The hubby and I stayed here on our wedding night - our original hotel was overbooked, so we ended up at La Rose.  So here is the good and the bad...

Woo hoos:
-amazingly nice staff.  They upgraded us to the "honeymoon suite" for free, they chatted with us and congratulated us on the wedding...unfortunately they couldn't find me a grilled cheese sandwich at 12 am, but I won't hold that against them
-jacuzzi tub...awesome
-really interesting breakfast.  A nice variety of meats, and really delicious scones that were actually moist

Boos:
-Inside décor was dated
-Bed was hard and wayyy squeaky...sorry neighbors
-Street noise was a little loud.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay.  I would recommend this hotel to others :)

The staff at the front desk was very friendly and attentive.  Although a little on the Dark side, the lobby was cute and quaint 1900 English decor.  Although my hotel room was dark and sorta awkward i was impressed with the service.  We ate at the hotel restaurant that evening and we were so surprised how GOOD the food was!  Super fresh and delicious!  The morning continental breakfast buffet was delicious, as well!

Meowerrific!!!!!

This is what I envision when I'm in Sonoma:  a quaint, cottage-like place.    Across the street is a spacious coffee shop / bakery for snacks and pizza.  The hotel has a restaurant, which I did not try.  As a guest, 2 drinks are included with dinner.  However, I would recommend exploring downtown Santa Rosa since it's only 2 blocks away!

A delicious breakfast was included with the room.  They served lox, bagels, cold cuts and scones.  The main building is decorated English style, romantic and pink with fresh flowers. I found the desk clerk and doorman / parking attendant  to be friendly and helpful.  I requested to stay in the Carriage House.  The gaited fence made me feel secure.   From my balcony, I could hear  the relaxing sound of the water fountain.  I only wish I had packed a book to read!  The bed was high and my comforter fluffy.  My room came with a full bath tub and shower.

For a budget / moderately priced hotel, you can't find a better deal!

Pulled off the freeway to sleep during a road trip from the south to the north, and wound up at La Rose Hotel on a whim. What a beautiful and charming little piece of Europe this place is!
We wound up in a loft-style room, and man, it was gorgeous! Especially loved the bathroom, and the comfy king sized bed, and the sleek robes, and the service!
Mad props to this hotel. It's loverly!

Hubby and I spent our first anniversary in wine country and after a lot of research, we found the Hotel La Rose.  There is the main hotel and the newer Carriage House across the street.  After reading that the main house is haunted, I requested a room across the street (I'm a wimp, okay?)

When we got there and checked in, we discovered that they had booked us in a room in the main house despite my request.  We asked if the rumors of the haunting were really true and were told that there have been reports that there are occasional "unexplained" occurrences on the 4th floor.  I looked at my key and saw we were on the 3rd.  My paranoia set in (what?  can't ghosts go down stairs???) and I asked if we could be moved.  They chuckled a bit, but did it without question.

Our room was really welcoming and big.  The bathroom was huge and had a cute antique cabinet and built in ironing board that folded down from the wall.  We had a patio and requested a refrigerator for an extra $30.  it was well worth the extra charge.  We also received a certificate for a free glass of wine in the hotel bar.  While we were there, the top inexplicably popped off of the martini shaker and rolled over to me.  My hubby says it was the ghost teasing me for being a scaredy cat.  We'll never know...

It was a wonderful place to come home to after a long day of wine tasting.  Unfortunately, we never woke up early enough to enjoy the complimentary breakfast.

Here it is...my 100th review!

Very cozy, historic, boutique hotel in Santa Rosa's old downtown "Railroad Square" area. I usually stay at the Flamingo (they were booked) so they recommended that I stay here. The beds are amazing--pillow top with wonderful bedding, linens and pillows (a downy comforter too). The rooms can be small, but you expect that in an old hotel...that's how they rolled back in the early 1900's.

The decor was too English-manor-y for me. Really, Sana Rosa is a neat old town that has a rich role in California history; it was heavily settled by Italians, Mexicans and Mission era Spaniards...there's also the "Redwood Empire" slant; they should play that up! Why have forest geen carpet and paintings of Fox Hunts? I doesn't fit.

The best part of La Rose is the location. All of Santa Rosa's best restaurants and bars (Syrah, Le Guer, Lococo's et al) are all walking distance. That's what you want after gorging on braised lamb shank over canellini beans in a tomato, sage brodo washed down with a bottle of Barbaresco...can't walk to the Flamingo from here. Take care of your hangover at Aroma...a very cool little cafe across the street.

This hotel is the cutest and most charming little getaway I have seen in a long long time.  We stayed in the coach house across the street from the main building.  It has a cute little courtyard, and little walled in patios for each property.  The room was spacious and both of the beds were outfitted with down duvets as well as lots of mushy pillows.  The room was huge and very spacious.  When we checked in we asked for some ice, and we were walked across the street with a charming man who had a bucket of ice, two bottles of water for us, some strawberries, an apple and a banana.  Wow!  What an ice bucket that was!  He also gave us some great advice about dinner as well as the neighborhood... which is charming.

I love little Santa Rosa, and now I have somewhere to stay the next time the oenophile in me needs a little wine-country getaway.

Just like walking in a hotel from the past with charm and attentive service from the staff.  It was in the evening after work when I checked in and the warm glow of the place made me wish I had a SO to share it with.

I asked someone what they thought of the hotel and she said it's very romantic and that was the word I was looking for but couldn't place it, so yes romantic, with it's soft feathered bed to the toilet that hangs from the wall.  You'll just have to see for yourself.  I'll have to remember this hotel for when I'm up here for personal and not work related travels.

A classical first-class hotel.

My Lady had a final exam in Santa Rosa, so we decided to make an excursion of it.  At $190/night with a 2 night minimum, it was a bargain to stay at this 100-year-old stone (not brick) centerpiece of Railroad Square.  As we walked through the front door, we walked right into history.

Carpets everywhere.  Classic dark wood fixtures, dark leather arm chairs, dusty rose ceilings, palatial drapery in the windows, potted plants, and wallpaper on every wall.  Could this once have been a brothel?  It certainly could have been a men's club.  The labyrinthine corridors and simple rooms sparked my imagination.  The 1985 renovation was as true to history as modern taste would allow.

The room was plain, but clean and with a bed firm enough to let us sleep soundly.  The bathroom had marble counters, marble floor tile, and marble tile on the walls.  Gold-tone fixtures, as another review has noted, and a most amusing high-tank toilet made from modern components.  Even the water was perfect, hard enough to rinse the soap off, but not so hard as to draw attention.

The free European breakfast in the morning was a masterpiece.  Cold cuts, smoked salmon, the best scones one could possibly hope for (I ate two), breakfast rolls, hard-boiled eggs, coffee, orange juice, granola cereal and yogurt.  I haven't seen a breakfast like this since I cruised the Moselle.

The staff were all cheerful and enthusiastic, even helpful on the phone.  They had free wifi.

Looking at the Hotel La Rose website, it looks like there may be some nice rooms at this hotel. That's good because the staff seems very nice and the hallways and lobby seem very nice...it's just...nice that there may be some nice rooms.

We didn't find OUR room very nice.

We ended up here after the Hilton overbooked themselves and didn't honor our reservation but instead gave us our choice of going to the Holiday Inn Express, the Hotel La Rose or some other hotel that sounded kind of skeevy. We chose this one because it's not the holiday inn and the location was supposed to be quite good.

We would not have chosen the room we were put in if we'd had ANY other room to choose from. Our room had two twin beds (some romantic getaway) that were very soft and lumpy (I slept on the floor half the night, which was actually rather comfortable once all the bedding was down there, they have pretty good padding under the carpet). The beds didn't have fitted sheets which made me wonder if maybe this is the ONE room with twin beds and they keep losing the sheets for it?

The room also had NO tub in the bathroom. Just a small shower stall. Okay, I've stayed in rooms with smaller shower stalls in Northern Italy, but this was still pretty small...my bf banged his head on the wall in there and I managed to hit the water control with my elbow once, unexpectedly turning the water off in the middle of my shower. Grrrr. The bathroom/room was also very poorly designed for two people getting ready for bed or getting up in the morning or whatever...one sink, no counter space, no place to really put the hair dryer. Hardly any bath amenities like soap, shampoo, etc.

It was a bit noisy, too. It's right in "town" and cars roar by with music blasting even in the middle of the night. Some double paned glass would have been a great idea.

But, the hotel isn't all bad. The employees are really nice, especially Valentine, who greeted us when we pulled up out front, then ran behind the desk to check us in, then valet parked our car and then when my bf went to get ice...well, there wasn't an ice machine but Valentine took the ice bucket and filled it with ice AND gave him two bottles of water and some fruit.

The hotel has no room service, BUT Valentine told us that we could call down in the morning and if they weren't too busy and we were nice about it, we might convince his sister who would be working to bring us some of the complimentary breakfast. That probably would have been nice, but we aren't very good at organizing ourselves for breakfast before 10am on a Sunday.

The location seemed convenient, right across from a California Visitor's Center and a too-cool-for-you coffee shop and right down the street from Syrah.

I've agonized way more than I probably should on how many stars to give this place, two or three. Valentine was so nice he deserves five stars, BUT we only spent a few minutes with Valentine and we spent about 12 hours in a room with no tub and two very small uncomfortable beds. I give room 33 a mere 2 stars.

I chose the wrong weekend to stay in Yountville - Mustard Festival.  No rooms.  I was desperate enough to check the place with all the teddy bears - booked.

Hours later - a whole day gone! - I decided to just stay in town.  A night out with no kids is good no matter where you are.

I chose Hotel La Rose with some trepidation. I mean, I've seen pictures.  The idea of being eaten alive by that much floral was a real threat.  Luckily, they have the Carriage House across the street.  Still floral?  But not enough to induce siezures.

The service was exceptional.  I was really happy to encounter a woman who actually seemed to like her job and not the normal front desk girl who acts like I am doing a grave disservice out by making her print shit out.

The room.  The room was really luxurious.  And decorated not how I would decorate my house, but you know - it was done well for what it was.  There was still floral wallpaper. There was still "art" on the walls that was very Early Grandma.  The sink and toilet are Kohler (I'm married to a plumber, I notice these things) but they have gold toned handles.  So you get the idea.

The bed was so high I had to take a running jump to get onto it.  Four poster.  Fantastic linens.  Antique armoires for the TV and then another in the bathroom for the towels and robe. Marble tiles in the bathroom and shower.  Jetted tub.

The furniture was not hotel furniture - just the regular home stuff.  Ugly, but it was nice to not feel like I was sitting on vinyl.

You are offered a free glass of wine at Josef's just for being a guest at the hotel.  The wine...wasn't good.  But it was free!  And the bartender heard me mention my birthday and she gave me my triple chocolate torte for free and included a candle.

I didn't have the free breakfast, we went to Omelette Express instead.  Shoulda just had the free breakfast.

Oh, the room that we stayed in (the deluxe suite) also has these vaulted ceilings and the windows that go out to the balcony go all the way to the ceiling.  Really cool.

I feel bad for putting up such a boring review.  But I'm tired after all that hotel sex.

My bf and I just spent Valentine's Day at this lovely hotel.  The staff were very nice, and provided us with complimentary glasses of wine and V-Day chocolates.  Our room was extremely lovely, with a little sitting area and spacious entry.  The location is great if you are interested in downtown Santa Rosa--nice shopping, restaurants, and my all-time favorite brewery.  I highly recommend this charming, historic bed and breakfast.  We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!

Although certainly an older establishment, The Hotel La Rose is quaint and full of the kind of charm you'd find at a bed and breakfast in the Northeast.  I was able to see three different rooms at the hotel -- two had living room-type areas with adjoining bedrooms while the other was a smaller room with only the bedroom area.  I didn't get to peek inside, but the Carriage House across the street is supposed to be where the larger rooms are located.

The staff here was wonderful, tremendously helpful and knowledgeable about the area and local businesses.  Staying at the Hotel La Rose has several local business perks -- you receive vouchers for free glasses of wine at Josef's, the restaurant next door, and a discount at Aroma, the coffeehouse across the street.

My only gripe was the lack of a closet -- the only place we had to hang clothes was in the smaller half of the TV cabinet, and even at that, the space was only about three feet tall, meaning all pants and longer dresses stood little chance of remaining unwrinkled throughout the night.

Very polite and curteous staff, tremendously comfortable beds and pillows (I tried to steal them, but they wouldn't fit into my luggage), HUUUUGE bathroom (I had a terrific bubble bath) and the bath products smelled soooo good (stole them) and my soft hair smelled of sweet oranges all day.  I stayed in the Carriage House (highly recommend versus the main hotel), but did not try the breakfast or the restaurant.
I hear it's much better than the Hyatt , but I won't go to the Hyatt to find out.

We stayed here for our anniversary and we loved it.  My husband and I love the vintage old world charm of this hotel, and the staff were fantastic!  We chose a room on the 4th floor, which had the sloping ceilings and a balcony.  I only wish there was a bit more variety in the breakfast selections but that was greatly outweighed by the friendliness and attentiveness of the staff.  Valentine in particular was great - as a nice finishing touch he gave us each a water bottle on the way out for our drive home.

Nice old hotel located in downtown Santa Rosa. Super comfy beds, nice people, complementary breakfast served till 10:30 daily. Also you get 15% off at the restaurant and a complementary glass of wine. The only downfall is there isn't a pool. :(

I didn't really like staying here for my business travel. I didn't get to see the area during the day; so, La Rose at night was not that exciting. All the construction at night didn't help either. The people were all very helpful and genuinely nice. I would recommend this place for people (not a person by themselves) who are going there for fun and want to really experience a relaxed timeless Santa Rosa.
