You would never know from the outside how cool this hotel is.

Once you walk thru the doors, however, quickly you discover that you're not in your typical El Camino Blvd. Mt. View hotel.  The lobby has funky/lounge furniture, Jazz music playing and scented candles burning.  It's dark, but not too dark.

The desk staff are very friendly.  I walked into the hotel w/ a Dodger cap on (remember, this is in Giant-County).  Instead of insulting me, the guy just poked some very playful fun.

The rooms are really comfortable.  The beds are great, w/ nice linens and comforter.  There's a flat-screen tv.  I didn't really watch tv while I was there, but, it's nicer than a big, clunky set in the middle of the room.  The mini-bar is fully stocked w/ snacks, if you're loose w/ your cash and hungry.

The bathrooms are newly redone.  There's a basin sink, good shower, nice towels, colorful counter top, shaving mirror, Aveda soaps & shampoo.  What more could you want? There's a pool and hot tub.  Both are clean and enjoyable.  They have towels, lounges and tables by the pool.

There's free breakfast every morning.  As good or better than any other small hotel continental breakfast.  Full selection of teas and coffees, fruit, cold & hot cereal, juice, baked goods and breads. There's a business center, which is really just a room w/ a computer.  But, still, comfortable, stylish and useful.  You can check your email, and there's a printer w/ free printouts. If you're in Mt. View for business, or visiting a family member (like I do), you really can't do better than the Hotel Avante.  I will be staying there for sure the next time I'm in the area.

Oh, and if you're lucky, you can find a great rate on Hotwire.  If you do a hotel search on Hotwire in Mt. View, CA, you might come across a listing that has as one of the "features" boutique-style hotel.  That'll be Avante.  Since Hotwire doesn't tell you what you've booked until after you pay, I can't say for sure it'll turn out to be Avante, but, give it a shot.

Great luxury hotel that IS NOT located in San Francisco or San Jose.

You wouldn't be able to fully appreciate the awesomeness this hotel is by looking at it from the outside. It's located on El Camino and there are residential apartments/townhouses as its neighbors. The inside is definitely 5 stars with decor and it's updated fixtures throughout as well as flat screen TVs.

If you're looking for a getaway/romantic night away from home but don't want to go all the way to SF, come to Avante!

Judging from the outside of the building you would never think this hotel is sleek, modern and chill..
I booked an Executive King room for Saturday. The discounted rate was awesome for what you get.

Pros:

- Room was really clean. Bathrooms were spotless.
-Decor and furniture in the room was sleek, modern and very functional.
-Complimentary slippers were really nice.
-Bathrobes you can use while you're there.
-Free bottle of Avante water
-Bottle of Sparking water, Spring Water or wine if you're a Joy of Life member
-Lather products in the bathroom
-Crest toothpaste, cotton balls and Q-tips.
-Nice plush towels.
-Flat screen LCD TV with HD on most channels.
-Breakfast included. ( A step up from Hampton Inn's breakfast)
-Turn down service was nice. They maid turned on classical music, dimmed the lights and left us some chocolate treats along with an additional bottle of water.

Minor cons:

-If you were put in an adjoining room like ours and have other people partying next door, it will get loud. I had to request for another room at 8:30 pm. Not really the hotel's fault but I guess the doors are thin.

-AC was a bit loud but not too bad.

-Bed was kind of hurting my back in the AM. Maybe I'm a bit spoiled since I have a tempurpedic at home?

-Breakfast room is small and tight. We found a table ok since we came in an hour before breakfast ended but had trouble navigating to get our food since space is limited.

-The internet didn't work. Wired and Wireless. I had to call the third party tech support. They got the wired working but after 30 minutes they couldn't get the wireless working. After hanging up and another 15 minutes, I got the wireless working on my own. The front  desk found out about my internet issues and called up to apologize. They said they were going to send someone in but luckily I got it working.

-HBO signal  kept cutting in and out throughout the whole night.

Despite the minor issues that were sort of not the hotel's fault, I do recommend this hotel. It's a bit hard to find since it's tucked away with some other apartment buildings but a nice place. I'm a fan of JDV properties now.

Great value for the price!  Everyone was very nice and helpful, rooms are nice and comfortable, HD TVs, quiet, easy to use wireless internet.  Happy hour 6-8, breakfast is nothing special but better than I expected.

Bonus points for cool photography in the rooms that didn't make me want to barf, and the "Hi-Fi Lounge" (even if I have no idea what it's for).

They also run a shuttle to local employers, which I'll definitely take advantage of next time I'm in town.

I stayed here recently so that I didn't have to drunkenly get back home after my company's holiday party. I managed to get a King Executive Suite. The bed and linens were really comfy. I wish I had found out where they get their pillows, they were really nice. The room itself is pretty good, very comfortable and room to maneuver around. I also liked the bathroom layout and the fun sink.

Here are my 2 gripes about the place:
- the phone in the room is like a first or second generation cordless phone. It's got a ton of static and it's really hard to hear.
- HBO on the tv wasn't coming in. This was disappointing as there was even one of those little hbo guides on the side table. Sure, we weren't there to watch tv, but it would have been nice for vegging purposes.

Excellent hotel for a quick getaway. I say excellent because you can get a great deal on weekends where you stay Friday and Saturday nights and only have to pay for one night. That's only $129+tax for 2 whole nights in a fantastic room with nice decor and awesome bedding. The outside doesn't look that great but the rooms totally make up for it.

Great place to bring a concubine.

I stayed here last night. It was a pleasant surprise. I had no idea it was so swanky inside from the look of the outside. The room was cozy and had some fun stuff in it. The bed was the best....soft and cozy. The pillows rocked too! I wanted to take it home with me! I had breakfast there this morning and it was pretty decent, think continental and add eggs, bacon, sausage and pancakes.
The price for a Saturday night was a very good value.....check it! :D

It's nice, I like.

Friendly (and cute) staff, clean rooms, and free wine in the evenings. Toss in low rates and you've got yourself a lovely hotel. The pool area in the back is super cute but I never see anybody use it.

There is free wired internet in every room which is good for business travelers and/or those like me who like to post to Yelp from hotel rooms.

Hotel Avante, you made my list.

I've stayed here on numerous occasions, mainly for work purposes, and always received adequate, if not good, service. The last trip down was a big exception, and they made the mistake of being smarmy about it.

My flight was delayed by 2 hours, and so I arrived at the hotel at about 10pm rather than 8pm. Apparently the hotel was full, so they tried to tell me "it's the last room we have, but it's awesome, it's right across from the breakfast room". Lies. It was !awesome. It was the smallest room I've ever seen, the aircon didn't work, it was on the ground floor and it was awful. So I complained. The issue was that they *did* have another room, they just made some lame excuse about it being saved for a female guest because they have a policy of not putting females on the ground floor. What bullshit. Why would I be any safer? Their attitude was atrocious.

This, along with other recent reports of shabby treatment from other employees of my company (who provide a very large amount of their daily occupancy) have totally changed my view on this hotel. Next time I'm travelling for business I will be staying elsewhere.

Unless you like being treated like crap, stay somewhere else. Anywhere is better than this poorly renovated ex-flea motel.

Cute. BUT...

Hot water heater sounded like it was IN the room. Click, click, click, goes the clicking of the heater. Click, click, click... Michael at the front desk needed more help. As is shown by the fact that I called down for 20 minutes and no one answered. The phone went dead,  had to use speaker, and the windows are so thin I woke up to the party next store at 3 am. Plus, when you ask for a 10 am wake up call..they start calling at 9:30.

But..the bed was comfy. And I liked the pillows. And they have Lather body stuffs that I promptly confiscated. Sweet. Too bad no maid carts were in the hallway when I was walking by...

One starfor comfy bed. One star for Lather. Half a star for being so gosh darn cute. 2.5 stars or so...

My home away from home for about 20 days of the year.  I love the Avante.  I hate Mountain View, but the Avante is a great place to stay.  I wish it had a bar, but other than that, it's a great place to stay.  Awesome, friendly staff, funky (in a good way) decor, easy parking, spacious rooms, good TV situation, nice bathrooms, etc.

A nice touch that they seem to have added recently is that before you arrive (every day) they turn on some dim lights and classical music in your room.  Makes it an awesome place to retreat to after a long day/flight/whatever.

this place really is posh...and a really good deal.

i found out about this place because my parents love to stay in joie de vivre hotels and the recommended it to me...boy am i glad that they did.

its true, it doesnt look like much from the outside, but when you get inside and see your room, you really will be impressed. its quite, the beds are super-sleep-in-able, and the decor is great.

if only i had another excuse to go to san jose...

This place gives you a hard time first: You look at the website and you think "wow", then you book your room and arrive and as you look at the building, especially the front entrance you think "oh my god, what kind of cheesy place is this? ", but as you get in and spend your first night there, you will fall in love with this place:
The beds are really cosy, the rooms are styled very tastefully and complementary European (!) breakfast comes with the room, which means you will not only get scrambled eggs and bagels, but also real good ham and on top of that you can drink and eat out of REAL china plates and cups, real forks and knifes, no plastic!
The hotel has got a pool in a nice sweet backyard, a hot tub and a nice gym.
On top of that there is a complementary chair massage tuesdays and wednesdays available for all guests. In the evenings they also organiza a little, cosy get2gether with free, excellent californian wines and real good salami snacks. Also they offer free shuttle services to all businesses nearby - To sum it up: There are so many Sillicon Valley Hotels, but this charming, little place offers a lot of sweet add-ons which finally makes the difference and will make me return.

You wouldn't know it from the street, but this is actually a very lovely hotel.    The decor is more San Francisco than south bay, but there's none of the pretension of a SF hotel (along with no parking fee).  The rooms are beautiful and we love the beds.  There's even a cute little "hi-fi" room for listening to music.  We enjoy this hotel and recommend it to friends and family who need a place to stay in the area.

For the price ($119 on weekends) this place is a gem.  It has such a fresh clean feeling when you just walk thru the doors and smell the scented candles burning.  The room was wonderful with free bottle water and the bed was so comfy.  Make sure you ask for a room in the back. The street is noisy but that is the case on such a busy street.  I was impressed and will go again.

This hotel is hip! The lobby reminds me of a small version of the Clift Hotel in San Francisco. Its oakie-modern and very fashionable. The rooms remind me of the W Hotel, with lots of amenities. The beds are great. There's Wi-fi throughout the hotel and wine flows at happy hour. The pool is nice too, with a jacuzzi too.

set the scene: Download Festival 2005.  the first time ever the event was set in the U.S., at the Shoreline Ampitheatre...and we were there!  let's see...where to stay that would be awesome???  The Avante!

This place was great!  the decor, the ambiance...the cool mental toys that were left in the desk.  how many cool places have a listening lounge?  granted the look was art deco circa 1950's...if anything, that was it's charm.

the bathrooms were all definitely hooked up with the latest style coming out of the FIDM.

honestly, if you want to hang out at a cool, low key place while you're sight seeing in NO Cal...i would highly recommend this place.
