20 reviews for Hotel Teatro
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
When I found out that I would be staying at the Hotel Teatro in Denver, Colorado, I decided to do something that has become the norm when I book a hotel - I snooped around online to see what other travelers thought of the place. Well talk about an overachiever, this downtown destination is just racking up the awards and receiving rave reviews from the likes of:
TripAdvisor (Top 10 best pet-friendly hotels)
Travel + Leisure (Top 50 large city hotels in the US & Canada)
Conde Nast Traveler (One of North America's "Gold List" hotels for 2008).
So after reading all of the accolades online, it was time for yours truly to check into one of the Mile High City's premiere boutique hotels. Upon entering the Hotel Teatro, I was greeted by a friendly doorman who insist on taking my bags. I kindly declined, like I always do, because I simply prefer to carry my own bags.
Upon entering the cute lobby hallway, there are two elevators directly in front of you, a restaurant to the right and check-in to your left. I was early this day and had to wait 20 or so minutes before my room was ready. No problem, as I was in no rush and now able to wander around the main floor of the hotel.
Okay time to check out my room! Before going upstairs, the front desk informs me on how to use the room's specially made key. Yes at the Hotel Teatro you will not find the usual electronic key card that most of us travelers have come to know and love.
Don't worry the key is extremely easy to use. Simply place the key into the keyhole, push in and turn left. Wait for a beep and then "ta-da", the door will open and you will be oh so happy.
Upon entering my room I was greeted by a miniature sculpture of what appeared to be an elephant (sorry not an artsy guy). A quick stroll to the left found me in the perfectly sized room. I had a great work desk, a couch, some end tables, a huge comfy looking bed and best of all a big ol' flat-screen television. But this was not just any flat-screen, this was an HD flat-screen!
As someone that travels quite often, I have been amazed and disappointed at just how many hotels provide lovely LCD and Plasma TVs, yet they do not hook it up with high definition. So Teatro got some extra points for providing yours truly with that crystal clear screen that I have become used to viewing at home.
After a long day of airport hopping, I was a worn out and extremely tired nomad. So I kicked off my shoes and hopped into my bed, which was a soft and luxurious 15 Simmons Beverly Hills Black Edition, complete with 600 thread count custom handcrafted sheets. So comfy...tempted to sleep...but I move on to check out the bathroom.
Besides the usual features that come along with all hotel bathrooms - you know a working toilet, sink with running water and plenty of soaps - Teatro offered up something that I personally love...the rain forest shower head! Nothing is better than hopping into a shower and turning on a downpour of water.
Some of the amenities at Hotel Teatro include:
* Thirsty? Then enjoy some complimentary in-room coffee or tea.
* Aveda bath essentials are abundant in the bathroom.
* The mini television in the bathroom solves the issue of deciding whether to bathe or watch General Hospital.
* Don't feel like hanging out in the rain forest? Then soak in Teatro's over sized bathtub.
* iHome docking station so you can wake up on time or just simply rock out in your room.
* 24-hour in room dining.
* Complimentary daily newspaper delivered to your room (I went with the NY Times).
* All guests have free access to Hotel Teatro's fully renovated fitness center.
* Safe available at the front desk.
* Complimentary high-speed wireless internet throughout the hotel and a business center.
* This "pet-friendly" hotel should actually be called a "dog-friendly" hotel. Teatro will accommodate Lassy or Fido, but will not allow kitty to sleep over. What's up with that?
* Valet parking is available at $13 for the day & $26 overnight.
* Check-in is at 3pm and check-out is at noon.
Centrally located to everything that makes Denver so special, Hotel Teatro is truly something special. How close are you to some of the top attractions?
Well for starters, when I peaked out the window of my fourth floor room, I had an up close view of the Denver Center for Performing Arts across the street.
Hotel Teatro is a 25-minute drive from Denver International Airport and a four-minute drive or 14-minute walk from Denver's Amtrak Union Station.
If you take a stroll up 14th street and turn right onto Blake street, you will find yourself outside of Coors Field, home to Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies.
So next time you find yourself in colorful Colorado's most popular city of Denver, be sure to check out the Hotel Teatro. Definitely worthy of all the attention it has been receiving.
Yes.
You will spend some $ to stay here, but it is so worth it. Want to sit by the fire in the lobby and have a nightcap after partying all night? No problem. Cheese plate to go with that? Sure. Exquisite room? Check. Incredible, but invisible service? Yup. Not to mention the Escalade that can whisk you wherever. Totally awesome.
Imagine, if you will, a gal coming from a sunny socal morning to a 40-degree afternoon in Denver. Also, imagine this girl didn't sleep much the night before. Oh, and imagine that her purse is a mess and she can't find the right credit card anywhere.
Got that picture in your head? Now, in contrast, picture in your mind all that is kind and good and fantastic in the world - and there you have Patience, the most aptly named, saintly front desk staff I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. Patience begins checking me in as a frazzled me is digging through my purse and cursing myself for not bringing an appropriate sweater.
She notices all of this is quite understanding, and then asks what I though was an odd question - "Would you like a bath? I know you're stressed, so we'll comp it." As I wonder if I can slyly do the "sniff-your-own-armpits" move, I ask "What do you mean?" She anwers, "Oh, an aromatherapy bath, just call when you get to your room and we'll get it all set up for you."
Fabulous. Check into the room. It's fabulous as well. And the water is free, which is unheard of at hotels. The bed is amongst the best I've ever slept in, and the bathroom has the most amazing bathtub. That's when there's a knock on the door, and I was expecting someone to deliver a packet of bath salts...but what was waiting for me was a gentleman with a tray full of oils and powders and such. Whoa, whoa, whoa...just what did I sign up for here?
Turns out I get to pick which aromatherapy scents please my senses, and I head back to play on my laptop while I have a bath drawn for me. It was fabulous. I mean...who has baths drawn for them? Victorian aristocrats and me, that's who. It's fabulous.
Once he's all done, he even set the light in the bathroom to an appropriately soothing dimness. I tipped the fine young man, sent him on his way, and settled in for the best welcome a hotel has ever offered to a guest. I don't recall how much the list price was on that...but I'm sooo paying for it next time I'm in town.
You know I love the theater, but that's not the reason I love Hotel Teatro. It IS the reason that I couldn't help writing this self-indulgent review. My apologies in advance.
"The Producers" at Hotel Teatro have seen to every detail and truly understand "The Importance of Being Earnest."
When you feel like a "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" and life has turned you into "Les Miserable," it will all slip away once they come to your room and draw you a bath. "The Sound of Music" will gently waft from your iPod in the iDock provided.
While you're "Waiting for Gadot," enjoy a cocktail in the hotel bar. Since you know Gadot's never going to show up, no one will blame you for leaving with the "The Man of La Mancha."
If you're trying to get to "42nd Street," you'll need a cab (you won't find "A Streetcar Named Desire"), but for restaurants and bars near the hotel, car service is provided. You're in Denver, but Hotel Teatro rivals the boutique hotels you'd find in bigger cities like....you saw this coming...."Chicago."
This is the very model of a modern historic hotel. I couldn't think of another way to work in "Pirates of Penzance." From reading this review, you'd think that they left a tray of cheese in the room, but it was "Chocolat." Yes, I know it's not a play. Yet.
"Guys and Dolls" will love staying at Hotel Teatro before heading back to the Denver Airport where it's "Bye, Bye Birdie." (You'd have to read the prev review of the Denver Airport to get that tasteless joke. If you belong to PETA, you will not laugh.)
Hotel Teatro was absolutely charming. A lovely, big room that kept the building's original historical feel while providing some nice upgrades, including both a bed and a tub that were a dream to sink into.
My room was generally nice and quiet, even though I wasn't far from the elevator. The décor was plain, but classic - with a peaceful neutral palate. The only odd thing was that there was no latch on the shower door, and the thing, modern and fancy as it looked, kept opening into the shower while I was in there.
Service was great - from check-in through my departure. I needed some ice -- late-night -- and they were happy to bring me a bucket of the stuff. The hotel also provides a car service, which is quite handy. I didn't even realize that they had it until the last day, but it made my trip to my in-town destination on that last day a breeze. A friendly breeze!
In my normal travel haste of "where the heck did I pack that?!" I left the bathroom counter scattered with my glasses, accessories, make-up and various products. I returned to find them all arranged neatly - almost artfully - on a washcloth, with a curled-up (flower-style) washcloth in the middle. Whomever did this obviously takes pride in their work!
The photos of various theatrical productions in the halls were a nice touch - I just found myself (or maybe it was my inner museum gal) wishing that some of them had captions or tags explaining more of the history and background of each photo. It would have made for interesting waiting-for-the-elevator reading!
Incredible, just incredible.
It wasn't so much the room, or great location, or the bathroom that was the size of the rest of the room, or the complimentary water & chocolates -- but all of the little things combined that make this place great.
A recent Saturday was the ladyfriend's birthday. Hotel Teatro was to be our final stop for the evening. It had received rave reviews on Yelp, and they were also giving a discount to Yelpers. Not one to pass up perfect timing, I booked as soon as I read about it, and could not have been more pleased.
The concierge contacted me by phone about a week prior to our stay to see if there was anything extra she could help me with, theater tickets or an in-room massage, to help make the ladyfriend's birthday more special. I had already arranged a massage earlier in the day for her, and didn't really need anything else -- but the thought and effort by the concierge was what mattered.
I checked into the hotel in the afternoon (the ladyfriend was at a massage) and the front desk attendant was polite, friendly, and seemed genuinely happy that we would be staying there. She also informed me of a complimentary room upgrade which was wonderful!
I went up to the room, which was a touch small, but very cute and perfectly set up. The bathroom was quite large with a great tub, and a beautiful shower. On a little table in the room was a note addressed to me, but was a thank you for choosing HT, and a happy birthday wish to the ladyfriend. It happened to be tucked under a small dish with a single flower, and three filled chocolates. Despite the temptation, I figured I should leave them for the ladyfriend.
Later that night, after our stomachs could take no more adult beverages, and our legs had danced their last dance and legs had stepped their last step, we cabbed back to Hotel Teatro. It was a complete surprise, and she loved it -- which is really why this place gets 5 stars, because the ladyfriend enjoyed it. From the chocolates, to the note, to a room upgrade, HT came up huge where it counts -- in the little things department. Everyone I spoke to was friendly, polite, and seemed happy that we were there.
They helped me make her birthday just a little bit more special, and exceeded all of my expectations. I cannot recommend this place enough. They were all wonderful, and the room was great.
Now I just need to find an excuse to stay here again!
In town for just a couple of nights, I was excited to stay at Hotel Teatro...
and I'm happy to report it exceeded my expectations!
Friendly door men, desk staff, and concierge - I felt welcome from the moment I arrived. Once inside my room, I found a handwritten note from the concierge along with a beautiful plate of chocolates. Even more exciting was the hot shower I took after I checked in. Hot water, great water pressure, and Aveda products - now that's what I'm talkin' bout! I could've stayed in there for hours!
I kind of wished I had more time at Hotel Teatro - my bed was comfy and I slept like a baby both nights. The Wifi was shotty, but luckily I had a Verizon card as backup, so I was able to use the internet from my room no problem...
I used the gym - it has a precor machine, two treadmills, and a stationary bike plus some free weights - just enough to get the job done. The hotel (and the gym) are kept immaculately clean.
Great location too... that Larimer Street has some great shops and cafes. I can't wait to return to Denver to stay at Hotel Teatro again soon!
I judge my hotels by 2 things: the bed and the gym. My recent trip to Denver was so short (less than 24 hours) that I didn't get to check out their gym (next time), but the bed sure was comfortable. The Hotel Teatro has much more to offer than a comfy bed though...it just wouldn't be fair if I didn't mention the following:
* fabulous service: Jim, the manager, was especially helpful in arranging for me to take the super shuttle to the airport
* gorgeous bathroom: I'm in the process of redoing my master bathroom in my condo and I could only dream of having a bathroom this nice. The rain shower was especially fabulous. Oh, and the Aveda products are a nice touch as well. I'm jealous of my favorite eyeliner that now has a found a new home in the Hotel Teatro's bathroom since I accidently left it behind.
* elegant lobby: So pretty I almost didn't want to mess up the couches by sitting on them while enjoying my complimentary apple
They give you fancy keys (instead of just the cards) to open the doors of your room. Kind of cool, but not so cool when you realize you've forgotten to return it and will be charged. Fortunately, the guy driving my super shuttle was nice enough to return the key for me. Like I said, fabulous service...
It's a fine line, this hotel business: you want your hotel to feel like home away from home, but with creature comforts that make it transcend the ordinary. There are some very nice places around that, let's face it, try too hard to get there and feel a little like sleeping in a museum. And that's not always a good thing: just ask Ben Stiller.
At any rate, it was the absence of that kind of pretense that made my stay at the Teatro so memorable. Don't get me wrong, it bears its share of luxurious underpinnings; the rain showerhead and deep side-slung bathtub in the restroom, the oversized yet surprisingly soft pillows that gave way to much needed rest, the thick curtains that blot out the sunlight when you want to sleep in. It was a comfy room, and I deeply enjoyed my stay. The staff here was friendly and engaging without waxing pushy, and that's always a major bonus. Thanks for putting a great first face on Denver for me, Teatro. Can't wait to renew our friendship.
Does anyone know of a good interior designer? Perhaps one good enough to turn my apartment into an exact replica of the Hotel Teatro? Maybe? I'll wait for all of your helpful PMs.
This hotel is swank with a capital S! If you are looking for a classy, comfortable, relaxing hotel in a hoppin' area of Denver, look no further. As Sandi D yelped before, check in was super easy and fast. They even give you a choice between which newspaper you would like at your door every morning--the local Denver paper, USA Today or the New York Times. Hooray for the NY Times!
The lobby is elegant without being stuffy and the hotel bar (which, sadly, I didn't get to visit) sits to the right of the entrance. Hallways are clean and silent, and the rooms are very chic. I closed the door behind me, set my bags down and proceeded to do the happy dance. All the necessities are there but with a slight extra flair. The closet space includes a small chest of drawers, a comfortable couch sits in front of a glass coffee table next to a super comfy bed, a flat screen pulls out to either direction, and a large desk with plug ins for your computer is next to the bed. There is also a large dressing area with a huge mirror. Then there is the bathroom. I'm going to need another paragraph for this one...
I actually giggled when I opened the door to the bathroom. A large solid sink welcomed me with enough space to lay out all of my beauty junk. I actually didn't need most of my bath products because the wonderful staff keeps your room stocked with Aveda products. Love it! The shower is not just any shower. It involves both a hose shower head and a RAIN shower. Don't feel like standing up? How about soaking in a huuuge tub? I'm not talking your standard sized bath tub, or even an oval-shaped tub. This one is long and wide. You could actually swim in it... and I did! There is a TV and a waterproof remote control just in case you need to check your stocks while reading the Times and drinking your coffee in a huge bubble bath. This is what I'm talkin' about!
The only thing that was a bit unpleasant was the construction noise that happened in the early morning across the way. (Their neighbors are building condos.) I'm sure you could request a room on the other side of the building though and be fine.)
Check out took about 2 minutes max! Zippitty do da! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Denver.
5 STARS -- From me? Yes, The Teatro is about as good as it gets.
Checked in for one of the those -- gotta get out of my crazy teenager's house ( if you have teenagers, you know, it's no longer your house).
Check in: Easy as pie-- Upgraded without being asked. Wow
Suite: Absolutely stunning. Was upgraded to a Jr Suite, not the best in the house, but great for our needs.
The bathroom is what made Teatro 5 stars. Granite everything, flat screen, jetted huge soaking tub, shower for 2 with multiple shower heads. AVEDA products !!!!!
Even came with an option to have a professionally drawn tub. For $25 you can have the bath of your dreams, rose petals and aromatherapy.
I cheaped out, and just requested extra Aveda bath salts, and made my own concoction with some bath oil I bought at the Body Shoppe.
The bed itself was reminiscent of a cloud. Soft and comfy. Sitting area well thought out, with a work station attached to the wall opposite the bed. The room was Wifi, and there was a printer hidden under the counter. Just terrific !!
Normally we would go outside the hotel for dinner, but Kevin Taylor had not 1 but 2 restaurants here, so what's another couple of bucks..right?
I'll review the restaurant separately, but for those going to another restaurant, take the free Denali wherever you want to go. I had a girl's lunch the next day, with a bit of shopping, and my driver was terrific. He dropped me on Broadway, and picked me up somewhere completely different. Just call the number and provided you're within a 5 or so mile radius, your ride is there is 10 minutes.
Checkout -- Just as easy as check in .
Money Saving Tip: Call the hotel directly, and tell them you're a local. They'll give you a discount.
Stayed for two nights. Would definitely stay again. Very good service and nice rooms. Also have a car service that will take or pick you up within 2 miles. Paid $179 a night.
Even though I spent less than 12 hours in my room, Hotel Teatro gets a 5-star Yelp rating in my book. The room was on the small side, but very well-appointed, cozy, with a bigger than average bathroom. The bed was comfortable, and even though I kept waking up, it was more due to nerves for a big presentation I had coming up that day. Another bonus in my book was an excellent room service menu, particularly for breakfast. I wanted to sample a little bit of everything! Definitely stay here if you're coming to Denver and want to avoid the big chains.
At the recommendation of a friend of mine, whose firm puts up all their swanky clients here, my parents stayed at Hotel Teatro over Thanksgiving of last year. Super awesome, in every sense.
The only downside was that they messed up the reservations a bit, which was a little irksome as my Mom had confirmed just a week or so earlier, but the staff was apologetic about it and so on. I think my parents had to switch rooms after the first night - but they didn't care, so no big deal. They RAVED about the room service, btw.
As a bonus, we saw Don Cheadle in the lobby. And, as a second bonus, one of the supercute valets had hit on me at a concert in Boulder a few months earlier. I don't think he remembered, but it did make for some spazzes (aka frantically applied lipgloss) on my part.
My boyfriend at the time (who is now my dear husband) took me to this fantastic hotel for an evening on the first birthday of mine that we spent together. Good for me, but bad for him because now he has to try and come up with ways to make the following birthdays as great as that one. This hotel is so incredible, it will make you fall in love.
This hotel was top notch in every way...from service, to luxuriously appointed rooms, and the best part...the bathrooms. I seriously wanted to pull that shower out of the wall and bring it home with me. Our room was large with an extremely comfortable bed and huge bathroom. The concierge got us reservations at a steakhouse and then the hotel's driver took us to dinner in their complimentary car service. Oh, how I long for those good times!
To top it off, after our evening out on the town, we were told that the bar stayed open late for a "special" guest. So, we decided to get drinks to take up to our room but as we turned, it was Ellen DeGeneres getting into the elevator. Ellen was the special guest and we benefited with a late night drink - Thanks, Ellen!
I had friends in over the weekend and they brought their 2 huge dogs. Not only did Teatro welcome these beasts, they treated them like royality! Really took the burden of me having the house the family. I thought it was a beautiful place, nice staff and my friends were blown away at the service. I will always recommend them to everyone.
I've stayed at a number of different hotels before, whether on road trip with my girlfriend or on business trips, but I can honestly say that this was the most beautiful, comfortable, and well-served hotel I've ever stayed at.
From the outside, the hotel doesn't look all that spectacular. It's a small, red brick building on a corner street in downtown Denver. But when you first walk into your hotel room, you'll notice how elegantly laid out the room is. My room (a single queen bed room) had a beautiful buddha head statue carved out of stone to my left. To my right was the bathroom, tiled with stone, and with a clear glass shower room with the shower head hanging from the ceiling to give it that raining effect. There was also a neat little bathtub lined against the wall. The sink top was made out of a beautiful marble and had great quality toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, facial soap, liquid soap, and a number of other things). The room itself also had a nice, comfortable sofa, a glass coffee table, free internet connection (both wireless or with the cord), a printer, fax machine, two telephones, and a alarm clock that was playing jazz music when I walked in :). Believe it or not, the bottled water they have in the room was also complimentary as well (most places charge $7.00 or more if you drink out of the bottle)!
Other than the room itself, the food downstairs was great. Me and my coworker had breakfast there twice and I can highly recommend the Tuaca with Eggs French Toast.
The hotel is conveniently situated right in the heart of downtown Denver, within 3 minutes walking distance of the 16th Street Mall. If you're visiting and are willing to pay a little bit more for a nicer hotel ($180 for the room I stayed at), don't hesitate with the Hotel Teatro!
I have not stayed here myself, but had a friend who stayed in this boutique hotel, so I went to visit. The room was smallish, but very quaint and adorable, with SUPER baths. The restaurant is, of course, great.......Kevin Taylor. What we were really surprised with was the staff. Amazing. They were so nice and accomodating, and the car service is unlike any I've ever seen. I think perhaps I'll spoil myself like Claudia G and have a weekend for myself(or a special someone!!!) and stay in bed all weekend, order roomservice, drink wine and champagne, and be fabulous.
holy shit! this is one of my favorite hotels of all time.
i've dropped $300 (including the fee to house your car in their garage) on their suites when i have wanted to throw myself a weekend pity party, have a debaucherous evening, or have the best sleep i ever had in denver. i stayed there SEVERAL times during my 3 1/2 year stint in denver.
facts: the exercise room has granny smith apples, they have the MOST comfortable beds ever, i've made out with someone's boyfriend in the ladies bathroom on the first floor, i once danced on top of one of the conference tables, kissed a grand slam poet in one of the service elevators, the terry robes are pure luxury, and i've nicked quite a few things from there while drunk! some of the BEST memories of my time in the mile high city were at this gorgeous hotel. oh, almost forgot: amazing bar.
p.s. it also happens to be one of johnny weir's favorite hotels (god, i love him!)
This hotel is legit. Super swank. Super classy. This is how hotels should be.
