Review from Jonny C.
I love Kimpton Hotels. I really do.
The rooms are huge, especially for DC. The Rouge takes the Kimpton motto of "take a theme, and then exaggerate it" to new heights. The theme here, you guessed it, red.
Red on the doors, the halls, the beds, the common areas. But in a cool way, not in an oppressive war mongering, Mars aggressive kind of way.
Great service, a hip bar with attractive clientele and a location close to the hits of DC, including the perfect distance to the Washington Convention Center- you can walk it, but you are far enough away that you feel the hear beat of DC- not just the convention and Verizon center sprawl.
The Rouge embodies the Kimpton style: sexy and chic but comfortable and friendly.

This hotel was awesome! I love the 1960's funky complementary leopard and zebra print robes, red walls, and tiger print carpet. Honestly, my favorite niche was the welcome chalkboard at the entrance of the hotel that said "Welcome Kaylee and Kourey" for my two dogs. Below it had little doggie treats and a water bowl. How fick'n cute?! (I posted a picture)
The room was spacious and in a contemporary style, the little lounge/bar was again 60's mod, and made you feel like you might see Jefferson Airplane walk by. It was very reasonably priced, conveniently located, and a lot of fun.Listed in: Poochie Paradise, Fabulous and Funky Hotels

My stay at Hotel Rouge was great.
I'm pretty sure check in isn't supposed to be until 3:00 or something like that but I showed up at the hotel at 9am on my arrival date and not only was there free coffee, but they checked me in right away and my room was available, which was perfect since I was in desperate need of a nap.
Like all Kimptons, the decor at the Rouge is exaggerated and amazing. The Rouge, if you couldn't guess from the name, is all red, plus there's a 60s contemporary/mod style going on in the rooms. The usual animal print robes can be found in the closets (I just love this about Kimpton) and the usual wine happy hour takes place from 5-6pm each day.
Specifically about the Hotel Rouge: The rooms were clean and pretty spacious... they were showing a bit of wear, but that didn't affect my stay at all. The people at the front desk were BEYOND helpful for me... they helped me and my friend find a restaurant for dinner, called to make reservations for us, the whole nine yards. Also, the day we were leaving, my friend's car was broken into and they helped her patch up the window, consoled her, etc. after I had to leave for the airport. On Sunday morning they had a free "morning after" bar, featuring Bloody Marys and pizza, which hit the spot. And the hotel is in a good location of DC, in walking distance of many great Dupont spots and just a block or two away from convenient stores/fast food/etc.
I definitely recommend a stay here. Kimpton is a great chain and the Hotel Rouge certainly did not disappoint.Comment from Abraham L. of Hotel Rouge 2/6/2012

I love all the red. Being deaf I like visual things. Hotel Rouge is great. I been to many Kimpton Hotels. This one is very nice. The bar - you really can't call it a restaurant - is the only really dissapointing thing about this hotel. They aren't open for lunch, the menu is very limited, and the waiter/bartender not very good.
Like all Kimpton's I've been to, they have free happy hour from 5pm to 6pm every day. They had hot toddies this time year that were nice and tasty.Comment from Abraham L. of Hotel Rouge 1/6/2012

Not everyone gets Hotel Rouge. People who are surprised that a hotel named "Rogue" would have red in its color scheme or thinks a primary criterion for a hotel is that they should have vending machines should stay at a 1-star Corporate chain - Hotel Rogue is over your head.
Anyone who is willing to have some fun will have a blast here. The rooms are huge and stylish, the beds are amazingly comfortable, everything is very classy and a full sensory experience. They have the best hotel restaurant/bar I have ever been. My wife and I did not want to leave. The staff is amazing, reflective of the Kimpton attitude of service and sophistication. I have stayed in hotels that charge twice the price and they don't do as well as Hotel Rogue in making your stay fun and comfortable. The location is perfect - blocks from the White House and all of downtown.
Here is an example of how Kimpton understands travelers. On the work desk is a power strip that has six available outlets, two for large plugs. No searching for an outlet to plug in your computer and devices, no crawling on the floor figuring out which lamp to unplug to get some power. Both sides of the bed have extra outlets also. Hotel Rouge puts that kind of consideration into everything they do. I will always stay here whenever I am back to D.C.Comment from Abraham L. of Hotel Rouge 1/13/2012

I love the unique, colorful and moderness of a Kimpton Hotel. Rouge is exactly what you'd expect. Red. And lots of it. I even got free valet parking for the red car that I was driving. Location is great. Rooms are large. Staff is friendly. Wine service at 5'ish. Just a fun place to be.

Yeah, the walls are red. Yes, there is a zebra or leopard print robe in your closet. Sure, thing are a bit of kilter. Come on...
it is a Kimpton. it is a boutique hotel. If you want something more ordinary... something you can take your mother to, I'm sure there is a Marriott around here somewhere.
Maybe it is b/c I am a Kimpton regular, but when I walked in the front door, I knew I landed at a place I could call home for a few days. The rooms are stylish. The hotel is well located.
to address the others:
- The airco works fine. I have airco control in my room.
- The lift is slow, but there are other things in life to worry about.
- It IS red. The Palomar is white. The Topaz is blue. Get over it. If this matters, there is another hotel near buy happy to provide you a homogeneous experience for more $$.
- Valet is expensive, but not as expensive as others near by this DC locale. Parking in a major city is NEVER cheap. Want $10 valet? Stay home and pay your kid to park your car.
-My wine was a malbec.
- The person who complained about $6 tv.. Really? A city of FREE museums and you complain about paying for TV. I have SO MANY snide comments to make, but your comments speak for themselves. And, btw, I was able to watch tv for free. Perhaps this is one of those "you must be 10% smarter than equipment you use" instances.

Cool hotel - I love the red, but for some reason, walking down the hall on the 8th floor, I got the REDRUM feeling from the Shining. My room was huge - looked like these places could have been an old apartment building? Staff was very nice and I loved the leopard print robe! The bed was comfortable. I would stay here again. I walked to the White House - quite far if you are not fit though.

Review from Raul N.
Heading to the East Coast for a business trip, I consulted with friends who regularly travel to DC for work to find a place to stay. Both recommended staying at the Topaz in Dupont Circle. Searching the internets, I realized the Topaz was a little out of my price range for this trip, but as luck would have it, the Hotel Rouge, another Kimpton hotel, was just a few blocks away did fit into my budget. I booked my room on http://Hotels.com for $140 per night--a steal compared to the rates listed on the Hotel Rouge's website, honestly.
I figured with such a discount, my room would be pretty small, but I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in--it was huge! I swear, that room was easily larger than my bedroom AND guest room back home. There was a large king-sized bed, chairs, desk, ottoman and coffee table--quite luxurious, actually. The bathroom was pretty spacious and very clean too.
The room was also full of character, something I appreciate in hotel rooms. The room was full of red--red curtains, red bedspread, red chairs. I loved the vintage prints and fixtures, like the old, orange refrigerator. And I was certainly amused by the zebra-print robe and leopard-print unmentionables for sale in the room. And while I didn't partake, I appreciated the complimentary wine and hors d'oeuvres at the guest happy hour in the early evening.
The hotel was in a quiet neighborhood, but close to a lot of popular restaurants in both Dupont and Logan circles. The Metro stop (Dupont Circle) was a short 5-minute walk away, so the location was very convenient.
The only downside I could find to the room was it was next to the elevator and the housekeeping closet--but neither were especially noisy or bothersome. Actually, I think staying right next to the housekeeping closet kept my room extra clean.
The staff at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming. I was greeted with a smile when I checked in and got some helpful tips for a good dinner spot close to the hotel. They were so helpful booking a driver to get me to the airport when I checked out, and even called me to offer cheaper alternatives to help me choose.
With such spacious, clean rooms and friendly host staff, I'll definitely be back to the Hotel Rouge next time I'm in DC.Comment from Abraham L. of Hotel Rouge 1/14/2012

A great, cool-looking hotel that sort of looks like a chic bordello. The staff was very friendly and the room was very spacious (king size bed). Lots of light from outside but inside the room the lighting was not great quality.
The only complaints are that housekeeping never cleaned our room; we came back one night and nothing had been made up. Also, the hotel is a little bit of a walk to the nearest Metro (Dupont Circle), but the walk from the Metro to the hotel is a nice one.Comment from Abraham L. of Hotel Rouge 1/13/2012

Yet another great spot by the Kimpton group.................
I remember when this place first opened years ago. The hotel bar, like all the Kimpton group hotel bars used to really have a great scene.
Not the biggest bar, so it always had this intimate feel. Nowadays, the bar is usually a lot emptier, even on weekends, but still remains a good place to get a sip.
Recently got to see the accommodations after a couple of friends had their wedding afterparty at Rouge. Just as I expected, the rooms were stylishly done, comfortable and well maintained.
What's even better about the hotel is that even though it's on a major thoroughfare like 16th street in DC, it still feels tucked away and cozy. it's right at that sweet spot before you get to the cramped residential streets, Ust and Adams Morgan, and just above bustling downtown. The actual block it's on feels like a ghost town most nights but I like that myself.....
So for a nice getaway or a peaceful sip in a stylish hotel bar, i'd recommend highly.....Comment from Abraham L. of Hotel Rouge 1/12/2012

I wrote the below poor review a few weeks ago due to disappointment in not being able to get a hold of anyone at Hotel Rouge.
Since then, I have met and spoken with Mark, Kate, and Kathleen. While we clearly got off to a rocky start due to the initial difficulty, I've been impressed since speaking with the team at Rouge. I'm inclined to believe the early part was a fluke.
The Rouge team has been extremely informative. They helped us think through what aspects of the wedding they could help with, gave us a tour of the building, and have been quite flexible with us. Honestly, they've exceeded expectations and have gone above and beyond when compared to the other hotel we were considering.
We will be working with Rouge to get a hotel block for our wedding guests. We are likely going to work with them for our rehearsal dinner, wedding after party, and sunday brunch as well.
-------------------------------------------------- ----------------------
I am SO disappointed in Hotel Rouge. I am generally a fan of Kimpton (and appreciate their gay friendly stand), but they've completely let me down. I tried to contact them for information about my wedding both via telephone and email. We have received absolutely no acknowledgment or response. When we finally call and speak to someone, they refer us to reservations and contact group reservations. Whoever the group reservations folks are are worthless. It has been weeks of just trying to speak to someone, get basic information, etc... no response.
In all honesty, we were extremely excited about the possibility of working with Rouge. At this point, extremely disappointed at their complete lack of service and response. I'm bummed I didn't even get a chance to get info from Rouge about a room block for guests ... But why bother if they can't take the time to even return a phone call or email.Comment from Abraham L. of Hotel Rouge 1/10/2012

Review from Zaree G.
Washington, DC
I had a really negative experience here, and I honestly can't believe this place is a four star hotel. The only positive thing about this establishment is the quality of their bedding and towels, and that was only in the second room we went to.
My mom booked this hotel on priceline, and we usually have a really good experience in all of the hotels we book on that site. When we walked into Hotel Rouge, my first impression was that they were aiming for trendy, but they got cheap and tacky. The walls were bright red, and the rugs in the hallways resembled some sort of animal print. Seriously? If hotels are going to decorate like this, they need to do it well. There is a fine line between trendy and tacky if you are using prints like these.
When we went to check in, the receptionist told us we had a king suite. We asked for two beds, and she said "let me see what I can do for you." She then gave us two keys, and told us where the room was. We proceeded to wait about 10 minutes for one of the two tiny elevators to arrive, and when we got to our room, we found only one queen bed, and it was covered in stains. The stains were a really odd color and left me thinking they could have been all sorts of gross bodily fluids from prior guests. We immediately called the front desk, who told us to come downstairs, where they would sort all of this out. They said they would go out of their way to provide us with a king suite (which is what they said we had when we came in). We went upstairs to check it out.
This room was clean, at least. The bathrooms left something to be desired, and the room was full with cheap, tacky decor, including pictures that were tilted, ugly lamps, and two giant TVs that were about 8 feet apart. I was trying to imagine a situation in which two people would watch TV at the same time, 8 feet apart from each other. I couldn't believe that this was their suite.
The closets had the ugliest, tackiest animal print robes and pajamas. I honestly think people have worn the robes multiple times and placed them back in the closet. I felt like I needed to take a shower after just walking around the room. I went to turn on the TV, and discovered that they had about 10 channels, less than I have with basic cable at my house. At this hotel, you have to buy TV shows, to the tune of $6 a pop. I know movies are typically expensive at hotels, but now we have to buy TV shows, as well? This is supposed to be classy?
In fact, the general trend at this place is that they do not provide anything, they charge you for everything. There are no vending machines if you want to buy water or a snack, you absolutely must buy from their shitty minibar. Room service was an absolute joke. They messed up the order, and charged $8 for coffee. The eggs tasted rubber. There was no bacon or english muffin like we checked off on the stupid little form, and they entire thing cost $35. Want to use the internet in the business center to print your boarding pass? Expect to shell out cash for 15 minutes of use.
I seriously hope at least one person reads this review and reconsiders going to this hotel, and I also hope someone from management reads it and gets in touch with me so I can ask them what genius thought those robes would actually be a good idea. You have GOT to be kidding me.Comment from Allan B. of Hotel Rouge 11/16/2010

:: nice bath amenities

:: free wireless!
:: very comfortable bed and bedding. i loooved my king size bed!
The Bad:
:: bar drinks are expensive
:: the bloody mary and pizza that is complementary on weekends? it's not exactly bloody marys. it's the bloody mary MIX. no booze. :( boooo. i was super excited to get my hands on some free bloody marys but nope. if you want to add booze they can but it costs money. boooooo! the cold pizza was fine but they didn't provide plates. we used cocktail napkins as makeshift plates.

Not a bad hotel by any standards, but by far the least desireable of the Kimpton DC properties. While Kimpton has refreshed it to their affordable botique standards, the hotel shows more wear than Helix, Madera, Palomar, and their other local properties. Given it's confines, Rouge has a quiet happy hour and it's lounge is disappointing.
If intuition isn't your friend, RED is the theme here and the walls may leave you begging for Advil. That or maybe it's the headache from all that cabernet they gave me since it's the only wine option availalbe...Comment from Abraham L. of Hotel Rouge 1/14/2012

Old place, made up into a new place in a pretty good way, but still over priced. Staff is good. Location is great.

One of Kimpton's finest! I love this hotel -- it's funky, the service is impeccable... they have sleep number beds!
I especially dig the dressers -- which look like converted ice boxes. When I asked where I could buy one, they couldn't tell me right away, but the concierge did some research and emailed me about a week later. I thought that was fabulous (even though the $5K price tag on a dresser was not).

From the outside it looks like just another government building. But step inside and this is a government building allright, and it houses the Department of Congressional Bordello because of its ample use of red. Priced drop-dead cheap from Expedia, the place exceeds the price I paid for it. My room was a swank top floor suite rouged to the T. The furnishings are designer trendy without getting dated like the round ottoman, and the two high-back empire chairs. The bed was huge (though not Tempurpedic), but it's the six fluffy hump-worthy pillows that tides you over until the next sight-seeing tour.
The location is behind the White House, about a 5 minute walk away. It's close to all of DC better neighborhoods such as Dupont Circle, Logan Circle, and Downtown. The bathrooms are a bit small, and the shower pressure weak, but all in all, a good value.Comment from Allan B. of Hotel Rouge 11/16/2010

This is the perfect choice for a cheap hotel in DC. It seems to cater to people just like me-- young (20's-30's), quirky types who don't have loads of cash to drop. Our room, with a king size bed, was only $99 a night!
The place borders on totally tacky/ kitschy, but somehow it works. They take the red theme pretty far, with red lighting in the elevators, red furniture and drapes in the rooms, and red wine served at happy hour. You know what, I really didn't mind. I mean, what other hotel gives you free red wine from 5-6 weekdays, and free cold pizza and bloody mary's from 11-12 on weekends? It was a pleasant surprise, to say the least.
The staff also turned out to be very sweet and helpful. They held our bags for us for like 6 hours after we'd checked out, which was amazing! And then after I'd returned to Boston, I realized I'd left my phone charger in the room, so they FedExed it to me.
It's about a 10 minute walk to Dupont Circle, which offers restaurants and shopping, and things like that. It's also a longer but convenient walk to down to the White House in one direction, or up to Adams Morgan (a super fun neighborhood, packed with bars and yummy food) in another.
I will definitely be back, and would recommend this spot to anyone who needs an inexpensive place to lay your head in DC.
PS. I almost forgot to mention: Leopard print bathrobes in every room?!?!?! -

I should preface this by saying I am normally not very picky about hotels and I am more than content staying in a holiday inn express. At least in the holiday inn you are guaranteed to have a strong shower, a sink that drains, and a curved shower rod so the diseased plastic curtain isn't sticking to you every 5 seconds. Also, try not to breath through your nose when you first turn on the sink at the Rouge because it smells like a sewer pipe has been opened for the first 5-10 seconds.
They call it a "hip hotel" but other than the red lighting and deco lamps in the room, it is nothing of the sort. Hip, to me, is a flat screen tv not a 20" CRT box. (can't you get LCD's in those 25 cent machines in front of the supermarket nowadays?) OK, maybe a flat screen is not necessary, but waiting 15 minutes to order breakfast every morning is not very hip.
You walk into the "restaurant" for breakfast and there are empty tables, no servers, no menus and just a small table with help yourself coffee. I walked back to the reception and asked them again where breakfast is and they pointed back to that room. So I served myself a coffee and sat down on one of the terribly uncomfortable (but hip) seats and waited about 15 minutes until a waitress appeared from a back room, walked behind the bar, and then dissapeared again. A couple minutes later she appeared again and I had to stand up and chase after her to ask if a menu exists. She brought the menu and of course the most basic breakfast meal, oatmeal, is not available. I should've walked down the street to the econolodge, holiday inn or motel 8 where oatmeal is free and guaranteed to be there (and the room is a fraction of the price).
I should also mention that I was staying in a "suite" when I had all these issues. I put it in quotes because instead of the room being bigger or nicer it just had another small room attached, with two armchairs and a side table facing an empty wall. Unless you are hiring a stripper, magician, or puppet show I can't see any reason for this room's existence.
One more "hip" thing is the noise of breaking glass to help put you to sleep. I stayed from Monday to Thursday and every night from about 10pm to 2am they are dumping garbage cans full of glass bottles into a dumpster right behind the hotel. Most of the hotel's rooms face this side and you can imagine how horrible the noise is. However, it is pleasant compared to the sound of the garbage truck picking up the dumpster filled with glass that woke me up every morning... Where is all the glass coming from? The hotel itself.
I can say without a doubt that whoever gave this place any stars must have been bribed. This was my first time in DC and this hotel did not help to make a good impression for the city... -

Man, do I love this hotel.
I prefer boutique hotels to the large chains, because you tend to get better service and a unique experience... and this is definitely unique!
Very cool styled rooms, extremely comfortable beds and an INSANELY well priced mini bar. When beers are cheaper in a minibar than they are in a bar, I'm very impressed.
Hotel was very clean as well.
In order to drag you down before check out, they offer cheese-free pizza (big up to my lactose intolerant Bredren, BO BO BO!!) and bloody marys.
Do you get the rouge theme?
Everything about this place screams fun. And the location is perfect for those that are looking to enjoy DC.

I had an interesting experience at Hotel Rogue, which is known for being an "all red" boutique-inspired hotel. I don't really like the color red at all, but after researching all of the other hotels in DC I decided this was my best bet. I like unique places, and didn't want to stay at a Four Seasons or Ritz.
I called Hotel Rogue to inquire about my pending stay, and ran into a few problems. After I brought it to their attention Hotel Rogue went above and beyond to ensure that I had the best stay possible.
First the reservationist called me to make sure that everything was ready for my arrival. The manager also called to make sure I did not need anything else. The check-in girls were friendly and efficient upon arrival.
The best part, came, however, when I walked into my room. I was on a very high floor in a huge room. At my request, the hotel provided me with Frette linens, a goldfish they named "Bob Marley" and six of their special red velvet cupcakes. Everyone should order the cupcakes, they were amazing.
They also left a handwritten note for me that was really sweet. I went downstairs to meet a friend, and found out they had free wine and truffle bruschetta during happy hour. They also have a free hot chocolate bar in the afternoon.
That night I slept like a baby. The next day the staff changed over but were equally as professional and friendly. They actually really helped me out because there was snowstorm in NY, and my flight home was canceled. So I got to stay in my room for an extra nine hours while I was trying to sort out my travel plans.
All in all, I would highly recommend the Hotel Rogue if you are in DC. The decor is very funky - which is important to me as I'm taking interior design classes and really like to be surrounded by unique decor. The food at the bar is actually really good - much better than you would ever think. There are a lot of free perks, and it's a fun place to come back to at the end of a long day. The best part is that the room was also extremely affordable, and the customer service is bar none. -

Great hotel. Located less than a mile from the White House.
Which apparently they no longer take reservations for a nights stay at the White House. When I tried to check in I was tackled my 3 secret service agents and had to spend 10 hours trying to explain I had a reservation.

I stayed here over the summer and really enjoyed it.

Okay, so you're a hotel with a theme: red. Red red red. Everything is red. I get it. But it's not just red. It's ANIMAL PRINT. It's ROY ORBISON POP ART. The robe and slippers: animal print. This could have been cute and retro. Unfortunately, it just feels like some cheap, nasty porn palace.
When I arrived to check in, the staff at the front ignored me for a solid five minutes while they finished whatever they were doing on their computer. Tip: do back-office tasks in the back office, not when you're staffing the front desk.
According to the guest services brochure: "Each Kimpton Hotel has its own story ... The story of Hotel Rouge is All Things Red". I beg to differ. "All Things Red" isn't a story. It's just a really lazy, vomit-inducing design concept.Listed in: Washington, DC

Staying here right now while in DC with my hubby who's here for business. Pleasant boutique hotel. Nice location across from the aussie embassy. Given it's in our capital the price of $169 isn't too bad. I pay that much at the HI Express in Anaheim. A resort it is not.

The first shock, upon arriving, was that valet parking was $33.00. Perhaps I'm just not well acquainted with the DC market, but that seemed very high for guest parking.
Our room was well appointed, but a tad bizarre with respect to the layout. My theory is that this building is a rehabbed apartment building and we were in a former one bedroom. Sounds great, right? Except that there were precisely six pieces of furniture in the room and it felt very spartan and bare (from someone who loves modern design and believes in less is more).
Also, I believe that the building is heated centrally. Remember your sixth grade class that was so stiffing hot that you could barely think? That's what it felt like. According to the wall thermostat, it was 76 degrees.
We immediately threw open every window (thank god the room was so big - we had three windows). By the time we left for dinner, we closed some windows and we had cooled down to 73 degrees.
Returning to our room at 1:00 AM, our room had readjusted itself to 75 degrees. We immediately opened every window, slept with just a sheet, and were lucky enough to wake up to a 71 degree room. Why didn't I call the front desk and ask for another room? Because the elevators and hallways were at least 78 degrees - I knew that this was a hotel-wide problem.
Lastly, the room was also not well maintained. Again, basing this on other Kimpton properties, it fell short. The baseboards were totally trashed, furniture worn, and the shower had the water pressure of an airplane bathroom sink.
That said, we got a great price on the room itself. I would not recommend this property to anyone who was paying close to the rack rate. If you get a great deal and can deal with the above annoyances, then this might be the spot. -

Great location, awesome service but something just doesn't quite add up.
I was glad to see there were so many amenities; they had wine tastings and they're pet friendly (not that I have a pet) and everybody from the front desk, bartenders and housekeeping were very accommodating and polite.
This would be a five star review if the actual rooms weren't so weird.
The door opens into a foyer type space with a small closet, a ridiculously huge mirror and a dresser/minibar unit. That room had only one light and was under lit. The "foyer" opened up to the rest of the room which a bed, tv and some chairs. This room also felt under lit.
The bathroom was tiny. Also, none of the doors seemed to be square in their door jambs.
Despite the shortcomings of the rooms, if I am I DC again, I wouldn't mind staying here again. -

I really like this hotel a lot when I stayed for 4 nights in March, 2009. The interior is funky and, as the name might indicate, pretty red. From the carpets, to the artwork, to the walls themselves, this place is quite rouge.
There were so many cool little things here and there, it was hard not to love it. From free pizza and bloody marys in the lobby Saturday and Sunday morning, to the well stocked and well priced minibar in the room, to the huge over-sized mirrors in the room and the red light in the bathroom, this place was about having fun, and we did.
The people working here really understand that if you have a good time at work, you pass that experience along to the customers. Everyone I encountered was professional and attentive, but also laid back and approachable. I took advantage, asking tons of questions and making a few extra requests that were always addressed immediately. Everyone was great.
The hotel itself was very clean and located right between a lot of the government buildings and DuPont Circle (I walked from the DuPont Circle metro stop in about ten minutes) We walked just about everywhere while staying here and never had a problem. Staying here made me want to sign up to be a member of Kimpton Hotels. -

Looking for a chic, pet friendly hotel... well... look no no. I recommend this hotel for all my friends who are traveling with pets or want a central location for a really cool, hop hotel.
The staff is friendly and I LOVE the lounge area. It's a good place when you want a private little get away right in the middle of the city. -

Enjoyed my stay here, and would definitely return. I did have a few concerns, though:
a) it was overly priced. $179 plus tax a night?? That just seems over the top for this hotel. Maybe I got the "sucker" rate.
b) the "business center" had ONE non-working computer in it.
c) room service took over an hour to deliver my dinner.
d) my room was at the end of the hall, away from the elevator, but I could still hear it!
Loved the decor, carpets, room was nice sized, even had a stereo system in it! Loved the red/rouge everywhere. -

Loved this hotel. The service was great, they were lenient with our check out time, there were some free happy hour drinks/apps (Red Stripe and I forget the red appetizer), plus free Bloody Marys and pizza on weekends, a very interesting mini bar, and interesting over-the-top red decor. Everything was clean, the WiFi worked great, the animal print robes were fun, and the beds were comfy. Was back in town for a 4th of July extended weekend visit last year, and hotel rooms were cheap in the area at this time (who woulda thought). Only paid $99/night, when usually everything in DC is at least $200.
I've stayed in tons of hotels due to being a professional nomad, and have also stayed at a lot of DC hotels. I have to say, due to this great hotel stay, I had a relaxing time...and I'm now a Kimpton Hotel fan. -

So the reviews and etc on this place seemed pretty sweet. Lotsa stars, Lotsa red...Hotel Rouge...I get it.
The rooms ARE pretty huge. And my king sized bedroom was twice the size of my room in the Grand Hyatt in Atlanta at half the price. And yes, there was a tiger print bathrobe in my closet.
OH and there was open bar on wine and beer!
I'd give this place 5 stars aside from a few things:
1. They pre-billed my debit card $50 "in case" of concessions on top my regular bill. They said they were just keeping my credit card number for their records but NEVER said they were billing me right away until I walked to an ATM and freaked out. Maybe other hotels do this but i've traveled a lot and never seen it on my bill. It wouldn't be that bad had I not been running low on cash and relying on that $50 to cab out.
2. The concierge told me that there was no food around there unless i go to whole foods or 'eat at their restaurant'. 4 blocks later at Dupont Circle, I see a foodruckers, a mcdonalds and restaurants everywhere.
*i forgot to add that i gave in and bought something at the restaurant...crab beignets. And i got 5 tiny balls. Ugh.*
3. Something bit me in bed. I'm pretty certain it happened there because I wore jeans the whole time to DC until I went to bed and woke up with bites on my legs and feet.
...The distance was kind of far from the metro. Yeah, on the map it looks all sweet and innocent but when you start walking to Dupont Circle hauling your suitcase down those hella confusing streets, its a LONG 4 blocks, if not more. Yes it was cheap but my other choice was the Grand Hyatt for $20 more and I wish I ponied up. -

Animal print robes in every room. That should say enough right there...
This place was awesome, the friendliest of staff and an excellent decore. Only a few minutes from Dupont circle and the metro. Very clean and relaxing and pleasing to look at. I unfortunately couldn't enjoy the free drinks because of other arrangements but i'll be back for them in the future.
By comparison I can see how this place may look pricier than similar places but I felt the extra few dollars were well worth it, especially if you're in DC to have a good time.
They were extremely accommodating, they were nice enough to load or bags after check-out and allow us to leave our car parked for a few more hours afterwards so we could continue to enjoy the city. -

Heh heh. This place is quirky. I can't say much that's new: lots of red, lots of animal print. A fairly large room overall, but the bathroom was a bit close. Oh and if you are coming with a pet (yes, a pet-friendly hotel), they'll write your pet's name on a little chalkboard by the entrance near some bowls of treats and water. Nice.
As some folks said, it's closest to Dupont station but close means three or four short blocks away. This is very reasonable as long as it isn't too cold out.
I enjoyed the little freebies: coffee and chai in the morning, cider/hot cocoa/wine in the evening. I didn't get a chance to sample the bloody marys and snacks on weekend mornings, though that sounded exciting too.
I have an aunt, who's well-to-do and shops at Chico's and refers to lots of things as "cute". Well, this place would just be so cute for her. For me, I'd come back especially with another steal of a price like the one we got on priceline.Comment from Abraham L. of Hotel Rouge 1/17/2012

I have stayed at Hotel Rouge twice now, once for a week, once for three nights. There is no better place to stay in DC (unless you have kids who need a pool) than this one, for several reasons.
1) The price. When I stayed here in the height of tourist season in the summer, it was $150 a night, which is about half of what you pay for most DC hotels. Last weekend, it was $110 a night, which is less than what you pay for a mediocre hotel off the interstate. Again, far less than ANY DC hotel, let alone one comparable with location and amenities.
2) Location. It's on Scott Circle, which is a short walk from Dupont Circle. Dupont Circle is full of restaurants, bars, galleries, and has a Metro stop. Scott Circle is perfectly quiet. So, you can go have fun at night, have easy access to a Metro stop, and come back to sleep peacefully. Besides that, it's about a twenty-minute walk from Adams Morgan (more bars/restaurants/nightlife) or the Mall (walk straight down 16th and run into the White House).
3) The rooms. Large rooms, very comfy beds, leopard print robes in the closet, ample workspace. Sure, the decor is kitschy, but that's part of the vibe at Hotel Rouge. At least that makes it unique!
3) The staff. They are always friendly and helpful. I had a billing issue from my first stay, and it was quickly and politely taken care of.
As someone familiar with DC, and who has spent a lot of time online looking for affordable places to stay in that city, this is really the best. I am amazed that anyone would stay elsewhere, and I can't say enough good things about this spot. To finish it off, there are several lovely river birches that wave outside the windows on the front of the second floor. If you can snag that room, you get trees outside your window, a lovely view of the neighborhood, and the knowledge that you're paying way less than anyone else in DC for a much better time. Go, go. -

Reading some of these reviews it seems that many patrons have completely missed the point of this kitschy hotel.
The decor, animal print robes, etc. are supposed to be fun. Lighten up! I once stayed at Hotel Rouge and the J.W. Marriott back to back and was struck by how much I prefer character to monotony. In this case, character in the form of wine receptions can be a welcome change.
The hotel had wonderful service. Our room was clean and comfortable, and once alerted to a special event, the hotel surprised us with wine and cupcakes in our room after an evening out. Not too far from both the red and blue metro lines, even in chilly weather.
4 stars instead of 5 only for the ridiculous $33 + tax rate for one night of parking.Comment from Allan B. of Hotel Rouge 11/16/2010
