One of Hotel Zico's Favorite Reviews What's This?
Long overdue revue. I first heard of this place from a sister who spent one of her anniversary getting lost in Palo Alto / Mountain View. She raved about this cute cheap getaway place so much that I had to try it...and try it i did. I'm sucker for "CHEAP" but cute is not at all what I expected. This place is very cute for the price. The bed was comfortable, not the hard springy feeling mattress either, it's the plush thick higher end mattresses. The rooms are clean although the metal decor cast iron decor on the wall will need updating, other than that it was good for the price. Spent less than 50 buck here for Valentines day wohoooo!!! On a most recent visit about a month ago, it was close to 90 bucks with our AAA discount, so you see the price scale can change depending on the season.

Wow.
I initially gave this property a 1-star rating based on my recent visit to Mountain View, CA. I was frustrated the entire time with choppy/no cell phone reception and poor wireless internet connectivity despite using 2-different wireless carriers and even a broadband pc-card. Because I needed to conduct work-related calls from my room and be connected to my company's servers, this experience spilled over to my overall impression of the property, which unfortunately was unjustified.
Within a day after posting my review on Yelp, I was contact by the property OWNER who wanted to do nothing but make things right and win my business back. She went above and beyond, going the extra mile to acknowledge and understand my frustrations, respond with a special hotel offer and performed due diligence in investigating the cell phone/internet connectivity issues I was experiencing. I am thoroughly impressed! This is what I call customer-focused, post-sales follow through.
Integrity and Customer First - thank you Hotel Zico.

I go down to the Bay Area for work a fair amount. I usually stay in the Hotel Avante in Mountain View, but they were all booked this trip. Hotel Zico is perfectly nice. The room is very comfortable, there's coffee, they have yoga dvds to check out. (I like that.) The breakfast is apparently great, but unfortunately I had to check out at 4 AM so I wouldn't know.
For me, the problem is that there isn't any food at all. Sometimes if I arrive late and I'm tired, I don't want to have to get in the car and go get something to eat. I'd be happy with a sandwich and a glass of wine.
Giving it three stars, because it is good value and I think it does what it does very well.
I've been schlepping around the peninsula over the week, while my new apartment opens up. This has given me an opportunity to see some of what's out there on the peninsula in the cheap-ish range.
This place rocks. Now, you're not getting a Marriott/Crown-Plaza-quality place, but you're not paying that, either. But for the money (between $65-$95/night) Hotel Zico smokes the competition. I enjoyed my stays here, and in fact I'm writing this review now while staying at the Red Roof In in Millbrae (another review for another day) and it made me realize how awesome Zico was in comparison.
Plusses:
1) Rooms accurately depicted in photos;
2) Beds are comfortable and quality (not cheap and springy like the typical bed in hotels in this price range);
3) good breakfast lounge and food. Actual eggs, bacon, cereal, juice, etc; not just a "continental" breakfast;
4) clean rooms;
5) Staff was nice, efficient;
6) clientèle also nice. Nothing redneck-ie :)
7) free wifi;
8) Has a bit of a 70s vibe with the decor. I liked it, though hotel-traditionalists may be meh on it. Think "understated version of Hotel Triton' near Chinatown in the City (for those of you who've been there, you'll know what I mean) to give you a general idea of the vibe;
Minuses:
1) You're near 85 and el camino so there's a bit of road noise. Didn't bother me at all, but for those that it might, you can turn on the fan (or AC or heat depending on the weather);
2) (this one's a bit of a stretch, but I want to be objective and include this) It's not a new building, probably late 70's/early-80s. The place is well-cared for, but I could hear someone walking around in the room above me a couple times.
Cute, boutique-y hotel in Mt. View, with a Grecian theme, wood slatted blinds, blue decor, and soft, squishy beds. The sinks were a nice surprise, as they are the round, above counter kind I marvel over. One comment my clever Zico adventurer had was the sink could be improved by an adjustable faucet. Breakfast is quite tasty, eggs, toast, Tazo teas, etc...
I was pleased!

Hmm. Don't know why this hotel only got 3 stars so far. I had families coming from Southern Cal. Since last time they stayed at American Inn, and did not like the bathrooms (supposedly smelly), I checked out a couple of places before deciding on Hotel Zico. Actually, I decided on Zico pretty much after I walked in. Love the ambience. Totally have the European Boutique feel. Quiet, too. Even though it's right by 85. Love the whole decor. Not to mentioned the price!!! I found the hotel on orbitz first, but they I booked the rooms on the hotel's own website. it's totally a bargain for what i paid for. Great breakfast, too. Great hospitality. This is my first review on yelp. Since I got such great value, can't resist to spread the word. If you have out-towners coming, this is the place.

I can not believe this place was not reviewed yet!!! Whoo hoo!!! FTR (eat your heart out, Walter P.) LOL
A very charming hotel!!! Mediterranean Style ! Close to a nearby freeway called Highway 85. If you click their website, note all the accomodations that this hotel provides.
Stayed here one time probably like 3 mos ago ...just for one nite coz my parents have some guests from the Philippines and they spent the nite at my parent's place. I didnt feel like going home(anyone who knows me know where I live) that nite so my family and I decided to stay here.
This place is charming and it almost reminded me of a Bed and Breakfast place because it's that small. The place is clean and the bed is comfortable. The person in the main desk was very nice and gave the history of the hotel and what it used to be. Dont ask me what info he gave coz I dont remember (i was a zombie that nite) and I just wanted to hit the bed ASAP.
We didnt get to try their compimentary hot breakfast (so dont bother asking me that either). Man, I just hope I can give you more info. Just make sure you click Useful and Cool ok??? Funny will be fine, too.
Thanks

Zico is a very nice hotel!!! I was especially entranced with the faucet in the bathroom which is a very interesting design. The hotel is nice and very clean, but can be slightly difficult to locate, as their sign isn't very large. It is right off of the 85 freeway. The linens were all clean and the rooms look like they were recently redecorated.
They have packages of Starbuck's coffee for use in the room. (yay!!!!) The morning breakfast buffet is typical hotel fare with cereals, toast, eggs, has browns, pancakes, sausage, bacon, OJ, Milk and coffee and an omelette station.
You pass by the hotel gym as you go in the entrace. The gym is spacious and has several cardio machines (stationary bike, treadmill) as well as a universal cable machine.
Zico is a great hotel for the business traveler. It's also within walking distance of an In-N-Out, for those who are craving Animal-Style Fries. It's about 10 minutes from Castro Street with a wider selection of restaurants.
It would've earned 5 stars if not for the fact that they lost my reservation and I was stuck with a room with 2 queen sized beds instead of a room with a king. I prefer a room with 1 king sized bed because there is usually a little more walking room. But the desk person was very friendly and apologized for losing my reservation. To those of you new to business travel, always print out and carry a copy of your reservation.

After looking at the pics and reading the reviews for Zico Hotel I decided to book a night for my Boo and I for V-Day and I have to say I was very excited about this place. I logged onto their website and found some good deals.
I checked in and the gentlemen who helped me had just started to work there but was very helpful. I asked him for a DVD player and he said they only had 2 and they had been checked out... (how could they only have 2). I thought ok, then I can just read and do homework until a DVD Player becomes available, which by the way never was available.
I walk into our room, the decore was cute, clean and yes the bathroom sink is sure something else. After a while I decided I wanted some more pillow... by this time it was another guy taking care of the front desk. The receptionist goes to look for pillows and says that he only found 2... one was flat out dirty and the other one didn't even have a case on it needless to say I did not take them.
Next I decide to iron my dress for my date with my Boo, I pull out the ironing board, stand it up, plug the iron in and I am just ironing away when the ironing board just falls... it co-lapsed. Thankfully my feet were not under it. Alright, it's V-day no need to get mad and frustrated.
My date and I went to dinner and for a few drinks and came back. I was starting to fall asleep and I can hear people walking on the second floor right above our room. And I mean I can hear people's footsteps. I tend to be a heavy sleeper but my Boo on the other hand is not. The next morning at 6AM I can hear all kinds of people walking right on the second floor. I called the front desk and complained, it turns out that housekeeping room was right on tops of us and I immediately asked to be switched with they quickly did.
Now, we were sent to the second floor to the room furthest from everything... however closer to the freeway, this was not an issue until the early morning when traffic began to get heavy. It was honestly pretty bad! I had to head back to SJ to the office that same morning. I jumped in the shower and I pulled the curtain and there was green stuff on it. Really... come on... go to the dollar store and get a new curtain. Oky, maybe I am just complaining but it was just too much! The only thing I can say it that bed was very conformable... the blankets were nice and warm and clean. I would not recommend this place unless you are oky with the floor above you cracking from people walking on the second floor
This hotel is okay for the price however it's on a really busy street and you will have some street noise. The location is safe and convenient, and the free breakfast in the morning is fine, nothing special though.
Their free wifi internet sucks though. I ended up having to borrow an ethernet cable from the front desk to plug into the in-room jack.
This is a very good hotel for business people in town for a meeting or conference, etc. I would not recommend it to impress out of town friends and family as the experience and locale is not that special.
This hotel is good looking building. The staff on the other hand, including the general manager have no idea how to run a hotel. I stayed there with several members of my family the night I got married. They over charged us by letting us pay for rooms that were already paid for. Then charging other people for rooms that we had already paid for. I had booked our room online weeks previous to us staying and had paid for it online. They then charged my husband for it the next morning unknown to me. When I tried to deal with the situation, I started of being polite but ended up being a bitch because the general manager drove me to it. Claiming to me that he was right and I was wrong and that he'd prove it to me. In the end I was prove right the money was eventually put back on to our credit card but not with out a fight. There was no apology either. Really not very nice people at all. Its also between the 101 and 280 freeways. Very noicey. I would never stay here again, not even if it was offered to me free. My advice GO STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.
