My first 3 nights in San Antonio were spent at the Marriott, but my last two were here.  What a difference!  The cool, modern ambiance combined with the friendly, attentive service make Hotel Valencia one of my favorite hotels ever. You're greeted by a beautiful water feature as you enter the lobby.  This sets a serene and sophisticated tone that the hotel maintains throughout.  My floor, the 3rd ,featured an interior courtyard with comfortable seating in a lush, quiet environment. It felt like a fine resort.  The rooms were well appointed, quality coffee service, a huge TV, good bathroom lighting, pleasant bedroom lighting, and a nice hygiene products.  I found the bed particularly comfortable and appreciated the variety of pillow types provided. The room decor reminded me of the W I stayed at in Manhattan, but the prices were so much better!  I paid around $160/night for what I think was one of the nicest hotels I've ever had.

The location appealed to me as well.  Directly on the Riverwalk, Valencia is walking distance from tourist destinations but not overrun by tourists. If you don't care to venture out, the restaurant downstairs offers a great breakfast buffet for about $12 (including excellent Italian coffee, various eggs, meats, fruits, french toast, and cold items). And the adjacent restaurant, Acenar, has a fun bar and great dining area as well.  I enjoyed my dinner there more than anywhere else I ate in San Antonio.

Should you find yourself in San Antone in need of a place to rest your head and refresh your spirit, I recommend you do so here.  You won't be disappointed.

Me and my husband were here on the labor day weekend, decided to just pamper ourselves and we were glad we went with Hotel Valencia. There are quite a few 4 diamond hotels available on the Riverwalk, however, I liked their decor the best compared with the others that tended to be more on the cheesy side.

Some of the attention to detail that is given, includes a card that welcomes you to the hotel, the concierge and every member of the staff asking you if you need help with anything (anytime we saw a member of the hotel staff, we were always greeted, and offered help), gorgeous decor, and overall romantic feel (dim lighting, and romantic atmosphere).

It was great for a us.! We'll definitely stay here again, next time we visit the Riverwalk.

My husband and I recently spent one night at Hotel Valencia while we celebrated our seven-year anniversary in San Antonio. Everything was perfect... this is not a snooty boutique hotel at all... the service was simply spectacular, warm and friendly... from the valet to check-in to concierge. And indeed, this is a gorgeous hotel. We especially loved the openness of the lobby, the sound of water from the fountain and the nice low lighting.

When we booked our reservations my husband alerted them that we were celebrating. They upgraded our room to a river view (we stayed in 820, which was lovely) and after returning from an hour-long hike of the new part of the river, there was a lovely Spanish cava on ice waiting for us, along with champagne glasses, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and a card that was signed by the hotel's staff and management. Such a nice touch! (And I do love me some cava...)

We had brunch at Citrus on Sunday before leaving town, and it was fantastic. I must say, I'm just really impressed with Hotel Valencia and guarantee you we'll be staying here again on our next trip to San Antonio.

This is supposed to be a 5 star hotel... and while the decor is nice, that's not enough to make it a 5star establishment in my opinion.  Why?

*  We paid upwards of $40 more per night for a room with a river view.  Though there was technically a sliver of river visible from our window, it was more like a room with a view of a roof and industrial buildings. That technicality cost us an extra $80 and is some major BS.
*  The hotel says it's on the riverwalk.  Also "technically true", but there is no riverwalk access from the hotel.
*  No balcony, nor even windows that opened was a drag
*  No pool was a major drag
*  Parking / valet is a b***h - the line is so long it backed traffic up for blocks and blocks along Houston Street.
*  Not too sure about their housekeeping... my friend went to put on a robe and there was something brown & crusty on the inside.  Revolting.

It was just generally not the best experience.  I vote with my dollars and they won't be seeing another dime from me.

I really like this hotel! For the price its unbeatable. We got the summer package and paid $130 a night for a king size spacious room. The bed was comfortable, the bathrooms were nice, and they have free wifi. Our room opened out to a pretty courtyard with waterfalls... gotta love that.

The hotel is very stylish and has the boutique thing going on. With our package we also got two complimentary cocktails, score!

The bathroom toiletries were nice too, except the shower gel smelled like cologne. I took it with me anyways, but still...

Another thing that is prevalent all though out San Antonio is that most restaurants close at 10pm, lame! And the hotels restaurant was no exception, they closed at 10 on the dot on a Thursday night. Sheesh...

The best place about this is the V-bar!  Very stylish for a hotel bar.

Modern decor with speciality cocktails - the bartenders are very nice (dependent on the customer they can be chatty or chill).  The lobby lounge area is nice.  They also have a courtyard patio with a fire pit that quite charming.

Next door they have Sip Coffee & Expresso Bar for REAL caffeine pick me up!

I would definitely stay here again if I ever go back to San Antonio.
The location is great, right near an entrance to the Riverwalk, and walking distance to a lot, including all the good "touristy" stuff.
A more modern boutique hotel, the staff is extremely helpful, especially when we needed a taxi at 5 in the morning!
The hotel is dimly lit, which only bothered me in our room. I need some light when I'm packing, people! Oh, and both my boyfriend and I smacked out shins on the footboard of the bedframe. Which I thinks speaks a little to both the dim lighting and our clumsiness...but either way, a little more light would have done me right.
The Valencia has free wifi, which I found to be a bit slow, but it got the job done.
Request a river view room. You'll pay a little more, but you won't be disappointed.

Looking for a modern romantic mini vacation? If you're ever in the San Antonio area and plan to visit the River Walk, I highly recommend this place.

If you are military, ask for military rates!  If you want a good view you may have to pay for the higher priced rooms...

The entire hotel is dimly lit so heads up there! The beds were comfortable; room was clean and had a very modern manly design to it. I say manly, because of the leather chair and headboard.

If you want to self-park, the parking lot is 1 block away from the building, so drop your bags at the front of the hotel, if at all possible then park.

The Hotel is very close to the Alamo.  The River Walk is right there!

I have to complement the waiter who served us he was very attentive! Dinner was great (we had buffet that night).

My only complaint would be when I called the receptionist to ask for a late check out, (12pm is the latest) the receptionist said "Ok" then hung up! I'm willing to look that over and give them a five star... But if anyone from the hotel is reading this... please tell your receptionist to say "thank you"! Customer service is so key in this market and you guys are doing a great job so far!

Great place to lounge, drink, eat and just chill.

I had a very unusual stay at this hotel and frankly not sure i would return.

First, it tires to be way too hip for its own good. And let's be honest, San Antonio is not all that. Anyway, i was put off by the attitude of the front desk when checking in. The woman behind the counter barely looked me in the eye and mumbled directions to my room.

Once I got to my room i unpacked and hit the shower. Smallish bathroom but nice overall..but when i wa in the bathroom room service came in with dinner on a cart. Problem was, i didn't order room service. And worse is that they came in while i was in the shower. really freaked me out a bit. but the worse was yet to come....i got out of the shower and told the guy i didnt order room service. since i was in a compromising situation, i didnt come out of the bathroom but told him to leave. and as he was rolling the cart back out, it got stuck between the door to the shower and the closet. so now he has to call someone to help and im stuck in the bathroom wiht my clothes off. about 30 mins later they got it unstuck and i was out.

Later that night after cruising the riverwalk area, i made my way back to the hotel and stumbled into that inner courtyard to chekc it out. except when i walked in and looked over to one of the dark corners, there was a couple having sex against the wall. ok so yeah, i was jealous but still.

went back to my room to go to sleep and this is the one moment that moved my review to 3 stars from 2. the beds. they are awesome. it was extremely comfortable and enveloped me in warmth. and i wasnt disturbed until the sun poked through the blinds mid morning.

Five stars for the Hotel Valencia Riverwalk.

We came here last weekend for a quick getaway weekend. This hotel is gorgeous and I highly recommend it if you're ever in the downtown San Antonio area. It's very modern, but not like those crazy novelty boutique hotels that are made completely out of steel or ice or something (Google it. I swear I'm not making that up.) The citrus motif carries throughout the hotel. Super comfy bed complete with a down comforter and a million pillows. All the members of the staff are very helpful and nice. FYI: valet parking costs $27. Seriously. You read that correctly. In my opinion, it's worth it. Parking in that area blows.

This review wouldn't be complete without a mention about the hotel bar. It's badass. It stays open until 2 a.m. on weekends and there's a DJ. It's very "ulta lounge-ish."

Hotel Valencia Riverwalk gets my seal of approval for my fellow Yelpers!

Came here upon a friend's suggestion for a romantic weekend of just me and my bf. First of all, it's a beautiful hotel: modern but with a touch of days gone by. The interiors are dark with warm dim lighting, lending it that chic feeling, too. Sometimes, I wish it were bright in the day, at least. The room was breathtaking, very plush and posh with nice interiors and a modern-looking bathroom. The valets were helpful in directing us to a nearby parking garage as we refused to pay $29 a day for parking with the hotel.  The courtyard was closed our entire stay for a function, so that was a bit disappointing. Also a letdown was their slow room service: we ordered cookies and milk and extra toiletries and it took them the better part of an hour to get back to us. The price is a bit much, even as it's a beautiful hotel; I would in the future prefer a more affordable hotel that even as it wouldn't have as many of the posh add-ons would still have clean accommodations and good service.

So I do alot of work in San Antonio and I have to say I love this hotel. I also stay at the one in San Jose on Santa Row. Though, its a hard thing to say which one I like better. Granted this lays on the line of between ghetto and really classy area of Downtown San Antonio. I also believe there is a homeless shelter around 2 blocks down so its hard to say its the most safest area. Though, who cares! This place rocks! Great decorations inside and awesome hallways.. but what really matters is the room! The room was awesome and very comfortable and I love the FULL length mirror in the room. The service was awesome and every one was really friendly. I ordered over 200 dollars of room service and it was 1st class! Dont ask me why but I was hungry and didnt want to leave the most comfortable hotel bed ive ever been. To bad I was alone! :) So if you are looking to spend some money in a good hotel and let loose. Or even to impress!! I would recommend this place!! Also has a great cafe and bar attached to it! so be sure to check those out!

Although I have never stayed at the Valencia ... I have been to several events at this hotel. The hotel is very modern with a warm feel (loads of reds and golds) The wedding area is beautiful especially when they have the water/fire going. The reception area is ok. I didn't care for the way the set up was- they separate everyone (but its really a restaurant, so family style isn't the usual set up).
The only truly negative thing I can say is about the Valet area. The guys working there seem to be in their own world. One time, we called down for the call 30 mins before and when we got there ... they did nothing. We still had to wait another 30 mins for them to bring the car around. (thank goodness for the heat lamps)
The other time I've been, the valet did their usual thing ... we gave out ticket for the car and I guess he forgot about us. We were the last ones there and he said ... "oh" and reached into his pocket ... there was our ticket .... guess he forgot about us. :/

(the way I did the star was because of the valet and what I've seen from a wedding and christmas party ... again, I have never stayed here)

Although, we enjoyed our stay here. I'm disappointed that after I left my iPhone charger in the room, we called twice and were told the head of housekeeping would get back with us and they never did. I'm not sure if it's a communication issue or what but it's unacceptable. I don't care if they couldn't find it, I still would've appreciated a phone call letting me know.

Do you know anyone with a great house that is not maintained well? That's the best way to describe this hotel. Decent location (a solid walk to the bars and restaraunts), modern interior fixtures and a cool building  - none of which is maintained well. The paint is chipped everywhere, things are dusty and a lobby that is quickly overwhelmed. I should note that I was here during an incredibly busy weekend, Fiesta. Given that, I would have expected it to be at its peak service levels. Would I stay here again. Yeah. Would I try other places - absolutely.

I've got the best administrative assistant in the entire office.  Case in point: she put me up in the Four Seasons in Vancouver, BC on my very first trip and I've not stayed in any other hotel ever since then each time I go for a visit.  She also got me to choose Virgin Atlantic Upper Class in favor of United First going to London - and traded sour-faced United flight attendants with smiling VA flight attendants who were willing, no, eager, to give you free massage / manicure on board.

Anyway....

Not knowing anything about San Antonio and being given 24-hour notice to go didn't leave me with much time to ponder upon hotel choices.  So it just goes without saying that Hotel Valencia is one of her brilliant suggestions (which I made sure was properly documented in her performance review).

While I have long been skeptical about elegantly decorated hotel lobbies (due to the disparity between lobbies and the rooms - take Caribe Royale in Orlando for example), I was duly impressed by Hotel Valencia's.  I was even more impressed when I found myself in a room with a little inward-facing balcony overlooking an indoor patio, cal-king bed, and minimalist decor.

I didn't even complain about having to go straight back to my hotel room after work to catch up on the pile of work that never seemed to get any shorter.

I'm not sure if I am the only one that thinks that room service is overly expensive - you get charged a premium for the food, plus you have to pay a fixed percentage of 'service fee' and *then* you get screwed for a second time for the tip - and poorly prepared - a lot of time and effort is spent on the preparation instead of food quality.  Often times in other hotels I found my food cold when it's not supposed to (e.g a rubbery fried crumbed calamari), and warm when it's not supposed to (e.g an unrecognizable mound of supposedly vanilla bean ice-cream).

But in Hotel Valencia, even the room service was great - and that's coming from a room service hater.

Another little observation: VBar, like its Santana Row counterpart, seems to be *the* place to see and be seen.  On Thursday night, the place was bustling with people dressed to the nines, making me feel like a Den Lille Pige med Svovlstikkerne (The Little Match Girl character from HC Andersen).

My excuse? 24-hour notice did not give me adequate time to prepare for a night out during a business trip.

Swanky hotel on the Riverwalk.

Love the shutters on the windows, which do a good job of keeping light out.

The toiletries are 'Lather' - fantastic!

There was a super comfy leather chair with ottoman in each of the rooms I stayed in.

My main complaint is there was some fur-like throw on the bed.  I found it pretty creepy, and so every night I'd take it off the bed and move to the closet or behind the chair or some 'away' place, to make it obvious it didn't just fall off the bed during the night.  And every morning, housekeeping would put it back on the bed.

My stay here was amazing!  It was my first trip to San Antonio and other than the outcome of the Alamo Bowl everything was spectacular.  The Valencia is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at.  I'd put it up there with the Ritz.  The rooms were large, with the extremely comfortable beds.  The service was also top notch.  This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, unfortunately I went here with my mom.

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel on hotwire for a romantic weekend. Our first impression was great - the hotel is beautiful, and our room had been upgraded to a king with a balcony overlooking the courtyard. The first surprise came the next day when I checked my bank account balance. My card had been charged $294...much more than the $150 hold for incidentals that there should have been. When I called the front desk, I was told that this was due to a "routing error" and that the money would be credited on Monday, the next business day. Well, on Monday, after checking out, I checked my account balance only to find an additional charge for $104. The only hotel service we had used was room service (one time).  When I called to find out where the charge had come from, I was told it was from the mini-bar which we absolutely did not partake of. Unfortunately, I used a debit card for incidentals (lesson learned), so now I essentially have $400 tied up in my checking account as though I had spent it. It's too bad that our romantic weekend has to be followed by phone calls to accounting trying to sort out the bill. In short, not worth it.

Snuck away to this small, stylish boutique hotel this weekend and couldn't have been happier with it.

The decor is very modern with lots of stone, dark wood, and dim lighting.  Ultra-hip, but still manages to be comfortable.  Several common areas where you can relax, including a fantastic, intimate courtyard complete with flaming waterfall and cozy chairs.

We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we had drinks at the stylish bar which became a place to see and be seen the Saturday night we were there.  There's an outdoor balcony with mini-fire pits next to small tables where you can manage to have a conversation if the thumping dance floor isn't your bag (though they have that covered, as well).

The room itself was superb.  Large, clean, elegantly simple like the rest of the hotel with an emphasis on comfort and lighting.  Every fixture is on a full dimmer, so you can certainly create whatever mood you're after.  Tivoli radios, plush robes, high end toiletries, dark wood blinds revealing the courtyard view below... (some rooms have river views and balconies).

Service was impeccable.  They didn't flinch when we requested a later check-out Sunday morning, the concierge did everything he could to find a late brunch for us, and room service was friendly and prompt.

The only negative I've seen in other reviews referred to the expensive valet parking.  We found garage parking a block away for only $7.50/day.

We'll definitely be back at this hotel the next time we're in San Antonio.

My best friend and I stayed here the week of her wedding.

I love the look and feel of this place, the leather chairs, the warm colors, it's got style with out trying too hard at it.  The staff is efficient and pleasant. The V Bar was interesting and I loved the ballbearing curtain, it just begged to be messed with.

And, AND the bathrooms are stocked with Lather products, truly, life doesn't get much better than that.

Next time I'm in San Antonio I will definately be staying here.

PLEASE . . .I just want one more night to stay at the Valencia Hotel!  OK . . . how about a week?!?  I did not want to leave!  I doubt I will ever stay at any other hotel in San Antonio now that I have experienced Valencia.  It was a little bit of New York style nestled on the Riverwalk.

At check-in I was helped by the assistant manager.  He was extremely polite and even remembered that I had called earlier that morning.  He told me all about the amenities available in the hotel and told me to call or stop by if I needed anything at all.  We were really lucky to get a room there.  Some basketball events were taking place in the city and the nicer hotels, including Valencia, ended up being completely sold out.

This was probably the most masculine hotel I've ever booked.  The interior is dimly lit so even on bright and sunny days, it was dark and moody inside.  The rooms are decorated with dark wood shelving and furniture.  Blocky, dark leather chairs were stationed by the windows.  The closet and bathroom doors were frosted glass which gave you privacy and nuanced lighting.  Practically all of the lights were on dimmers which I loved.  Heavy, dark-wood shutters lined the windows so we could get as much or as little of the great downtown view as we wanted.  They also blocked practically all of the light when closed which was great for those mornings when we wanted to sleep in.  There was also a large wood-trimmed floor mirror which I found useful when getting dressed.  Despite all of the dark wood and leather, the overall look was very clean and modern.  The beds were extremely comfortable and the sheets and pillows were high quality. It seems like a silly point to make, but there were at least 8 plugs within easy access which only made me remember that  it is usually a problem everywhere else I stay.

The common areas were all very nice.  V Bar, the hotel's bar/lounge, was comfortable and well-appointed.  It attracted a large and energetic crowd at night.  The entry area with its waterfall and the courtyard with its roaring fire made for a welcoming and soothing environment.  The Riverwalk was literally at our back door while street shopping and bar-hopping was at the front.

I will admit that I am a total hotel snob and require a little pampering when I am out of town.  This hotel did not disappoint me for a single second.  I will now be looking for reasons to make the 3.5-hour drive to San Antonio so I have an excuse to stay at The Valencia again.

didn't have a real problem with this hotel at all...

arrived a lil before 4pm to check in and they didn't have the room ready yet so i waited around but the lady running the desk made sure i was comfortable.  for the inconvenience she offered to get me a drink at the bar and even upgraded me to a riverwalk view room!

some positives bout the hotel... free internet... free printing... friendly service... even told me where to park cheap overnite instead of just telling me i should valet!

when i needed a bottle opener they were very quick to bring me up one to the room and the front desk even called to make sure someone did arrive to give me one...

the rooms and the entire hotel was very modern looking...

some negatives...

their restaurants close at 9pm which sucks...

its located at the edge of the riverwalk area... meaning if u walk a lil bit farther away you hit a really shady part of the downtown area... this area is quieter than the rest of the touristy area... also the entire hotel including the rooms is a lot darker than most hotels... the outside of the hotel doesn't look as impressive as it shows in the picture but once you're inside u feel like you are in a very trendy hotel!

overall i would totally stay there again!

Although it was a quick business trip, I enjoyed the hotel.  It's a great location on the Riverwalk in walking distance to lots of great restuarants. The rooms are large and nicely appointed.  The dark chocolate decor and plantation shutters to keep out the light are a haven to tired travelers in need of recharging.  A trendy selection in a state where bigger is better that doesn't shy away from using cattle horn accessories...

My wife and I stayed here to celebrate out anniversary. I surprised her with it and she was very pleased. We stayed in a room with a balcony over the courtyard, which I highly recommend. Next time we will stay on the river side.

Stayed here over a weekend. This hotel has a terrific location, but I am not sure about the claim of being a four-star hotel. I've stayed at four-star hotels that are much more service oriented. Service-wise I do not see much difference between the Valencia and a typical Holiday Inn.

modern hotel, dimly lit but rooms are large and affordable.  staff went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and allowed me to check in early.  didn't get a chance to check out the other hotel amenities.  bed was large but not as comfortable as other hotels.  view from my balcony wasn't great but you're right on the river walk.  will definitely stay here next time i'm in san antonio.
