82 reviews for Hotel deLuxe
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
We originally stumbled upon Hotel deLuxe when my girlfriend's former coworker from the east coast stayed there and we met at the lobby bar. The place stood out in our mind so much that years later when it came time to look for a place for our wedding reception. We checked out a lot of places around town, but came back to Hotel deLuxe due to the amazing decor in the place.
The hotel staff was amazing, all of our guests loved the venue, they loved their rooms and I can't imagine anything that could have been made better that was under their control. I think Hotel deLuxe made for the least stressful part of our entire wedding planning and the wedding day itself.
This hotel is a beauty, the rooms may not be 1500 square feet...but it is a truly classic hotel. The original style door knobs, tile work and decor is fitting of a "classic" hotel and was exactly what we were going for. All of the out of town guests kept talking about how great the place was.
During the wedding reception the staff accommodated all changes in the schedule and adapted to our needs without flaw. If I was going to plan another big event, HdL would be at the top of the list for places to consider. We had our reception in Gracies, which is normally the restaurant. We used the room next door as our private bar for our guests. They allowed us to have a special cocktail and the bartender executed it flawlessly.
Top notch place, beautiful decor, great location and the best staff in town. How can you get any better? I just need an excuse to go back!
I've stayed here five times and every visit has been truly outstanding.
The stately property drips 1940's Hollywood glamour without being fruity or campy. It has a natural regal quality which is wonderful!
What I love about Portland is that for a small city, it certainly has a plethora of wonderful accommodations. And as much as I love many of the property, I believe the Hotel Deluxe to be the best.
Valet, Housekeeping, and the Front Desk always perform flawless. Aveda products, flat screen with a terrific menu of stations and movies, Chic decor with a sense of humor, and all an homage to Hollywood. The property, like a good movie, transports you to another place and time.
The standard rooms can be a bit small, but the suites are not much more and well worth the extra coin!
Other positives are the intimate stylish lounge that has superior drinks and a very attractive happy hour.
The only take-away for the hotel is the location, which stuck in limbo between downtown and the Nob Hill. Still , its a nice walk to pioneer square (Portland's city blocks are smaller than most. And the property is directly on the light rail train and across from the baseball quaint baseball stadium.'''
Polished and Positively Posh!
The hubby and I needed to get away, and airline tix were just too spendy at the time. So I decided that we should hit downtown and take advantage of what our fair city has to offer. A few boutique hotels have popped up over the past few years, and I wanted to experience one of them. Hotel deLuxe got the best Yelp reviews, so that influenced my decision.
We got a screaming deal on the King Deluxe, because they had a misprint on the website (that boo boo is gone now, we just got lucky!) Yelpers have mentioned small rooms, but our room was not too small or large; the king size bed didn't seem to overpower the space. I was impressed that they kept the old cast iron bathtubs, and it was CLEAN! I loved the decor, not overdone and kitschy.
The staff was gregarious and helpful. We got free valet parking in our deal, and no request seemed too large. We had happy hour in the Driftwood, and it was a nice beginning to a great night. Highly recommended.
We stayed here over New Years. Location is prefect. You do have to pay for parking either valet (parking across the street) or in the garage. Trying to find a parking spot on the street isn't worth the hassle.
The staff was very friendly and very helpful. The service was impeccable. I really loved how the minute we pulled our car up in the loading zone someone was there immediately to help.
The room was very small, but even so it was very clean and decorated quite nicely.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.
Loved the bar and Gracie's restaurant as well.
I know I said 4.5 stars for the last visit, but now I'm gonna say this place deserves a full five stars and then some.
I was here again this December and it was the perfect stay. I got the room through Priceline for an insanely cheap price. The staff was so welcoming, again, eager to answer any questions I had. I think they could see how tired and hungry I looked when I checked in and were quick to suggest happy hour at their bar- yay for 1/2 priced meals. :) The room was the same as last time around, petite but cozy enough for me. And late night room service was available this time! That mac and cheese helped made a great ending to a wonderful evening. Staying at Hotel deLuxe makes me love Portland more and more with each visit.

You are so close to perfect, Hotel DeLuxe and if there was a 1/2 or 3/4 star I could use here, I… Read more »
The location of Hotel Deluxe is good in terms of access to the city. But as others have mentioned, you will need to pay for valet service ($20 a day), otherwise you will almost certainly have trouble parking. I found the valet staff to be exceptionally professional and friendly. Come to think of it, all hotel staff fit this description.
Pluses: our hotel was very neat and clean and the cleaning staff were impeccable. Now this may sound creepy (maybe it is), but each of the four days we stayed there I'd come back to our room at night to find my travel toothbrush RE-ASSEMBLED for me over the sink! Either a friendly ghost or an obsessive-compulsive maid had my back. There is a small safe in the bedroom where you can store your valuables.
There is a dining hall on the first floor which serves pretty good American food at reasonable cost.
Minuses: weak water pressure in the shower : ( Apparently they are trying to conserve water/money. The shower nozzle has a lot of holes, spread out, to make it look like you're being hit with lots of water, but the stream is slow and weak. So the shower took twice as long as usual. Also, there's no fridge. Or at least not one you can access unless you want to buy an alcoholic beverage. But overall we had a terrific stay with the help of a thoughtful, friendly and efficient staff.
The lobby was gorgeous, the staff was fantastic, the room beautiful... but smelled of old cigarette smoke. Thought I could handle it until I woke up in the middle of the night and it hit me. My sleeping partner had a hoarse voice in the morning. The front desk says they charge $200 for smoking transgressions and the only thing I can figure is that housekeeping smokes and couldn't smell it. Kinda took away from the stay a bit, but I'm hopeful that it is a one-time occurrence.
You can definitely hear the MAX from the rooms, but it's not super disturbing.
I swear I saw Cary Grant roaming around in the lobby. This hotel does an amazing job of transporting you back to a more elegant time. The lobby is totally glamorous, with period-correct furnishings and an art deco color scheme. The rooms are luxuriously simple and the bed linens super soft.
Each floor is dedicated to a different director or group of directors. It's great to roam the floors checking out the vintage movie stills on the walls. This is definitely a hotel for a special occasion and I hope to be back!
Wow - this hotel is phenomenal - amazing service in a very small space, AND a great value! Checked in on Thanksgiving day, and was greeted with Thanksgiving buffet.
Hotel service is incredibly friendly, helpful, and expedient. We needed an early check-in, and were able to check-in before noon. We also upgraded our King room for an additional $20 - if this room is bigger, I can't imagine how small the original room we had was!
Bedding and pillows are very cozy. All of the accoutrements in the room are nice - fabulous TV, great in-room snack and beverage selection, nice little areas- like a full-sized sofa and nice desk.
The hotel is right in the middle of a neat little district that's completely accessible by public transit - all great things! Be sure to check it out!
Great spot in a really central location.
You can take the Max light rail directly from the airport and it drops you off a block away.
The rooms are small but if your spending that much time in the room
you should stay in the suburbs.
We didn't rent a car but for a few hours to go to the Columbia but if you need one there is an Enterprise a block away.
You can walk to the Pearl, Nob Hill, Downtown and even across the river without much effort.
The staff was nice and the two spots in the hotel(bar and restaurant) looked really good.
This hotel was absolutely charming with impeccable service and an awesome bar and restaurant. We stayed here 3 nights and enjoyed how close the hotel is to the MAX. It's nice, because the hotel is just outside of the downtown district, keeping it quieter, but it's definitely close to everything. My only complaint was that the bathrooms were a bit cold, but other than that, everything was perfect. Calls for more coffee, different pillows, more towels, etc/whatever were attended to in no time at all. I would definitely stay here again.
Keep an eye out on Twitter for last minute specials!
Great door and front desk service. The lobby is very posh, even though I swear I saw some of the same decor at Target. The elevator is beautiful. The rooms are clean and almost minimalist, as they should be because they are on the small side. The bathrooms are fantastically classic, which means again they are on the small side. Without parking, our rate was $115.00/night. We'd recommend this hotel for guests who don't need that much room space. The hotel restaurant is a bit pricey, but what hotel restaurant isn't. Parking is a little hard to find in the mornings.
The rooms are awesome, the vibe is pretty swanky, the employees are extremely helpful, and the Driftwood Inn (hotel bar) is classic. The location is great and parking was easy. They have valet and a garage nearby, but I used street parking at night (free) and used the garage during the day. If you're in the garage before 10.30, it's $6 all day. I would get up and move the car before the meters started (7.30 or so) and leave it in the garage until after dinner. The price was perfect for a King Deluxe and we even got a great deal on an extra day. The room was small but cozy and well decorated. The housekeeping, valet, and front desk were on top of things at all times. Definitely a boutique hotel worth visiting.
Everything you would want in a hotel plus an attractive classical movie theme with matching music. Definitely one to return to.
This is really a top-notch place, especially for the price! I booked through their website and took advantage of the pre-paid discount. It was really a very good deal.
Everything from the moment I arrived was handled superbly. The bell boy grabbed my suitcase and carried it up the stairs as soon as I got to the door. The staff (in the gorgeous lobby) had me checked in quickly and I was on my way up to my top floor room.
I had a Queen Deluxe room (don't let the fancy name fool you, it's their cheapest room). As many others have pointed out, the room was definitely small. I wouldn't want to share a room of that size with another person unless we were literally not going to be in it except to sleep. I think we'd step on each other's toes. But I was all by my lonesome, and it was perfect for me.
The bathroom was just right. It had a pedestal sink with a glass shelf over it. The mirror above it was angled downward, which is perfect for making sure your butt looks good in those new jeans before you head out on the town. The tub looks deep, but the overflow drain (what is that thing actually called?) was pretty far down it so I don't think you'd really get that much water in it if you fancied a bath. There was a window in my bathroom.
The room was clean and very well decorated. Each floor has a theme (mine was some directors I can't really remember and I forgot to take a picture) and the photos in the room were movie stills. In addition to the bed there were two nightstands, a dresser (which houses the mini bar and a small safe) a table and a single chair and some other piece of furniture holding the non-chilled mini-bar stuff. The closet was surprisingly huge in my room. The clock/radio on one nightstand had an iPod dock and there was a flat panel LCD TV (maybe 30-ish inches?) on the dresser.
I had a nice view of downtown Portland. Even though the hotel is between two MAX (light rail) lines I didn't really hear anything. My room was very quiet. The window didn't seem to open, unfortunately. The A/C worked well and wasn't overly noisy.
There are a number of "menus" you can order from: you can order pillows of your choice, an iPod pre-loaded with the genre of your choice, the religious text of your choice... and of course room service. I only used the pillow menu, and my requested pillows arrived promptly. The "firm" weren't as firm as I would have liked, so next time I'll go with "extra firm".
I didn't visit the bar or restaurant so I can't comment. The fitness center was small, with 3 cardio machines, a weight bench and dumbbells and an exercise ball. It does have a TV, towels and a water cooler.
My only complaint is that the curtains didn't really fit together well, so I couldn't block out all the light. I actually had to sleep on the far side of the bed to avoid having a beam of light on my face in the morning. Minor really, but it would be nice if the curtains overlapped better.
All in all this place is Classy with a capital C. The facilities and staff are top notch. The location is good--not right downtown but easily accessible. Just be aware of the potential room size issue. It sounds like there is a lot of variance in the rooms, so if you're in doubt call the hotel to make sure you get the right combination of size and view for you.
Size doesn't matter. It's really more what you do with what you've got, right? You know, it's not the size of the ship...
What I'm trying to say is that despite the small rooms and tiny bathrooms, the fantastic service and great price make Hotel deLuxe a winner in my book. You know, motion of the ocean.
At least that's what I'd like to think.
Lovely hotel with great staff in good location in Portland. The rooms are compact (think European), but they are so nicely decorated that it really doesn't matter. The bed and comforter are luxurious. The AC is great. The towels are the softest ever. They have a pillow menu: You can literally ask them to bring up pillows of different levels of softness and/or can request a body or neck pillow. Oh, and an iPod menu with pre-loaded selections such as hip-hop, jazz, or soundtracks.
The valet parking guys were a kick (great personalities) and always helpful. Same with the front desk.
Why not 5 stars? They didn't tell me when I booked that there were parking fees, they had one-ply scratchy toilet paper, and the compact bathroom didn't have space for my toiletries to be handy. But seriously, they are close to 5 stars and I'd recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Portland.
There's a lot to like about Hotel deLuxe, and with a killer promo for $99 including parking, we had to give it a try. What I love about the place is the style. Many chain hotels are visually stimulating as a grey Northwest sky. But Hotel deLuxe takes the cinema theme and expands upon it throughout the hotel - everything from the pictures in the lobby to the names of cocktail in the bar to each of the floors. The rooms are on the small side, but very nicely updated with high-thread count sheets, LCD TVs, and Duravit sinks. Toiletries from Aveda are also a very nice touch. Location wise, Hotel deLuxe is very centrally located although the immediate surroundings are a little sketch. But it's a short train/car/cab ride to the Pearl District or Northwest, or just hang out at the tres cool Driftwood Room downstairs.
Although this is overdue I feel like I should write a review for this hotel and tell everyone how much I loved it. I stayed here back in March 09 for 3 nights and I fell in love with this place. If I were going to stay in Portland again I would love to stay here. The rooms are clean, service is knowledgeable and friendly, and the decor of the hotel is so sweet.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to any one I knew that was going to be traveling through Portland.
For the past 2 years I had heard about this hotel and how amazing it is, and finally got the chance to stay here last weekend when I came down for a concert. It was everything I had hoped it would be.
The staff was incredibly friendly, and super helpful. The place is decorated 1950's style with pictures from old black and white movies. The room was kind of small but not a big deal since it was only for one night. They have all kinds of amenities- like a pillow menu, and if you forget your iPOD they will send one up with whatever you want to listen to on it. There was a huge flat screen TV, and when we walked in for the first time, the radio was on a jazz station which gave the place a nice retro feel.
I will definitely stay here again- hopefully soon.
Well, we spent most of our time in the bar. We really, realllllly liked the bar.
That said, the hotel itself was lovely, the room was sublime, the people were really nice & helpful. Breakfast was scrumptious. I'd give it 5 stars, but I dunno. It was missing some kind of fortuitous, cosmic something. Maybe if one of the doormen had tongue-kissed me? I dunno. Something.
Great hotel, great location and great staff.
Stayed here in July and really enjoyed it. The rooms are a little on the small side, but for the price, the service is awesome. Also, the staff was really friendly and went above to ensure we were happy. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
I very much enjoyed my stay at this hotel.
At first I was taken back by the size of the rooms. This is an older hotel that is very well appointed...but if you are looking for expansive rooms with zero character, I would suggest the Embassy Suites. However, if you are looking for superior service in a great part of town, i would highly suggest this hotel.
The Deluxe is within walking distance to PGE park, the Pearl district and many restaurants and shops.
The Driftwood Bar is dark and cozy. I did not try Gracies...although if the menu is anything like the service... it should be fantastic.
I would encourage the Driftwood to review their wine by the glass selection. There are so many great wines in the Northwest but I found their selection to be mediocre.
The price is right here too. This sort of luxury is rarely so inexpensive.
One last thing, I would also encourage the hotel to have a story book in the lobby. This was once the Mallory Hotel and I would like to know more about the history. When was it built? Has anyone famous stayed there? Are there any great stories? Ghosts?
What can I say? Hotel Deluxe kicks ass _and_ is ridiculously cheap. You can't really do any better. The retail rates were around $110/night, but by using http://lastminute.com I managed to get a room for about $80/night. The hotel is, for all intents and purposes, about as good a luxury boutique hotel as you can get.
Pluses: Awesome decor, everything is clean and in good repair, bathrooms that satisfied my lust for porcelain and chrome, and aveda bath products. On top of that, helpful staff, great in-house dining/bar, and a free room upgrade after my initial room faced in towards another wall of the hotel.
Minuses: Only one - this place is dry as all hell! I kept my windows open all weekend, and felt parched at all times.
Maybe I'm jaded coming from San Francisco, but Hotel Deluxe just seems to be a ridiculously high value for what you get. Highly recommended.
I've stayed at quite a few boutique hotels. Older places that have done "refurbishments" and tried to re-invent themselves to attract new clientele. So I was truly pleased when I came to the Hotel deLuxe how superbly they have created this hotel.
I booked a one night stay as a birthday surprise for my boyfriend and he was taken aback when we pulled up to the front of the hotel and was immediately greeted by the cheery valet. We walked in and the decor was so nicely appointed. Lush fabrics, muted color scheme with light gold accents, and fantastic lighting. The front desk was always accommodating and helped with all questions we had cheerfully and promptly.
The room was FABULOUS! It was a corner king on the sixth floor with windows on two of the walls giving the room this glorious warm glow. The bed was soft and supportive, the pillows were cushy and lovely and the linens were crisp and decadently soft. The bathroom was clean and nicely appointed with wonderful fixtures that tied in discreetly with the Old Hollywood movie theme. Nothing overly designed in the room, only items you needed in wonderful textures and colors for your eyes to feast on.
We order from the iPod menu and used the infamous "Make It So" button to get it. They said it would take about 15 minutes to arrive, but less than 5 minutes later the bellboy had arrived with the iPod we requested and even offered to plug it in and show us how to use it. Now that's service!
We had drinks at the Driftwood bar and we are so glad we did! We met Mike the bartender and not only did he mix some wonderfully crafted libations, he also was a great conversationalist and gave two top notch suggestions of bars to try that were in walking distance. We also sampled the late night Happy Hour fare in the Driftwood, myself having the Mac & Cheese (absolutely sublime!) and he having the steamed mussels (OHMYGODGOODNESS!). I'm not a mussel fan AT. ALL. But I tried one of my bf's mussels and I almost stole the whole plate away from him!!! So tender and steamed to perfection with a light wine and garlic sauce with NO fishy taste to speak of! I would journey back to the deLuxe just for the mussels!!!
Overall this hotel is top notch in my book. If I could give it 10 stars I would! My only complaint was that I had made my reservation using their pre-payment rate and about 1 week before our arrival they released a sale on Twitter for $9 more than I paid that included valet and Wi-Fi in the room. I called the hotel to see if they could change the reservation so I didn't have to pay the $25 valet fee, they refused as the reservation could not be changed due to it's type. That was disappointing, but other than that blemish, the hotel and it's staff are as good as it gets! They have a repeat customer in me!
So, Valentines day was planned for me.. I didnt know what we were doing all day but I did plan my own surprise for the end of the night.
After the day was said and done, I said I wanted to go to a bar and that I had one in mind in a hotel downtown. He said "sure!" and we headed there.
When we arrived, valet was very nice and boy was he surprised when I said "yes, we are checking in" to the valet chick!
I walked up to the counter and let them know who I was and they were like "Oh yes!" I had been going back and forth with them via e-mail for a couple of weeks and they replied quickly and answered all my questions.
So, yes, I loved that all the front desk staff knew who I was, they honored all my wacky requests and put up with my freaking out about every detail.
We got up to the room to find rose pedals all over the bed, music on and tea lights!! It was just beautiful.
The Driftwood bar downstairs was a nice treat. It was dark and cozy in that super sexy I wish I was smoking a cigar way. The bartender was nice and made an excellent martini.
After our bit at the bar, we went back up to the room and ordered a movie. The bed was cozy! and they have this button called "make it so" ...so we thought we would see what we could get! and they brought up a reading pillow (that I totally wanted to steal) and 2 forks (We had gotten our dinner to go...since he was expecting to go straight home)
Other things on the "make it so" ...iPods with premade playlists....more pillow options...and I think just about anything you could want...
In the morning, we relaxed in the room and took nice baths and then headed down to Gracies for brunch.
The menu was basic but not over priced like I had been expecting. They had BOTTOMLESS MIMOSAS!! BOTTOM LESS MIM O SA!! haha
I was in love from that moment...haha
But seriously, it was worth the cash (it was a bit more expensive than I should have spent..but I knew that) ..we had a wonderful time and the staff is amazing.
Thank you Caitlin and Victoria! (I hope I spelled that right)
What a great hotel! Our room was very spacious and the bed very comfortable. The location is really close to Max (public transit) and an easy walk to the Pearl District.
ALL of the staff was very nice and accommodating. We did not have an opportunity to eat in their restaurant but the little hotel bar reminded me of a little speakeasy from the 30's. Had a cocktail and chatted with the bartender about Portland. Very cool little spot.
I would recommend staying at this hotel.
I love grand cream-colored leather headboards.
I suppose I could leave it at that.
But I won't.
Because I also love clear crystal lamps, teal accent decor, and sweeping views of my lovely city.
And the Driftwood Room is a great hotel bar. I'll come back to write my memoirs (of which I'll surely have several). More likely just to drink.
But mostly I loved the Hotel deLuxe because I felt on top of the world on my birthday. The staff was super nice and everything was perfectly glamorous but with just the touch of restraint that I very much appreciate.
I will say...don't try to order room service at 3am. They'll offer you soup or a cheese plate and you'll be like, "Uh, it's 3am. You must know that we don't want soup. Hamburger, friend?"
And they'll be like "Sorry y'all."
And you'll be like "Oh I so sad," but then you'll fall asleep and forgive.
Is it Feng Shui? Crystal energy? Perhaps they have one of those Sacred G sheets under the bed.
No matter what it is, this is one of my all time favorite hotels and I can't really describe exactly what it is that makes me so happy when I stay here. Maybe it's the ridiculously comfortable beds, maybe it's the real mugs they provide with the semi-decent coffee maker in the room, or maybe it's the fact that room service doesn't try to violate you with an immoral markup on the food service.
Whatever it is I always choose to wrap myself up in one of their comfy bathrobes and make Hotel deLuxe my home away from home when I'm visiting Portland.

I stayed here for two nights while attending a CLE at the Multnomah Athletic Club. My first impressions of the hotel were quite good. The lobby was beautifully decorated. The valets were friendly, and check in went smoothly. I was disappointed when I arrived at my room. It was small, but I can overlook that--it was just me, after all. But the view. Oh, God, the view. I was looking at the other wing of the hotel--a fabulous view of brick and windows. The bathroom was small, but was keeping with the theme of the hotel, and had a 1930s/1940s feel to it. I wished there was a vanity--it is so hard to put in contacts and do makeup with just a pedestal sink and a window sill.
The fitness center consists of one treadmill, one recumbent bike, and one elliptical machine, plus one weight bench and a few free weights. It served its purpose. Room service from Gracie's was adequate, but they really do have a limited menu, considering how few restaurants are within walking distance. The bed was way, way too soft. I am stiff and sore today--ugh. The wireless internet was complimentary. Parking was $25 night. The sign on the entrance to the garage says $19 for overnight, so I'm guessing that's the price for taking advantage of the valet service. And, as usual, stay away from the mini-bar.
Overall, the customer service was excellent, the rooms are clean and comfortable, if on the small side, and the location near the MAC was great. However, if I had it to do over again, I would have stayed at a hotel elsewhere in town near the MAX and hopped on that to get to the MAC.
Great place at a great price.
Just in case you don't know what "European Room" means, it means small. If you can get over the cramped rooms, this place is a great find. The bed, linens, etc are all super clean and really high quality. There are menus for pillows, ipods, or spiritual books - random, but kinda cool.
The hotel feels slightly disconnected from downtown being on the other side of 405, but it's only steps from Powell's and many other Portland destinations. If you can get a good rate like we did, I absolutely would go back.
I was here for a holiday party and was very impressed! I walked in the door and immediately felt under dressed heh.
We had a banquet kind of thing and the food was amazing. The service was fabulous and the bartenders made my kind of drinks!
I didn't get to see any of the rooms but I heard very good things from the people that were staying there. If I lived further, I'd totally stay at this hotel if I was in Portland :)
We (me and my two gal pals) got to stay here over the weekend. We got a great rate (25% off) through the Events Coordinator for the night because we were in town to check out the hotel as a wedding venue (as I've heard so many other fantastic things via Yelp).
We got there late at night after a late start from Seattle. I'm not sure of the valet just didn't want to have to go and park my car, but he started telling me about how I could park on the street (free until 8 am the next morning), or park myself in the parking garage across the street (for a mere $5 less than that they charge). Okay, it's 10 PM, I don't know where I am, I just drove 3 hours in the rain, and I want you to valet my car. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK?
We get to the front desk and there is only one person working. She's trying to help another guest figure out where to eat (as in the next day). She didn't acknowledge us once. The other guest even told her that she should help us check-in first because she still had several other questions for us. Lauren (that was her name) spent the next 10 minutes talking to said guest, directing her to restaurants of which she did not know the name. The whole conversation more or less consisted of "I can't remember the name of it is, but it's somewhere on X St." Okay, so not only have you totally blown us off, but you're not being useful to the other guest at the lobby either!
We finally got checked in. In a very rushed fashion, I was given my room keys and pointed to the elevator. Not discussion on rate, room, check-out time, breakfast, or anything. Just give me your name and credit card, here are your keys. Peace out. Uh, thanks.
The room was awesome. Which in some ways made up for the fact that the valet and front desk staff suck. What happened to providing good customer service? I thought this was a "nice" hotel. We had a corner room with two queen beds, which was spacious and clean. The beds and pillows were very comfortable and I would totally have strapped one to the top of my car to take home if I thought I could get away with it.
The next morning I woke up incredibly sick. Nauseated with a headache and the desire to just roll back over back into bed. Got up to go to breakfast downstairs at Gracie's (using my 10% off coupon, I figured if these people are catering my wedding, I should at least try the food). I asked the front desk for some drugs, got denied. Apparently, they don't give out packets of medicine for things like headaches or antacids. But I was informed that I could go back to my room and check out the mini bar/basket to see if there was anything in there I'd like to purchase that might help me out (although they had no idea what was in said basket).
The only thing that "saved" my horrible experience with the staff was their Event Coordinator, who was very hospital, helped score me a packet of antacids (after arguing a little with the b*tch behind the front desk and speaking to her boss). The place is absolutely beautiful and great for smaller weddings (under 60). Gracie's, their restaurant, is absolutely gorgeous with beautiful detailing on the walls and ceiling. I highly recommend their venue if you're looking for elegant and classical.
The rates are a bit high for Portland (based on the few venues I've seen). However, the event staff is great (which is less than what I can say for my experience with the front desk) and the space is gorgeous. They're very willing to work with your budget (within reason) to help pull off the dream event. You can also request to use their rooftop terrace in the building across the street as well.
I would rate the facilities 5 stars easily, but the bulk of the staff just so-so. Overall 4 stars because let's be honest, how often do you really need the staff beyond check in and check out anyway? Just don't get sick.
We found a jewel in the middle of the city. This hotel is FABULOUS! A group of us stayed here over the LaFemme International Pageant weekend (To most-Labor day weekend) I arrived earlier than my partner and they had a room available at 9am so after my early morning departure from SF I was able to unpack and enjoy a huge portion of my day.
The staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable to my needs (UPS store and on site Alterations) close by. The Max took me from the airport to PGE ballpark just 3 short blocks away. and the same going the other direction. It is centrally located and mostly walkable to the 21st street restaurants and shops as well as 23rd street.
The sheets and pillow were a dream and we slept so well as it was quiet at night and no large Anime or basketball conventions. Room service, Valet and the on site restaurant were a bonus. After the pageant the front desk attendant even helped us with ordering a pizza. Perfect timing to get out of face and sit around reminiscing the night then off to bed.
Our friends made a reservation for next year upon check out. It was that good. I'll look into it a little later. The MARLENE DIETRICH SUITE with the round bed is looking pretty sweet.
The price was a tad on the higher end for one person to pay but well worth it. If two people are splitting the cost it's a steal. One thing is pre-pay if you know for sure you will be staying. It will reduce your cost.
Hmm?? I'm a little disappointed as I usually trust my fellow yelpers, but I have to admit that I was slightly disappointed with Hotel de Luxe. I mean, it's a nice hotel and if my expectations were lower, I might have given it 4 stars, but with all these great reviews, I was really expecting something "cool." Unfortunately, what I found was a super small bathroom and a pretty small room in general. The lobby was sort of neat and the halls were interesting with all the artwork from old movies, but to be honest, it felt slightly "The Shining"ish...in other words..spooky. Also, there's not much of a lobby or hotel bar and the fitness center was tiny. Although it was pretty close to the Peart District, it was still a bit of a walk compared to the Embassy Suites or Hotel Monaco.
Am I Awake? Am i Dreaming? Am i staying at a fancy hotel? YES! Iam.
My father was able to book me a room here last year as i visited my best friends wedding. I wasnt sure what I was getting in for since it was my first time in Portland but my god did my jaw drop as i entered. I felt like i was going back in 1950s theme with the bell hop gentlemen opening the doors in slow motion as the piano man played his tunes in the dining/bar area.
I gulped a bit more as I gathered my *holy crap i wonder how much my dad spent* kind of gesture. The staff there was AMAZING, the front desk people were able to help me by phone on directions to arrive there, they were so friendly. I arrived to my room and each hallway had a directors quote from a movie he/she had made, i loved it!
The room was MARVELOUS! Very colorful and extremely comfy. The bed wasnt hard and the pillows were made for your own pleasure. You could even call and order different kinds of them.
The best part about all this, the room was NOT expensive at all. It is why along with the amenities, looks, and price that I give this hotel a five star rating.
I totally enjoyed my stay here! What an awesome hotel!
Super cute, Old Hollywood themed hotel right off SW 15th and Morrison. Lots of glamour, gold, and old Hollywood photos make you feel like you're stepping into a really swanky time warp!
The rooms here are cute as well! Yellow and mint, with accents of gold.. still got that deco theme going on, along with giant flat screens because it is 2008, after all..
Aveda Products in your 'loo (Score!) and Torrefazione coffee for your morning cup.
Super informative, nice, helpful staff. Lovely hotel.. can't wait to stay there again!
Hotels as a whole are the ultimate masquerade.
Few people take the time to consider that in every hotel, behind the plush designer throw pillows and an abundance of iPod radio's lies an underbelly that is much less than appealing.
Trays of half eaten food left on carts in service elevators, chipping paint and broken molding in the staff hallways, inappropriately dirty sheets spinning in washers the size of my car and strange smells coming from the kitchen are a common reality - though always a sight unseen. It's amazing - and equally pathetic - how carefully guarded the facade can be at some locations.
I've never stayed at the Hotel Deluxe though everyone I know who has has cited excellent experiences. My experiences with this Hotel - and most others in Portland - are all work related and I'm writing this solely to say that I believe it speaks volumes about a business when the staff is as cordial to those who supply it, as their guests. It's a phenomenon not shared by the competition. Where other hotel's "high and mighty facade guarding' front desk staff choose to peer down their noses at the first realization that you're not staying the night, the staff of Hotel Deluxe maintains a cool composure, is extremely friendly and consistently helpful. They're an absolute pleasure to interact with and for that reason alone, I'll continue to recommend them to out-of-towners looking for a place to stay.
Such a lovely stay! I took my husband here on his birthday and hotel DeLux was perfect! The esthetic is beautiful and the rooms with views are extra special. The location is great, lots of fun in walking distance! This hotel offers some great little extra touches like ipods pre-loaded with tunes of different genres and pillow options. We didn't try the food, because the restaurant and bar were so empty we thought better to go somewhere else. It could have just been the time we were there.... I advise asking the nice staff about room recommendations, because they really do vary in size and view depending on where you are. Our room was quite large, but I did get a chance to see a couple other rooms in the same price range and they were small, as other reviewers have noted.
Stayed at the Hotel deLuxe for my wife's 30th birthday and had a wonderful stay. I selected one of their suites, since we were going to be having friends visit over the course of the evening. The room was great and the service was even better. The staff was very accommodating and didn't seem to mind the constant coming and going throughout the evening and into the early morning, which surprising when you see the collection of miscreants we call friends...
The hotel's location could not have been better, as we were close enough to get anywhere via a quick taxi ride.
Loved the bar downstairs...very old school and the drinks were fabulous!
