66 reviews for Hotel Lucia
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Lucia is as good as it gets in Portland, Oregon.
On a business trip last month, traveling with a company colleague, we needed to be close to our various clients/appointments and we chose Lucia. We were not disappointed.
We upgraded to one of the suites which would give us more room for any work we had to do within the hotel prior to our meetings. This worked out quite well. However, the bathroom was quite small - nonetheless we managed. And the hotel has a small gym which we both appreciated very much. We were also very impressed with the significant presence of art (paintings, photographs, etc) in the public areas of the hotel (lobby, etc). Lucia is the essence of a high-end boutique hotel.
Nearby great eateries include El Gaucho and Jakes at The Governor Hotel which we took-on on several evenings. Great ambiance, great service and the opportunity to have bar-talk with other business travelers.
I really wanted to visit the REI store in Portland. The front desk staff was most kind to arrange for a sedan to take me there and back. How cool! And I was able to shop and make purchases at REI for about an hour with the driver waiting for me at my beck and call. Thanks Lucia!
There are alot of nice hotels in Portland downtown. This is definately one of them. It was recomended and also on the Air Canada site and the Portland tourist site. I booked it with Air Canada which was simple and easily done online (also the other sites said there was no room, but there was a room on the Air Canada site (a rare Kudo's goes out to AC for this which doesn't quite make up for the lousy flight service and planes that don't fly). I'm never sure if this is a good thing booking things online, but when I got there. It was all done and the room was ready. The lobby is clean, simple elegant and I love the chocolate theme of things. Nice, warm colours with hard clean edges throughout. Friendly staff and there is a little wee bar just past the elevators.
When I first booked it, I thought the room was nice and roomy judging from the look of the pictures, but when we got there. I had to have a good laugh. The room was smaller than the room I even had in San Fran. It was the mirrors everywhere that made it look much bigger than what it really was. The room was comfy, bathroom was clean and the bed nice and soft and had an awesome night of rest. Simply awesome :)
It all helped to make a memorable stay in this nice little city with not taxes and free transit. I could imagine living here in retirement with my c6 h12 o6
The rooms are a bit small (okay, REALLY small), but once you get past that little tidbit, this is one of the nicest hotels I've ever stayed in, up there with the Hopkins and the Fairmont in SF.
- Room: Clean, clean, clean.
- Bed: Comfy, comfy, super comfy.
- The staff was super polite, and got me checked in so quick, I was almost at my room the minute I walked in.
- Two (TWO, I TELL YOU) doormen opened the door just about anytime I came in -- early, late, sober, drunk, etc.
- The bar is super hip looking, almost a bit too hip for the scruffy Portland set.
- It's ideally located in Portland, especially for the carless set. The Trimet Red Line drops you off about a block away, and there's a TON of places to walk to. This is one of those cities that, if you're visiting for business, you don't really need a car unless the business is 30 miles away. Too many fantastic restaurants around here to shake a stick at, and come on, 24 hour room service? What a deal.
- Two more words. Hotel bar. Again.
- The artwork is a bunch of classy yet humorous photos of celebrities and politicians. Very, very elegant touch, something you SHOULD see in most boutiques, but don't.
- LCD TV and iPod port. Plus plus plus.
I'll stay here again.
Why is there an onion ring in my cup holder?!?!
This place has beautiful ambiance, in an excellent location and has a very accommodating staff. It is one of my favorite places to stay in downtown Portland. I booked a room here for my birthday trip to the Rose City since I heard many good things about Hotel Lucia.
The front desk staff were extremely helpful in taking my reservation over the phone, even discussed with me room options and what appealed to me, the Birthday Boy. The check in was fast, friendly and was offered a free bottle of bubbly to be sent up to my room in honor of the occasion. The room itself was their executive king which had a wonderful view of the city. It was clean, spacious and possessed a cozy charm that most hotels I've stayed seem to lack.
There is valet parking available for $21 and a parking garage right across the street that is only $17 for a 24 hour stay. If you do decide to utilize the valet parking don't be surprised when you get in your car the next morning and it smells like cheeseburgers and fries. Let me explain. Hotel Lucia offers 24 hour room service, but after a certain point their room service isn't coming out of their kitchen anymore, it's coming from the Roxy, a diner located a few blocks down. A friend told me that during her visit at the Lucia, she was walking home from a late dinner and happened to see a hotel employee getting out of her car, carrying a bunch of takeout into the hotel. So yes, they use your car to get other peoples takeout. Not sure this is happening all the time, but it is definitely not acceptable.
Despite that I recommend this hotel to many people who are staying in the downtown area, but I also suggest that you just park your car across the street, that way you don't have to deal with the split milkshake that mysteriously appeared all over your upholstery.
PRO: Great spot, good value, awesome staff
CON: Not much, rooms are a little small

So did it stand up to the stringent luxe policies of VdV? Yepper bitches! Yee haw!
First, you get an excellent first impression. Great people behind the desk. Awesome. welcoming, fun and chock full o' recos for where to go, eat, drink, and what to see. All good! BTW they gave us the recos for Veritable Quandary, Ping, Clyde Common, Saucebox (both soon to be reviewed) and more.
So, the rooms. Hey, they're not the size of an airplane hangar (waahhh) and I've read some slams on them about that. Y'know, ya can't really judge a room on square footage alone. And ya might just want to drop a couple pounds. Oops!
Anyhoo. the fact is, these rooms are laid out way better than most rooms in NYC. Meaning, for about the same area you get lots more usable space. We had a King Superior, so I am sure we got a little more room than a Queen or Standard. Believe us, we know the hotel cram down. Lucia packs a lot in a decent size area that makes you feel comfy.

First time to Portland, and we were brought here by the price and the central location first, and through Yelp second.
The room was smaller by current big-city or chain hotel standards, but it was just fine for the two of us, and the bed was super comfortable. We loved the overall decor of the place -- everywhere you looked there were framed black and white photos of famous images and persons.
Overall, it was a great place, and the staff was friendly and helpful. When we pulled up in the rental car and asked about the cheapest overnight parking options, the valet guy was quick to point out the parking garage directly across the street (!) that definitely saved us some scratch. There was no snark or sense of entitlement from him either, which we appreciated.
If I had the chance, I'd definitely stay again.
Here are the pros:
- Decent size room. I was a little worried after reading the reviews, but after staying at a New York hotel in a 10 x 10 room, Hotel lucia was spacious.
- Modern Decorations, artsy lobby.
- The front staff was very friendly.
- The bar downstairs had great drinks and suprisingly good food.
- Convenient location. Walking distance to almost everything in Downtown.
- Good price. $85.00 per night.
Cons:
- A water pipe broke on our first night, and we were told if we wanted to take a shower they would escort us to a hotel room next door. Luckily I wasn't a greaseball that day, so I didn't need to take a shower. Plus, they didn't even give us a discount for the inconvenience.
- $13.95 for internet in the room.... PER DAY. steep, very steep.
- The power went out on one half of our room the day we checked out.
The pros definitely outweighted the cons, so I was happy with our overall stay at Hotel Lucia.
spacious room, pleasing design and appointments. quiet. didn't try the bar downstairs. would def come again.
Have decided I'm officially a fan of the Hotel Lucia in Portland, Oregon, where they have 1) a pillow menu (soft, medium, firm, extra firm, U-neck, body), along with 2) a spiritual menu (call down to the front desk for a copy of the Bhagavad Gita, the Book of Mormon, the Bible, the Koran, the Tao de Ching, the Torah/first five books of Moses, or the Book of Scientology).
Where they also have a lovely little Thai place called Typhoon where I met up with a dear friend and had Fish on Fire. For real. (Halibut.)
The rooms are beautifully appointed, the staff is courteous and kind, and there's a Stumptown Coffee just a few brief blocks away.
Another highlight: The photos of David Hume Kennerly are sprinkled everywhere, including one, near my door, of a nascently evil Dick Cheney piloting a bumpercar at the Ohio State Fair.
For me Hotel Lucia was a much appreciated human retreat in the middle of a grueling business week. Four stars, easy. Five if I'm feeling generous.
I found this place on Yelp and through http://dogfriendly.com! The hotel is beautiful and the staff are incredible! My dog was treated very well:-) I liked the location of the hotel because it was convenience to get to some places that we wanted to visit (IE: Portland market, Powell's, Ground Kontrol, etc) as well as restaurants!!
The hotel provided a dog bed, dog dishes, a toy, and one meal (we could have requested for more food but I brought her regular chow). My dog wasn't sure about the dog bed. {Probably because it had another dog's scent on it.. she did take out the pillow to lay down on. The hotel was great in providing more towels when our dog became muddy since it rained while we were visiting a park.
The closest parks are within few blocks of the hotel were OBryant's Square and North Blocks. We preferred North Blocks since it has some grass.
My only complaint is that the room was tight...we did have a king size bed which was so comfortable..but back to the point- we did not have a lot of room to move around in.
After staying in another Provenance Hotel in Seattle, I was looking forward to our stay at the Hotel Lucia. It did not disappoint. Most importantly, it was central to everywhere we wanted to visit in Portland. B and I walked pretty much everywhere, although buses were easy to find when we weren't in the mood for more walking.
The staff was friendly and helpful at check-in and check-out. They generously gave us free internet when we asked* which I very much appreciated. The bed was super comfy, although the pillows were too soft for my taste...but then that's why they have a pillow menu! It's always nice to be able to customize your stay.
The rooms are small, which did not bother me. I would rather have an attractive room with a comfortable bed than a spacious floral motel room. The bathroom, I must admit, was the smallest full bath I've ever been in. It was a bit awkward to move around in and had no place to hang a towel. I didn't spend much time in there, but can imagine it would have frustrated me a lot more if I had a lot of make-up and hair products to lay out on the tiny counterspace.
Last thing to note would be the noise. You could hear traffic and construction outside and people in the hallway as well. B and I slept like babies, but we're used to city noise. If you're sensitive to it, you might request a room not on Broadway higher up or something. Also, a tv show was filming across the street so we had to close the blinds or it felt like daylight shining in from all the lights they were using.
But maybe i'm nitpicking, because overall we were very happy with our stay. Hotel Lucia made for a comfortable and well-situated home base during our visit to Portland.
*as a sidenote about free internet: I can't believe any hotels charge for internet! It seems absurd! And yet I find most hotels will give it to you for free if you ask nicely. And then you feel like you've won something! Free internet for you while others must pay! Victory! But really, it should have been free in the first place.
Update: this hotel was quick to make amends for the ad snafu. They intend to include the restrictions on the special in the future so other people won't have to call around super-confused like I did. I hope to update my review soon with a review of the hotel, and not the room-booking process.
-------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------
I must say that I'm annoyed. I thought that the special 15% off with free valet promotion on weekends was a pretty good deal, but it's "subject to availability" and wasn't actually available at all.
False advertising really sucks.
Dear Hotel Lucia -
I know you used to be the Imperial Hotel, which was a wee bit of a shithole. So I'm so so so glad you renovated yourself into something hip and beautiful.
Your staff if very knowledgeable about the Portland area, which is nice for people who have never visited and even better for those of us that used to live in P-town. They are truly the nicest front desk staff we've ever encountered.
Your rooms, while kind of small (it's a hotel room, it's cool. not like i'm gonna hold a wrestling match in there), are tastefully decorated - the beds are awesomely comfortable, the bathrooms cute and stocked w/ lovely Aveda products. The window in the bathroom makes up for the fact that there isn't a fan in there.
AND you're pet friendly. REALLY? That is fantastic!
All in all, I'd have to say an A - you are now officially tied w/ the Inn @ Northrup Station - in convenience and nice staff peoples.
So thank you.
We will return.
Maybe I set myself up for a fall by reading so many positive reviews here before booking to stay at the Lucia. Granted, the pre-arrival process was great -- I found a wonderful deal on Orbitz which the hotel met, meaning I saved on online booking fees. Yay!
The room was a bit small and the layout is so boxy and awkward that it didn't feel like a 4-star place. Also, I was using the hairdryer and I blew a fuse in the room. I ended up having to call the front desk using my cell (since the phone had also lost electricity) and it sounded like it wasn't some weird isolated occurrence. I didn't use it again for the remainder of my stay for fear it would happen again.
At most 4-star places I've stayed, there is usually an option for the towels regarding replacing them or just keeping the same ones to save on energy bills. I'm not sure if they replaced or not, since my towel was folded but not hung on the towel rack, but I would have liked to have been sure they weren't replacing with new towels every day of my stay.
Finally, boo to paying for internet, but yay to vegan options on their room service menu. There was nothing super outstanding enough about this place for me to make it my #1 hotel in Portland.
Love this hotel. really nice modern decor with a classic feel. Would gladly stay here again.
Rooms: The rooms are really nice. The beds are amazing and overall really comfortable. The overall room size it a little small but then again it's a downtown hotel, something you can expect. The bathrooms are small as well but do the job just fine. No complaints at all.
Bar: The Adjacent "Bo Bar" is super cool. They have friendly staff and just about the entire bar is comfy seating where you can just relax and drink. The bar is also set up so there are private corners everywhere where you can get away from main traffic.
Overall - I would chose this over just about any hotel in this area. I've stayed at each and every one around here and while they are all nice as well, Lucia seems to have just a little more "hip" feeling to it.
This place is perfect!

This is a neat little hotel; reasonably priced and well located.
One really telling thing: As I was about to leave in the morning, I witnessed an exchange between a supervisor and one of the housekeeping staff. I was overjoyed to see how polite and respectful the supervisor was to the employee, and it was obvious that they were comfortable with one another. THAT's the sign of a well run hotel!
Perfect for Portland...Perfect anywhere!
Oh Lucia, you classy lover. I'm so ashamed for how I mistreated you.
First, I wouldn't pay for valet. Hey, it's a fucking rental. I'll walk four blocks with luggage, thankyouverymuch.
But you didn't look down on me for that. Oh no. You welcomed me, with your crazy hipster concierge and your incredible, though disturbing, array of original photography of Republican politicians. (You were joking with those, weren't you darling? Let's never speak of it again.)
You didn't blink an eye when I opened the bourbon - just a little nip to take the edge off, I told you. You knew it wasn't true. What's worse, you knew you weren't the first hotel I'd brought that bourbon to. And you won't be the last.
When I refused to stay long - other engagements, my dear, dreadfully sorry - you took it in stride. I'll be waiting, you said. Take your time.
Oh, and how I did. I traipsed all over town - to the east side, no less! Those seedier parts you've only heard tell of. And I didn't even think of you back there, waiting patiently, snuggled next to your fancy restaurants and your four-star hotel friends.
But worst of all was when I came back to you that night, stumbling in quite late. Soiling your chaste, lily-white sheets with stale cigarette smoke and smudged mascara. Smelling of lust and cheap beer. And menthols. Ugh.
Yet you were so kind. So gentle. Come to bed, you said. And I did.
It was luxurious. It was wonderful. It made me feel fresh and clean and rested - like I hadn't spent the evening with characters of ill repute, wandering East Burnside bars looking for cheap thrills and cheaper drinks.
When I left, I told you I loved you, but you weren't the only one. You said that's OK. You said you'd wait for me.
Lucia, I hope you wait still.
The folks at the Lucia could tell Westin a thing or two about heavenly beds. They set a rack that's right up there with the best I've slept in: Neither too hard nor too soft, a good selection of pillows, lofty down comforter. And, despite the smallish room size, the bed was a full-sized king. The first thing I judge a hotel room by is the bed; it's where I'll spend the majority of my stay. The Lucia does that right.
The staff was accommodating, warm, and helpful in a casual, Portland-y way. I did spring for parking, and the valets went out of their way to get my car ready for me when I needed it. The decor was welcoming, although I'm not sure how I felt about being confronted with black-and-whites of Kissinger and Rumsfeld each time I stepped out of the elevator on the ninth floor. The room may have been on the small side (Chicago small, not Manhattan small), but, what? I wasn't planning to line dance in there.
Where did they slip up? Wireless. Okay, I get that you're in the hotel business to make money, but seriously? I'm beginning to think of wireless in the same way I would hot water and heat--not optional, and you don't get to charge extra for it. Fortunately, other reviewers comments notwithstanding, someone (one of the nearby hotels?) was beaming free wireless into my room at the Lucia. It cut out every so often, but it got the job done. Also, what's with the fog shower? I get saving the environment and all, but it's Portland for Christ's sake. They get a million inches of rain a year. Do I really need to take a shower with drinking-fountain water pressure?
All in all, I would stay at the Lucia again. It's well placed and very comfortable.
Not as great as expected. Beautiful place, well decorated and lit, has nice Aveda products, but really fails to meet the mark in terms of providing a true four star experience.
For example - they charge you for toothpaste, and it wasn't even stocked in the mini-bar. They charge 14$ for internet access, but that's free in many 2 and 3 star hotels. Toothpaste is usually free at these places as well. Maybe its the financial crisis at play here, but when a maid sees the shampoo empty, you'd think she/he would replace it, but not at Lucia.
The room is nice, small, and lacks room. The doors block walkways and the bed is too large for the space. Space is an issue. The bed is fairly soft, so for people who like firm beds - you are out of luck. They have a pillow menu, but this fancy service is really not needed when some of the basics are not covered.
Room service has an automatic 2$ delivery fee PLUS as 20% gratuity added. Why??
So the assistant manager, Amy, called me after I posted this. I appreciate that. We covered all of my comments.
So I agree with her that the fitness center is appropriate for a hotel of this size. You can also go to the Hilton for $10 for a gym with a pool. I'm a sucker for a stationary bike (not a recombent like they have.
She agreed on the bar noise thing and said they are working on a remodel. Also she mentioned that the rooms they have for folks on priceline are the smaller ones. They have larger ones (which I figure they do are are nice).
They are reviewing their internet price policy which I think is smart. Parking is parking. That's just downtown Portland. Extra star for follow up.
Orginal Review:
The only thing special about this place is that the folks who runs the door and the front desk are nice and helpful. The fitness center is small and crappy.
They charge $30 for valet parking. They charge $11 a day for internet.
The rooms are small but modern.
The location is nice though so if you're planning on being out almost all the time like I was it's not so bad.
I was in room 609 and it was good that I didn't go to sleep till 12 on a Monday night because even on the 6th floor I could easily get down to the music coming from the bar. Amazing that they left a couple grand worth of insulation out of the budget for the remodel.
This could easily be a great place if they would put some plugs in the lobby floor and give free internet in the lobby. since most routers don't go through floor levels they could still charge you if you want to use it in your room. But a lot more folks would congregate in the lobby giving the hotel a more communal feel. And that would possibly make it worth revisiting. Plus they could sell wine and appetizers to folks hanging out.
Great hotel - very hip and modern - compact rooms but wonderful bed - very comfy -nice personal touches, similar to the "W" hotels but even better.
Wonderful service.
We stayed here over the weekend and thought it was really a swanky place to stay for the price.
Pros:
- The bed. ZOMG the bed.
- Classy b/w photography everywhere. The interior design of everything was spectacular.
- Great service - they upgraded us when I noticed our room was missing a rooms safe.
- Location! Very central to downtown. Walkable from the Max stop if you're coming from the airport.
Cons:
- No automatic toiletries replacement. Why?
- We were gone from 11a - 4p on Sunday, and they missed cleaning our room.
- Room service food wasn't great and it comes delivered on a tray. So, you're eating off the bed. Skip it.
- The upgraded king room had a smaller bathroom and closet than the standard king. I guess you can only do so much with a remodel of an old building?
Overall, I'd probably stay here again if I never intended to order room service.
Stayed at Lucia for the weekend in Portland and overall we had a great stay. The staff was attentive, the rooms were nice, great beds, although our bathroom was pretty tiny, but well designed for the limited space. It is located n the heart of downtown which was nice as we could walk to the restaurants we checked out. The photos all over the hallways added to the great decor. And the free apples were a hit with my 4 year old!
I had heard good things about hotel Lucia and recently stayed for 4 nights on business. the decor is modern, but comfortable. i was in a corner king and the room was gigantic with 2 bathrooms and had the most amazingly comfortable bed. have heard that some of the rooms are random sizes--guessing cause it is in a remodeled older building. my coworkers were both in double rooms and they were standard. there isn't breakfast provided, but the staff gave an amazing breakfast rec that topped any free hotel breakfast. and you can get food at the restaurant in the hotel if you are desperate. only other negative would be the business center. was gonna go down to do some work there but it was like a tiny closet. that said, you can easily get wireless and work in your room, which is better anyways.
also want to mention the staff--they were friendly and helpful. overall the negatives were so minor and i wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
I was very happy with this hotel overall. I moved to the Hilton for a conference for a few days after staying at Lucia, and the Hilton was both more expensive and less appealing. Here is the breakdown:
Pros:
The location is great - you'll be downtown, a couple of blocks from public transport. The hotel is very modern - nice decor, and everything looks brand new, including the bathroom. They provide a nice bathrobe, a full size hair dryer, and even a spiritual menu (i.e. a list of various religious books to pick from, eastern and western). Everything is super eco-conscious - recycling bins are provided, and the cleaning staff actually respect the "if the towel's hanging up, don't take it" rule. The service is very good, and the very friendly valets are always there to open the door for you (not that this is really needed...). If you have a car, no need to pay for the valet parking - there is a parking garage directly across the street.
Cons:
This is a boutique hotel, so the rooms are relatively small. I stayed in a queen bed room, which felt pretty cramped, but it was still very comfy. My only other complaint is that they don't have free wireless, which is ridiculous for a hotel located in a downtown location which is chock-full of coffee shops with free wi-fi. To be fair, when I complained about this on Twitter, someone left me a voicemail telling me I'd get free wi-fi, but it was too late by the time I got the message. And why didn't they just tweet me?
I would stay there again - I'd just request free wi-fi up front next time. :)
Free high speed wireless. Reasonably nice gym. Super helpful staff. An abundance of apples. Charming little rooms with a flats screen tv and a super comfortable bed. Fri and Sat downtown for $190. This is a good little spot.
We must have hit all the high points and none of the bad, because it was a pleasure to stay here for 4 days. The staff was super nice and helpful, they treated us like the rock stars that we are...not one raised eyebrow at our Trader Joe's and Ikea bags for luggage.
I cringed at paying the extra fee for internet, but got over that and enjoyed being in the room plotting my next moves. The streets are a little confusing to a n00b.
We enjoyed both restaurants downstairs as well as the giant bowls of apples in the lobby. We even got to watch the Rose Parade from our window with friends. Coolness.
During a stay at the Hotel Lucia in Portland Oregon, my wife and I enjoyed a great evening in one of the Northwest's finest hotels.
Checking in was very smooth and the helpful valet pointed out parking options as we arrived in town following a nearly three hour drive through rush hour traffic. The gorgeous lobby greeted us decked in subtle yet eloquent furnishings that blended traditional elegance with modern designs. Our check in was very pleasant and quick, and before long, we were inserting our room key into the elevator for secured access to our floor. The room was very well decorated and came with a flat screen television as well as a spacious bathroom and honor bar.
The room had a great view of the downtown area and we could see the various clubs and restaurants that were adjacent to the hotel.
The cable in the room was good, and included many of our favorites such as the Sci-Fi Channel, Cartoon Network, and Spike. I know it sounds silly, especially on a relaxing trip, but there are times you want to relax to your favorite shows or old favorites, and far too many hotels of late only offer the local stations and a small handful of cable stations.
The bathroom had a large shower as well as a well sized sink and counter area as well as a hair dryer. The room also had ample closet space and very comfy robes available for our use and plenty of drawer and desk space.
The hotel has wireless internet available for a fee as well as a host of features that included 24-hour business center
24-hour fitness center
24-hour room service offering both Thai and American cuisine
Pillow Menu
Torrefazione coffee and Tazo teas
Aveda bath products
iPod docking stations
Flat-screen televisions
Parking - Valet with in-and-out privileges
Turn-down service upon request The Hotel Lucia also offers some amazing artwork for guests and the walls of the hotel are decked out in some of the best black and white photography ever assembled and made me venture down the halls to take in the vast collection.
Check out was very quick, and we were sad to see our stay end, but were happy to discover a new place to stay, and look forward to our next trip.

I was surprised at how little I enjoyed my stay at this hotel. It was a cascading chain of displeasing events.
1. I made reservations under a wedding party that was supposed to be discounted; which didnt happen, so I had to make 4 additional phone calls and help them with their own problem.
2. When I arrived in Portland, I needed quick directions, and they gave me the wrong ones.
3. The rooms were extremely small, especially considering the price.
4. They charge$15 dollars a day for internet!
5. Valet parking is 30+ dollars a day and they park your car1/4 mile from the hotel making it difficult if you need access to your car.
6. They didnt restock my bathroom with shampoo/soap/towels until I asked for it.
7. The toilets are so loud you can hear them in the neighboring units...if you have trouble sleeping, forget it!
There are so many options in Portland, if you plan on spending this much, you may as well get some space and service with it. When I checked out, they could have cared less. I am half considering making a call to hotel management, but will probably get routed to India.
This is by far my worst hotel stay in Portland, and would have been better suited in a hostel.
Hands down FABULOUS!
It really helps that they have original black and white photography framed throughout the hotel and in the rooms. There's also a nice display of famous photographs in the lobby.
With dark wood and modern lines, the rooms are airy, comfortable, chic, slick and quite sexy. There's also a gallery of paintings and sculptures.
It also helps that this hotel is located in lovely Portland, the home of tremendous small breweries and great people. I can't wait to go back!
Can I just say that this hotel is exquisite? with no attitude to match..? extremely courteous staff. I love it. I enjoyed this stay much more so than my sheraton visit last year near the airport. It's sleek, modern and classic in feel.. yet being very homey and comfortable. Very inviting. I also prefer this over the Heathman which is by far older and has a totally different look and feel to it. Another plus? Being right in the heart of downtown, not too far from places like Pioneer Place. I win.
What a phenomenal little hotel this is! Being that it' s my first time in Portland, this gem of a boutique hotel serves as quite a wonderful first impression. Lovely contemporary designed interior, with a very professional and cheerful staff (I must say everyone we've encountered so far in Portland is so nice, it's unreal!). I especially dig all their fantastic black and white photography displayed everywhere. Their choices of ebony fixtures, warm colored upholstery, and stark white accents certainly stirred my senses. Even their warmly lit fireplace made such a modern place certainly more cozy and inviting.
To my surprise, Hotel Lucia is located central to everything a traveler could ask for, from shopping, night life, and great restaurants. Plus, at $159/night was quite a good deal in my book. What's even more great is that they have a killer adjacent Thai restaurant that provides 24 hr room service. Nice to know my late night craving for Veggie Pad Thai will be soon fulfilled!
True the rooms are on the tiny side, but I really don't mind. The rooms manage space incredibly well so that you really don't notice it that much. Love the comfy-fluffy-beds ( In fact, my hubby just crashed on the bed in just 10 seconds!), High Speed Wireless Internet (great for me to Yelp on right now!), IPod docking station (a total plus for me since I gotta have the tunes w/me at all times), huge flat screen TV w/ premium cable (so my hubby can watch the Nashville Network all night long! j/k), Aveda bath products and plush robes (for that extra spa-like appeal), and rockin' Mini Bar (promised the hubs I wouldn't go crazy now... Oh geez, a Snickers bar for $4.50? Ouch. Mmm-k, maybe forget about the mini bar idea).
I simply adore this place...and I've only been in here for like an hour! Good thing I'll be staying here for another 2 days! It feels like home away from home...minus the doggies.(They are dog friendly though, but couldn't bring them along this time around.)
Oh...how I miss the doggies. : (
Ok, smile...: ) Think of the exciting dinner you'll be having later this evening at Masu Sushi.
Stay tuned for another exciting review!
Great funky-nice hotel in DT P-town.
They upgraded us for free when they found out it was our honeymoon. The service here is spectacular - on top of everything but very approachable with all of your questions.
When I finally go Howard-Hughes-crazy, I don't think I'll live in this hotel (rooms are a bit too small for shuffling around in Kleenex-box slippers), but I'll enjoy it in the meantime.
We loved Hotel Lucia!! It's a very well designed, friendly hotel and very centrally located in Portland. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. We really felt on vacation here and the business center was amazing as well.
I heard from my cab driver that Snoop Dogg stayed at the Lucia recently and so did the Hogans last year. It's a beautiful boutique hotel, which is great for a romantic getaway, singles trip, rock star trip, We loved it!! Better than any of the other hotels in Downtown in my opinion (they're huge and so standard).
Very much enjoyed staying at Lucia -- great central location, very helpful and friendly staff and a pristine room! Being situated next to the Bo restaurant was also a plus for grabbing a quick cocktail in the evening.
It's not the Ace Hotel, but still ranks up there among the best hotels I've stayed in. And there's a Stumptown coffee shop and Mother's Bistro four or five *short* blocks away!
From working in the hotel industry for 5 years, I can confidently say that the Hotel Lucia has it going on.
It's the right price. It's not too much. It's not cheap. The decor is spot on. The hotel caters to my people. We're not making enough dough to dump $200+ a night on a hotel room, yet we're over the itchy bedding at the Days Inn down the street.
We are no longer spending time in hotels to loiter and drink pabst in the lobby. We do that at home. We are starting to travel for the joy of it or because we have friends to visit who cannot house us. We are starting to realize that you get what you pay for and if you're paying for your hotel by the hour, you better strip the sheets off the bed and sleep in every stitch of clothing you own.
Because scabies are a bitch to get rid of.
But back to the Lucia. Modern. Pretty. In-room massages. Minibar with megabar prices, but you should really get off your ass and walk down the street for a soda. Great location downtown.
Five stars. While Hotel Jupiter is a lot more fun, Hotel Lucia is a lot more refined.
I really liked staying at Hotel Lucia. The only complaint I have, really is that they try to shoehorn big items into small rooms. The bed takes over the room. In the bathroom a cool but too-big-for-the-room sink makes it difficult to move around. But everything was excellent quality, and the valet service was spot on and the location is excellent for business or recreation.
I had a lovely stay at Hotel Lucia, which turned out to be longer than expected due to a major snowstorm that shut down the city. The rooms are nicely appointed with pillow-top beds, armoire, and desk. The decor is warm and inviting, with high ceilings and crown moulding. The bathroom was awash in small green and white tiles reminiscent of the 1940's, complete with pedestal sinks and ... what? AVEDA products? Nice attention to detail, there.
Room service was excellent. Free wi-fi. Speedy access to your vehicle from the valets. Step out the front door and all of downtown PDX is waiting for you. I really cannot say enough good things about Hotel Lucia.
Two words: Pillow Menu.
Hotel Lucia is a lovely place to stay. The rooms are beautiful, with high ceilings, soft linens, comfy beds and cozy robes. And the aforementioned pillow menu. Also, Aveda toiletries. There's great black and white photography lining the hallways, you just may want to take the elevators to another floor to check out some more artwork.
To those who think the rooms are too small, you should be spending less time in the room and more time out exploring our fine city. Don't let the rain scare you. And if you're in the room, you should spend less time wandering around the room, and more time in the bed.
If you know what I'm saying.
I really loved staying here. We came recently for 3 nights to celebrate our anniversary. I had mentioned it on the phone when I made the reservation, but was really surprised when they gave us a bottle of champagne to celebrate! I was also really surprised when different staff wished us a happy anniversary. It really made us feel like staff was going out of their way to make us feel special.
The room wasn't huge, but we didn't want a huge room. The bed was fantastic and we could open the window, which was really nice. I loved all of the photography in the hotel too.
The location is good if you want to walk around downtown and the Pearl. We didn't have a car and it was really easy to get around.
I'd definitely stay here again.
