I refuse to stay anywhere other than Hotel Boheme when in San Francisco.  Unless my work is putting me up, then I don't really have a choice in the matter.  And once I had to stay downtown for a night cuz Hotel Boheme was sold out.

I fell in love with the simplicity of Hotel Boheme; there used to be no television machines, and there are no crazy amenities (except free booze- sherry-  and really personalized service).  The thing is that the rooms are quite quaint.  You have to get one facing out on Columbus or there is almost no point in stayin' at this hotel.  I love to sit by the window smoking a cigarette and reading a book, looking up every so often to see who is eating at Panta Rei or how fast the sun is setting.  The whole thing is very sweet and I have Brian to thank for booking our stay here 3 or 4 years back.  Thanks a million.

This hotel is very unique, and location could not be better. Nestled in between late night cafes and little restaurants, you can sit outside and people watch for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

It's right next to b of a and wells fargo, so really convenient.

The rooms are small, but then again, you're only there for two nights, its not like you're carting in a bunch of suitcases and furniture. The owner is super nice and helpful, and funny. They have a little old bottle of cheap sherry so you can do some pre-drinking before your actual drinking- nice.

The room we got was cozy- although the walls were an ugly peach color. The bathroom is really cute and art deco-ish. I like it.

Cute hotel! The rooms are unique and probably best described as "quaint". Very small, but clean and having much character. The staff was very friendly and helpful when we arrived -- offering to help us out with maps, directions, recommendations, etc.

Overall, a very nice hotel located in an exceptional location-- walking distance to all the restaurants as well as the touristy stuff (fisherman's wharf, coit tower, ghirardelli square, etc.).

Charming and romantic.. perfect location for North Beach adventures! Close to City Lights Books, great cafes, a cute park, ect. We stayed in a room overlooking the street and it was pretty quiet. Helpful and friendly staff, also! It's a little expensive, so we stayed a couple nights then stayed somewhere cheaper for the rest of our visit.

This was the place we stayed the night before we flew home. It was located on Columbus Avenue in the North Beach neighborhood. Cute place, small room, too hot, crappy shower, running toilet, and the tv didn't work. I was glad we were only there one night. That section of North Beach is pretty touristy- people outside their restaurants shouting at people to come in, and the same for the nudie bars around the corner.  So real noisy.

I'm torn.

The room is small, but true to the area buildings. Each is uniquely decorated with some sort of beat-poet-bohemian-something-or-other. The bathrooms are even smaller, but mantain the bohemian theme. The service is great. The room is great for what it is and where it is. Cozy, romantic, Parisian-esque.

The problem: It is VERY loud. The street noise climaxes as the bars close at 2am. Just when you thought you could relax, dumptrucks and buses start rolling though around 5am. That is if you are not disturbed in the middle of the night by a passing fire engine. And forget about street parking, just open you wallet and find a lot.

Love it.

Before I moved here, Mario and I stayed here for the weekend in a room that overlooked Columbus.  We split a bottle of wine while sitting at the table in front of the window, reading, talking, until afternoon became evening.  Beautiful.

The decor is eclectic & ambient, the service is great, the location is fantastic.  Minus a star for it being a little small, & a little pricey.  But I thought it was well worth it.

I will stay here again.

I'm in SF for business - meetings and an industry convention, and after shaking umpteen hands, making surface-y small talk with that smile pinned to my face, it's so nice to come back to Hotel Boheme for a refreshing breath of something sincere & genuine.

The rooms are simply appointed - a small table doubles as an impromptu desk, an oscillating fan keeps a breeze, the bathrooms are in deco style with fluffy white towels, and an antique armoire smells exactly like my grandmother's.

Maybe I'm wooed by nostalgia and a never-ending quest for something real, a little shabby with history, but I would prefer to stay here than in the myriad of super-hotels just down the street around Union Square.

Plus free wifi and a bedtime sherry! What's better than that?

Hotel Boheme is worth a try if you're looking to stay in SF's north beach and have some dollars to spare. My wife and I stayed two nights here during our multi-stop honeymoon and we had absolutely no complaints. The building is historic and charming and the owner was extremely helpful and welcoming. Only a few days after booking our rez we received a hand-addressed envelope containing a welcoming note, a map of North Beach that showed surrounding parking structures in relation to the hotel, and a very detailed map of the grand ol' city of SF. It's the small things...

Could Hotel Boheme's rooms be a little larger? sure.
Could Hotel Boheme be a little less expensive? perhaps.
Could Hotel Boheme be a little less noisy? i guess so.

But then it just wouldn't be Hotel Boheme, and it wouldn't be San Francisco. There's always your local motel 6 or super 8 motel, but c'mon... you deserve better every once in a while. I think the pictures speak for themselves.

In its current incarnation, it opened a decade ago, designed as an homage to the bohemian style of North Beach in the late-1950s. High-ceilinged rooms lining a narrow hallway are small but brightly painted and nicely furnished; those in the front face Columbus Avenue and are noisy late into the night. The modernized baths, with showers only, are claustrophobic. Sherry is served in the miniature lobby every afternoon. Rates range from $149 - 169.00. The staff is friendly and helpful, but anyone who thrives on upscale hotel amenities will be unhappy here. Although conveniently located, it's not recommended for those with cars, since street parking is impossible and nearby garages costly.

Love this place! I live in the Bay Area so it felt a bit weird to stay at a hotel in San Francisco. But my nice sister gave us a night at the Boheme for our wedding gift and we used it for my birthday weekend. The service was wonderful and the location perfect. We had room 204 which was Allen Ginsburg's room. It looked right out onto Columbus Ave which was great. Yes, noisy, but my husband and I enjoy the street sounds. It definitely didn't prevent us from sleeping. But again, we like that as part of the experience.

Cute, clean but LOUD. I am usually a sound sleeper, even with a little noise, but went to bed at 10:30 and was up till 3:00 in the morning due to people hollering through the evening in the street down below, strolling out from the bars, drunk, and being asked to get out of the middle of the street by police. Too bad. Really nice hotel otherwise.

Great, small boutique hotel on Columbus. Wonderful location for exploring the city--it's in the middle of a million amazing places to eat, close to Citylights, about a half mile from the famous Bimbo's 365 club (which is much classier than the name suggests), close to Coit Tower which has great views of the city and bridges, and it's close to some major bus routes (only $1.50 for a few hours of riding!).

Yes, the rooms are small, but the beds were comfortable, the were rooms cute, and they gave out *real* keys. I can't remember the last time I got a key when I checked into a hotel. Wonderful customer service.

great atmosphere, no AC, internet is a little dubious.  rooms are clean, cozy, romantic.  front desk is MAD helpful.  Free booze after 8.  Location is reaaaaally noisy, but GREAT for convenience.  REALLY noisy - bars until 2 AM, garbage trucks and buses at 5.  that being said, seriously, get a room on the front and you can watch all of north beach go about its business.  it's pretty awesome.
