I've stayed at the Ritz in Paris. But I prefer the Donaldson.
Absolutely lovely hotel that you would never imagine would be in, well, Fargo. Rooms are large, beds are heavenly, and the bathroom is totally awesome with the rainfall shower and all. My room felt like a gallery, with track lighting highlighting local artists' work.
Great desk/work area with a comfortable chair - great place to stay if you're on business or leisure!
4 stars for the food/bar
5 stars for the hotel
Food:
Creative, fun menu with a really unique setting. The Lavosh is my favorite, veggies and havarti cheese on a bubbly cracker bread...YUM!
Hotel:
Best I've ever stayed in. Booked for 2 nights over my wedding - each room is unique and designed/decorated by a local artist. I highly recommend the Waterfall Suite which has a jacuzzi tub in which the water fills from the ceiling. Is about 400+ square feet. The bed was like clouds - the are made from the local "comfort king" and I'm ordering one! Sheets are amazing. Cute little breakfast in the lobby in the a.m. All for $200 a night!
They found a spot for me and I am staying in the most awesome hotel in Fargo on Wednesday. Yahoo!

I am going back in 7 days and they have no rooms available. I am sad because I love this hotel.

Great place to stay. Art in rooms is wonderful and the beds are heavenly! Floors have heat under the tiles-great!
restaurant, not as good, but the bar makes up for that!
Best night sleep in over a month of traveling. The bed was a fluffy cloud. The bathroom had a rainfall shower like I wish I had. Checkout is a lenient noon.
Service is excellent--I left two bags a few days in advance. When I checked in, the bags were waiting in my room.
Some street and train noise, but if you're used to cities, nothing egregious.
This is actually a review of the restaurant/lounge at the HoDo (NOT the hotel, itself). I was visiting a friend on my drive cross-country and we stopped in for drinks. They had a special martini with basil (or some other herb) which was phenomenal and not bad at around $7. We watched a wedding party stop in to say hello. This is a place where you will quickly meet the staff and become friends. Very relaxed and inviting.
