I must've missed the rowdy scene everyone has mentioned, maybe I would have gotten more out of my Peoria visit... oh well.  Bygones.

The Pere Marquette was a fine hotel.  I got a "complimentary upgrade" to the 11th floor, not sure what that meant but my room was very nice.  The best feature was the clock radio that had an MP3 player hook-up!  Awesome!!  I was thrilled to be able to hook up my i-pod during my stay.  There was also a box-fan in the closet which I pulled out and plugged in, happy for the "white noise" to cover up any neighbors/hall noise.

The exercise room left something to be desired.  It consists of about 5 pieces of cardio equipment - the elliptical was broken, the treadmill incline didn't work, and one bike had no knob to adjust the seat height.  I mean, I suffered through it, don't get me wrong, but the room could use a little maintenance.  I believe you can get guest passes to a nearby gym for $7/day.

The hotel location is downtown, but there's not a lot within walking distance.  A number of pub/grills (many of which seem to be open til 4am... hmm... maybe I SLEPT through the rowdy scene, damn), but no bustling shopping/restaurant district.  I took a drive about a mile up the road to a great Indian restaurant, a much better option than the pub/grills for me.

The hotel offers a complimentary breakfast buffet every morning in the restaurant, which was decent.  Eggs, bacon/sausage, biscuits/gravy, and french toast sticks (totally over-done), along with pastries/bagels, and cereal.

Parking is easy, in an adjacent city structure - just get your ticket validated at the front desk.

The conference facilities are standard (and freezing, like most are, so wear a sweater).  There is a business center for guests to use with one computer and a printer.

BOTTOM LINE:  The hotel was fine and the MP3 compatible radio saved my sanity during my trip.  Yeeaah!

The Pere Marquette has been in the Peoria spotlight for 50 years or more. It's an elegant building that attracts an older business crowd; it always has, just as the bar has usually been rowdy. The restaurant has always served acceptable food and the service is equally acceptable. The wonderful thing about this old girl is that it renovates and reinvents as necessary.

For visitors who would like a less rowdy atmosphere, may I suggest Jim's Steak House located in the Janssen Law Center, The food is divine and the bartender mixes a mean drink.

Or, if you are a regular visitor to Peoria, you might consider joining the Creve Coeur Club in the Twin Towers Mall on Fulton Street, Suite 186. They offer dining, libation, and some nice perks for members.

You want to like this hotel, considering the history and all, and the rooms are bigger and with better TVs than the Mark Twain or the motels in town, but with the rowdy bar scene (isn't there somewhere better to go?), lousy parking lot, no decent food options, and when the Embassy Suites opened just across the river with sweeeeet new rooms, you wonder why you bother staying there....unless you really have a hankering for Big Al's.

The Pere Marquette is alright.  The lobby has some pretty elements, check in was easy, our room was clean, and my group had fun being a little bit rowdy (ok, a LOT rowdy) in the bar/lounge downstairs (the cake thing in the big martini glass was a disappointment, BTW).  The breakfast buffet is below average, but it's not horrible either.  Location is good if you're in town for an event at the Civic Center.  I'll be staying here again for next year's event, which is fine by me.
