Nestled in the Mission District of San Francisco is a delightful bed & breakfast. Wait. Let's back-up. Did I say the "Mission District"? Yes I did.
Wait. Let's back-up again. Did I use the word "delightful" with the "Mission District"? I did. I did indeed. *Quietly ponders the import of such a statement, shakes off the momentary confusion*
SET-UP
Moving on, Hotel Mirabelle is a decent relatively inexpensive hotel option in San Francisco that is located right on top of mass transit options and just a few minutes walk away from many of the best little eateries, and not an entirely unpleasant mid-eve's walk to some of my most favorite clubs @ 11th & Harrison Streets (I'm looking at you, DNA Lounge!)
Later in the wee hours of morning, it's just a quick cab ride back, but just make sure you get up early enough to catch the breakfast at the 8 o'clock hour (even if you crashed just a few hours before) but then just crash again for another few if you have a 12 noon checkout.

Scary. Smelly. Small.
Unorganized. Unsanitary. Underwhelming.
I always truly think that you get what you pay for.
In this case, it was a room with the smell of old, unwashed hair permeating the very air. And why do the bathrooms HAVE to smell like urine? Or worse, port-a-potty?
The landlady, who was confused in every which way, gave us a dirty room and told us after we checked out that she had made a mistake in giving us the wrong room. A little too late lady. We slept in our camping gear and still felt dirty in the morning.
So I say, proceed with caution. -

Really loved this place!
It is very charming, well located, the rates are very reasonable and you can feel that the owners enjoyed decorating the place and make it very welcoming and comfortable for the guests. My husband and I are looking forward to staying there again on our next trip to San Francisco! -

Clean and comfortable is all I ask and Hotel Mirabelle did not let me down. This hotel is also a block away from a Bart station, so it's very convenient. The daily continental breakfast was more than I expected. Tea, coffee, juice, baked goods and fresh fruit were available along with some sort of protein such as low fat yoghurt one day and whitefish spread the next. For what we paid for a night's stay, this hotel is a good deal.
As for the ambiance it has a great patio. The room was small but adequate. The downside: this is an old building so it has that "old smell". The lighting wasn't great. It's dark inside. -

I'm a caregiver for a friend who is one of the guests experiencing bedbug infestations at the Hotel Mirabelle. My friend reported that we had found a bedbug in her closet on Nov. 24th, 2010, and immediately faced open hostility from the hotel's staff and a threatening letter from some fly-by-night attorney who should know better. This is unsurprising--my own daughter had the much the same experience when she stayed at the hotel during her visit here last March.
The owner's promised pest inspection--by a "professional" who didn't even have a can of bug spray--didn't occur until until Dec. 13th, 2010. At that time, the "professional" inspected ONLY my friend's room, and reported no bedbugs were to be found.
Perhaps he might have cared to conduct a more thorough inspection, because on Dec. 16th, 2010 the Inspector from the SF Dept. of Public Health's Environmental Health Services found two rather frisky specimens in his first few minutes in my friend's room... before he began his rigorous inspection in earnest.
Long story short, the Hotel Mirabelle now has some issues needing attention before the Health Dept. is satisfied. It's probably safe to say that anyone considering a stay here might want to inquire if corrective actions have been completed before their planned visit.
The larger issue here is twofold:
1) The hotel's owners need to abandon their current practice of voodoo pest control (cedar oil? REALLY??) and come into compliance with the Health Dept's best practices for bedbug abatement. It's a standard of care the hotel's guests rightfully should expect.
2) The practice of the owners and staff feeling empowered to display naked contempt for guests who report problems and/or deficiencies at the hotel makes no real sense for anyone trying to turn a profit in a niche business like this. In fact, retaliatory actions in this context are illegal under California law... just check out the CA Dept of Fair Employment and Housing's website to learn more. -

I have lived here for over a year. All is good until you report bedbugs to Sharon, the owner.
I have watched her and her husband harrass, annoy, and evict guests and tenants who compain and request action. She has personnally said ugly horrible things about the tenants here, if they demand correct actions be placed. When I reqested she follow the best practices mandated by the S. F. Dept. Of Health, she refused, and insisted her treatment with cedar oil was suffecent. If it woks so well, why have the same rooms been treated MULTIPLE times, and still come up infested?
Why does she keep renting out rooms without hiring professionals?
This can be a really awesome place to stay- Just be sure that the Dept of Health environmental health unit has passed the place 1st!!!! -
Review from Rahil P.
I spent the nights of my first week in San Francisco at this Hotel, and I don't regret it.
I had planned to move to San Francisco from Virginia (you don't need me to list the reasons why). I wasn't able to secure a room in an apartment from home, so I decided to stay at a motel for a short period of time, until I could find a sublease.
I arrived at the front door of the hotel. It was locked. I called them. They told me to go around to the side, revealing an inconspicuous fence door. I had to wait around 10 minutes until the caretaker opened it. I spent some of my first few minutes in SF watching bums go by. I wasn't scared of being in the ghetto Mission, but do remember I come from a suburb, so this wasn't the easiest transition.
I had to take two trips to bring my bags up the narrow staircase. This is when I encountered THE SMELL. It's probably some natural cleaner, but it's very pungent and lasted the entire week. You get used to it after you're in your room for some time, but every time I entered the hotel, that smell blasted my nostrils. Maybe you can tolerate it, but this was my largest gripe.
The caretaker gave me a tour of the hotel, showing me where everything is, stalling until the owner came back. When the owner came back, I was told the room was still being cleaned and to leave my bags in the laundry room and wait 40 minutes until it was ready. Being cautious, I took my most expensive things (laptop) in my backpack and went out to eat. When I got back, I couldn't get my key to work. Turned out it was just finicky and required some knowledge to get it to work. Finally, I had a room.
The entire hotel is, uh, very San Francisco-esque. The hand-me-down artsy, homey decor makes you glad you didn't stay at a hotel in Downtown. There were only 5 employees, so you experience a small business feel too.
There's a great amount of amenities for a $46/night room: mini-fridge, microwave, continental breakfast, and a TV with amazing channels--I saw a great documentary on pbs and some 80s cartoons on another channel. There's four half-bathrooms that are shared (for each floor?), two with a toilet, two with a shower.
The location is quite convenient too. 16th and Mission is a block away, where you can take BART to get to Downtown, take the 33 to the Richmond, and the 22 or 49 through the center of the city. Oh, and of course you're IN the Mission!
The rest of the stay was problem-free. It made up for the initial problems. You're not allowed to stay longer than two(?) weeks; gladly I found a sublease in one.
I learned a lot during my stay, transitioning from suburb to city life. Throwing myself into the Mission turned out to be a great introduction to SF. If you've got some guts, want to feel the city, this hotel is a fantastic choice. -

Great place! Sharon and Richard were friendly, helpful, and always willing to assist you within a moments notice. I stayed for 4 nights while visiting my son in San Francisco. I was within walking distance of quaint coffee shops, and had access to all the public transportation. Hard to believe there are about 30 rooms here! I never heard a peep from any surrounding room although the house was full. A very nice continental breakfast awaits at 7am. Showers and bathrooms were clean and always available for use, no waiting! Every room is decorated in a different decor. The outdoor patio was a great place to unwind after a long day and it gave you a chance to meet the other people staying at Hotel Mirabelle.
And what a great price!!!! I will definately stay there again. -

Okay, so we didn't stay here, BUT, we were desperate for a place to keep our luggage before our red eye flight. The hotel staff were AWESOME and so helpful to let us keep our stuff there. We got to check out the hotel, VERY cute and has a nice mix of trendiness and Victorian style flare going on. Everything looked really clean and the rates seemed really reasonable for the location and amenities. It seems like the staff is really eager to please and that's certainly a good good thing. I hope I am lucky enough to go back to SF and if I do, we will for sure consider this place!

Review from Debby L.
This is not a fancy hotel nor a small boutique hotel. It's a combination of a hostel/inn/bed n breakfast all in one. It's a very small place in the Mission, so don't expect much!
For backpackers and minimalist travelers, this is a great place to crash for really cheap and clean as well.
For $45 bucks a night, we got a small room with a double bed, a small fridge, microwave, and sink. The room itself isn't bad at all. The bed is comfy and clean, the small fridge is handy, and the sink is enough to get ready with.
There is a little breakfast nook at the end of the hallway and bookshelves everywhere for you to trade in your reading.
The reason for the lost star is the parking.
There is just street parking, which they failed to warn is only ONE HOUR parking and METER! So you have to go to the meter and fill it every hour during the day until 6 pm! We drove around and we lucky enough to score some residential parking about a block and half away. Since we were only staying one night, we decided to have our friends pick us up rather than loose the parking spot.
There are Public Lots nearby as well but it is not certain that they are open throughout the night. They charge $8-10.
Also, upon arrival, they did not tell us to use the side door to get in. We couldn't get in through the front door, so I had to call the hotel, and he THEN decided to tell me that i needed to ring the SIDE door where deliveries were made. This is right after I JUST talked to him on the phone about check in and he couldn't bother to mention this? We walked around the other side of the building and were finally let into the building complex. We crashed afterwards.
There are NO elevators. Be prepared to lug your luggage up 2-3 flights of narrow stairs.
A bakery and cafe is across the street if you decide to eat out in the morning, and a Burmese/Chinese place is down the street. I heard they have great spring rolls.Listed in: SAN FRANCISCO

Well well well....this place certainly did NOT let me down.
I stayed here this past weekend while in town for the boyfriends birthday and i must say, we are impressed.
Not only was the staff friendly and very welcoming but the neighborhood is perfectly located close to EVERYTHING.
From the moment we walked in, we knew this was going to be a great experience. The decor is very warm and welcoming...so much charm and just such a homey feeling to this place.
The other tenants in the building were absolutely pleasant and very friendly.
I will most defenitely stay here again soon.
Room, bathrooms, and showers were well maintained (which is super important to me)
They say the neighborhood is not so great but i really had no problems. Everything is well lit and its so busy with people most of the time so if something WERE to happen, there are people around.lol.
I can not wait to come back to San Fran.
Great job! -

Sharon and Richard are great people and the hotel is a charming one to say the least. It has a very fun twist for the francophile at heart, and has feel to it that is all its own. I would recommend it to anyone and already have. It's an affordable, centrally located hotel/B&B that offers respite in the center of some of the most colorful parts of life that SF can offer. If you're a smart traveller, and open to new expressions of life within the Mission neighborhood, this unique abode is the perfect place to see it all.
They care about what they do, they enjoy meeting those that have traveled both far and near, and they take the time to try and figure out the best possible solutions to any issue that you have.
They were great to me and I was lucky to have the opportunity to stay there. For without them, I never would have had a chance to live in the city, find a home to call my own and just "live"! :) -

There was so much to like about this place that I feel really bad about giving it one star. It's cheap, it's near my brother's place and the BART and my favorite San Francisco pizza, the heart of the Mission is a hop skip and jump away, the decor is cute, and breakfast every morning was awesome. Yeah, the street noise was annoying, but that's what earplugs are for.
Why one star? The bedbugs. My husband and I were both bitten during our stay over Thanksgiving 2010, and while it was a minor irritant for me, he had a major reaction necessitating a doctor's visit. That's not the hotel's fault, but other reviews here show that the owners were aware of the problem and were taking indifferent measures at best to solve it. I know that bedbugs are extremely hard to get rid of and a growing problem in cities across the U.S. That is no excuse for not taking standard measures such as wrapping the mattress, or using effective pest control treatments (cedar oil is not an effective pest control treatment).
From some of the other reviews here, it sounds like this problem may have been effectively addressed. I hope so because it really is a great hotel otherwise and it was a real shame to have our stay marred by bedbugs. If you decide to stay there, inspect your room closely for signs of infestation. -

This place is awesome! I'm dropping 5 stars only because I can't give 6.. or 10. Everyone there is extra sweet and friendly, and we will definitely return. Staying at Mirabelle really made our San Francisco experience memorable. Hang out for cocktail hour on the patio and get to know the locals, enjoy breakfast upstairs, and enjoy this unique place. It's comfortable and homey, and filled with stories and life. My gf and I stayed there for 4 nights, and will definitely return.
About the neighborhood -- it's not so bad. I didn't feel unsafe at any time there. It's important to understand this is a boarding house and not a hotel, so the restrooms/showers are shared, but this should not be a deterrent unless you're traveling with a large family. On the plus side, you won't have to deal with any large families here. -

Houston, TX
Charming guesthouse for its relatively inexpensive price. The owners, Sharon and Richard, were very accommodating and attentive. Enjoyed the breakfasts -- lots of fresh fruits. Sunday breakfasts were extra special. I came here at first a bit worried about the "bed bug" scare by some reviews below, but never had a problem at all. I liked my room and the amenities. The hotel proximity to BART surely helps. Place is kept tidy as well.
The tenants, for the most part, were also very friendly. But it's best to always remain guarded since I had an issue with one of them. Sharon and Richard came to my rescue and totally handled that situation excellently. If you're a very light sleeper, you may request a quiet room. The slight noise is understandable though. San Francisco's a crowded city after all. Place is secure.
I would definitely come back, and I also booked another week for my roommate. -

I put the boyfriend and I up here for the first week of his visit. I highly recommend this place to anyone on a budget that wants to visit SF and be centrally located.
Of course, you also need to be down with homeless, crackheads and thug life too. I'z street like dat tho' so we coo' homie.
Unfortunately, my boyfriend is not quite "street like dat'" so he wasn't as coo' with the neighborhood "character". Nonetheless, the hotel is gorgeous. Communal clean bathrooms that I never found a wait for, a whimsically and historically decorated interior, cozy and well equipped rooms, adorable back patio deck and lots of quiet make this the deal of the century. I mean a SUPER deal. For $399 (including hotel tax of 14%) we had one of the bigger and nicer rooms on the third floor. You can't beat that deal although it IS cash-pay only. I highly, highly recommend it! -

I would like to first off preface this review with a fact. This is a San Francisco style hotel located in the Mission. Many parts of SF can seem sketchy to an outsider, so be prepared to pass street people daily and get asked for change. Also, don't expect your typical hotel service here. This space is owned and operated locally so if you're expecting to be pampered by the staff with warm towels hourly, you should look elsewhere. This is more like a residence than a hotel, you are expected to clean up your own messes.
I am an SF resident who found myself between houses and needed time to find a new place. My experience at The Hotel Mirabelle will stand as one of my most positive living arrangements in The City. The rooms are incredibly nice with comfortable beds. It is unfathomably quiet at all times inside most rooms.
The only reason I am going with 4 stars is out of the hotels control. One of the rooms windows is next to a building housing the real life child of satan. If you have stayed in this room, you know the child I am speaking of. He screams and cries constantly and the parents obviously don't care. This is not IN the hotel, but it did affect my overall stay.
The location is about the best in the city as far as public transit goes, with easy access to BART and MUNI.
The best thing about Hotel Mirabelle has to be the people. Somehow, they tend to only have nice, sociable folks staying here. Over my two weeks I have made many new friends which will last over time.
For someone looking for a cozy place to stay for a few days to a few weeks, I would highly recommend the Mirabelle. Prices are extremely reasonable for the city. They even provide free brunch on Sat and Sun! -
Review from Deyon H.
Placerville, CA
The staff at the hotel was very friendly, and it was conveniently located next to the bart station and restaurants. The price was right. Shared bathrooms, but that was not a problem. The only thing wrong with this hotel is the neighbors. The family that lives next to the hotel had their windows open and was fighting all night. I didn't get any sleep. It started with a crying baby at two in the morning. These things happen, babies cry. But then as soon as I fell asleep, Yelling and screaming. I asked them more than once to be quiet, let them know I was trying to sleep. This must have made her even more mad. I would have returned to the Hotel Mirabelle for a new convenient stay when I am in town, but this is a problem they need to address first.

Review from Tiana B.
San Francisco, CA
This hotel is so charming and doesn't pretend to be something that it is not. It's a bit confusing when you arrive since the front door is locked and you cannot just walk in as you are able to at most hotels. The staff is sweet, friendly and accommodating, but there is no one at a "front desk" 24 hours. They do let you know what rooms the staff are in for emergencies or important questions after hours...but it's pretty self-service. You are given a key to the front door of the hotel and a key to your room so you may come and go as you please.
You won't find anything in this price range that is superior to the Hotel Mirabelle! We paid $60 to stay in the Picasso Room, which had big bay windows and was very spacious. There was a mini fridge inside which we used to chill our wine. The bathrooms are down the hall, and are shared, but this didn't bother me as they are very clean and each room comes with it's own sink and mirror. There were also two bathrobes hanging on hooks on the back of the door for nighttime trips to the bathroom. The only thing that i found myself needing and couldn't find that most hotels supply was an iron.
The whole hotel is well-kept and has an incredible amount of charm. There is lots of art on the walls, and everywhere you turn there are interesting things to look at. I would advise bringing rubber flip flops for the shared showers. I would also be careful coming up and down the stairs, especially after a drink or two as they are tiny, steep and windy.
All in all, a wonderful place to stay! -
Review from Karen B.
Tehama, CA
I really enjoyed my week-long stay at Hotel Mirabelle. As the other reviewers say, it's not fancy or upscale, but I doubt you could do better for the price. I paid $270 for six nights, including the hotel tax. I took one of the smaller rooms not shown on their website, the "Wine and Roses" room on the third floor. Everybody was friendly -- Sharon provided a lovely continental breakfast every morning. I enjoyed sitting in the breakfast room overlooking Mission St., and the back "porch" was a nice place to hang out, too. Once I made myself at home, I could get tea to microwave, or a plate and fork to reheat one of those enormous burritos from Los Coyotes. But Label was glad to help me out if I needed it, and he always remembered my name! The bathrooms and showers at the end of the hall are kept clean, and I never had a wait.
It loses a star for the outside noise -- the hotel itself is quiet, but you can hear music and voices from the neighboring building, and even the BART trains from a block away. Except for this, the neighborhood didn't bother me. The Mission district struck me as being more funky and colorful than "sketchy" -- although I heeded advice to avoid going out on the streets at night.
Also, newcomers should realize that the front door is kept locked. You need to go around to the side, 1625 15th St., and ring the bell, and give Sharon or Label time to get down the winding Victorian staircase.
But all-in-all it made me a wonderful home away from home for my visit to San Francisco. -

PROs:
Price: Can't beat $75 for one night!
Decor: Rooms are small but super-cute!
Location: Yes, it's kind of in the ghetto (I feel comfortable saying that because I grew up in the real-life ghetto), but I felt safe walking around at night with my boyfriend. Without him, probably not. It's only ONE BLOCK from the Bart. That's amazing. For late-night eating, walk down 16th street for lots of taquerias and Mediterranean places that are still open. 16th street
Fridge and Microwave: They're small, cute, and clean. Great for storing that late-night kebob wrap I bought on 16th street.
CONS:
Noise: At Sunday morning around 8 am, a car stopped right under our window and blasted "You's a ho". Surely he was on his way to church. Street noises like this are the norm during your stay. -

San Francisco, CA
It a great deal, clean, close to public transit and private.
The staff respected my privacy. I never enjoyed the bed and breakfast experience where I felt like I was staying in a stranger's home using their bathroom. When I requested something the staff responded quickly.
You get a number of little extras what are really nice like a library of good books, the San Francisco Chronicle and the New York Times in the sitting room for everyone to share, a nice deck in the back. The free brunch on Saturdays and Sundays gave me the option of meeting me neighbors or bringing a cup of coffee, a pastry or cereal back to my room to enjoy while reading under the covers.
The only thing I missed was cable television -- the rooms have digital converter boxes and the reception isn't always the best. -

Heeding the advice of a local friend, Mrs. N. and I made this our home base for 5 nights in beautiful San Fransisco, and we can't thank him enough! Refreshingly homey digs for the traveler who would rather crash at a friends house than any uber spendy mega-tel. As convienient as (and WAY cooler than) the airport hilton, Hotel Mirabelle is only a block from the BART station 16th/Mission. Baggage claim to front desk=35 min.
Ammenities (tangible):
1: each uniquely decorated room contains a comfy bed, furniture to unpack into, hand-sink & mirror, dorm fridge and microwave, tv with the first digital converter box i've ever seen, and a robe & towel for each occupant.
2: super clean toilets and shower stalls (2 of each per floor) for which we never suffered a wait.
3: casual (pj's acceptable) continental breakfast on sat & sun that late risers like me don't miss out on. it's GOOD too; fresh fruits, breads, spreads, juice, coffee, and whatever other random treats they have to share.
4: full service salon ("au courant") located right downstairs, which also displays the work of many talented local artists.
Intangibles:
1: local color. Long term residents we met were so friendly and helpful. We suggest spending some leisure time on the communal back patio. Say hi to Rosco the dog for us.
2: location. This may not be the fanciest part of town, but we never felt in any way unsafe. There's an awesome coffee shop right across the street and convienience mart a few doors down. Around the corner up 16th st, there's all kinds of good eats, and public transpo is never far away.
3: value. I don't want to stay someplace glitzy and expensive when I visit a new city just to say I stayed there. I prefer to stay someplace cool and interesting, like Hotel Mirabelle, where my lodgings expense doesn't eat up so much of my fun$.
We now know where to stay when we visit San Fran again. -

3 friends and I stayed here for a little less than a week. We got two rooms, a "big" room and a "small" room. None of the rooms are very big at all, but they are all clean and cute. My major complaint is the lack of proper curtains and just sheers up so you get a blinding light in your eye at the crack of dawn. We ended up putting a blanket in the window.
Bathrooms are at the end of the hall, which were fine. We stayed at the opposite end of the hall, which made it a pain in the ass for nightly trips. But not a huge deal.
The Hotel is an old building, with 3 floors. It has a really nice homey feel, and is well taken care of. It's creaky and squeaky and instead of that typical hotel smell, it kind of smells like grandma's house. There are security cameras on each floor, which is nice considering what is outside. The owner is on top of things and doesn't allow trouble makers or illegal activity in the hotel. He's an older guy, really nice. The entire place was surprisingly really quiet and I rarely saw other guests.
The place itself is in a very bad part of town, so know that before you come. It's pretty ghetto and you'll be hearing police activity and yelling during the night. However, it is a block away from a Bart station and 2 blocks away from a parking garage (which is where I kept my car every night, no WAY would I leave it on the street there). There is also a Walgreens across the street, which is handy.
The only reason I'm taking a star off is because the price that was agreed upon when I made the reservation, and the total he charged us at the end was higher. So if you stay here, make sure you keep EVERYTHING that is written and especially the quoted rates, since they change. But the price can't be beat for somewhere to stay in the city. -

I just moved to San Francisco with my fiance and decided to stay here until we get settled. I am so happy with my choice. Not only is this hotel charming, adorable and everything you hope it's going to be...the people there are so inviting. From conversations on the deck to having wine and cheese on friday nights. So much fun and the best deal EVER! Pretty awesome.
The only con... parking is a nightmare! Then again... EVERYWHERE in SF parking is horrible. If you are driving up to stay here...make sure you bring quarters! :) WE got the hang of it after 3 days and 2 parking tickets. -

Ok if you do a drive by of the place you would either not notice it was there or decide not to stay there based on the "lively" location. Don't let that fool you, this place inside is great. Rooms are VERY clean and the bathroom/showers are new and also very clean.
As of now the TVs do not have cable, but you get 7 local channels. I never heard anyone in the hallway, there was little outside noise.
Pro- Clean, little noise, comfortable rooms, cheap, mission is a great place to go out in.
Con- No iron (I am prob the only person there that needed it), no cable (again I am prob the only person that would have liked it).
So basically, this place is great and for the price you can't go wrong. -

I should lead with the only thing negative about this place....if you can hang with the neighborhood you are golden, I wouldn't like to walk around alone at night around here.
With that stated, the owners to this place were so kind and genuinely warm towards welcoming new travelers to their hotel. This is a cute, clean, classic novelty hotel with antique appeal to it. The rooms are all themed and had plenty of unique decor. They offer snacks all day long with breakfast specials on some days. The owners told us of all the local shops to visit, food to try, and even suggested bars and other attractions which with a one day stay were hard to find and cover all of them. This is the type of hotel which has a community bathroom and they ask that you wear a bathrobe at all times while going to and from the bathroom. I asked about shower shoes and the manager just said to me what size are you? He returned to me ten minutes later with freshly bought sandals from Walgreens. Don't get me wrong this is NO fancy high class hotel it is a cute novelty little hotel with character!!! Their regulars are a little interesting to say the least.
I have to say they care and it shows. I would stay there again since it is just one block from a BART station and it is low enough cost to warrant the two BART station travel to the nicer part of SF. I will be back....maybe for SF Marathon. -

We chose the Mirabelle for its proximity to the Mission and its price and booked two nights during Carnivale weekend. It's in a pretty sketchy part of town, but we love the Mission and knew that going in.
The first thing we noticed as we climbed the stairs was the sour, old-folks-home smell, the threadbare carpet and the greasy fingerprint-covered walls. Uh oh. The owner showed us to our tiny room, whose window was three feet from another window in the adjacent building. Then he showed us the bathrooms-- ugh. Poorly-ventilated and needed a good scrubbing. But we decided to try and make it work, as finding another hotel would cut into the evening's fun time.
That night we hardly slept, due to the neighbors next door--TV blaring, hootin' and hollerin' til past 2 am. The next day we called the San Remo and luckily they had a room.
The owners of the Mirabelle are real sweet. If it weren't for them, I'd have given the place two stars. -

I've been staying at Mirabelle Hotel for nearly a month, and I'm enjoying an utterly *wonderful* experience here! I was originally placed in a two-bed room (as it was the only one available when I checked in without a reservation) and was soon moved to a single abode down the hall. After I returned from a holiday trip to the East Coast, I was placed in another room. Point being: Each pad was unique (every room has a theme), spotlessly clean, cozy and comfortable; all three met my every need - while managing to make me smile and feel at home each time I came in the door.
The owners, Sharon and Richard, live on-site, and I've found them to be warm, friendly and eager to help/please. The hotel manager, Lisa, has bent over backwards to accommodate me from my first night here - I've never encountered a more patient, flexible, effective guest-service provider. Seriously.
The stellar staff and the fact that it's a "green" establishment - coupled with a great continental breakfast every morning, fresh towels daily, eclectic decorations/art adorning every inch of wall space (creating a very home-like ambiance, along with parlors full of books, magazines and music), a lovely, relaxing back deck, room-cleaning service throughout the week (if desired), and a solid wi-fi/cable set-up - makes this hotel an absolute Steal for the price! I am so glad I found this place - it has totally *made* my San Francisco experience so far, and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, convenient, safe, and clean place to stay in the city.
P.S. - I've seen one reviewer and her associates rail about a pest infestation at the Mirabelle. I can only speak for myself, but I have no idea where that allegation is coming from - and I've chatted with a number of other guests about how nice the hotel/their rooms are. Bed bugs and the like have yet to come up as a point of concern - ever. Personally, I have not seen anything to indicate such a problem. Just sayin'. -

This place is cheap and cozy, felt like home.
The staff was super friendly and helpful. My boyfriend and I had trouble finding parking around the place so we parked in this random lot. As soon as we checked in we asked were we could park they offered to move their car that was right in front of the hotel for us! They were very helpful when we were asking about the city, and the people who stayed there are friendly.
The only problem I had was the smell of dog piss in my room. I had the sun room and it smelled like my old apartment when my puppy didn't know how to the the outside world as his potty. At first you'll notice it, but soon get used to it. Not that bad. If it wasn't for the smell I would have given this place 5 stars.
When I go back to San Francisco I am definitely staying at hotel mirabelle. -

I'm giving Hotel Mirabelle a four because I would stay there again, but that doesn't come without a caveat or two.
First the pros..
It's very affordable. We stayed in one of the "small" rooms for five nights, and I believe our total worked out to between $40-50 per night. Renting by the week is a good way to reduce your costs. The room was clean and well decorated with personal touches. The shared bathrooms (two toilets and two showers, each behind it's own lockable door for privacy) were clean and there was never a wait. We were glad to have a sink and mirror in our room, for face-washing and tooth-brushing, which probably cuts down on the shared bathroom traffic. Having a mini-fridge and microwave in the room was super handy.
The hotel is conveniently located to shops, restaurants and bars on Valencia a block and a half away. There is a bus stop very nearby as well, if you want to visit the Haight or the Castro. They are big on recycling, which is nice to see. There is no smoking allowed inside (which I appreciated), but there's a lovely back deck where smokers can go if they want. It's also very gay friendly.
Now for the cons...
Much like another reviewer, I live in a somewhat sketchy part of town. There are plenty of homeless and non-homeless folks loitering in front of one abandoned storefront after another on my walk home each night, and I'm used to it. Even so, emerging from the BART station at 16th and Mission and walking to Hotel Mirabelle made my wife and I question going to dinner. We really weren't sure if it would be safe to leave after dark. Be prepared for that. I felt safe IN the hotel, just not too comfy in the neighborhood.
It smells kind of odd inside, like maybe there's a cat living there? I like cats, but each time we entered we noticed it and it was a tad gross.
The vibe between staff and guests seemed odd. This place has the decor and feel of a bed & breakfast, with the word "hotel" in the title, and a staff that gives off a feeling of "we don't want to see or hear you, so please don't talk to us." I had an odd encounter with a staff member after making a simple request (I asked if there was a spoon I could borrow - since I know that they serve breakfast on weekends). One staff member snapped that I couldn't use THAT spoon because it was his personal spoon, and the other one made a phone call to someone else and said "some lady is asking for a spoon". Weirdness all around. Maybe I'm biased because I work in customer service and have a very high standard.
As others have mentioned, it's also loud. Each morning we awoke to the sound of a guy somewhere (upstairs maybe?) showering, and coughing up phlegm, while the BART screeched underground. We also didn't have a screen in our window, which bothered me a little when we wanted some air.
Despite all of these oddities, I would stay there again. I wouldn't spend much more to stay there, but at that price it's worth a few small sacrifices. -

I've found my new spot when I visit San Fran! I really fell in love with the Hotel Mirabelle. The staff is really nice and accommodating. I arrived into town earlier than I expected and they let me check in before the normal time. I walked into the building and a nice man named Esteban opened up my room. It was so cute and perfect. Nothing fancy but very comfortable. Yes, the bathrooms and showers are down the hall but that really wasn't a problem for me. There's a sink in the room for brushing your teeth, etc. And they left me a robe on the back of the door! The continental breakfast was right next door. Very nice people staying there. And the wireless internet worked very well. Very peaceful and quiet. Okay...yes, it gets loud at night. The Mission is pretty crazy once the sun goes down. But I had to help a friend find a taxi at 2 in the morning and neither of us feared for our safety or anything like that.
And, yes, it's right next door to the BART station which made going to/coming from the airport very easy. And I found myself in walking distance from my destinations.
Very inexpensive, very simple, very nice.
My only small complaint was, yes, it does smell a bit like kitty litter when you walk in the door. But I mentioned it to Michael, the very nice man who answers the phone, and he said they'd look into it. -

Our experience at Hotel Mirabelle was great! We paid $63 including all fees to stay for one Friday night. What a price for a hotel in downtown San Francisco! The house is very well decorated and well maintained. It is a very fun experience - a lot of culture if you are willing to sacrifice some "luxuries", such as having a private bathroom and a HUGE room.
The manager running the hotel was very helpful in allowing us to park our car on the street near the hotel since we had to leave at 5am, and the nearest parking lot got locked between 10pm and 8am. He was also very accomadating to let me store my bicycle.
Indeed an awesome experience. I would love to spend a long weekend in this hotel as a mini "stay-cation" - maybe next year! -

Just checked in and can't believe how cute this place is....like I almost don't want to write this review because then other people will know how wonderful Hotel Mirabelle is...
Putting selfishness aside, and out of respect to this eclectic, welcoming, delightful, well-run independently-run hotel...Wow! I would easily give Hotel Mirabelle warm recommendation for visiting friends & family...
Rooms are decorated with different themes; sunny, clean, bright, did i mention clean!?!..and inexpensive...$300/week plus a refundable $25 deposit for your key.
European hotel style bathrooms (meaning shared, it's a short jaunt down the hall for showers & toilets) but they are cleaned 2x a day and are really, really clean. Rooms have a small fridge & a micro, free Wi-Fi, antique furnishings and cozy bedding.
I could go on mentioning details, but will leave the rest for you to discover when you stay at Hotel Mirabelle! -

I should start by saying that this hotel was not really that bad. It was nice having a small private room. The refrigerator and microwave were nice, the sink was handy, and the staff were very nice and helpful, most of the time. I wasn't thrilled that my room looked out onto a breeze way but I could live with it.
Now the problems, the neighbors are sometimes loud, which is alright during the day but it sometimes continues into the night.
The main problem I had was with the bedbugs. Now, when I first noticed that I had been bitten (and bitten bad I had over 13 bites on my right hand alone) I went to them and told them what happened and I wasn't mad, bedbugs are very good at hitchhiking. So they changed the sheets looked at the picture frames and vacuumed a little under the bed. They also sprayed some stuff. Now here is where they first went wrong, they washed the sheets, but not my clothes which were sitting at the foot of the bed I was left to do that on my own. I am also fairly sure they didn't change the mattress or even put a plastic cover on it. Then less then a week latter when I went back to them with more (but admittedly less) bites, they just changed the sheets and vacuumed a bit. The biting did not stop, and by the end of my stay I was convinced that there was nothing they could or would do to help. They didn't even move me to a different room, the only help I got was a sprayer full of cedar oil. When I moved out they didn't offer me any advice on how to avoid carrying the pests, and they didn't offer to wash my clothes, or pay for the clothes washing. I am now terrified that despite my best efforts to contain any possible contamination I may have carried the bugs with me. I think that the bedbugs could have been avoided if they vacuumed the carpet more for starts, I mean it was clearly dirty, and after looking around under the furniture for my things I found a lot of crap that was left over from previous guests that should have been removed. What I think is most terrible is that when I was moving out they seemed to indicate to me that they planed to move someone else in to the room latter that day, when in reality they should have gone in to that room with more extreme measures.
I would have given them higher ratings but this is a serious problem I had for most of my stay. Oh, and except when I complained my room was not cleaned. -

A friend and I decided to have a quick stay in San Francisco and my husband booked us this great bed and breakfast! The rooms were quaint and cozy and very clean. Bathrooms are shared with those on your floor but were always in perfect condition. The location is a little off to the way side but still so easy to get where you want to go in no time. We really enjoyed our stay at night in our comfy beds and the quiet neighborhood. There is nothing better than to wake up to coffee, pastries, yogurt and fruit. Perfect start to the day out on the patio with some yummy provisions to get you going on your sightseeing and shopping ventures. San Francisco always delivers and Hotel Mirabelle adds to the experience. An extra bonus is the money you save with the great rates!!

My entire band could not have had a better San Francisco experience thanks to Sharon, at Hotel Mirabelle. She gracefully accommodated all our late night bantering and debauchery, and made us feel totally welcome and loved. She even mailed us items we left behind! Breakfast was awesome, and the bohemian atmosphere and guests made the experience unforgettable. I highly recommend the "Sun Room"- it is charming, victorian, and overlooks Mission St. The bart is super close, but there is parking available for those with tour buses :). I cannot praise this place enough, it was such luck finding it!

My husband found this little gem of a hotel online and suggested it for the SF leg of our trip (we made the obligatory East Bay--Berkeley-Oakland visit to friends and family first). I was a little concerned after reading reviews cautioning about the neighborhood--we were traveling with our 2 children, after all. But my fears were dispelled upon coming here--the neighborhood presents a mix not unlike my own back in LA--primarily Latino, working class, rubbing elbows with young white hipster types. Didn't seem sketchy to me, and I wasn't worried about our safety.
Like the other reviewers, I was charmed by this place--such a refreshing change from the usual corporate sterility of a Hilton or other chain. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, and the parlor areas loaded with a fun variety of magazines and books (from Oprah to Proust's A La Recherche du Temps Perdu). Our room was clean and sweet, and we all had an excellent stay.
I hope to return to the Mirabelle on my next visit. -

Wow $275 a week. I paid more for a single night last time I needed a Hotel. My Niece was in town and needed a room. This place is a Restored Victorian rooming house. Fully furnished with fridge and Microwave. The room had a great street view and was filled with antiques. I felt like I wanted to move in permanently. Friendly and very clean. At this time its Cash only but they expect to take CC cards soon.
