I took my girlfriend to seattle for a little bday getaway and we stayed here since it was close to everything and the price was right. I was so shocked at the amenities this hotel had to offer. First off, they have a goldfish in every room. AWESOME! the room is very spacious, and the bathroom was very clean and kept up. They had robes for you to use in the room, they were leopard print so i didnt care too much for them but the best part of this hotel was the concierge service.
This hotels downtown location is so ideal for not having to spend money on cabs if you dont mind a little walk. We lucked out the weekend we went since we got 3 days of beautiful sunshine. It was still cold as all hell, but they weather was beautiful. It reminded me of San Francisco.

I chose the Monaco because of its location and pet friendly policy. Even though I left my dorky dog at home, I like supporting businesses that love the same things I do.
Upon checking in, we found we were upgraded to a Monte Carlo Suite. This gesture was appreciated but the reason I ordered a double queen room was because I was in Seattle with another mom-friend and beds are very important to us. I didn't want to sleep on a rollaway or hideabed. But my friend volunteered to take the hideabed so we proceeded to our room on the top (11th) floor.
The room was pretty utilitarian and the bathroom was a bit disappointing, tiny, with no separate toilet area and not suited for a couple of girls primping for a big night out. I'm embarassed to say that it took us some time to find the bath towels. (Just so you know, they're on a rack in the shower.) There was no phone book in the room. The section of the information book titled "after dark" was missing. There was no wine/beverage list for room service. The honor bar prices were crazy ($20 for a split of champagne) but it wasn't one of those annoying ones that if you move something you get charged for it. The room was clean and lacked the crazy red stripes I was secretly looking forward to.
We ordered a bottle of champagne within minutes and it came quickly, accompanied by a bowl of sliced strawberries. When the server brought it, we lamented not ordering some munchies so he eagerly offered to bring us back the goat cheese stuffed, bacon wrapped dates in a balsamic reduction and a plate of "house cured meats". The dates were delicious, even though I'm not a big goat cheese fan, but there were only 3 of them. The meats were decent, accompanied by some grilled toast that looked like Oroweat's Oat Nut to me. For the 3 items it was about $80, plus the 18% gratuity.
I've seen a lot of room service menus and there seems to be a nice selection at prices that aren't TOO outrageous but any late night dining is limited to paninis, popcorn and several other items. (When we returned at 1 AM I would have paid anything for one of the wood fired pizzas.)
Because we spent so much time getting ready to go out, we missed out on the complimentary wine reception and didn't get to use our cocktail coupon at Sazerac.
When we returned from our night out, the room had been serviced but the hideabed was not made up. The blanket available for the extra bed is one of those terrible foamy stiff weird ones. Ew!
All of the staff was friendly and fun, especially the guys who tried to find us a bar that was still serving at 1 AM on a Tuesday night. (You always think you need more... ) They fetched my friend antiseptic cream and bandaids for her nasty blister and I wished I remembered their names. ; )
Overall, great location, nice staff and decent property. I would most likely stay here again if I wanted to be stationed in that area of downtown.
It's not just how much we enjoyed our stay at the Monaco, it's how much it trounced our friends' stay at the W across the street.
Here's the goods:
* Free happy hour where the staff pours wine and challenges guests in Guitar Hero. Even the hotel manager mingled with us and was genuinely interested in our stay.
* Decent sized clean rooms with complimentary goldfish. When one went belly-up, the staff promptly replaced him. Received condolences from hotel manager at next happy hour.
* Attached bar/restaurant is tasty.
* Free water, Gatorade, and Cliff Bars on the morning of the Seattle Marathon.
* Free happy hour
Most of our friends stayed across the street at the W, and depressed us with tales of their cramped rooms, $7 pre-marathon gatorades, and pissy service (bartender chode, don't tell your marathon-running guests "what, having a mid-life crisis?"). As we're a charitable bunch, we snuck a couple of those W-dwellers into our free happy hour. Did I mention that there's a free happy hour?
I was impressed enough with Monaco that I'll look up Kimpton Hotels in whatever city I'm traveling to next.

Thanks for the memories, Albert.*
For a few days and nights, my niece and I descended on the Emerald City and here's where we called home-someplace eclectic and elegant, whimsical and funky but overall sweet. Centrally located in downtown Seattle, the hotel allowed us to traipse around town, from Safeco to the Needle and everywhere in between fairly easily (however, those hills are pre-Stair Master's). The hotel's staff was helpful and friendly. They helped get our airline boarding pass in order, arranged for a town car back to the airport and fed Albert daily.
Thanks for a lovely and quiet stay, HM. Take good care of Albert.
*Our complimentary goldfish who stayed in our room!

I didn't stay here, but made reservations through Kimpton & spoke with a Heather. She was the most helpful, thoughtful and thorough person. It was a pleasure to get great customer service. She wanted to make sure the reservations for each of the 8 people were tailored to their preferences. This is seriously lacking in todays customer service.
Oh, they do have a kick ass HH though!!

Last minute trip to Seattle -- emergency trip with less than 24 hours advance notice. Where to stay?
The Hotel Monaco saved us, and were very accommodating. We needed three rooms (us, my wife's elderly parents, and one for our two teenaged girls), and they not only had the rooms available (so, probably would a Motel 6), but they managed to juggle things so all of use were within a few rooms of each other on the same floor. And when the thermostat was broken in one of the rooms, they came up with yet a fourth room on the same floor to keep us together and happy . . .
Special kudos for Tim -- one of the bellmen, who came through with helping us with dinner reservations (when the concierge was a dismal failure -- thus the four stars), and for Megan at the front desk who accommodated all our needs with a helpful smile when one was sorely needed.
Our rooms were spacious and comfortable, the staff was warm, friendly, and ready to assist with anything -- from the parking valet to the room service staff ; everyone was great! (Well, except for the concierge.)

The boy and I enjoyed a wonderful getaway to Seattle this past weekend. Just a short two hour flight from San Francisco and there we were- two states north. I gotta say that we could not have picked a better weekend to visit Seattle. The city treated us well with a full day of sunshine on Saturday, sandwiched between sparsely clouded blue skies on Friday and Sunday- without a drop of rain!!
The Hotel Monaco is a cozy boutique hotel located in the heart of downtown Seattle. The concierge at Monaco was outstandingly hospitable. I bugged them with all kinds of touristy questions, and I got some fantastic tips and restaurant recommendations in return. (Thanks guys!)
The front desk was equally great. As soon as we checked in, they sent up our pet for the weekend- an adorable goldfish with a label next to the bowl that read: Hello, My Name Is HENRY. While you were gone, I ordered room service. Hee :o)
Although this hotel is on the pricier side, we got an awesome rate through hotwire. Originally, we were assigned a double queen room. I called the front desk over a week in advance and they upgraded us to a king suite on the 11th floor (top floor). Fantastic service!
Our room was very clean and quiet. Helpful magazines on all the Must See's of Seattle were arranged on the nightstand. Aveda products in the bathroom were also a nice touch. I loved our cozy, suuuper comfy bed- but the thing I valued most about the Hotel Monaco was its location. We were about five blocks away from Pike Place Market. Ten minutes walk to everywhere from Pacific Place (shopping) to Pier 50 (ferry). The boy and I so enjoyed walking through Seattle in such fortunate weather that we walked all the way from Pier 50 to the Space Needle.
I would be delighted to stay at Hotel Monaco again when I get the chance to revisit this wonderful city. Seattle is filled with friendly people and fantastic food. (And how 'bout that view of Mt. Rainier from the airport?!)

I've been duped. Completely had. And never, ever will I let anyone suffer the fate of staying at the Hotel Monaco.
One day, 2.5 weeks ago, I was coordinating a hotel stay for my colleagues in Seattle. Mind you, these are twenty-something software engineers and business guys. Their favorite, Hotel 1000 was bursting at the seams and couldn't accommodate us and therefore recommended the Hotel Alexis, right across the street. And of course, the Alexis was totally packed too. The sales manager at the Alexis kindly suggested we try their "sister" hotel, the Hotel Monaco for our corporate stay. I reconfirmed:
Me: "You are positive this hotel is the same star level as Hotel 1000?"
Ignorant attendant: "Yes, it is 2 blocks away and is a part of our same family of hotels, the Kimpton hotels"
I blindly book $7000 worth of hotel stay at the Hotel Monaco.
Last Thursday, myself and my colleague arrive a day before our party arrives, just to make sure everything runs smoothly. We check in to a semi-hoaky (I assumed it was simply boutique hotel-charm) lobby, and proceed to our rooms.
The elevator door opens up to find a goldfish in the elevator lobby of my floor. Hmm. That's kitchy. I think. I walk down the halls and notice the overly dramatic fake-melting candle lighting on the walls. I chuckle a bit and enter my room.
With the lights off I could still see the hideous stripes. Everywhere. Red and white carnival striped walls. I flip on the lights. Even more terror: a faux-wicker framed mirror, plastic blue vases, leopard print chaise lounge, and misplaced Office Max desk chair. I open the closet, cringing for fear what I might find: silk leopard print pajamas and a zebra print robe. I was surprised I didn't find a hooker in there for my convenience. The shower curtain was one giant terry cloth mess; like a juicy couture nightmare. And they had the audacity to have Aveda bath products stocked in the rooms. I felt sorry for the Aveda distributors for having their products so misrepresented in such a place.
My co-worke texted me immediately from his own room, "Can we leave? Please?". We meet downstairs for a cigarette, recovery, and just a breather.
"I don't know if I can sleep because the walls are so loud"
"I actually had a goldfish in my room. Now I feel personally responsible for this fish living in such a state. I'm not ready for that kind of responsibility"
"Do we have to spend the night?"
"I'm positive I'm going to get bed bugs from this place"
"I'm thinking it's like The Shining-meets-Circus Circus-meets-Mediterranean Cruise"
We frantically run around downtown Seattle and find rooms scattered at various other hotels for our colleagues, hoping to save them from the terror. Knowing my job could potentially be on the line for booking a corporate stay at such a place.
And when I asked the Alexis' general manager how she could have possibly sent me to the Monaco thinking it was an equivalent, she replies: "some people really do like it". I point blank look at her and ask: "would you let your boss stay there?". Then I realize, he was the mastermind behind this atrocity. "Nevermind"...he would have been satisfied staying in the outdoor patio furniture section of WalMart.
Never. Ever. Stay there.

This is one silly place - circus-striped rooms, leopard-patterned bathrobes, goldfish waiting for you as you exit the elevator. But the staff is super-friendly (thanks for upgrading us to a suite!) and when we had to check out at midnight to do deal with barfing kids the babysitter couldn't cope with, they comped the valet parking. Room service was absurdly fast and good. A short walk to a lot of good restaurants, as well as the Seattle Art Museum and other egghead locales....

Hotel Monaco was okay. It was nothing extraordinary. I like how the rooms had umbrellas for you to use.
They were also offering free drinks downstairs for their guests when we were there. Not really a place where one would go out of their way to hang out but the service was good and the rooms were comfortable.
Friendly staff, great location, clean building. Ive heard you get the option of having a goldfish in your room to keep you company, but they didnt ask me if i would like one upon check-in. Stepping off the elevator onto my floor is a decorative table, and what is sitting on this table in the hallway? A goldfish :) So i took the bowl into my room and borrowed him(or her) for the night.
Would stay here again.

I am generally a Kimpton hotel fan, but you can do much better by staying at the W across the street.
Sorry Kimpton!
As a Kimpton groupie, I love pretty much all their hotels (though the service at the Prescott in SF recently was mediocre...plus, that hotel is nigh nearing serious need of a renovation). My wife and I have been semi-frequent guests of this hotel over the past couple of years: when we were searching for a place to live in Seattle, when bad plumbing forced us to spend 4 nights here (paid by the landlord), and for a couple of local "vacation" weekends.
Great service, robes that make one look like Fred or Wilma, wine reception, and whimsical decor (I just don't get people who describe it as "kitschy"....they clearly have no idea what that word means).
The restaurant is a 7.5 of 10...good...nowhere near truly noteworthy.
And since several previous reviews have grossly misspelled this, probably because they've never been to New Orleans or are teetotalers, the name is SAZERAC.

Hotel Monaco is a decent enough hotel, the bed was comfy and the in room hot tub was a treat, but it was hard to get over the feeling that I was staying in a Victoria's Secret. Not in a good way. Really. Loud. Stripes. Everywhere. Our Monte Carlo suite had a nice view of.... a brick wall. The service was good and the restaurant staff attentive, but for your money there are better places in Seattle.
Very nice and welcome front desk staff, cool building, good rooms, beds were a little sparse but I slept well. Burger from room service was good, prices not too bad. Very close to a Starbucks, which is always a plus:) The free coffee in the lobby in the am is nice, as is the fact that, unlike mroe and more hotels these days, they have a coffee pot AND decent coffee in the room.

Staying here was one of the best parts of my trip to Seattle. I found a discount rate on their site (Pigs on Parade Celebration - 10% off), and opted for the Mediterranean Suite. The room was beautiful and spacious, and came with little perks like bottled Evian, Belgian chocolates, and free internet access. If you're a AAA member, I think they also offer a 10% discount for that as well.
The staff was super friendly, and even when there were a few minor hiccups with some of my requests, they went out of their way to make sure I was more than satisfied.
The complementary wine and beer hour (5-6pm) is nice, but the kicker of my stay was FREE VALET PARKING FOR HYBRID CARS! The normal cost of valet is $29 per night with in and out privileges. So if you're renting a car, do yourself a favor and upgrade to the hybrid.

Well, this is my first "thanks, Yelp!" moment. I was visiting lovely Seattle, planning to stay with a friend who called last minute to say he had one of those nasty colds that meant we probably shouldn't be sharing a small apartment. I ducked out of my work meeting to try and find a hotel room for under $200 that very night.
My usual go-to spots were also all taken up with the Spring Break/Easter/Sakura-Con crowds. Yelp gives the Monaco good props, so I call and sure enough they have a King for $180. It ends up being a cushy room with a library view and fabulously nice people. Weekend saved!

When I was a frequent business traveler, I would have to go to Seattle a couple times a year. Time after time, I chose the Monaco. I have to say that the Monaco chain has done things right.
*Great rooms--huge, well decorated, comfy beds
*Excellent service--Friendly staff, great room service
*Decent rates--Not cheap but certainly not expensive
This is also in an excellent location and the Dahlia Lounge and Restaurant next door is extremely good.
I would recommend a Hotel Monaco in any city...

I do a lot of traveling for work, and the Monaco Seattle's probably the best hotel I've ever stayed at, within the $200-$400 a night price range.
The boutique hotel is centrally located in Downtown Seattle, and is only a short taxi ride from the waterfront and a million wonderful restaurants -- some nearby fav's include Wasabi Bistro and McCormick's.
The rooms are huge and lush, and the decor throughout the hotel, as well as in your room, is opulent. I love the sexy boudoir feel of the red and cream colored walls, and the curtains which separates the living room from the fun room...
My only caveat: the walls are thinnish, tempting your imagination to run when you hear the thumps and bumps in the night...

For 2 of my mini in-Seattle vacays I've stayed here, and both times I've fallen in love with this hotel. The Kimpton Hotel chain has impeccable taste with decor, and they definitely did not skimp on this hotel! Their valet attendants are very accommodating, their staff knowledgeable with anything and everything "Seattle" (play tourist, it's actually fun!)
Now for the nitty gritty- their food is great! I ordered breakfast of french toast, bacon and eggs, and polished it off with fresh squeezed OJ- it did not taste like "room service" it was actually quite palatable I must say. AND it came in less time than I expected, best for when you have a hangover from the night before.
The threadcount for their bedsheets? Silky smooth and ultra lush! Just amazing!
Their rates are pretty competitive for a boutique hotel $325 a night avg) and if you mention that you've frequented their before they actually may give you an upgrade or free parking.
If you've stayed at the Hotel Monaco Portland (previously 5th Ave. Suites) it's exactly the same layout for rooms/decor.

Yeah Yeah, it's a Kimpton Hotel. It's lavish, whimsical, fun, and Sauzerac is The Spot.
What makes it the best to me are its door people!
These are the coolest guys in town. Treat them well and your car sits majestically in front for however long you need it to. No worries or fuss.
Think about the last time you navigated 4th Ave. Did you want a lobotomy by the time you crossed Marion Street? Suddenly, five stars for my parking buddies doesn't seem too high!

You can drink and then walk your drunk butt down to the peir and have yourself a good meal...or that sushi bar down the street (dammit if I could only remember the name...)
Good times...my hotel of choice in Seattle.

Im a flight attendant and this hotel stood out as one of the best Ive been to because of its quality design details without serious stuffiness, its very whimsical and playful and gave me a happy carefree feeling. it brought out the childlike curiosity and excitement. for a 46 year old that is quite the feat! Its a perfect location and the staff is very fun, professional, helpful and not snooty.

This is where we stay every time we are in Seattle. I have only had one negative experience here, and the hotel sent me free weekend get-away package to make up for it.
The nightly free happy hour is great, and the fortune teller lady is spot on! Every time she talks to us, within about 4 months, everything she said is true..
Plus, I love the fact that dogs are allowed, and we always have a little goldfish in the room to come home to!

I went to Seattle for the first time and stayed at this hotel as I had a business conference to attend. The room was well appointed and very comfortable. Located in the heart of Downtown Seattle made walking to Pike's Market really enjoyable.
Staff was pleasant and accommodated me when I came home "hammered" and went to the wrong floor trying to get my "door" to open. After stammering back down to the lobby, one of the staff remembered my room number and helped me to where I was staying. Kudos for treating the inebriated with respect instead of digust in their face.

Boutique hotel in Dowtown Seattle on the corner of Spring and 4th.
My friend and I stayed here for the weekend and after about three hours our plumbing had clogged. We called in maintenance and within minutes the concierge contacted us and upgraded us to the Monaco Suite which is typically about 100 more. Thanks.
The next day we called the concierge to recommend some dancing hot spots and to our dismay they did not get back to us.
That next afternoon (whilst turning Hotel Monaco onto Yelp), we mentioned to the manager that we indeed left a msg the day before and did not receive a call back and what did he do? We received a complementary bottle of wine for preparation for our evening out on the town. Thanks.
Upon leaving, I very very sadly left my ring in the bathroom. I was gutted over this. It was a very inexpensive black plastic ring with white stripes going horizontal but it is one of my favorite rings which I purchased at an off the beaten melrose path in LA. I called and left a message, no reply. I called again and lo and behold they found it and are shipping it to me pronto.
Maybe they are too busy to call you back but I am still giving this cute dog friendly hotel five stars because, well they rock. Free happy hour daily from 4-6pm as well as half price bar food.

Nice hotel centrally located in the heart of downtown. Contrary to the other yelp reviews, our room, even though it was on the top floor, was pretty small. I definitely enjoyed the Parisian decor and the delicious tea-chocolates. The doormen were not very good at grabbing the doors for the guests- I wasn't impressed with the service.
If/when I come back to Seattle, with the abundance of high-end hotel choices, I don't think I would stay here again. It just wasn't very special.

Hubby and I stayed here our wedding night - absolutely the best nights sleep I've ever gotten. Doesn't help that room service is from Sazerac down stairs!! Who ever thinks of fine dining while in your bathrobe??
Late check-out was available, and if I was a tourist, I would definitely stay there again!

Cute Boutique Hotel with Large Rooms
I loved this hotel from the second I walked in. The staff was very pleasant and always greeted you with a smile when youwalked in anad out of the hotel. This is a Kimpton Hotel, and stands up to the name which are boutique hotels with personal charm. There is a manager's reception in the eve with wine pouring for everyone in a a nice setting. This one also had someone doing chair massages - what more can you ask! I was in RM 1107 (king) and the images online matched the room and I was pleased to finally find a website that has accurtae pictures of the propert. The room was huge for a boutique hotel and any other for that matter. The mini-bar wasn't outrageously priced and I feel I got a better deal for my money than other places I have stayed in Seattle (see my other Seattle reviews). Next time I am in Seattle - I will stay at this hotel. Perfect

The main reason I'd stay at the Monaco again would be easy access to the public library (which is amazing! why can't every city have a library like this?) Also if you're wanting to sport a leopard printed robe while prancing about your room, this is the place to go. It's a little kitschy for my tastes, but I do remember making friends with the valet parking boys at this place.
Also, all Kimpton hotels feature free wine/beer reception in early evening - definitely a plus in my book.

A nice hotel, but we had a little bit of a struggle getting our champagne that accompanied our honeymoon package. After drinking enough at our wedding we decided to wait till morning to order our bottle. We called the front desk and asked for some orange juice and our champagne. A long story short, we had to call three times and go down to the front desk before the orange juice and our bottle arrived. It was a frustrating morning after a wonderful night.
I love hotel Monaco! The staff were all super helpful and nice. We got a sweet deal on their website. The rooms were very clean, very quiet. Great location. Close to Pike Market and all the shopping. Aveda products and a sweet mini bar. I will defiantly stay again. You can even request a goldfish to stay in your room with you.
My son really enjoyed having Paul (the goldfish) there. Our room was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. No major complains. Location close to everything.

We stayed here for 8 nights. We had a quiet room on the third floor, facing the library. Wonderful location, within walking distance of Pioneer Square shopping, the Pike market and the Washington State convention center.
The room was decorated in a semi-French style with prints and funky mismatched furniture. They have 32" HD TVs, but since they don't have HD cable it's kind of a waste.
The Sazerac downstairs is a decent restaurant, but there are better within walking distance. We ordered one room service breakfast and it wasn't worth the price.
Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay someplace "funky" to do touristy things in the city. We would probably stay here again if we come back. FYI if you find a cheaper price on a travel site they will match.

Except for the folks down the hall apparently there for the ganja convention, at least doing their best to smoke Seattle free. Seriously, I would have failed a drug screen by walking down that hall. Other than that, this hotel was pretty much what you'd expect from an expensive, trendy, downtown Seattle hotel. Nice room, including an unexpected turn down service complete with smooth jazz love music, great appointments and view. The staff were friendly and helpful. Anyway if you want to stay downtown and have some cash to burn, I suggest you check them out!
