This is the place for bagels.  I found out about House of Bagels when I lived near the one on University Ave. in Paly.  When I moved to Santa Clara I was delighted to find there was one near me yet again!

Unfortunately I can't quite make them my go-to bagel place because the quality of the lox is not up to par.  It seems overly salty and mushy.

The bagels are so good that I'm thinking about buying smoked salmon from the grocery store and bringing my House of Bagel bagel home and making it there.

Tip:  buy your coffee next door at Barefoot -- no need to drink that carafe-warmed stuff when you can get a hand-poured cup nearby.

Quick, tasty, easy lunch! My coworkers and I came here today, and we were all so satisfied. The girl who makes the bagelwiches is a savo, she took our orders like nobody's business. And they were all fantastic (and correct, haha!).

We also got black & white cookies (these things are everywhere in NYC and I fell in love with them there), and they were lovely. Soft, spongy, sweet, amazing.

The only things I would change are the prices. My bagelwich was $5.50, and it's not like these things are huge. They're filling though! The cookies were $1.95 each, which also seems a little much but they're worth it. If the food wasn't good I wouldn't pay these prices, but it's great so I'll be back!

Came here on a Sunday morning around 10am looking to grab a light bite to eat with friends, and I was a little surprised to see how few bagels there were to choose from. There were many different types, but I guess they sell out quickly in the morning! I ordered an "all-in-one" bagel, which was their version of an everything, with chive cream cheese and it was delish.

Be forewarned that they prepare the "omelettes" for their breakfast sandwiches in the microwave...in a plastic tupperware-like container. Eek. I probably should have said something about this when I saw it...

Best bagels I've had on the west coast.  They actually boil and bake them for the crisp outside and soft inside.  It is a regional franchise with I think about 14 or so locations but you always get a consistently good bagel because the dough is shipped to them not made in house.  I know you would normally want it made fresh in house but I don't believe they would maintain the same quality and consistency.  Especially since many franchise owners are families trying to make back a huge investment and willing to cut corners anywhere they can.  This franchise is nice and small and still has good quality control on the bagels at least.  These bagels are great.

The egg sandwiches are okay.  Definetely satisfying and filling but microwaved in a plastic container and microwaved a little too much.  I became a microwave breakfast expert chef over the years from dorms to barracks to having the gas shut off at friends houses and they are overcooking the egg.  Another pet peeve is they dump all of the pepper in one huge clump instead of a sprinkle across the whole surface.  Distributing spices is done in a left to right motion, not jerking it furiously up and down.

I don't recommend the chicken or tuna salad.  Even though they don't mix in mayonaisse or mustard until you order it, sometimes you can still taste that it's been in the display to long.

Croissants are great.  They do sell out a little quicker than the bagels so you have to get there early for those.  They do two batches of bagels so you don't have to always show up early for selection.

Cream cheese is great.  Fresh whipped cream cheese with around five flavors to choose from.  Make sure you check the expiration date though because i've found expired containers in the cooler.  Also check that they haven't just changed the dates since I have seen two different workers do this on separate occasions.

Charging $1.25 for a can of Ice-Tea that says 99 cents on the can seems petty.

Come here for the bagels, cream cheese, and croissants and make your egg sandwich or otherwise at home.  They definetely deserve the four stars for the outstanding bagels and fresh whipped cream cheese.  Skip the poser freak show next door known as Barefoot Coffee.  They supply the sidewalk with annoyingly pretensious coffee snobs and dirty hippy f*cks.

We were here this morning. We go here because it's  close by our place. The food is decent nothing fancy or memorable. Service is quick. We ate here many many MANY times and not once have I been sick *knock on wood*.

I love the atmosphere of the cafe next door "Barefoot Coffee".

I always wanted to check this place out every time I stop at barefoot. I finally came here today because my sister wanted to treat us out for breakfast. I noticed the Asian lady running the place which gives me an idea that this deli is one of those donut/bagel place that is ran by a family. Anyway, the menu is great because there are pictures of the bagel sandwiches which is a total plus!

I ordered the bacon omellete garlic bagel sandwich was sooo freakin good! Even though the egg was microwaved with all the veggies inside, It still had a great taste to it LOL. MMM and the price is cheaper than Noah's!

If you get the same young punk at the counter that I got, beware! Not only does he get the order wrong, but he gives you attitude when you ask him to correct it. I didn't notice what he put on my bagel until it was too late. I had never been here so I thought maybe it was the right spread. I stick my finger in the cream cheese to check and it was wrong for sure! I take the bagel back to him explaining I had asked for something else, he shakes his head and gives me attitude. Then here is what prompted me to ask for my money back...

He scrapes off the cream cheese that I had already tasted and puts it back into the fresh cream cheese! No thanks, I'll just take my money and go somewhere else that doesn't recycle eaten foods!

This was a very mediocre breakfast bagel sandwich. I ordered a sesame seed bagel #0 which is sausage patty, egg, and cheese. The bagel itself was not the freshest.

It didn't blow my mind, but it wasn't awful and there isn't a breakfast place closer to my house that I know of (yet). I will probably try another sandwich next time.

    "I won't have what she's having."

I love how many reviews for this place also mention Barefoot Coffee Roasters next door (because it is awesome!). We stopped in because Barefoot doesn't serve food besides a small selection of pastries and chocolates.

I ordered a croissant for my 3-year-old and an egg salad bagel sandwich for myself. The minute I started looking around the place, I started thinking about the LA restaurant grading system and wishing that this place had a letter in the window. It wasn't too, too filthy, but the place felt cluttered and unkempt. The floor was a little dirty, with food bits scattered around the table my son picked to sit. We actually left with our lunch to go and ate it at Barefoot.

Had I inspected HOB a little closer before I ordered, I would not have ordered something so daring to my stomach as an egg salad bagel sandwich. But I tried it and it was... OK! I did take off most of the lettuce and tomatoes, just in case.

As far as service goes, one might think the employee talking on her phone would be a downside, but she was just as efficient and friendly the whole time she held that conversation. I was impressed how she kept on talking, phone on her shoulder, while making egg salad from scratch!

In a pinch, if it looks like they cleaned up, maybe we'll go back.

I go here at least twice a week for lunch and they really take care of me! I love going places that remember me and what i have ordered! Not to mention i've basically created my own weird bagel sandwich and they are happy to make it for me every time.

They also have a nice juice fridge with odwalla juices.

I get an open face bagel with chive cream cheese, lox, and cucumber - salt and pepper and some lime! The girl that works there is very attentive and sweet.

I usually get my bagel to go - but there is some seating inside.

Nice variety of bagels, good variety of sandwich options including served all day breakfast bagels with egg!  I went with the sausage, cheese, and eggs bagel.  I went at lunch so the bagel type selection was pretty thin but I managed to get a Jalapeno bagel with my sandwich.  End result?  Tasty!

Another small business operation here and the lady who took my order got a phone call and had to go so someone else came out to finish my sandwich.  He thought I had already paid so he just handed me my sandwich and thanked me!  He's lucky that I had brought my conscience with me that day as I told him that I had not paid yet.  Another great opp to gain some karma points!

Worth a return trip for the bagel sandwiches if I'm ever nearby or stopping at Barefoot next door.

    Solid 4 stars.
    Good service, quick.
Their bagels have the perfect NY bagel texture. Good selection of flavors, and they keep them stocked up so you have an option.

I have had the hamlet - breakfast sandwich -- pretty good.

And the veggie bagel -- excellent.

They have some pastries and a lot of drink options - even a few different brands of OJ...which I love with a morning bagel.

    I'll be back for more.

i've always wanted to try this place. Had the chance to do so last week with FY. The order was for the Croissant with Tuna. Not a good combo. Tuna is too wet for the very light and thin croissant.

But there's so much more to try from what I read on their board. So mental note: DO NOT ORDER THE TUNA CROISSANT.

I had the muffin. I matched that with a cafe mocha. That combo was perfect!

The place was clean. Scattered chairs and tables. The lone staff was polite and efficient.

Minus a star fro not having their own bathroom. instead you will be told to go next door to a coffee shop where there was a long wait.

Why no bathroom? No idea! Until then....

Being pregnant is not kind to bagel sandwich selection. But my friends were in the mood for a bagel lunch so who was I to say no. It's next door to the popular Barefoot Coffee Roasters which had a slightly hippie B.O. smell outside. Thankfully that faded away since the House of Bagels tables (that rhymes!) are outside. (It's a good thing since House of Bagels is pretty warm inside.)

If you're preggers you can't eat albacore tuna and if you want deli meat I'm supposed to have it steamed, lest you get listeria. I tell you, steamed meat is no treat - nothing makes a sandwich sound or taste worse than the words "steamed meat." So I went with the safe choice - the veggie bagel ($3.25), but still had to ask that it be sans the pregnancy-unfriendly sprouts. The bagel choices were really basic - I wish there were some flavors that excited me more. My veggie bagel included cream cheese spread (a little too much so I did a little surgery), cucumbers, tomatoes. It was good but nothing to write home about.

I also had a fruit salad ($3). The picture in the store included kiwi. Mine was the cheap fruit trilogy of grapes, watermelon, and honeydew melon. Overall everything was fine, especially for the $6.25 total lunch price.

Sitting outside we enjoyed some hipster dude outside Barefoot Roasters playing obscure songs my friends knew. They wanted to rent him out for their own personal game "Name that Tune."

Nice little unassuming bagel place in the strip mall with Bed Bath and Beyond and Barefoot Coffee - standard bagel varieties as expected.

What jumps out at you here (at 7:30am in the morning) are the:
    1) scrumptious buttery-looking humungous croissants in the glass case (regular and ham and cheese)
    2) random lunch sandwich stuff like smoked salmon in the glass case.

My asiago cheese bagel was pretty tasty but seemingly smaller than other bagel places and a bit expensive for $1.50.

Bottom line: Like the low-key and non-commercial feel of this place. I'd come here again to try those tempting looking croissants. 3.25 stars.

Contemplated whether to give it a 2 or 3 star rating...
Came here for breakfast, and while the bagel is somewhat small in diameter, there was no flavor in my bagelwich, my friend said the same thing.

For the money, I can't say it's totally worth it.  But the people who were there were really nice.

I feel hella fat from eating that bagelwich though...because there was a lot of grease and cheese inside.  I wouldn't have finished eating it if it weren't for my frugalness and overcoming hunger.
    Hella asian thinking, huh?
Anyway. I can make a better bagel at home.  I just spread cream cheese over mine, and I'm good to go.  It's pretty simple and delish too

I hardly eat bagels...really who needs the processed carbs when there's always an untried chocolatey dessert out there with my name on it ??? Gotta have your priorities!

However, when we do DO get a bagel, we make the trek to this particular House of Bagels. My husband is from the East Coast and he says something about how their bagels are more like the ones from the EC and he hates how Noah boils their bagels or steams them or whatever. Obviously, I don't pay much attention to the particulars.

HoB bagels taste...well like bagels...to me. I don't notice any particular fabulousness about them. What I DO like is their cream cheese options, lots of diff flavors (strawberry cream cheese yum), the fact that they have a lot of bagel options including wheat, the small little hole in the wall shop that is typically crowded, AND my fave...a fabulous smoked salmon bagel sandwich which comes with capers, onions, smoked salmon, cream cheese, yum. I get the wheat bagel and they have a light cream cheese which is a must for me.

They also have swift service, and the counter help is always really friendly...moreso than other fast-foodish places it seems. I think the min charge for cc's is $5 so be sure you have cash if you spend less than that. Their coffee is pretty darn good too actually.

Lastly, they also sell small containers of their cream cheese for to-go orders, which is great for when you don't have a horde of 20+ people to feed back at work...but it's just you, yourself and you. Eat up.

Stopped by early this morning for my bagel w/ cream cheese, cucumber, and tomato. They open at 6, so that's pretty convenient if you're in the area. While waiting, I noticed they sell "day old" bagels for $4 a dozen or $2 for 6. They also have some pretty big croissants.
Got my bagel and ate at the one table they have outside. Bagel was good.....my only complaint, and i HATE when food places do this, is the napkins are those cheap, one wipe and it's done napkins. Aside from that, it still would have been a three star review....but that's just annoying.

I was in the mood for a deli sandwich made on a croissant, and for the life of me, couldn't find a sandwich shop that wasn't Subway (gross), Quiznos (uttery ordinary) or Togos (good, but not what I wanted).  I guess these chains put all the small sandwich stores out of  business.

I tried going to the "hippie coffee place" Barefoot Coffee Roasters, thinking they may make a tasty sandwich (with sprouts) to go with the hippy coffee.  No such luck - only hippee coffee and hippee pastries! LOL!  (BTW, I am just kidding about the hippie thing - someone else mentioned it in their review and I thought it was funny.)

On my way back to my car, I noticed The House of Bagels, and decided that a bagel sandwich would be a good substitute.  I was happily surprized when I stepped in and saw beautiful-looking homemade croissants in their display case.  They make croissant sandwichs -  I got the Ham Club.  The croissant was awesome - crispy/crunchy on the top and soft and flaky inside.  The other sandwich "accoutrements" were good, not great.  They used romaine lettuce, which I hate in sandwiches.  The croissant really made the sandwich, which was exactly what I was looking for. The bagels looked good too, so I got a cheddar cheese bagel for my hubby, who is a cheddar cheese fanatic.  He said it was yummy.  The serivce was fast and friendly.  I want to go back and try the bagels and/or bagel sandwiches.  I think this is a good place for lunch if you are looking to get away from the "beaten path".

ce had the honor of escorting American Bodybuilding legend, and father to Mariska, Micky Hargitay. He was a really nice guy and when we came upon a group of weightlifters pressing some serious plate, I asked him what he thought of them.

    'Fair to middling' he replied.

That's exactly how I feel about House of Bagels.

The bagels are OK. Maybe a little chewier than I'd like, but they're good enough. The cost is actually really good, and the extras are OK at best. The problem is they obviously cut a lot of corners and don't seem to care. The service is really great. The folks working the counter are super friendly, and not Chili's pieces-of-flair friendly, but actually friendly.

This is an okay bagel place. My fiancee and I are on the search for the best bagel place around. We got there about 10 am on a Sunday and they only had about 5 different kinds of bagels left. The bagels are pretty small, as others have said. But, I got the veggie bagel and my fiancee got the roast beef. Both were decent. We got a few bagels to go along with their flavored cream cheese...both are just okay. The bagels are a little on the "too chewy" side.

    Very friendly staff.

A good bagel shop that's hardly ever busy.  I'm actually very fond of HoB's.  They have a stellar Everything Bagel, their garlic bagels are excellent...perfectly toasted, and I love their blueberry bagels when they're fresh.

They have a great variety of cream cheeses too!  My two favorites are their garlic herb and the garden vegetable.  Their Garden vegetable is probably one of the best veggie spreads around.

This location would be better if they made more of the bagels I like.  most of the time I get there too late and the selection has dwindled : (.

Try their breakfast bagel sandwiches too, they're delish!

The tastiest bageldog I've had was here, at this House of Bagels. Once I opted for the healthier bagel-sandwiches over my favorite fried/greasy bagels, and it was still delicious. I guess I really had no idea bagels could be made so creatively and even to replace the traditional boring sandwiches. Can't wait till the next time I'm going back to try something new on their menu !!

One of the best bagel in the Silicon Valley! Coming here in the morning gives you a good smell of the bagels which are all lined up in labeled baskets. I recommend the "All in one" bagel with just plain cream cheese and a cup of coffee. Very savoring especially in the morning and it would cost you approximately $3.00

House of Bagels makes the only "east coast" bagels around, and they are wonderful.  "East coast" means they are both baked and boiled, leading to a nice doughy inside with a chewy crust.  Best eaten when just cooked, or at most after a day or two (unless you bag and freeze them to keep them as close to fresh).

One of the few places to make jalapeño style - great with cooling cream cheese.  Traditional plain, egg, poppy, sesame, and salt are also favorite for us.  Good prices on lox portions as well.  Rounding things out are other treats like bagel dogs, knishes, and a good selection of sodas and juices.  Prices are to be expected for fresh-baked and are best when buying by the dozen.

On the one hand the bagels are authentic and at times still warm. On the other hand, can someone please tell this place that running out of bagels before 8:30 am is not good for business. This location is slow, inefficient and very inconsistent. If it was not right next to Barefoot Coffee I would never go
