3 reviews for Hotel Shilla Resort & Spa
I went hiking with my super hot wife in Joshua Tree last spring
We wanted to see the wildflowers blooming. (that's always nice)
Then we cruised around desert hot springs and settled on Hotel Shilla because it looked silly. There is this fake grotto / cave look to it.
But you know it was not too bad. It was as fairly priced as any of the hotels around there, and we had our own private mineral bath jacuzzi in our room.
If you want to pretend your a 70's porn sheik and relax with your special lady friend , than this place will work just fine. There was not too many guests. A few dirty swingers, a runaway, a possible serial killer, a homewrecker, and a freemason. We had breakfast there in the dinner , which took a little too long, but it was cool since we chatted with the locals.

Korean-family vacation hell.
Unsupervised children running and swimming everywhere in cave theme / faux Italian decor hotel with relatively small kitchens (in the kitchen units).
Bar on second floor called The Tryst Pub
Empty, 2 bar boxes, weird music (not in a cool experimental way..just weird).

Some friends and I were going to a hip hop show in San Bernandino and then rock climbing in Joshua Tree the next morning, so I needed to find a place where we could just crash for the night. Since we wouldn't be checking in until after midnight, the amenities didn't matter much. Our room was $109 and had two queen size beds. I'd read plenty of awful reviews about this place, but wasn't really concerned because all we needed was a warm bed.
The room was clean and looked much better than I expected. The decor wasn't as cheesy as most hotels. The beds were super comfortable. We got the room with the mountain view, which also offered us our own balcony, so we opened the sliding balcony doors for fresh air. There was a switch for air conditioning and heating, but it didn't seem to work. The weather that weekend was great though, so we didn't need the air conditioning.
This is not a place that I would go to relax while on vacation, but if you just need a place while on your way somewhere, it will do.
They have a pool and several jacuzzis and what are supposed to be mineral hot springs, but the only thing that actually had water in it was the pool. Although the hotel claims to have mineral hot springs, this is a lie. They actually use heated tap water.
There are several articles in the local Desert Hot Springs newspapers (http://www.desertlocal...) regarding the false claims on their mineral hot springs, employee credit card fraud, lack of city tax payments, and employee complaints: not paid overtime, not paid on time, didn't get W2s or got inaccurate W2s, discriminated against because of weight and nationality.
I read all of this after booking the hotel and if I'd known about this, I would not have stayed here. I cannot support a business that mistreats it's employees and doesn't pay them!
This is the reason for one star. Otherwise, they would have received three stars.
Please note this hotel was formerly known as La Toscana Resort & Spa.
