I would never have expected so much from a tiny little hotel on the outskirts of Providence. Okay, so it's not really on the outskirts, but it's in such a quaint area of FH, you might think you're in Amsterdam.
The lobby is tiny, and gave me the impression that this (obviously) converted building might be a complete sh!thole hotel. Imagine my surprise when I walked into a room with a full kitchen (full-size fridge, dishwasher, stove, sink, cutting board, glassware, dishes, microwave, etc) with a small dining table, sofa and TV. Around the corner is an adorable bathroom with whirlpool tub, robe, toiletries... then even further in is the separate bedroom. Yes, not a "studio" bedroom; an actual room away from the kitchen and bath which contains a bed, and yet another TV. Can I move in tomorrow? This is all a person could ever need, even on a long-term basis.
The girl at the desk is so overworked, and is such a cutie. I didn't catch her name, but she has shoulder-length brown hair. She was acting as the valet (in pouring rain) as well as the desk clerk and concierge. She was more than happy to get us the bottle of wine we requested, and to said to please contact her if we needed anything else. She was super awesome.
The rooms are ultra modern, and make you feel like you just stepped into a Design Within Reach showroom. Not my favorite, but it's comfortable nonetheless. I sort of like having a hotel room sans paisley patterns and plastic-y bedspread. I'll also make a note about the pillows: two very firm down (or imitation down), and two contour pillows. PERFECT! And if you think about it, the white-on-white is very environmental. You certainly don't need as many lights on when everything in your hotel room appears to be glowing. Thanks for being Green, Dolce Villa!
I feel a bit confused about writing this review. I was in town on an interview and found the price to be $65/night, which was perfect for my budget. I didnt know much about Providence and was pleasantly surprised that I was in the heart of the italian district. It's a nice place, all white and very ikea feeling inside. Full kitchen, and they upgraded me to a 2 br place with a balcony for free, randomly, but one of the bedrooms didnt have any lighting. So really just upgraded to a balcony. They have a bathtub with little jacuzzi jets. Good for one person I suppose - I didnt have time to try it. One downside is that, for some reason, they have very hard, rough towels. I know its a strange thing to mention but it was a strange thing to experience, honestly. And the bed, all white, had some patches of discoloration and stains and just didnt seem the cleanest. Probably bound to happen with all white, and I didnt find any hairs like someone had mentioned in a review on a different site, but just thought I'd mention it.
The main issue for me, and the reason for the drop from 4 stars to 3 stars is: THE FALSE ADVERSTISING OF THE PRICE. It's $15 extra to park your car overnight because there is no street parking overnight, and with city taxes and who knows what other taxes, it came to about $100 - ALMOST twice what I expected to pay. Now, for $100, what I got was still pretty awesome, but it was just very unfairly advertized. That was my biggest issue. If I was on vacation or with family and stayed here for $100/night, no big deal. But I was specifically trying to stay within a very low budget because of all the travelling I have to do, and it really pissed me off when I got my final bill.
I might recommend it to families visiting but its not particularly cosy inside, and beware random additional charges. It's probably better for young couples taking a weekend away or something.
Large, comfortable rooms at great rates and a great location on Federal Hill. Staff was super helpful and fulfilled every request.
One minor annoyance with the white on white color scheme, white's very reflective which means you'll accidentally turn on the living room/kitchen television while you're in the bedroom on a comical basis. It's good for a few laughs though.
I'm not going to lie, I was pretty impressed with this place. I booked same day and got a killer rate at $59 for the night. I was slightly off put by the fact that I had to carry my bags up two flights of stairs (there's no elevator), but whatever. My room was very spacious - full kitchen, sofa, small dining table, queen bed, small desk, sidetables and a large bathroom with jacuzzi tub. I'll say the decor leaves something to be desired, and the fact that my room was drenched in lemon disenfectant was less than ideal. But, the staff was amicable and the location was adorable. If I find myself in Providence again, and this hotel is inexpensive comparable to other hotels in the area, then I'll definitely stay here.
I found a room using a hotel search website, and it was dirt cheap, so I can't really complain! The room was very clean, but the white on white decor isn't exactly my thing. It's right in the heart of federal hill and it was a great place to crash for the one night I was there!
