Pittsburgh, PA
What a sweet little hotel! So close to the train/bus station & the capital. Front desk staff was charming and a half! Excellent, yet expensive, room service & tons of minibar treats. Super comfortable bed. Lovely, bright, huge bathroom with separate shower and bathtub. Animal print bathrobes!!! Windows that open!!!! Only thing that would have made the place better was a pool but I settled for steaming myself in the steam room. :) Excellent prices for such a lovely hotel. But beware the snazzy minibar and room service (though totally worth it). Spent more on those than the room itself!

I attended a meeting here last year and have enjoyed the restaurant a couple of times in the past, but since I am a Hilton Honors Diamond member, have always stayed at the Capital Hilton when I visit DC.
I decided to give the Hotel George a try this week and am so glad I did! Great service from the front desk clerks (who gave knowledgable and helpful recommendations regarding the local area), the room was well appointed and immaculate, and the breakfasts were excellent.
Also, the evening wine receptions were very pleasant - nice selections and convivial atmosphere. -

The hotel itself is very accommodating, how ever the front desk service SUCKS How are you going to make me wait 3 hours for rooms that should have been waiting for me. Then tell me that I was suppose to check in every 15 minutes. Are you lazy or do you not want my business?
If your check in by yourself thats fine... If you check in as a group of people go to another hotel this place is terrible.
If the front desk service is bad what about everything else? -

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a single night stay (Sunday to Monday) just yesterday. The staff is extremely helpful and polite. The setup and decor are pretty artsy/trendy, so I particularly enjoyed it. Our bathroom was amazing - A spacious tub and a stand up shower, with some awesome aromatherapy toiletries supplied in the shower. Relaxing was such a breeze in this hotel. They even offer free wi-fi and plenty of cable TV channels, including several HBO movie channels. We ordered room service for breakfast and the food was delicious - A tad overpriced, but we left the hotel on full tummies, so can't complain! This hotel is also pet-friendly. Check in is 3pm and we arrived at 1:30pm, they let us check in early without a problem. Checkout is 12pm and our bus didn't depart until 7:30pm because we still needed the entire day to check out some more sites/museums, the hotel happily held our bags for us while we further explored what DC had to offer. Very helpful and appreciated!
My only complaints about this place are: 1. Our room was FREEZING and there's no way to control the temperature! Although, I guess it's better than being too hot/stuffy. 2. The area is pretty bland. We were starving around 9pm and there was absolutely nothing to eat in a walking distance... Being from NYC, that was a real shock/disappointment... But it IS walking distance (decent at least) from the start of the museums, so that was a plus.
I recommend this hotel, our stay was quite lovely for the most part. -

This place is nice enough. I am here tonight because I am on business after my stay in New York. I really like the decor but the front desk people were a bit hard to communicate with.

The George is the South West Air of hotels, in a good way. It is cheap, clean and very friendly. I also appreciated the marble bathroom and the gym. I ordered a yoga kit for my room just to see what it was. It's free, came in minutes and included a mat, a block, and a strap. Parking is expensive (40/night) and cabs in DC are pricey. But the room itself was under 100 with a AAA discount and drinks were free so all in all, it's a great deal. We would stay there again for sure.

for those that enjoy finding local gems, this is the place to stay. One of the front desk managers did something for me today that completely freed up my afternoon allowing me time to visit DC. Oh, and the rooms are fabulous for such a reasonable price.

The Hotel George did everything it was supposed to do for this weary DC traveler. They were gracious enough on check-in, the room was nicely sized, and the gym was just good enough to scratch the travel exercise itch. Extra points for the Wii in the lobby and refreshing orange-flavored water. I'd have loved to have had the paper out in front of my door in the morning, but they hide them (almost literally) back near the business center in the lobby. Great access to all things government.
Note: there's massive construction going on next door. Yep, it always happens. Don't worry, they don't seem to work at odd hours so don't worry about it. But guess what? It may be your view outside your window as it was for me. Uggggly. -
Review from Sandi P.
We booked 3 nights here through Hotwire for a visit to see daughter who was interning in DC and staying on Capitol Hill. While the hotel was convenient to Union Station and Metro, it was far from many restaurants and attractions we wanted to visit, such as the Chinatown/Gallery area and Dupont Circle.
The hotel itself was a very good value for the price paid. We had 3 adults in a room with king bed. A roll away was provided for daughter and there was ample room. The bathroom was very nice, with a separate tub and glass enclosed shower stall. The vanity was long, but very narrow. I missed having something close by to grab a breakfast pastry but at least there was in room coffee. Do sign up for the Kimpton rewards program in advance as you receive free Internet and $10 credit for mini bar. Prices for mini bar weren't bad anyway but free chocolate is even better! -

Really enjoyed this hotel from the wonderful foyer to the quaint but comfortable room. The amenties were superb and loved the fashionable bathrobes, there fitness center yes small but great its 24 hours with plenty of headphones, fruit and cool towels for after the steam room!
The staff was exceptional and very helpful!
My room didn't offer microwave and only fridge was mini bar which I decided not to get the key for did not want to be tempted :) I was only staying for a night, however if longer would have needed a microwave and such!
I truly appciated the ihome, hooked my phone up and was set! I also the mint body wash was great.
There prices are standard for this area in dc, I paid a fraction of the price at priceline and recieved a standard queen room!
I will be returning! -

This hotel is right around the corner from Union Station and the Capitol. A short walk to many Smithsonian museums, and right near the Metro--this is a great location and a great hotel for families.
We tend (okay, I tend) to pack too much on trips. I was very pleased to discover that the rooms of this hotel are large and comfortable and the closet was tucked next to the TV so our stuff wasn't all over the room. There was a great chair and blanket in the room so we were able to spread out and watch an in-room movie without sitting on top of each other--much needed after a long day of sightseeing. There's plenty of room for everyone to spread out, and the staff is friendly.
We met our friends and their baby for breakfast at the restaurant downstairs, while staying at the hotel and were pleased with the service, speed and friendly staff. Let's face it, not all waiters are nice to people with small children--this restaurant was awesome.
The other amazing thing about this hotel was the rate. We paid less than $140 a night--a steal for a room so large, and such a fantastic location.
Highly, highly recommend. -

This Kimpton site is better than Hotel Rouge, also in DC. All of the things that Kimpton advertises are true here. The staff is friendly and helpful.the rooms are great and the location rules.
I would definitely stay again. -
Review from Jeremy S.
You can't really beat it's proximity to the Hill. The location itself is a bit of a local business wasteland, there aren't a lot of nearby restaurants other than the one in the hotel (which was decent). My room was pretty basic, though quiet and comfortable. I did have a problem turning on the shower and someone had to come up and jury rig it for me. The gym was a little dated and didn't have everything I normally play with (no yoga ball?). For a work trip it was fine and I'd stay here again, but for pleasure I'd seek out something a little more luxe and fun.

When I booked in, I handed over a personal cc as security for incidentals. I specifically confirmed with the clerk that the card for security and that the final bill would be paid by my office. Without authorization from me, they then immediately charged my card for my entire (lengthy) stay.
I called the front desk about it and they said the charge was a mistake and they would undo it. But they never did. It was then a major hassle for me to get reimbursed by my work.
Sad to find such terrible customer service at what is otherwise a decent hotel. -
Review from Travis M.
I just completed a 3 night stay here and my first stay in a Kimpton hotel - talk about great service! The front desk was incredibly polite from the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out. The hotel was very nicely decorated (even had a Wii in the lobby!) and the tv had a ton of channels including like 5 HBO channels! Since I was here over new years that tv got a lot of use the morning after!
The area around the hotel is not so great - it's mostly office buildings and sketchy alleys but there is a metro station within a stone's throw so you can't really complain.
I joined the Kimpton InTouch program before traveling and I highly recommend it. There were many little "freebies" they threw my way for being a member. -

Loved this hotel and locality. It was close enough to the capital and parking was convenient. Upon arriving, the staff was very friendly. The room we were placed in had a weird smell, like onions. When we called to notify them of this issue, they immediately upgraded us to a larger, different room. Our stay here was without any other incident.

Just completed a 5 night stay and I am (as usual) very, very pleased with all things Kimpton..
Very close walk from Union station; The property is clean; with the usual incredible service and friendliness from all of the Kimpton staffers. Bed was comfortable; and they had the down pillows per my preference...
And; again...per Kimpton, the always appreciated free WiFi and hosted wine happy hour were in place...
One thing about this property; is that they do not own the restaurant. So , per contract, the HH is only M-F. On Saturday I arrived back from a *long* day at a conference; and when I saw that the HH was not available; I began some good natured whining about that.
The evening manager, Shauntel, promptly sent me up a bottle of wine.
Definitely the Kimpton touch!!!
One minor complaint...because they do not have their own kitchen...there is no 24 hour room service. For this night owl...that was a bit of a bummer. If ya need chow in the middle of the night...just make sure you have some snacks in the room...
EASY, easy walk to everything, the Mall, the Memorials and Museums..
Would definitely stay again... -

Lucked out booking this hotel via Hotwire at the last minute and let's just say that I was thrilled not to get another Westin. I was excited to find out it was a Kimpton Hotel because I stayed at the Ivy in San Diego and it was amazing!!
Well, it wasn't as great as San Diego... But how can I compare DC customer service to southern California? The rooms are not nearly as chic, in fact, they are more office-like. But hey, tthis is D.C.
I was extremely please with the food quality at Bistro Bis... See my review of the Bistro for more in-depth food coverage. Over night parking is 40.00, typical for this area of town. Convienent walking distance during the day to both capitol hill and Chinatown. At night, I would say take a cab for safety unless you're out with a bigger group. -

I am a HUGE Kimpton Group fan, yes they are, by definition, a chain of hotels, but boutique hotels and nothing like the Marriott's, Hilton's and Hyatt's of the world. That being said, nothing against any of them, I've stayed in PLENTY, but if I had my choice, I would always choose a Kimpton Hotel. Hotel George is a great one in the District (home of Bistro Bis).
I had a meeting here once, which was my first introduction to this particular hotel which is right in the center of Capitol Hill and one block from Union Station; it was a GREAT space to have a meeting. They had all the technology and services that a larger hotel would have, but there was definitely a more personalized touch. One of the meeting attendees had a room there and it was gorgeous. This particular hotel even offers in-room massages. Love that! They also give you a complimentary weekday newspaper delivered to your door, and a complimentary daily shoeshine. It was because of this meeting, resulting in my exposure to this place that I subsequently have stayed in Kimpton Group Hotels whenever possible. Every hotel offers different amenities too so it is always fun to see what each has.Listed in: Bridal TO DO List

Exceptional hotel for business near Capitol Hill- ideal location walking distance to so many of the critical DC attractions.
Bistro Bis, a lovely brasserie style casual French restaurant, is located inside hotel/ adjacent to lobby and they provide the room service including cheese from Artisinal in NYC!
Rm 706 was large with a very comfortable bed, lustrous high thread count linens and a nice work space, not to mention free wifi and a $10 "Raid The Mini Bar" coupon as a Kimpton In Touch member. Hooray!
Only Negatives?
No view at all, my room looked in to an office building with lots of late night workers, so I felt like I had to keep blinds completely shut for privacy.
Although food was very good, prices and delivery charge/ automatic gratuity for room service were fairly high. -

We got a reservation by chance through Priceline, selecting 4-star and the amount we were willing to pay. A great find--almost directly across from the Hyatt a block from Union Station, 3 blocks from the Capitol and a straight 17 block walk to the White House. This is a well-appointed personalized small "boutique" hotel on E Street. The double-sheeted king bed was super comfortable. Marble tile bathroom had a separate shower and bath. All extremely clean except for minor carpet spots. The desk staff were unusually friendly for Washington, and the wine reception at 5:00 was nice, although we only were in the hotel one out of five nights at that time. The only down side to our stay was the lack of a highly rated Yelp breakfast place nearby. For breakfast, try Yelping just a few stops up on the red Metro line at Dupont Circle.

Hotel George gets 5 stars because of it's staff which made my stay so much more enjoyable and because it's home to Bistro Bis. The staff was so helpful, friendly and down to earth. They also remembered me by first name for my entire (3 day) stay.
The rooms are typical Kimpton, where they take care of all the little details to make the stay more comfortable. I too stay at Kimpton properties whenever possible. -
Review from Ben K.
You have to love the Kimpton hotels - great rooms, great service, (usually) great bars and restaurants - and Hotel George is no exception. Being just a short walk from Union Station and many major DC attractions is a big win, and as usual for Kimpton, the rooms are great, and more European style (i.e. not huge and not decorated with gawd awful floral patterns).
The Bisto Bis restaurant/bar downstairs isn't too shabby either. -

Stayed here for two nights while on a combination business and pleasure trip.
I had a really great experience at this hotel. The room was big, clean, and pleasant. The bed was particularly comfortable and the pillows were really nice too. I slept surprisingly soundly.
Internet was fast and reliable (good enough to use for a work web conference), and free if you sign up for the hotel's Rewards program.
Used room service to pre-order breakfast to be delivered in the morning, and that went smoothly too.
Hotel George is walking distance from Union Station (very close) and also a short walk to the mall to see museums and monuments and such.
I had such a nice time at Hotel George, I will definitely consider other Kimpton hotels when traveling. -
Review from Erika B.
The place to stay on Capitol Hill or in walking distance to Union Station. The George stands out among it's peers of large, tourist class hotels on the Hill. If you want business class, this is your best bet.
I truly enjoy the professional, welcoming, and attentive staff at The George. You get the feeling that they like their job and their employer and it shows. They are helpful to event managers and tourists alike.
I have hosted several events here and Tony (the events manager) does them efficiently and personally. He has a great restaurant, Bistro Bis, to draw from for catering. You'll get a personalized and delectable menu that is a head above the rest. I couldnt even talk about The George absent of Bistro Bis. The connected restaurant is a bustling establishment that I liken to an Apres-Ski spot. A great place to catch drinks and excellent food after coming off "The Hill."
For tourists, if you can afford the rather pricey accomodations it will be well worth it. If you sneak a peak at the events menu for the day you'll be able to cross paths with all of the Washington power-players as they host breakfasts, luncheons and dinners in the mezzanine.
The rooms are comfortable with lots of amenities.
A staple of Kimpton Hotels: be sure to take advantage of the complementary wine tastings in the early evenings. -

I stayed here a while ago with my girlfriend, as a date weekend, when I was living in Chevy Chase. It was my first experience with a Kimpton Group hotel, and suffice it to say, we were both very "satisfied."
The concierge took very good care of us, and the room service was outstanding.
If I ever visit another city with a Kimpton hotel, I will make sure to take full advantage. -

Love this hotel!
My husband and I went to the Dave Matthews Band concert at Nationals Park on Friday night and we stayed at Hotel George. Our room was huge compared to any New York City hotel we've stayed in and it was really clean. We paid $179 for a Friday night, which I thought was great for a city hotel.
The location is fabulous. If you're going to see a concert or a game at Nats Park, it's a $10 cab ride. You could also Metro, but there was no way I was Metro-ing in 100 degree heat :)
Hotel George gave us a $10 Starbucks gift card and a $10 credit for our Mini Bar at check-in. We ordered room service for dinner on Friday while we were getting ready and breakfast on Saturday morning. The food was really good. The only complaint I have is that you apparently have to ask for condiments.
I have to mention that I really like that they have these big bottles of shampoo and conditioner because I have really thick hair and I could go through like 10 of those small bottles that hotels usually give you.
There is a parking garage directly across from the hotel that is $20 a night. You should just park there because the hotel will charge you $40 a day for valet parking.
Overall, this was a really great stay and I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. It's a pet friendly hotel also! -

Will stay again next time we are in town: simple decor, great price, 5 min from the capital, awesome service.
The simple act of the desk manager to hand out a small card for milk and cookies to my 4 year old daughter put this place over the top. -

I stayed her last year on a trip to DC with my wife. It was her first time in DC, which is a city I visit often. Usually when I go to DC I am by myself and I stay with friends who live on the Hill. This time we needed a hotel room and this one seemed to get good reviews and was also very close to many of my friends' houses on Capital Hill.
The hotel is within walking distance of many different things. It is close to the Capital and Senate buildings. It is steps from Union Station. Being close to Union station insures that you will never have a lack of transport; whether it is a taxi, the Metro, train, etc. -
Review from Jack F.
If I was comparing the Hotel George against other hotels (like the nearby Hilton or Renaissance) then I'd rate the Hotel George with 4 stars on the Kimpton brand alone. But after staying at so many Kimpton Hotels, I reluctantly admit that the Hotel George falls somewhat short from the typical Kimpton Hotel. Service remains friendly, prompt, and impeccable and the amenities second-to-none but the quality of the hotel itself is sub-par when compared to the lavish Hotel Monaco or the executive-styled Hotel Palomar Arlington. It's an older building where you'll find slower elevators and doors that are difficult to open. The rooms are smaller by comparison as well. Given a choice, I'd still opt for the Hotel Monaco in Gallery-Place Chinatown. [Original Visit: September 1, 2010]

Nice boutique hotel centrally located to the Capitol, Union Station and a reasonable walk to all of the other museums, the White House, etc.
the staff was friendly, the rooms are a nice size and the rate we got was excellent. If I need another hotel in this area of D.C. again I wouldnt hesitate to stay.
Also - free Internet if you sign up for the Kimpton rewards program. -

Not impressed, by George. I was pleased to get a good rate at the George Hotel at the last minute, especially since it was perfectly situated for business I had around near the Capitol.
But my overall experience left me wanting - a lot. The room was sizable, but I am not a fan of hard mattresses. Also, the room had one of those infamous "east coast" air conditioners that sounds like a Panzer tank! So loud in fact, that I had to turn it off to be able to go to sleep. And my room was situated across from the ice maker, so that beast was clunking 24/7. And to add to my luck, the room was close to one of the cleaning staff closets, so staff was going in and out of that at all hours.
The carpet was very dirty when I arrived, and to their credit they sent staff to clean it immediately. However, the decided to wax the bathroom floor at the same time without telling me, and I almost tripped first time in there. The first morning there my key would not work. I decided to spend an extra night in DC -- the night staff said they would give me the same rate as I had gotten online; next morning I called the morning desk to confirm, and he insisted on charging me a higher rate. I eventually got him back down to the online rate, but it was an unnecessary hassle.
The hotel on the whole is classic Kimpton: sleek, trendy, artsy. I for one wish they would spend less on leopard skin bathrobes and more on cleanliness and comfort. But that is a matter of taste, I guess. -

I checked in a little before midnight. I didn't mind that the bellman was inside speaking to the receptionist and not helping me, I can carry my own bags and sometimes like the opportunity to do so.
At the door to the room I was surprised to find my key didn't work. However, I was not as surprised as the woman already in the room who had some stranger fervently trying to open the door of her room at midnight. I was sent to the wrong room/floor.
Anyways, the room is nice but, priced exorbitantly. All in all, would not return. -

I'm a sucker for Kimpton Hotels. I like the art deco and the lay out it was cool. Definitely a hotel for young professionals. I forgot my flat iron and thought it was cool that they had some at the front desk. Nice amenities!!! They even have hair spray at the desk. I wasn't sure if I went to the desk to many times but the staff seem to remember my name.

The view of the office block is nothing special but the room was nice; the hotel is walking distance to Union Station where you can hop on the metro and get anywhere you want, or pick up a touristmobile tour. As such, it served our touristy needs. Would recommend.

I stayed here a while ago before I moved to DC. Let me just say that I wanted to make sweet, sweet love to the plush bedding, the marble bathrooms, the snazzy warhol prints in the rooms, the stylish lobby, the great bar.....ok you're getting my drift. This hotel really delivers beyond the lobby unlike alot of boutique hotels that leave their accoutrement at the elevator doors. Even though this is a pricey hotel, the staff is very warm and welcoming, when you walk in the door they greet you live they have known you for years. Love this place.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hotel George a few weekends ago, and had the best time. It's location is fantastic for visiting the Capitol, the National Mall, etc. It's all well within walking distance, but you can always take the circulator bus for a dollar if your legs wear out.
I was there for a conference that had no space left, and I am so glad! The hotel was clean, bright, and very modern. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. Our room was a bit on the small side, but who needs a big room anyway? The bed was really comfortable, with big fluffy feather pillows (although you can choose foam if you prefer), we were greeted each day with a free paper, and the mini-bar was stocked! The TV was a flatscreen, and there was a 24-hour yoga channel. Sweet! If only it came with a yoga mat to use too!
Two things to note: if you are addicted to coffee, do NOT panic when you go into your room and see no coffee maker! Simply call down to the front desk and ask for a pot to be sent up. And, you can always go for the "for $1 more" option and get the $10 Starbucks card. For each day of my stay, I had a fresh $10 Starbucks card to use. Bought a light breakfast and coffee for my boyfriend and me every day. Even if you don't love Starbucks, you've got to love a bargain! -

The Hotel George is a great choice if you want to be walking distance from the Washington Mall. Good homebase - the rooms are nice enough, good place to eat breakfast, good place to grab drinks, easy to get cabs, close to the train station. Not the coolest nor the nicest hotel in the world, but just what you need if you're in town for a weekend of sightseeing.

I stayed at the Hotel George recently during a business trip. When I went to check in, I realized my reservations had been made for the wrong day, but the staff never seemed put out or annoyed. They offered me a glass of wine while they found me an available room. Even though the mistake was on my company's end, they went out of their way to correct it and ensure that I was taken care of.

Philadelphia, PA
We stayed at the George for a weekend to visit a friend. The bed was deliciously comfortable, the bathroom immaculate, the folks at the desk pleasant without being sappy. We drove down from Philly on a Friday night, and the desk clerk told us we could have valet parking for $40/night (!), but he also advised us that we could park in the garage across the street for half that OR--better yet--park on the street for free. There were plenty of street spaces right across the street from the hotel and that's what we did. No problems.
We grabbed excellent burgers at Bistro Bis's bar that night. That's the restaurant right off the lobby.
The shower--no tub--has plenty of room, lots of hot water, and they provide big plushy animal print robes (does "George" refer to George of the Jungle??).
I can't speak to room service--we didn't use it. But all the staff we encountered were pleasant and helpful.
It's a block or two from Union Station (and the Metro); there's a Starbucks a block away, and a convenience store within a block.
We got a nice room with a king bed for $125/night.
I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
