This was our first time at the HOB Gospel Brunch. I bought tickets for my husband's birthday as this has been a dream of his (ours) to attend.
We chose valet parking and that was super easy! Doors do open right at 11:00 but is worth getting there a little early to stand in line as this way you get to grab your food and drinks quicker! We were not quite sure what the dress code was, so we dressed business casual and were fine. There were people there who dressed up and some who dressed down.
I read several of the reviews and saw that several people had mixed feelings on the food. I thought the food was incredible. I loved the omelet and waffle station as well as the BBQ chicken, Mac n Cheese, desserts, pastries were all to die for!
The entire staff was amazing, friendly and helpful! The music was great and when they broke out in a Soul rendition of "We are Family" we were HOOKED! We met some great people who were at our table and became fast friends! We are already planning out next visit with them! -

I love coming to this House of Blues to see my favorite bands, because it is an intimate setting and the sounds is great. Sure, you are being pounded in the back by Mr. Drunk and his date, Ms. High as a Kite, but the music is awesome and I can ignore morons.
We saw Parachute and OAR here. Parachute was great...I had heard a song or two on XM, but I was unfamiliar with the band. I will definitely be going to get their album - their 45 min opening set was great. After 30-35 minutes to reset the stage (GEEZ!), OAR came on and played for 2 hours or so and they were AWESOME. I think that they covered each of their albums, and they of course played most people's favorites. I was fortunate enough to be within reach of the band, and they awesomely greeted everyone after the show.
The staff is very friendly...I am a music girl, so I skip the bar and everything else. But, they do the show right. -

Gospel brunch- worth every cent! Went to our first Gospel Brunch today and had an amazing time. First- we found street parking literally across the street which made the idea of going to a club on a Sunday morning the most brilliant move ever!
Got our tickets with ease at will call and asked a super friendly staff person inside the HOB store where to go next and she let us know where to head.
There was a line outside but it moved quickly- like really quickly. They literally have a staffer that walks you to your seat and gives you the tour of the buffet and coffee bar, etc. He then lets us know he'd be back to bring drinks and stuff when he seated the rest of the people. Guess what he did? He came back and got drinks just like he said. Almost unheard of these days. He was fun, friendly, helpful and personable.
At one point we had a question to ask and he said he needed to have the manager help us with it. Guess what happened? The manager came over to help us with that issue. I can't tell you here what it was but I will tell you that this manager and staff member were top notch in the customer service department. Amazing.
The music was phenomenal, and everyone had a blast . There was so much energy in the music and it was impossible not to smile and clap and feel psyched about life. But really though - a huge highlight of my day was good old fashioned customer service in full force at the House of Blues.
Im a jerk for not remembering our server's name. We were at table 2 on the floor and he had a pony tail and energy and smiles for days.
Way to go HOB staff- it's so nice to see people take pride in their work and have fun doing it. -

This review is for the venue & not the restaurant. Never knew they even served food here!
Its not a big venue but it's a lot of fun. I've came here for a couple drum&bass shows on fridays. It looks like a big shack on the outside. I've never had trouble w/ any of the staff here & I had fun both times I've been here. Would definitely come here again. It's definitely a lowkey, laidback vibe & crowd compared to the rest of Hollyweird. -

The food is not my cup of tea and often leaves me with heartburn. If you're going to eat there, do take some Tums.
The real reason I go to HOB is for the music and their "pass the line" idea to get into the venue before the rest of the other concert goers is a little outrageous. You have to buy an expensive item off their menu (which is terrible) or spend 20 dollars in their store (also horrible items). It's a crime to charge that on top of a ticket price, so no one should do it. If you want to be in front...Just wait. The venue isn't that big and unless you're straight back and blocked by the sound booth, there's no bad spots. Oh unless you're behind the pillars...
But they book good shows, so all the good outweighs the bad. -

My girls and I come here often for Steel Panther on Monday nights. Their show is *always* a good time and we happily bounce up to the Foundation Room to keep the party going afterwards.
However I have a bone to pick with the *downstairs* bar staff: I consistently wait far longer for a cocktail than any patron should. If I'm not getting ignored for a prettier girl (Dude; I HAVE been fighting to make eye contact here for 10 minutes and she *just* bounced up) I'm ignored for a conversation with a buddy, I'm ignored for a text or I'm just plain ignored. I've called them out on it a couple times in person and then I'm just treated like some bitch they don't want to deal with no matter how nicely I express my disappointment.
I'm one of those sorts who always have a smile on my face and it takes quite a bit to bring me down, but these guys have magically found the way.
Go to the show, have a great time, just don't expect stellar service at the downstairs bar. -

This place is awful.
I went to house of blues for a night event where there was dj's and music.
I kept getting attitude from all the security there- major attitude!!
I was buying bud lights for 11.00 each!! what kind of deal is that?
towards the end of the night i drank a lot- but wasn't belligerent or violent- rather happy go lucky... so here comes this jerk security again asking me to move along- he doesn't see my v.i.p. pass.
he keeps pushing me and roughing me up until i am outside at this point i push him back.
The security and his friend hold me down with there knees on my head and shoulder until cops come and take me away.
what did i do?
i don't feel i did anything wrong.
they are full of themselves and i wouldn't mind if house of blues burned down.
nobody wants to spend 25.00 on 2 beers- that's just logic.
they should get their head out of their asses if you know what i mean.
I WILL NEVER GO THERE AGAIN!
and if your thinking of bringing a date there the place smells like vomit- just the truth! -

I came here last Sunday for a reggae concert and we decided to have dinner also. My nephew ordered the Pulled Pork Samich and he said it was really good, that was about $13. My son ordered the Chicken Ceasar Salad and that was good as well, that was $13. The only sucky part of the salad was that the romaine lettuce was not chopped. So it was long pieces of romaine lettuce, guess they were too lazy to chop it up! I had a side of mac & cheese, which was $4. Pretty good. I liked it. Then I had a side of Sweet Potatoe Fries = $4, that was yummy! For dessert we had the banana bread pudding cake... OMG!! it was like a party in my mouth! That damn thang was soooo DELISH!!!!
Of course I would come back here to eat! -

It's a must for dinner!!! I just know the ribs, mac and cheese is tha bomb!!!! The show is standing room only. And the is to be expected! Outside of that, love Issac at the front door. Makes sure we had wrist band and told us where to go! Super nice

This review is only for the concert venue, not the restaurant. I was here a few weeks ago for The Pistol Annie's and although the concert was fantastic, I left with mixed feelings about the venue.
Like other HOB locations, I like the intimacy of the venue. The big tip is to arrive early for a good spot. It fills up fast!
My biggest grip was the valet parking. It's really due to the location, on a hill, which makes it a nightmare. We were at a sold out concert and it took forever to get our car, even with paying twenty for the closer valet. I prefer other HOB venues. -

Been to the House of Blues once and let me tell you I absolutely loved it. I went for a I LOVE LA event. It was Smog vs. Respect I think? Anyways it was a $5 dollar cover for being on the rsvp list, a plus. I go inside its huge. Theres one dance floor along with a standing area by the sound stage ( across from the stage ) There were 2 bars? The bathrooms. OMG being a girl and having to use the restroom every other minute is annoying. The bathrooms were pretty spacious which meant no line .
It got pretty packed super quick. The sound system in this place is amazing. Super bass. I would mind going back.
One thing that got me super mad was PARKING. Okay I understand we have to park our cars in a lot nearby, but $15 bucks? For that price they better wash my car and wax it. I had a bad experience this night one of the illegal valet guys punched my car because i parked my car where he told me, which was so hard because the smace was big enough for a bike. IDIOT I wish I had the name of the valet so I can sue his ass. Anyways the House is Blue's was definitely a success. I'll be back, promise. -
Review from Zoie H.
I can't even be bothered to write a "real" review here, I guess that's why there's only three stars.
The good :
- Close (like.....200 feet perhaps) away from a bus stop in both directions. Fuck paying for parking, just hop on the MTA #2 - encore usually ends 15 minutes before the 12-something bus and that way you can drink more too.
- Good sound.
- You can see the band from practically anywhere, unless you're stuck behind a pillar.
- Indoors. Free water.
- Sufficient bathrooms, all with locks, and a super friendly attendant in the women's restroom downstairs.
- Lines move pretty fast to get in, getting out also doesn't take that long either.
- Box office is open extra long on the day of the show so you can get your tickets there.
The bad :
- Concerts here can be somewhat expensive. $30 for the Casualties, WTF?! Plus add some drinks to that - you could easily drop over $100 a person.
- I heard parkings a real bitch, the two times I've used it (albeit as a passenger in someone else's car it took forever to get out. Think of it as 4 valets, 200 cars).
- Security can be spotty. At a metal concert I wasn't searched at all and quite frankly could have walked in with a bazooka. At a much less violent show I had to go as far as taking female-stuff out of my purse.Listed in: Musical Adventures.

Had the opportunity to see J Boog perform here 1/15/12. This was my first time seeing a show at this HOB location. Some other reviewers mentioned problems with security. Other than one hefer at the front door I thought all of the staff was very accomodating and super friendly. Got to chill backstage with J Boog and Detour Posse before the show. Respect! Massive Big Up!!! Several comfy couches and chairs in the dressing room to kick back in while watching the big flat screen. Fridge was stocked with water, juices, Heineken, and A gallon of milk oddly enough. Plenty of Hennessey to warm up with too. That's my Drank!!! I had the chili spiced short ribs for dinner. Not too bad. Kind tricky getting around backstage as it's almost like a damn labrynth with all the stairs, ramps, doors, and twists and turns in the tapestry lined halls and elevators. Once we finally made our way to the stage the Sound in the venue was great. A positive vibe flowed throughout the crowd. I definitely like this location better than the Anahiem location. Wilmer Valderrama came after the Golden Globe awards to give J Boog props and Fiji got on stage and performed with J Boog too. Detour Posse came with it, backup vocals by JR,Derrick, and Lauren were tight and J Boog shut it down as always. I had one hell of a great time here got some great photos and memories and that's not even including after hours! That's a whole other review! Let's Do it Again!!!

This review is for the sunday Gospel brunch. The singers and the show are absolutely outstanding! Obviously, it is gospel music but the show is not overly religious to the point of making anyone feel uncomfortable. The singers do a GREAT job of getting the crowd pumped. very high energy and fun!! Five stars for the entertainment.
The organization on the other hand... 1 star. The doors opened late (which was very annoying as it was extremely hot and we were all standing in line in the beating sun for 20+ minutes), they got our table assignment messed up and the solution was to relegate us to the "upstairs". You do NOT want to be upstairs. They claim there is a private buffet up there. Yes, but it is 1/4 the size of the one downstairs. The downstairs buffet ran out of plates, leaving patrons standing in line for 20+ minutes while they scrambled to find some more. There was one bartender serving everyone in the venue. Very poor organization and management for an event the house of blues has been doing for such a long time! It really seemed like this was their first event.
All things considered, this was a really fun and unique gift for my mom for her birthday. She had a blast (even danced on stage!) and was just a fun experience! I think the tickets are a tad overpriced given the lack of service and the quality of the buffet food. I would consider doing this again and just making sure I don't rush to get there. The doors open at the time they say the show starts, but really its just the buffet that is open for the first hour, the music doesn't start until the 2nd hour. Also, do yourself a favor and park somewhere other than the HOB valet lot. It was a big mess trying to get out after the show! -

I have to agree with my good friend Myrna J. and her review is spot on ...the BEST VENUE, HANDS DOWN.
I've been to the Anaheim one, and yes it has free parking and many restaurant choices, etc. But I'll never forget my experience at HOB Sunset Strip.
CONS:
SM Blvd Traffic
$20 Valet Parking
and slanted drunken stumbles...err I mean walks to Saddleranch across the street after the concert... or is that a pro? You decide. =)
The first time I went here I saw Moenia with Myrna J. and friends and had an awesome time. I wasn't familiar with the band, or their music and I can't speak/understand Spanish but they were so awesome I danced the night away with my friends in the pit, got super close to the lead singer, and took so many shots of tequila...man...WHAT A NIGHT!
I loved it so much, I was so glad my boyfriend got me YELLOWCARD tickets for my birthday! They're my favorite band of all time...loved them ever since 2003...back when I hit the hot chocolate a little too hard and I was sporting chucks. =D Saw an acoustic set and I met them in 2007 right before their hiatus and they're the sweetest bunch of guys on the planet, so talented, so friendly, easy to talk to and HIGH FIVE with I had to see them again with a full on rock performance.
Seeing them at HOB was so awesome. I ate in the restaurant to get the BEAT THE LINE access...a smaller line that gets let in before the regular line. You have to order an entree each to qualify, just tell them you're there for the performance and they mark off your receipt and you make your way over to the bottom entrance. I definitely recommend doing this if you LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the band you're seeing and you want to be right in front. This ensures that you will be front and center in the pit.
I ordered the Menchego Mushroom Burger with fries ($14) it was a lot better than I thought...actually it was really delicious...yes I'm looking at you Hard Rock Cafe (gross). The burger was cooked to perfection and the meat had diced mushrooms mixed in to it...It came with a side of crispy fries and a red onion, lettuce leaf, tomatoes and three sauces: peppered ketchup, tangy mayo and a slightly spiced honey mustard. I also ordered the molten chocolate cake ($5) - super rich it comes with a dollup of whipped cream (wish it came with a shot of baileys).
When I got in I was able to snag a spot in front of the stage!! Even though people pushed and shoved me since it was the pit area...it was so worth it as I got to see Ryan Key crowd surf while singing and Sean Mackin even posed for my camera!! I even scored a guitar pick which will now be taped to my autograph and picture with them.
What I love about HOB staff is that they saw me get mega trampled in front and security escorted the person out. YEAH!!
Ryan Key said during the start of the show, "No one leaves with their voices intact." Well I screamed/sang out and jumped out every song and lost my voice and my ears are STILL ringing. My boyfriend can't hear out of his right ear. HAHA.
I also left my HEART at HOB, my teenage musical dream come true. Best ever!! -
Review from Emi T.
As a venue for a show, HOB is one of the best locations I've been to. Their sound system is decent, the layout is great, and the fact that there's more than 1 bar (with great choices), and a restaurant attached (although the prices seem a little high for some of the food they serve) makes the place even better.
I'm writing this review in regards to the AWFUL service my friend and I received.
Since we were invited by the band playing that night, we were given a green wrist band at the industry check in, which meant that we were allowed in the balcony area. At least, that's what we were told by the guy handing out the industry passes. My friend and I go upstairs, and take a seat on the table with a sheet of paper indicating that the seats were reserved for guests of the band. A bouncer in a yellow shirt approaches us, and rudely tells us to get out of the seats. My friend told him "We were invited by the band, and were told we were allowed up here", to which he snaps "THAT TABLE IS FOR THE BAND!", to which my friend replied "Um... I think the band is going to be performing on stage, they wouldn't be sitting here during the performance...", the man snaps again, "Those seats are for crew only, you can't sit there! You can buy a seat for $25 per person!" thinking that this was true, my friend handed her credit card to a waitress to start a tab so we could have some where to sit. (the waitress was very pleasant) Soon after our food and drinks arrived, another man (who was apparently the host) approaches us and tells us we need to move AGAIN, since the table we were seated at was reserved for another bunch of guests. We were moved to a tiny bar table in the back, which was barely big enough for all the food and drinks that we ordered. On top of that, we could barely see the stage from there. After telling the host that we didn't understand why we had to pay $25 each for a crappy table, he apologized and told us that he was getting us a round of drinks as an apology. This was when I noticed 2 women who were sitting at the table that we were sitting in the first place. Since I saw them wearing the same green wrist bands that my friend and I were wearing, I approached the host and told him that we were guests of the band, and were given the green wrist bands. He says "Oh I'm so sorry I didn't even notice that you guys had that!" and places us on another table that was supposedly reserved for the guests of the band. HOWEVER, we were to be moved AGAIN, for the THIRD TIME, since the table that we were placed on were for another group.
Throughout the night, there were so many people without wrist bands hanging out in the balcony area (reserved for guests), squeezing in between tables, pushing up against people who were seated to get a better view of the performance. The staff there basically did NOTHING to stop them, even though they managed to move my friend and I THREE TIMES because they kept on placing us on "wrong tables'.
There was no real apology, none of the "free rounds", and I had to deal with so many rude staff members that kept on shuffling us around like we were children who didn't know what we were doing. Ironically, they were the ones who had no clue what they were doing.
Either HOB needs to get their shit together and figure out a better system, or figure out how they reserve tables. And hire staff that don't yell and talk rudely at guests of the performers... I have serious doubts of coming back here. -

Parking sucks everywhere in Hollywood and greater Los Angeles, even in paid restaurant lots ($15!!) so once that money-sucking factor is set aside, the food is outstanding. I recommend the cornbread & maple butter to start. HEAVEN! And lobster mashed potatoes! Must stop. Craving too much.
Ah and the concert venue! Very intimate with the band/artist you're watching. It's a nice change from larger impersonal venues. Especially when it's Tool or a like band playing, that feels more comfortable in a smaller more personal setting. -

The Sunday morning Gospel Brunch is incredible!! Seats are pre-assigned so no need to wait in line well before 11am like we did. I'd say show up 10 minutes til and you're good to go. You walk in, are swept to your seat, and can immediately hit up the bar for included non-alcoholic drinks (juice, water, coffee and tea) or pay an extra $10 per person for bottomless mimosas and bloody marys. Best deal on the sunset strip. The music is amazing and the service is top notch. The buffet has salad, omelets, fruit, desserts, breakfast meats, waffles (which can be skipped), grits and more. Way to go, House of Blues.

I've been to the House of Blues' all over the United States, but I have been to the House of Blues many more times on the Sunset Strip, since it's fairly close to home.
I've eaten the food and sat at the bar while friends are in town, and before shows. I've even attended the Gospel Brunch on Sunday, which I have to say was really fun. The food is pretty good. I'm not going to rant and rave about the food. It's good.
The bar can get crowded during the evening when a show is occurring. During the nights when there isn't a show happening, the bar isn't as bad. The price of the drinks can depend on how well you get to know the bartender. For the most part, the prices are a little more expensive then other places.
The House of Blues as a music venue is fun. I like the small intimate setting to be able to get the feel of the music and the crowd. I've seen hundreds of bands perform at the House of Blues over the years. I've never had a bad experience from a spectator/patron point of view.
They staff has always been friendly to me, even when I was so inebriated and caused a scene. They were taught well how to handle out of control drunks. The restrooms are clean, and the bar staff know when to say, "No more for you". Seriously though, I like the House of Blues and will continue to return, even though the parking at the House of Blues on Sunset is awful. -

I LOVE THIS VENUE!
The lighting is incredible, the security is great, crowd is... manageable, and I love how high the stage is! No matter where I stood (for the most part) I could see the band playing (I'm 4'10", so that says a lot though I was wearing 3" heels). The venue is pretty intimate as well. Small venue for a big band is ahhhmayzinggggg, it reminds me a lot of Slims in SF.
Acoustics are great. I wish it was a bit quieter, but eh, it's still pretty good considering I've been to worse places.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the sound system (freaking impressive sound board, yo) and lighting is perfect for the show I saw.
I parked off two blocks or so away (really not a bad walk) at $12. Not too bad~~
I'd DEFINITELY come back here for another show. (: -

Wha? Steel Panther at another House of Blues? Yes, we went. On Halloween no less. Two celebrity appearances on stage. Two celebrities (three if you count Gene Simmons' son) in the audience having a blast. Got there early - had easy valet parking (priced similarly to the nearby lots, why not just park right there). Expensive beverages... bathroom a bit icky... But the music is the music and that's why we're there.
Similar to the HOB in Vegas - I now presume they all have similar decor. -

Chaos. Pure and utter chaos. A s___ s___, if I was allowed to write such things on Yelp.
And it's mostly my fault.
I mean, who goes to the House of Blues on Halloween night? After nabbing two tickets from a woman dressed up as a gyspy, I walked into the lower level of the House of Blues only to be jostled all the way to the bar (first by an obese man dressed as a bee and then by a pair of husky women dressed up as - I kid not - beer barrels). Later, I elbowed my way to the dance floor only to be dance-punched in the stomach and crotch-kicked by a man dressed up like Beckham. It was THAT crowded. Even as the hours wore on, the crowd swarmed and swarmed until there was barely any room to lift my beer to my mouth.
On the plus side, the DJ was first rate, the people viewing fabulous, and it's too crowded for someone to see you puke on your costume... Patsy from Ab Fab, in case you were wondering. Small consolation for feeling like cattle fenced in. -

How can I not be happy with or excited about a music venue that has many Amazing performers adorning the stage?
I went for a Trapt concert here...yep yep "Headstrong"
I also saw Tyrese perform here as well compliments of a friend invite.
Yes has been awhile for a concert, however has not changed a bit! I was just here for drinks and schmoozing...still a rockin time to be had!
This concert venue rocks!
Music is my life...
The only downfall is parking, very small limited lot. Once had to park down a few blocks and hike it up in heels. Tip: Arrive early!
Enjoy a drink at their bar or a bite to eat, all is on site with a great stage to enjoy a concert.
It is small and intimate, so you can get up close and personal and enjoy whoever you have chosen to see.
They have listings of all upcoming concert events on their website to keep up to date, and makes it easy for ordering tickets in advance.

Burger #217 - Burger Brutality
You can work up an appetite being trapped in HOB during an all day, no ins and outs show. And after 5 hours of non-stop unrelenting brutal death metal, I needed some food.
http://www.youtube.com...
After seeing a dozen shows at HOB, that was my first time dining and I had zero expectations. I ordered the BBQ bacon burger, medium-rare. A bit later, this showed up.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
It smelled good, the bacon was crispy, but the meat was a little over cooked and cried out for salt. But after a dash of S&P, the burger wasn't half bad. Even being cooked past medium, it was still rather juicy and had some good beefy flavor. Not bad and I was happy that it cost less than a tall boy of PBR did downstairs.Listed in: Burgers Burgers Burgers

I'm only writing this short review to comment on the bartender service. Those guys are frickin' a-holes. My friend and I just wanted a beer, so we asked what was on tap and what the price was for different sizes. A small 7oz for $7, or 14oz for $11. We were not planning to stay much longer so decided to skip out on a drink. Bartender thought we were cheap, so he yells, "Welcome to Hollywood!" implying that their tiny (and likely watered down) drinks are the norm and somehow worth it. Indeed, welcome to Hollywood, where bartenders are jerks and drinks are overpriced. Not worth our time or money, so we soon skipped out and headed to Beirgarten down on Western Ave (much better selection of brews).
I still don't get what the draw for this place is. Other than good live music (if/when they have it), I never enjoy myself when I'm here. -

We were at a recent Monday night Steel Panther show. We loved that it was a small venue and that we could get up close and personal with the band. My husband is a photographer and got some great shots.
We got stuck next to a group of drunk girls who kept spilling their drinks on stage. The first few times it happened the bouncer on stage rushed to clean it up, that got old after a few times and he just shook his head. I know it is not the fault of the venue, but MAN, those girls were annoying.
We would gladly return for another Steel Panther show!
We did not bother to try and find parking here. We cabbed it from the hotel. -

I came here for a WuTang concert and it was pretty awesome. The venue was kind of small for a WuTang concert, but whatever it was good sweaty fun.
Parking was terrible, just terrible. I highly advise you to take a taxi if you're planning on coming here for an event, HIGHLY ADVISE! -

We went there for dinner and a show with some friends last week. The restaurant is great. Good food, big portions, really tasty.I'd eat there again but after not going to see a show there for a few years I remembered why I haven't been back.
This money grubbing mega enterprise treats people like cattle. Bouncers everywhere shooing people here and there. They charge a $150 minimum to sit at a a table to watch the show. Not sure what they charge for a single bar stool but they try to make as much money as possible on bar stools in addition to the steep concert price and $15 valet. Standing up at shows is fine or at least bearable for people in their 20's and 30's but I just can't hack it any more for 5 hours. All we could get is a lean on a small counter which people were fighting over all night. I heard people complaining about the priced bar stools in the roped off sections all night. IF they just let people be comfortable they would enjoy themselves and buy drinks. We were all so pissed we didn't buy any drinks that night. One of our friends bought a can of beer for $8 but we had been gouged by HOB enough already. We will never go back. No concert is worth being treated like that, spending so much for so little. I came here to see the Lost 80s Show with When in Rome, Bow Wow Wow and Flock of Seagulls. It was a totally awesome show. My hubby and I are not very tall and we had no problem finding a good spot to view the stage.
We purchased the pre-show buffet. The ticket said the buffet was at 7:00, but when we showed up we were told the buffet was from 5:30-6:30. The manager gave us a table at their restaurant and used our tickets as a gift certificate instead. So, it worked out. Food was decent, nothing too special. There are not really any vegetarian options and very few seafood options.
Park in Downtown Disney for free 3 hour parking. Get your ticket validated for an extra 2 hours free.Listed in: Things to do in Orange County…

Came here for the "Simply Inspired" tour, which starred Natasha Bedingfield, and also had Kate Voegele and Andy Grammar in the lineup.
I had read on a Yelp review that you shouldn't park in their lot, as it's small and hard to get out of. So instead, I parked in the lot off La Cienega and Sunset. That day they were charging $12. Sure it's a bit pricey, but I had no problem getting parking or having to wait for valet to get my car (line was suuuuuppppeerrr long). Thanks Yelpers!
As the tickets said, the venue opened their doors right at 7:30pm. Outside, there was a food truck passing out small individual pan pizza sample slices. I didn't get a chance to try one, but nice touch.
I had called the venue the day before, since I brought my blind brother with me, to see if there were any special accommodations for the handicap. I was told on the phone that my brother would be placed on a list, though I would have to stand beside him, which was fine with me. When I got into the venue, I found a staffer and told them my brother was on a reserved list, and he escorted me to a small area filled with high wooden bar stools. I was allowed to sit beside my brother. Most of the concert there was a "bouncer" that kept people out of the reserved section... until the final performer came on, to which they suddenly disappeared. So when I took my brother to the restroom and came back, someone was in our seats. But we politely told them that those were our seats, and the lovely ladies left. Sorry ladies, I have a disabled sibling that needs that chair.
Inside was standing room only. Crowded. Sitting on the bottom floor, the AC was cold (at least on floor level)! Throughout the concert, people were chattering. I found that disruptive and somewhat rude. Did they not come to see the show? Though the audio sound system takes care of that by playing really loud... Should have brought earplugs.
That aside, I'm not sure if it's the singers and/or the venue, but the performers sounded great. Once my ears adjusted to the loudness, I enjoyed myself. Andy Grammar opened the show, running from 8:20-8:50pm. He performed a few songs solo, as well as with his band. Did some beatboxing too. After a short intermission, Kate Voegele also did a half hour set from 9:05-9:35pm. Never noticed how much of a country influence she had in her songs, though I will say that I don't keep up with any of these artists extensively. Then there was a long intermission... felt like forever. Natasha Bedingfield finally came on, performing for a whopping hour and a half (10:08-11:37pm).
A waitress would come along and ask for drinks. I ordered 2 sodas, which turned out to be $5 each. The cups were fairly large though, but still... $10 for sodas?!
I can't say I'd come back again. I prefer smaller venues with less people, or with proper seating arrangements. But I will say that I enjoyed the show, and as such, give it a 3 star rating. -

How shall I review a place as epic as the House of Blues?
Everything you've heard/thought about it: probably true. The good, the awesome, and the downright nasty. Same goes for their house rock band, Steel Panther, but I'll save that for another time. If you can't handle deaf-loud music no earplug could ever shield; girls dancing half-naked on stage (I'm talking bottom half, though there's plenty of top, too); or hearing everyone's conversation BUT the person screaming directly into your ear, you aren't ready for the House of Blues.
Personal highlight: meeting Dane Cook, then watching as he got on stage to sing "Sweet Child O' Mine", shirtless. Yeah, it was alright.Listed in: Strung-out on Sunset, Crowd Watching, Self-Loathing Tourist

So much fun and randomness.
It's a cool venue, lots of history.
Last spot that Tupac played before he got shot.
And it's got quite a few good shows.
Do Steel Panther on a Monday and you won't regret it. -

I love my music and I love it loud! I went with a group of friends here to see a concert and at that point I had never been to a House of Blues before other then the one at Downtown Disney. Lame, I know! I've been to both larger open air ampitheaters and smaller venues but took a particular fancy to this place. The whole venue is very open and it is easy to see the stage from any spot in the house. I particularly like the balcony up in the foundation room. Small note, get in early to any event by having dinner or ordering drinks upstairs.
Music was great, food was good and the lighting/acoustics was awesome. I might just have to return next time im in the area. -

I'm looking at my receipt right now which says $33.00 for the bar tab + tip, but my credit card account statement says $50.00 from this piece of BLAH place. This place sucks and everything is expensive. They didn't open up the patio area outside so I had to put my drink down next to the security guard just to get a breath of fresh air.
Valet parking is $15, large Stella is $12.00 and all hard liquor drinks are $9.00 (this isn't as bad as other places and depending on which bartender you get it's made strong.)
UPDATE: HOB charges you "$50.00" all the time, according to the lady on the administrative phone line because of....well no reason. They just do that and then charge you the regular price on whatever business day it goes through. This makes me uncomfortable which means I like this place a lot less. Charge us for what we paid for.
Also, when was the last time a band that I enjoyed played here? I can't remember so minus 2 stars for that. Last night was my first (and last) experience and I was only convinced because I got on the guest list to see a coworker's band play. -

This is probably one of my favorite music venues in the area. I have seen so many shows here it is ridiculous.. NOFX, Les Claypool, The Vandals, Social Distortion, Down, Ministry, Dark Star Orchestra, Blues Traveler, George Thorogood, the list goes on. I think this venue has a way better crowd than the one in Anaheim, that place just lacks energy all together.
The shows have always been excellent, a few times I could have gotten some ear plugs, but otherwise awesome. I prefer the smaller venues than the big ones. The energy is better and you get a better view on top of it! If you are a short person like I am, go up on the balcony and snag a spot against the railing if you can, the view is great... although be warned, it can get REALLY HOT up there!
The bathrooms.. these have to be the most spotless and cleanest I have ever seen at any concert venue. There is a restroom attendant inside there as well, which kinda surprised me the first time I strolled in there.
The food is kinda hit or miss, I usually only get a burger or something if I arrive to the venue early before a show. I have never had a bad one, but I never had anything that was like "OMG THAT WAS THE BEST EVER!" moment. The foundation room was pretty sweet looking and chill, but I personally felt out of place and well.. just not my thing, but nice all together. I had dinner there once for my birthday a long time ago and I wasn't crazy about the food but the service was excellent. Everyone in there gives A+ service. Lots of bars in the place, I guess if I liked to drink I would be into that, but from the looks of it, my friends had to dip into their wallets to get a buzz.
Security has always been cool for the most part, and I have had my fair share of safety nazi security guards at other venues. cough palladium/ventura cough. I haven't had much problems with valet, although 15$ does suck for parking. It can get a little crazy when everyone comes out from the show to get their cars, so you might wanna book out a few minutes early so you don't have to wait in the crowd for 30 min or more lol.. -

Great Venue. 3 bars on the main floor so your not waiting a long time to get a drink. Another bar Is on the third floor were the after hour partys happen, if you haven't been up there..I strongly recommend it..it has some of the best views of LA and the decor is really nice.

Customer service is a bitch here. Probably because its too crowded but we had a long table of 12 people and we had to scream our orders from the far end. Make a fucking effort to come to our side of the table and take the damn order!!!
I ordered a grilled ranch chicken sandwich on ciabatta(?) bread and it was so blah! Everything was dry! The bread was BURNT, the chicken OVERCOOKED, and the fries were less than the quality of a fast food joint. PATHETIC! 12 dollars for dry food.
1 star for the raspberry lemonade. That was good, or it may have been the fact that I was so thirsty from today...not sure. I will definitely not be eating here again. Ever. Ever. Ever.
