30 reviews for Hotel Monteleone
Caveat is that I did not stay here.
As we were walking by, I pointed out to my friend that the hotel is supposedly haunted. We proceeded to walk across the street and ask the doorman to tell us about the haunted hotel. He seemed slightly taken aback, but proceeded to tell us about a story he heard. We were random people on the street, not even staying at the hotel, and he was super friendly and gave us a bit of lore.
I and my gf stayed in this hotel for one night. So, I have nothing to say about the room service but the front desk is friendly. If I need to pay over $100, I personally prefer major hotels such as Hyatt or Hilton because of their service and cleanness. But, since my gf wanted to taste the NOLA culture, music etc, we decided to stay this local hotel which has a good review in Expedia and other web sites as well.
Overall, it's pretty good. However, I have to mention about the parking. There is no self park and parking guy told me the parking is $10. When we checked out, I was told that if I made a reservation through a travel website such as Expedia, the parking is $30. What the heck! Neither Expedia nor Thank you point makes $20 saving for this room.
Other than that, a good location with nice decor and little noise due to the music from the street which is not bad in NOLA.

I don't know why this place is marked $$$. I got a great room for a really reasonable price, and the reservation staff was really helpful and accommodating. The fact that the Carousel Bar is here is a major plus, well, more for Martin than the bar itself.
My room was clean, well-designed, and bigger than most of the rooms my colleagues were in, but still on the small side. The conference rooms and ballrooms were really fantastic, but getting to the media suite on the 17th floor was a challenge, because the building clearly had additions slapped on here and there, so elevators don't all go to the upper floors, and none go from the first floor to the top, which necessitates either a flight of stairs or a one-floor ride in the smellevator, stinkiest elevator in the south.
Supposedly, the the 14th floor, where we stayed, is haunted and you can borrow an audio-tour from the concierge to learn more, but we never got around to it. Other than a malfunctioning TV, we never saw anything that seemed remotely spooky.
Service was excellent with one exception. When I checked in, they told me it was better to give a credit card for security than a debit card, but when I checked out, I could put the charge on the debit. When I went to check out, they told me they had already charged the card on file and that they would or could not switch the charges.
Looking forward to coming back to New Orleans next summer, and I am strongly considering another week at the Monteleone.

I stayed here a few times. The best things about this hotel are 1. Location : On a classy street with a lot of antiques, near food and coffee shop ( Acme Oyster and others). In the French Quarter within walking distance to everything. My friends stayed here, one time, and I stayed outside the quarter. I was jealous when I visited their hotel and stayed here always after that. 2. Safety and lighting: Well lit hotel that is safe with a warm, inviting lobby. 3. The Carousel Bar: Awesome bar with the best bartenders and drinks, I hate to even say the word "hurricane" but this is where I had the best one ever made. Real drinks no sugary watered down crap here. I remember the bartender being hella cool. The staff was always great at the front desk and in the hotel. The ladies in the breakfast room were super nice once I got them talking. Good breakfast. Nothing stands out as bad at this hotel which is the reason it is a great hotel! The room I had was always clean and cozy and the room service great! Prices seem to have gone up since Katrina, so more worth it if you get a good deal. Never had a great room view or huge room at this hotel but never noticed, as I was too busy being out in the Quarter to care. I have only been put in the front rooms in the historic part of the hotel so I can't vouch for the back added on rooms where my friends stayed. ( There is a back section in the hotel that was added on at some time that's through a long hallway). Anyway, If you want a clean, problem free, nice historic hotel then this is the place.
My caveat is that I have never stayed in a room here, but I have attended meetings and used the facilities.
The staff is great. I have never had a rude person and everyone is courteous and professional. The meeting rooms are lovely and well appointed.

Nice hotel. Quaint not huge. Classic NOLA-French antique decor. Rooms are like the hotel, quaint may be even smallish. But high ceilings makes the room look bigger. We had a terrible view, side of a building. But we were fine with that. The GF was not too impress with the service b/c of a pool towel fiasco and front desk. But I thought it was minor and they did make amends.
We had drinks at the Carousel Bar and that was neat. Can't beat the location, in the heart of the Quarter. A block off Bourbon, around the corner from Rite Aid, Acme, and Brennan's. Rooftop pool is cool. Small but nice. It overlooks the skyline and great place to watch the sunset.
Pricey but good place to stay.
I got to stay here last fall while I was in town for a wedding. I was really impressed with the architecture and decoration of the whole place. The lobby has high ceilings with an ivory color scheme and beautiful chandeliers. Our room was pretty small. It had 2 double beds and there wasn't too much room to walk around, it was still nice though. I found the bed and pillows to be very comfy. I should know because I spent most of a Sunday afternoon on them nursing one of the worst hangovers I've ever had (Thank you wedding bar! Thank you Carousel bar! Thank you some other bar whose name I can't remember!)
The location is perfect. You are within walking distance to the French Quarter. The Carousel Bar is really cool also. As many other reviewers mentioned, the bar rotates at a slow pace. Every time I looked up the bartenders and patrons were in a different place. Pretty cool. The drinks and service were good also.
I did get to try the breakfast because the bride and groom held a day after brunch. Everything I ate was delicious, especially the eggs benedict.
I'd stay here again if I had the money. Luckily my dad picked up the bill for this one and I heard it wasn't cheap.

Just stayed here last week for a little spring break getaway and this hotel was great! It seemed a little fancy-schmancy for my taste when we first walked in, but it turned out to be a great fit! Very helpful, friendly people at the desk and a nice, clean atmosphere. The roof-top pool was awesome to lay out by, the pool itself was heated to bathwater temperature, which was a little warm for my taste. The rooms a bit tight, but very comfortable beds. My one major complaint was with the valet/parking in general. First of all, $30/night to park when I'm already paying $160 to stay here? That seemed a little steep. Next, after we had settled into our room and come out a good 30 minutes later, my car was still parked on the street! I'm sorry, but New Orleans drivers are kinda in there own little world and if I'm paying for a parking garage, I would like my car to be put in it ASAP!
So yea, otherwise, our stay was lovely, the rotating bar was pretty cool, and the location was fabulous, only minutes to anywhere we wanted to go walking!

A mixed bag. Location is great, bar is good, rooftop pool is nice, etc. But the rooms are hit and miss, some are updated and comfy, some still have the old spring mattresses, all are relatively tight but not unusually so for New Orleans. So just make sure you specify when you make your reservation that you'd like to stay on one of the updated floors.
We went down to the hotel restaurant for breakfast one morning, figuring we would sacrifice quality for convenience. And the breakfast buffet looked good but nothing special, however the items we ordered off the menu (in particular the eggs benedict) were outstanding and the hollandaise was made fresh. But the most memorable thing was our server. She very purposefully asked everyones names, instantly memorized them, and never spoke to someone without mentioning their name. She was a mix of downhome charm, and attentive professionalism I haven't experienced before. What blew me away was when we came back the next day and she still knew us all, remembered my sons allergy to milk, my coffee preferences, etc. That's a rare gem that the restaurant has working for them and I hope that they realize it.

Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights with gf and family. One of us had a room facing a side street and another had a room facing Royal. The rooms facing the main street can be quite noisy, so choose wisely when you reserve a room.
This is a historic hotel with a wonderful style. The entire ambience is great. The rooms are comparatively small but the beds are very comfortable. The toilets are also very small but of OK standard. The bath robes are very comfortable, give them a try.
The front-desk was very helpful and overall the staff gave us great service. The bellboy service is a bit slow
They charge extra for internet service and they only offer wired Ethernet. The charge for internet is $25/day. This is a rip off and they really ought to change that.
The hotel offers a buffet breakfast. The food is great and the service is also very good. The price is $19 / person which is entirely reasonable.
Overall a great hotel experience, but the noise can pose a challenge so go for a side street room, if possible.
When at the hotel make sure to try to the carrousel bar which is a treat and great fun. The entertainment is typically very good.
You are only two blocks from Bourbon Street and two streets away from Magazine Street, the shopping district.
We just returned from a mini-vacation in New Orleans and we're happy we decided to stay here. The last time we were here quite a few years ago the hotel had become very shabby, but we heard it had been refurbished so we decided to give it another try.
We had booked a traditional room at the AAA rate of $179 and when we checked in we were given a complimentary upgrade to a beautifully decorated preferred room with a spectacular view of the French Quarter. The room had all the amenities you expect to find in a deluxe hotel and the mattress on our king bed was firm and very comfortable.
Service was outstanding. The bulb in one of the bedside lamps had blown out and within moments after calling housekeeping someone was there with a replacement. The front desk staff was friendly and efficient and the concierge gave us some good dining recommendations.
This is a perfect choice if you want to stay in the heart of everything.

Stayed here a while back. It was nothing special, and if you pay for the lower category rooms or try to use a AAA discount, you get dumped into Siberia, and have to walk what seems like several blocks (within the hotel) just to get outside.
A New Orleans landmark. A beautiful hotel with exceptionally friendly service.
The room was in my dad's name, and I arrived in New Orleans about 4 hours before he did. The agent at the desk had no problem with me checking into the room. Nice! I was more than ready to unload and get settled in.
We had a double double room on the 14h floor. Very large and spacious with a window overlooking the Quarter. I wouldn't say the view was picturesque.. but what do people expect when looking out over the rooftops of buildings that are a hundred years old? I thought the view was fine. The bathroom was large and had ample counter space for me to lay my toiletries out on. The beds were super comfy, and I slept like a baby every night.
One of the best features - despite it being the first weekend of Mardi Gras and the French Quarter being PACKED with tourists, the room was completely quiet. We were not able to hear the street musicians or drunks below.
The pool area is pretty (see photos). I spent time here everyday reading and lazing in the sun. Since it is winter, the pool is heated to a comfortable bath like temperature. It was such a treat to be able to go for an afternoon swim!
The door men were friendly and opened the door for me every time I left or entered.
I will definitely stay here again and will recommend it to anyone visiting New Orleans.
Awesome Hotel and location. Prices on the steep side but i didnt pay for it, i was staying with a friend and his company paid for it. It is loud, you can hear people on Bourbon St even with the windows closed. The bathrooms seemed boring compared to the rooms and the hotel
Pros: Location is great, on French Quarter, kinda hard to find at first, decor is modern, amenities are great.
Cons: Valet parking and parking in general is expensive, although any place around Bourbon St is expensive. Bathrooms are somewhat small
I really liked this hotel. About $200 per night but in the French Quarter this is expected for the nicer hotels. Ironically, my room had no windows so I was a bit disappointed when I checked in but as it turned out this is a good thing because you don't here the street noise and in New Orleans the street noise can keep you awake all night! So consider asking for a room with no windows :-) A nice bar in the lobby (the bar is a rotating) and a FABULOUS roof top pool with a great view of the city. I'll return!
I really wanted to like this hotel, and there are many things to like about it. Unfortunately, after staying there for a week, I won't go back. For $185 a night, a discount I was told, I booked a room in May 2008 for my friend's wedding in October 2008. The front desk staff are a mixed bag, some very professional, others downright rude.
Very elegantly redone, and right in the heart of the French Quarter, my small room on the eighth floor, with what they said had a river view, looked out on a parking lot and a dirty side street. Maid service was excellent, but the cable wasn't working and I had to call down to have it fixed. I really liked the Carousel Bar, although the bartender was a bit on the slow side, but no big deal. The room pool and gym, I should say, are quite nice.
On the fourth night I was there, I had to be moved as my neighbors were drunkenly speaking on their cell phones and then started having sex. The woman started screaming for the man to stop and that it hurt, so before I moved rooms, I called security.
The room I was moved to on the seventh floor was exactly the same as the first. And, despite my having requested a room with a view since the first day I was there, nobody helped me with this request despite my repeated attempts.
I called the manager on duty, who told me he would upgrade my room and give me a free breakfast. Unfortunately, this wouldn't do, as I was leaving in a day and explained to him I would have liked to have a view room when I checked in. He said that despite being the manager on duty, he could not adjust my room rate but he would check with his boss to see what they could do. I NEVER heard back from them.
It's really a shame when you do your best to get a good deal, and the hotel you stay in just doesn't care.

When you're standing at a crowded bar trying to buy a round of drinks, and the bar keeps moving, you start to question if you need another round of drinks.
Then you see it's not just you. Drink up!

Welcoming doormen and lovely fresh and fragrant flowers greet you on the way in and a pleasant staff assist you in all your other needs. Room was clean, tho room sizes do vary based on their layout. Get a room facing the river! I was very happy in 1082, enjoyed the pool/rooftop, the catering services, the meeting rooms and the Carousel Bar. You must stop in and say hello to Marvin. He's a fabulous bartender!
This is where I stay every year when I am down in NOLA.
Historic crib right in the heart of French Q.
Just a few blocks away from Bourbon Street
but far enough to avoid the smell of Bourbon St pukies.
Inside the hotel is lovely, some room has porn-like bath tub even.
But the biggest attraction here is the Carousel Bar and Lounge
This bar seats about 25 people around revolving bar
so no, you're not drunk just yet.
head bartender here, Marvin has won a local cocktail competition
they know what they are doing
in fact, most of the historic bars in New Orleans take mixology seriously
This is a must stop for NOLA visitors who are not in rehab

I very much enjoyed my stay at the Monteleone. The location, on Royal Street in the Quarter, is pretty great. It's only a block off Bourbon Street (that block is important for noise control...) and less than a 5-minute walk to the St. Charles streetcar. The hotel itself is beautifully and very well maintained, and the rooms are very comfortable. They're smaller than your average modern American hotel's rooms, but this is not a modern hotel! And anyway, how much room do you need to sleep??? The Carousel Lounge is fun for a drink or two, although I didn't feel like spending much time there considering all the other great watering holes nearby.
My only gripe was with the staff -- why so cold and impersonal??

Well worth the price. Location, service and everything in-between is great about this hotel. A MUST STAY for anyone wanting to stay in the French Quarter.
I stayed here a couple of nights on my last trip to NOLA. I liked the old school feel of the hotel. The rotating carousel bar was the best part about the whole hotel. It makes a full rotation every 14 minutes. The cocktail selection was great too. My only complaints are the rooms were small and our internet connection didn't work. Which wasn't a big deal since we wanted to get out and see the city. The beds were comfortable and the customer service was fantastic. I would definitely stay here again and I'll most certainly be going back to the carousel bar!

Writing this from within the walls of the hotel. Not much different from what you deserve to get from a $$$ hotel -- good service, very clean, a tv with that silly gamecube controller.
I would give it credit for location but I'm not a fan of the area (kind of a play-it-safer put-off-by-drunks). I am also docking it a star for two complaints:
1. Turn down the damn water pressure! I'm of reasonable stature, and I almost fell over. Tsk tsk, don't forget mother nature. The water spilled over to the bathroom floor.
2. An evacuation alarm sounded while I was doing my business in the bathroom. Turned out to be a false alarm, and I know they can't do much about it, but I thought there ought to have been a more coordinated effort to let people hiding behind dumpsters with their pants around their ankles know that everything was a-ok.
For the conference rate that I got, though, it's been well worth it.

A bunch of friends and I stayed here over the weekend for a wedding that we were all in. The bride's parents paid for our three-night stay, which was awesome - but I do happen to know that the rooms are very resonably priced for such a nice hotel. It's a great little boutique hotel located just a street or two over from the famed Bourbon St. - it's the perfect location that's close enough to everything you want to do in the French Quarter. You can even walk to Cafe Du Monde for some delicious beignets!
The whole hotel was pretty fancy - and it boasts the Carousel Bar, which is famous in NOLA. It's built from an actual carousel that moves really slowly in a circle. (Not good for those prone to motion sickness.) There's also a rooftop pool and bar with great views of the city. The workout room was exceptionally nice and had views of the river. The hotel is supposedly haunted (you can read creepy stories on their website) but despite our best ghost hunting efforts, we had a ghost-free weekend. I only had two complaints about the hotel. The rooms were small (although the beds were amazingly comfy!) and the bathrooms were even more tiny. They tried to make up for it by filling the bathroom with mirrors, so I applaud their efforts. The other complaint is the lack of customer service by their front desk staff. We had some major problems checking in and out because they couldn't seem to grasp the concept of a group booking made by the bride for all of us. It caused a big headache, but it was finally taken care of. Note - if you ever have someone else make your reservation, make sure your name is on it as well or they will not let you have any room keys.

Stay here before the price goes up!: My first thought as we pulled in was that dad must surely have taken leave of his senses. How could we possibly afford to stay in such a place? I'm rather surprised to discover that this is, in fact, a rather inexpensive place.
As somebody else reported on another site, the cleaning staff does have the annoying habit of knocking on the door early in the morning, even when the "do not disturb" sign is up, but having tried to talk with some of the staff about this, I found that there was a considerable language barrier. This is a part of their job that the staff needs to do better, but they're not failing to do it out of arrogance. I strongly suspect that they just can't read the signs and let's face it, this is far from being the only business in the United States to have that problem.
The rooms are very large, very clean and very comfortable - getting back to my own apartment in Chicago was a considerable step downward in that area. The location couldn't be better - Royal, about a block from Canal in the French Quarter. You may have seen the photo of the exterior of the building on (ahem!) another review site; the place actually looks better than that picture, and while the lobby has obviously (and regrettably) been modernized since the hotel went up, at least it's a very nice looking modernization.
Somebody on that search engine run location said something about "paper thin walls" that allowed one to hear everything happening next door. That wasn't my experience at all, and my sense of hearing is unusually good. A faint amount of noise found its way up from the street, which is to be expected near the heart of what, at the time of our visit, was a city of about half of a million people. I can't say much about any ballrooms in the building, because I used a hotel for what I would think most people would use a hotel for during a trip - as a place to sleep before going out and exploring during the day. But I can report that the other guests seemed to be much pleased with ... basically everything.
Should I have the funds or opportunity to travel again, I would definitely stay here again.

Great central location, friendly staff. Small rooms , especially the bathrooms. I guess they were one of the few hotels that during Katrina made sure all their staff was bussed out on them...and anyone that wanted their job back upon reopening had it. I like that. The only problem for me is that we had just spent the previous night at the Windsor Court for just $10 more...and we got a HUGE suite...kitchen, living room, small balcony, bedroom, powder room and fairly huge bathroom. it was REALLY lovely.

Excellent restaurant, the breakfast is awesome! Nice, very clean rooms with spacious bathrooms. Perfect location and impeccable service.
Four stars for location and charm. It is a really cute boutique hotel. The rooms and bathrooms are not huge, but it's a really old hotel. The location is fabulous. It's just one block off Bourbon street and two blocks from Canal. There is a Rite Aid just a block away and Royal street is where all the antique shops are. You are right in the middle of the French quarter, but just far enough away from Bourbon street.
Really reasonably priced boutique hotel. I stayed here over the memorial weekend and I was really impressed overall with my friends choice. The location can't be beat. You are far enough removed from the madness of certain steets while still being able to walk everywhere. The prices are super reasonable. I think I paid $169 / night over this holiday weekend. That was the cost for a room with two double beds. The room was especially small and the bathroom was made for a doll house, but who spends any time in the room. They did have a mini-bar which was good and bad for obvious reasons. The TV wasn't a flat screen, but so what that just helped me from ordering the overpriced movie options. The staff was very nice and I especially liked Ms. Eva the concierge who I used for some reason every day. As soon as I got there on Friday she was able to track me down within minutes a tailor that did one hour alterations and her other suggestions were good. This place houses the carousel bar, which is a must visit. I can't speak to the food since we didn't eat here, but I'm sure it would be decent. The pool was okay, but didn't spend much time. Don't really need to work on the tan. They have a great spot for beignet right next door (cafe beignet). The beignet are just as good as cafe du monde' without the wait. The spa was a little below average. Save your spa experience for some of the bigger luxury hotels. Overall a great deal and a good experience. I'll go again.

So I didn't stay here and I'm just reviewing the Carousel Bar and Lounge. First and foremost I'd like to send a shout to my Fave bartender in NOLA "Parker!!!" Every time I hit up the NO I've got to catch a ride on the carousel. Its pretty cool you drink and spin (slowly) in this beautiful dark lounge. It's a great way to spend the evening. Please go visit Parker and tip the man well!
