Ah, the J Bar from days gone by. One can only smile at the illegal things that went on there . . .

The Jerome is now managed by Rock Resorts and what with the renovation and new addition the private owners have done, this place does truly rock.

Nice people running the place. Get ya anything ya want (come on now, within reason, that is). Beautiful rooms in the historic part of the hotel (didn't stay in the new rooms), and classic style get them a solid 4+ stars.  We were there for a wedding and the room prices were cheap ($159 a night), compared to what they run during ski season.  Definitely a great place to stay in Aspen if you can get a deal.

The hotel could seriously use some updating.  I understand that the idea is the authenticity, but it just feels gritty and dirty.  The carpeting is gross, wallpaper dated and I sat on a couch on the 2nd floor - only to fall all the way to the ground because it was broken.  We had a disgusting light fixture that had two separate light bulbs that just created a yellow glow in the room...not helping the low budget feel.

I would expect a 5 star hotel for $450/night...this hotel is NOT that.

Great boutique hotel with the service and amenities that I expect.

I loved the decor - antique and beautiful in the lobby.  Almost kitschy in the guest room I stayed in.  I really liked it!

I had a bloody mary at J Bar which was good.  Not great, but respectable.  I also ordered room service one day and the food was excellent!

I would definitely recommend.

The library and bar area of Hotel Jerome are very relaxing. The service was great. If you are looking for a romantic spot for a night cap the Hotel Jerome Library is excellent.

Now I must say I loved this hotel... Everything about it represented to me old Aspen and new Aspen minus the snooty factor one might encounter at the St Regis or Little Nell. I have stayed at the HJ three times, once in the late Spring when I was out looking for a summer job in the arts. I had my little Maltese with me and everyone was very nice to us. They even let him sit for lunch in J Bar. I decided that I must come back out in the winter to ski and would definitely and only stay at the Hotel Jerome which was not right at the mountain (Ajax/Aspen) but was good for shops and eats. Plus the hotel runs shuttle so distance schmitance...

My room was beautiful, #216 I seem to recall, a beautiful Victorian style over looking the courtyard in the front of the hotel and the ski mountain. The first room I stayed in there faced Red Mountain and it was lovely so they had upgraded me for my return trip. Well one day while getting ready to hit the town I look out the window and see a couple enjoying their genitals beneath the bubbly surface of the hot tub centrally located in said courtyard along corridor where most guests staying in that area of the hotel would walk. It was late afternoon. I could not help but notice the closeness of the hot tub frolickers and her purple bikini bottoms in a pile on the side of the hot tub, steaming like a freshly produced dog turd on a cold Aspen day. Well, call me prudish, but I think that fornicating in the afternoon/early evening in the public shared centrally and obviously located hot tub is gross and inappropriate so I call down to complain. Is it just me or would others prefer they get/be given a room? And should they not drain the water after their love fest? So after dinner I take another look out my window and the hot tub is drained and there are orange pylon cones in it. What a grand thing it was that it was cleaned so others do not have to bubble along in the hot water with their love coogies... Great trip...

SO The next year I call up to make a reservation for an even longer stay, two weeks, and request the same room, comfy bed and all, and I find out I am "BLACKLISTED" for having turned in the Hot Tub Fornicators. WTF???!! I was not fornicating in their public pool! Yet I have a blemish on MY record? I decide to go anyway, should have stayed at the Little Nell or St Regis, as it was quite the chat topic when I got there even mentioned by the clerk checking me in. I'm sorry, "Who are you?" Professional. I had nothing to be defensive about yet it was palpable that I was the baddy. I brought my little Chihuahuas this time and they were treated very well, even had a birthday cake for them which I thought was really sweet so that somewhat made up for the Purple Bikini Fornicator incident.

However the next time I went to Aspen I did stay at one of the other hotels as I would have thought a hotel of the Jerome's caliber would have enough couth to not only not bring that hot tub incident up but to somehow make me feel like I did something wrong reporting these people who were acted very inappropriately in full view of other hotel guests and their children. I miss the Victorian history and elegance of the HJ but luckily have found another hotel where I am not made to feel uncomfortable about other guests' activities. And there they always go out of the way to help me out and be gracious... So my review star-wise is down the middle as it went all over and this is the fairest distribution I can offer of an all over the place experience which should have only been a relaxing ski holiday Aspen style... All the other comparable hotels in town are all short-distanced to the shops and restaurants one would want to go to. Aspen central is a small place easily walked from end to end within an hour or less. With ski boots on but not toward the Hotel Jerome.
