I owe my life to these guys. Seriously. I was diagnosed with progressive hearing loss earlier this year - shock - as a musician, I rely on my hearing for my work/life/livelihood. My surgeon, Dr. Luxford, is awesome, fixed my hearing, and was so wonderfully precise with the surgery that I had little to none of the recovery symptoms that are commonly reported.

The only complaint, and this is a teeny tiny complaint, is that every time I go in for my scheduled hearing test/checkup it's kind of chaotic and I end up waiting a while, but I just figure it's extra time to sit and read whatever book I'm currently into.

So glad this place is in L.A.

There are 2 things in life you always want to get the best of - doctors and lawyers----

What's that you say? Speak up I can't hear you!

I said THERE ARE 2 THINGS IN LIFE YOU ALWAYS WANT TO GET THE BEST OF - DOCTORS AND LAWYERS.

And the House Institute my friend, has the best ear doctors.  Maybe in the world...?

There's no need for me to get into my medical history, and heck I went to them ages ago so I couldn't even tell you my doctors name. What I can tell you is go here for serious ear issues. Don't believe me? Then do your research.

I found this place because my doctor in New York (another top ENT man) told me to go here when I was visiting LA for some post-op checking. They really are world renowned.

If it's not an issue of money, then it shouldn't be an issue at all.  Don't go to your ENT at Cedars, he/she is not as smart as you think they are.  Go here.

When you strike up a conversation with the patient sitting across from you and find that they've traveled from Alaska of all places just for a mastoidectomy, you know the facility you're dealing with is something special.

"World reknown" doesn't really get across that the list of visiting medical residents literally spans the world - China, Turkey, Germany, among others. House Ear Institute is the de facto standard for auditory treatment.

I was born with holes in both my eardrums (hereditary....thanks, dad!) so I have never known the pleasure of diving underwater more than a couple feet (earplugs tend to not function under high pressure) and grew up in constant fear of the ear infection boogeyman.  Falling in the pool sans earplugs, or a misstep in the bath was a one-way ticket to a week of excruciating pain.

Back in 1998, I had my first tympanoplasty, which effectively made my left ear immune to ear infections. However, I wasn't a fan of the recovery and vowed that I'd never do that again.  Ten years later, after my 3rd right ear infection in 2 years, it occurred to me that I could make the pain STOP. With the memories of painful recovery long gone, I opted for my second tympanoplasty.

Here I am , 3 weeks after surgery, recovering nicely and with excellent post-op support. I'll know how everything went in another month.  But the experience itself with the Insitute was great. On the whole, they are very courteous, prompt, and the doctors (Dr. Luxford in 98, Dr. Friedman this time) were thorough and masters in their field.

Since the surgery/recovery itself took place in the hospital across the street, that will be saved for a different review, but House Ear Clinic is as good as it gets for the diagnosis and treatment of any ear-related ailments.
