This beautiful hotel, located between Park Avenue and Madison Avenue on East 54 street in New York City is not just a hotel, but truly a piece of the Big Apple's history.

The hotel has hosted numerous movie stars, artists, writers and intellectuals in its 80+ year existence.

Upon arrival to the Elysee, I was greeted at the front desk by the hotel's friendly and informative staff. They were quick to cover everything that was included in my stay. From where the computer, printer and other business necessities were located to when the free wine was going to be served in the club room.

I was given a great room on the top floor and absolutely loved the decor. It felt like being away at some early 20th century country bed and breakfast. Some of the features in the room that stood out included the beautiful flat screen television mounted on the wall, the comfortable king size bed, i-home mp3 dock/alarm clock radio, and the chandelier on the ceiling!

When you stay at this luxurious 103 room boutique hotel expect a lot of freebies with the rate. When I first got into my room, I needed to check my e-mails.

No problem, because Hotel Elysee is equipped with wireless high-speed internet throughout the entire building. Such a great feature that should be in all hotels already, but sadly is not.

Don't worry if you forgot your laptop. Just simply head down to the second floor and you can access the internet on the hotel's computer. Plus it is installed with a printer in case you need to do some work while on the road.

Speaking of the club room. This is truly as tranquil as you are going to get while staying in the city. It was a rainy Friday afternoon and I was waiting on my wife to arrive from a meeting downtown. So I simply poured a cup of their delicious complimentary coffee (4 different flavors available), snatched some cookies, and relaxed on one of the big comfy couches that offer a view of East 54 street. Very cool spot to hang out with friends, family or alone when you want to get out of the hotel room for a little while.

The lounge area also offers a European style breakfast daily each morning that includes NYC style bagels, fresh fruit, soft muffins, hot & cold cereals, boiled eggs, various juices and much more! Seriously you can have one heck of a meal to start your day before heading out to explore this great city.

After you return from maxing out your credit card at the local shops, be sure to head back to the lounge from 5-8pm for complimentary wines, hors d'oeuvres, and numerous imported and domestic cheeses. I can tell you from experience that nothing beats unlimited wine for three straight hours. I was feeling pretty happy come 8pm and was in my room fast asleep in the room's comfy bed before 10pm.

Your rate also includes a free pass to a nearby New York Sports Club throughout your stay. Some features of NYSC include aerobic, sauna, and cycling. So in between all the free breakfast, wine and cheese that you will be inhaling, at least you can burn off some of the calories for free.

We stayed there for 3 nights.  It's a typical antique style NY hotel.   Only one customer elevator was available in the hotel and it was slow.

The room is spacious and classic.  There is a window in the bathroom and we were amazed by the sunlight coming in every morning and felt like at an old home.   It's not common unless it's in a very old style hotel.

The nicest part was the complimentary wine and cheese tasting every weekday afternoon on the 2nd floor.  It had a good selection of cheese, Italian sparkling, red and white wine.  We both had our favorite havarti with dill and the brie, the French kind with the crust on it.

We checked out the famous monkey bar and also dined in the restaurant for dinner with friends.  Its food was sort of creative Asian fusion style but unfortunately not our type.

Cute and charming.  Slightly Euro.

The staff is generally nice enough, but the front desk needs a little work.  Having worked front desk, I understand the issues behind the position, but please.

Location is excellent.  Couple blocks up to 5th and MECCA: Saks.

They provide you with continental breakfast, afternoon tea, and early evening wine and cheese.  You could stay here and eat all day, no lie.

Rooms are cute, good sized, with excellent beds.

Will definitely go back.

Cute little hotel in the heart of the city.  Not cheap, but worth it for a romantic weekend in the city.
