2 reviews for Hotel California
I ended up having one of the most restful and spectacular holidays of my life at this place - not some overpriced, over-indulged spa or resort, but a super "joint" of a hotel. Terrific pool - small, but a great place to lay in the sun, read a book and cool off in between chapters. The rooms are very clean - again, not the Four Seasons or the local W, but excellent value for excellent comfort.
I will stay at the Hotel California whenever I visit Palm Springs. (Unless someone is paying to put me up elsewhere.)
This is a small and modest hotel with only 17 rooms that is very close to downtown Palm Springs. My friend worked with the owner and all of her friends to get all of the rooms booked up on a Saturday night. He allowed her to decorate around the pool, bring in a keg, use the bar next to the pool, bring in a buffet of food, and a DJ to celebrate her birthday there. We had a great time even though it was hot as hell in Palm Springs that day. The rooms were very quaint and CLEAN! The owner Welton does everything by himself, I think. There is also a nice kitchen area with cereal, a waffle machine, etc to make breakfast in. A couple of downsides: 1) we had to turn the music off at 9:30 which was understandable considering that there a multifamily apartment building was right behind the hotel. 2)I found out that my friend got charged a significant amount for two bathrobes that no one remembers even being in the room. So make sure you take note of what is in the room when you get there and when you leave.
