dedicated regulars!

Why am I just now writing a review on this place! I have been coming to this place for the past 10 years, and it has yet to disappoint.  I come here pretty much anytime I visit home, so about once every couple of months or so. The sushi here is very fresh and appetizers are really good as well. The owners are great and always give us complimentary ice cream....they are just really sweet people.

Things to try when you are here:

    Green Tea
    Tempura Appetizer
House of Kobe Salad (dressing is killer)
Hand Wraps & just about anything off their Sushi Menu
Red Bean/Green Tea Ice Cream (sounds weird, right!  It is pleasantly soothing and not too rich.)

Try it ,and I am sure it won't disappoint!

I frequent here quit a bit for lunch and/or dinner. Usually sit at the sushi bar.

The service has always been well above average.

The food is always great. IMO the sushi has always been top shelf but my last trip something changed a little. The usual sushi I would order had an extra something added. I think they have a new sushi chef adding his own flare and it's a welcome addition!

Looking forward to my next visit.

Best sushi in DC Area (yes, in Hagerstown)!

My mouth is watering as I write this.

    Recommendations:
    1. Green tea ice cream
    2.  Spicy whitefish/tuna
    3.  Double ecstasy roll (yowser!)
    4.  Shabu shabu or sukiyaki (not sushi, but a good hot pot dish)
    5.  Any nigri sushi
    6.  Spider roll (soft shell crab)

I have to say after reading many of the reviews I was excited to enjoy the sushi at Kobi, but whoa, what a disappointment.
First I wills tart with the order.  I called it in because I was eating it out, and while I know this is not the best way to enjoy sushi, I haven't really ever had an issue with it before.  I studied the menu straight from their online site and when I called and started ordering, it was like they had no clue as to what I was talking about.  I ordered a Chefs Special, which is pretty much a Philly and an Indy and they had no clue what I was talking about. In fact they asked if I called Kobe and I said yes that I was looking right at their menu.  So after a detained description of my order, I picked it up.  Restaurant was clean and the bar looked like a great place to go and sit.  When I sat down to eat, I was very disappointed.  The avocado was not fresh at all, plenty of brown and black to go around, The salmon was definitely old, and the overall taste was just not appeasing.  The soy sauce was also very bitter and left a poor taste in the mouth.  I consider myself a sushi eater and will pass the next time I'm in the area.

I'm not going to lie, when you think of sushi in Hagerstown -- well, you don't. Came here last week with my boyfriend and his brother and I was beyond pleasantly surprised by the quality, service and atmosphere of House of Kobe. The fish was excellent - super fresh tuna and the rolls were pretty decent size.

Between the 3 Sapporo's, 4 rolls, salads and edamame what would cost us easily $100 in the District was around $65 with tax and tip. Such a bargain, but much better quality!

I know the Hibachi is sort of gimmicky, but I want to try it next time I'm up there. Overall, great value! Will be back.

When I saw that there was domburi on the menu, I was super-excited to try this restaurant. Call me strange but I enjoy eating my dinner out of one container whether it be a ginormous bowl or a Styrofoam box. Sadly, my unagi domburi which came in a lacquer box was less than impressive. The unagi was drenched in sauce and there wasn't enough rice. On the other hand, my friend's chicken and egg domburi looked like it was going to burst out of its box. My other friend quite enjoyed her yaki soba. It was unlike any yaki soba I had before, the noodles being thicker and reminded me more of lo mein but it was still tasty amidst its identity crisis. Obviously, I chose poorly with my meal but I'll give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt and rate 4 stars. If I were to make another visit, I'd try out the chirashi, sushi or something else.

Our sever was friendly and attentive with our drinks. The hibachi grill sounded exciting...I guess. While we were in the restaurant area, I actually forgot that there was a hibachi until raucous, frat party like noises came from behind. The sushi bar looks nice and a good place to chill alone or with a friend. Checking out the lunch menu available during the work week, the prices are reasonable enough that I'm jealous I can't visit this place to work through the menu to discover what treasures it might hold.

I've been to House of Kobe twice since I've been coming to Hagerstown, and both trips have been very good.  I've always gone sushi, so I can't speak to the hibachi, but other reviewers have you covered for that.

Chirachi was $23.95 and came with a high quality, but relatively standard assortment.  It included Hokkigai, 3 types of salmon(smoked, raw, & seared), maguro, tai, tamago, ebi, ika, tobiko, kani, and a few others that I couldn't identify.  The tuna steals the show in the bowl; dark-red, high quality...doesn't have the watery, previously-frozen taste at all.  The seaweed salad is also a large enough portion to split.
The nigiri list is substantial, and the maki look interesting as well, but nothing mind-blowing.
Although I didn't sit at the sushi bar, it looks appealing and the sushi chefs seem friendly as well.
Even if House of Kobe was located outside of Hagerstown, it would still be competitive.  If you're in the mood for sushi and you're in the area, don't be afraid.

My husband and I have eaten sushi all over the world and we like House of Kobe very much. The food was fresh, creative and reasonably priced. We were surprised when we got our tab considering the amount of food we ordered and the amount of sake and beer we drank...for the two of us it was approx $65.

The place was very busy on a Saturday night and I generally take that as a good sign overall.

Love this place! Fanastic sushi and roll selection! Fresh and imaginative creations made by friendly chefs. Sit at the bar if you don't want to wait. They also have hibachi and although I haven't had that yet, it looks popular with the local folks. All around great for sushi!

Great sushi at reasonable prices.  We particularly enjoy the tempura-fried sweet potato rolls.  Nice presentation, decent atmosphere, friendly and attentive service.  Good for carry-out too.  We always leave full and having spent less than anticipated.

If you've been to one Japanese steakhouse, you've been to them all as far as form and format. We ate on the sushi bar side. The nigiri sushi was fresh and flavorful - 4 stars. More interestingly, we had some very tasty and unique house specialty rolls, e.g., spicy tuna with a hot crab (chunks!) sauce on top so 5 stars for that. Service was very sloooooooow and the place was only 1/3 full on a Saturday night. The bottom line is if you're in Hagerstown and want sushi, it's a good place to go. But don't do expecting to have a WOW experience. That said, I would go again.

Kobe has sushi, various japanese offerings and that teppanyaki style where the chef comes out and cooks on a grill in front of you.  I personally don't like all that drama at a meal, but certainly some people do.  But Kobe also has regular table seating and a sushi bar as well.  There sushi is good, but a little pricey.  They have some fried rice specials at lunch too, and judging from my colleagues meals, this is the way to go if you are after a big lunch.  Kobe is owned by a Japanese guy and his Korean wife, and their sons frequently staff the register.  The waitresses are all Korean though, and this is frequently the reason I visit, because they are all so friendly (one lady is even from the small town in Korea that I lived in, small world!).  If you are in H-town and you want some sushi, you can't go wrong here.

Sushi is an art.  Hibachi is a talent.  House of Kobe excels at both.  On our visit there we went with a large group (9) and had hibachi table all to ourselves.  The chef was amusing, though I've certainly had better.  Perhaps he hadn't had as much saki as other chef's I've encountered.  The sushi was very good and I would say well priced, especially compared to its north east counterparts.  The sake menu is limited while they do have several Japanese beers on hand.

I am a big fan of Sushi. Kobe offers an various original Sushi. That's the biggest plus for them. Not many places you can find the original Sushi taste. Their shabu-shabu is not the best, I just can't find other places to eat shabu-shabu.They have good Hibachi. Good talent. Good chef.
Their price is little bit pricey for the place like Kobe, not the area but the restaurant itself.  The reason I only give 4 out of 5 stars is because of the place. They need to improve the restaurant. They need to renovate the restaurant, the look, the style inside, add more rooms.
