On a recent trip to NY, I booked at this hotel primarily because in a sea of overpriced hotels, this location stood out. Honestly - all I needed was a clean and quiet room, and that's exactly what I got. As most locations are within Manhattan, space is tight. The "lobby" of this hotel is about the size of my office cubicle.
The staff was accomodating, though services are very sparse. There is no room service, no ice machines (amenities have to be requested on a case by case basis). That said, the housekeeping staff could not have been more lovely or efficient. Amenities in the bath are Philosophy branded and plentious.
Location is great - smack on Fifth Avenue, with a Starbucks right off the hotel lobby and major shopping and sightseeing just blocks away, including the Empire State Building about two blocks south.
Space is your biggest enemy with this property - no closet, and no real storage space so if you're staying for more than a few days, plan to use your suitcase as your "drawers". -
Review from Alison N.
My partner and I recently booked to stay here after reading some of the previous reviews and the reasonable price. While the hotel was very tidy and has a fantastic location it is small and so are the "rooms". I don't just mean a little bit pokey I am taking Harry Potter under the stairs small. There is no where to put your luggage which makes it very interesting when you are travelling as a couple. You are literally on top of each other the entire time. I think this would even still be too small if you were travelling on your own. We found the pictures to be very misleading. Kudos to the photographer who took the shots, the room looks spacious and you cannot see the hideous window mounted heater/aircon unit. majority of the staff were friendly some more so than others. On a number of occasions we were greated with a grunt by the ladies at the front desk only to walk behind them to get into the elevator to discover them doing a spot of online shopping for shoes and dresses.
The max time I would recommend to stay in this hotel would be no more than 2-3 days it was a nightmare with how small it is. In a city as crazy as NYC your hotel room really needs to be a sanctuary, where you can escape the hustle and bustle of the streets. Unfortunately this hotel room only intensified the feeling of constantly being surrounded by people. Next time I would spend slightly more on a larger hotel room as it wasnt worth the stress if being in such a tiny room, with no where other than the bed to sit. While we thought who cares after reading other reviews about how small the room is, your in NYC right who hangs out in their room? But honestly with what little time we did spend in it with a room that small we couldn't wait to leave! -

When I booked this place & saw the rate - I thought wow that's not too shabby for the city. I should have learned - if it looks too good to be true, it is.
I honestly wonder what kind of hotels those giving this place high marks have stayed at. This hotel royally SUCKED. For the rate, I could have gotten the same level of quality at the Jane or Gershwin. Therefore given my experience this place was overpriced. I checked out the next day.
I expect rooms in NYC to be small - I read reviews & looked at pictures beforehand. However I did not expect to see a window unit A/C positioned right at the headboard! In fact, unless the room is truly a budget/hostel level hotel, you just don't see that. What sucks even more is that NONE of their website pictures show a room with a window unit A/C. I found out later those pictures are from the TOP FLOOR.
While they moved me to a slightly larger room, the A/C was loud (still a dirty window unit). It was Summer so turning it off would have been dumb. The bed was about as comfortable as sleeping on the floor. I woke up the next day with a back & neck-ache. The Wi-Fi did not work. I checked out the next day & they tried to charge me about $15 more a night than the rate I booked.
If you are used to lousy hotels, with window A/C's and uncomfortable beds - this place is you. If you want to be close to the 'action' - which as a former NYC'er you're really not unless action means shopping in Herald Square, walking up/down 5th or shoving past other tourists on Times Square - and will either be too exhausted or drunk to care what kind of room you fall into - this place is for you! Being close to anything in NYC is a fallacy - it's very easy to get around therefore 'walking distance' doesn't matter since you will be on the subway most of the time.
Other amenities - there are Starbucks on every corner in NYC. The restaurants nearby are not really 'local'. There is usually some sort of construction going on off or on 5th. On a bright note, Lord & Taylor + Bryant Park are in walking distance, as is the start of Herald Square shopping.
Don't be fooled by the positive reviews. These folks either stayed in the elusive top floor or are probably employees. You can find good rates uptown or further down in the Financial District. In NYC EVERYTHING is close - all you have to do is take the subway. -

Good room, clean and comfortable. They have a Starbucks next door and you can enter the hotel through Starbucks. A really good staff that was prompt in serving their guest.
This hotel is in a great location to everything. Nice deli next door and the hotel gives you voucher for bagel & coffee each day. -

Do you like hotel rooms the size of a matchbox? Then this is the place for you!!!
I mean, I know NYC hotel rooms are known to be small, but this is probably the tiniest room I've ever been in. Good thing I'm a small person!!
Pros: Centrally located, right next to a Starbucks (literally, there's a glass wall separating the Bux from the lobby), quiet, great bathroom amenities.
Cons: Tiny room, pillows suck, shower ledge is so shallow that the room may flood.
Also the first time I stayed there I had an air/heating unit from the 80s, that couldn't control the temp of the room, so I was half hot/half cold depending on how I moved. Was in a room with central air the next time. -

Close to all the action, yet not in the middle of it all. Clean room, fabulously comfortable bed. Very compact space but it was perfect for me. Desk staff was friendly and Starbucks downstairs. I can't wait o stay again!

We stayed here I have to say that we found a great little hotel in the center of the city. It's pretty easy to get from this hotel to just about anywhere in Manhattan.
After looking through all of the deals offered on Priceline for our getaway vacation weekend, we chose this hotel and were completely satisfied. I'm not sure what their "non-priceline" rates are, but we really loved this place.
The staff was exceptionally wonderful and friendly and the rooms are well appointed and have a great style and feel. From the marble bathroom counter and sink to the oh-so-comfy bed, this room was a welcome spot after we exhausted ourselves in the city.
The only two cons we had were that the outside of the window was extremely dirty - probably an expectation for New York, but a window washer would be nice. And they took a long time to bring us an ironing board and iron. But if we had remembered that we needed it before 2 minutes before we had to leave... that wouldn't have been an issue.
If this hotel comes up on a travel site and you're unsure - go for it. You will not be disappointed. Someone in another review said the street noise was loud - we actually felt our room along the 35th Avenue side was a quiet oasis from the street. Maybe it was just a little quieter during our stay. -

Hotel 373 was the perfect boutique hotel to stay in during my first trip to NYC. The extremely friendly staff treated me like a superstar, and they couldn't have made my stay more comfortable. The location was great -- safe (I was staying there alone) and so convenient. It was close to the 6 train station and walking distance to many landmarks. The Empire State Building was a block away, which made it easy to find if I was walking up or down Fifth Avenue. I actually walked much more often than I took a cab or the subway (btw, can someone explain to me how it can be 45 degrees outside and still a freaking sauna in the platforms?!).
The hotel is brand new, with contemporary interiors and everything you need in a room, including a super comfy bed (it rivals the Westin's heavenly bed), LCD tv mounted on the wall, free wi-fi, iPod dock, and bath and skin products from Aveda. Although the room is quite small, it's perfect because it's clean and cozy. Plus you really only go there to sleep anyways. The lobby is really only the concierge's desk, but there's an on-site Starbucks, which was perfect because I love to start my day with a sweetened black iced tea.
Hotel 373 is not as luxurious as Hotel Gansevoort or 60 Thompson, but for the fairly inexpensive rates (I stayed there for $250/night), clean and comfortable accommodations, central location, and warm staff, I couldn't have stayed at a more pleasant place. I'll definitely book a room there again the next time I'm in NY!Listed in: My Adventures in NYC

Planning our first trip to New York City was a chore. I knew that I had to book the flight and hotel first and then the itinerary details will fall into place later. I was looking for a centrally located hotel and came across 373, which is considered boutique. I knew going in that the rooms would be tiny and yes, I concur with all these claims. I didn't even mind that there wasn't a hotel lobby, an in-house restaurant or a closet. We were hardly in our rooms to really enjoy that anyway! What I I loved about Hotel 373 was how clean our queen sized room was, our heavenly bedding, how we were within walking distance to the subway stations, fifth ave shopping, empire state building, fashion district, etc. The staff was tremendous. Requests were met pretty quickly, they helped hail a cab for us, stored our luggage graciously on our last day and even printed out some documents for me.
Totally recommend this place!Listed in: My first NYC trip!

Perfect spot for a tourist like myself. In the middle of everything. The rooms are small, but I didn't go to NYC to stay in my hotel room. They are also kept up and modern. Not a fan of the pillows because they were really big in both directions, but I fell asleep just fine.
Overall, it is a place I would recommend to a couple visiting NYC if you don't want to spend all your money on a hotel in a prime location. -

This is a great boutique hotel. The location is a gold mine; 5th ave, across from the Empire State Building, close to the subway, little Tokyo is around the corner...etc. You will be hard pressed to find a name brand hotel with the same bang without paying easily twice the weekend rate here.
Hotel is well kept and has a clean, contemporary decor. They have perky amenities such as ipod docking stations in all of the rooms as well as HD flat screen TVs. Points taken away for lying to me about having aveda products. They probably had aveda products offered in their rooms at one point or another, however when I visited in February that is no longer the case. The sheets are a bit too rough for a hotel on 5th avenue I thought. Points also taken off for the girl who looked like she couldn't be bothered to look up from her nails when I was trying to check-in but was very helpful otherwise.
The most important point to be mentioned here is that if you are considering staying here, you are probably a frugal person. Don't degrade yourself to a downright cheap by staying at the room with the full-sized bed just to save another 20 bucks. Dude, it's not worth it. It will guaranteed a regret coming your way. Don't bother searching for a picture of it, the room IS the size of the bed. The queen and king rooms are by far much roomier and better fitted for non-hobbits. -

I love this little hotel!
The Pros:
* The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful
* The location is great, right on 5th Ave. with easy access to the subway
* There's a Starbucks accessible directly off the lobby!
* Alarm clocks are iPod-friendly
* The room was immaculately clean
* The bed itself was ridiculously comfortable, which was a nice plus
Possible Cons:
* Amenities are sparse, but I didn't miss them
* There's a fair amount of traffic noise, especially in the morning, so consider yourself warned!
* I do also remember the A/C being a bit noisy
* My room had a corner view, which I happened to love, but you sacrifice a proper bathroom mirror for this particular luxury - I, for one, enjoyed brushing my teeth while looking out over 5th Avenue!
* The rates are all over the place depending on the time of week/year, so definitely sleuth around if you're flexible
Overall, this was a very friendly, clean, comfortable, modern hotel. I always check their rates first when I'm headed into NYC. =) -

Rooms are really small, but what do you expect in New York? They maybe too small for the person that is visiting with kids from their 5 bedroom/30 bath suburban waste of space. If you're 1 or 2 people visiting NY just for business or fun, you'll be fine here.
The main thing here is that the rooms are clean, new, and clean, and kept clean. They tried to posh it up. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Central location to everything, never had to take a cab. Subways and trains nearby.
This place is basically designed as an excellent place to sleep after partying all night in NY. Who goes there to stay in a luxury hotel anyway? Prices are great. -

I'm not particularly used to hotel rooms the size of a shoe box but this wasn't too horrible. Being that it was my first time in NYC, I wanted to really experience it! I've been warned that most of the hotels in NYC are super tiny! So I was kind of disappointed to find out that this fable was TRUE! But no worries, when you're in NYC, you don't spend too much time in your room!
The location was great! It's nestled on 5th Avenue and directly across the street from the Empire State Building, which boasts spectacular views of NYC. There's never enough time to do everything you want in the big apple, so a friendly concierge and staff are very helpful when it's your first time in the city. Hotel 373 helped us find restaurants and even grabbed cabs for us!
There's a Starbucks connected to the lobby of this hotel, so if you need a quick fix of that caffeine, just go downstairs and order a caramel macchiato! Hotel 373 has complimentary wireless service, marble bathrooms, iPod docks, Aveda bath products (yay!), and an ever so comfortable bed!
Might I add that this hotel is close to a couple Irish Pubs; enough said! :) -

Best hotel in NY!!!
Perks:
- Your own bathroom (I don't like to share)
- Locate on 5th ave
- Starbucks in the lobby
- Walking distant to Empire State Building
- Free wi-fi (required to find awesome dinning and tourist attractions)
- Near train stations 6, B, V, D, N, F (ideal way to travel)
The small rooms that are perfect for tourists that only need a room to sleep and don't want to pay extra for unnecessary amenities like a gym or spa. We stayed here a month after it was open and everything was still brand new. This is my hotel of choice if I were to visit again!Listed in: The NY experience

Just stayed here over the weekend. We were in room 906, which was very small but immaculately clean. Our room was about a 10'x10' plus a small bathroom. Overall, I have zero complaints.
This hotel may not be for the person who expects a lobby where they can lounge, room service, or even a closet in their room. My only requirements for a good hotel in NYC is that it is clean and in a safe neighborhood. Hotel 373 definitely met those requirements and at a good price ($139 per night, via a special on TravelZoo).
Bonus to me was the sliding glass door connecting the hotel to the Starbucks next door. Plus, Oxford Cafe next door on the other side serves a well-priced breakfast ($3 for 2 eggs on a roll on weekdays, and $10.95 for 2 eggs, bacon, toast, homefries, coffee, and OJ on Sunday). -

Very bad stay. No sleep. Construction all night. All rooms face the street and the windows are not sealed right. Probably does not apply to every night. Expensive, small rooms even by NYC standards. Great location, friendly staff. Will never stay here, ever again.

It's a small boutique hotel with a great location on 5th avenue. I stayed here recently for 1 night while on a weekend New York adventure. I got a great deal on Priceline for a room with a king bed. The room was super tiny, but the bed was very comfortable. The toiletries offered by the hotel were kinda crappy but hey what do you expect? This is a nice hotel where I wouldn't mind staying again, if they could match the same price I received on Priceline.

The thing to keep in mind is that even though this hotel is highly rated by most Yelpsters is that this place is small. The rooms, bathrooms, lobby, and hallways you name it. The name 373 probably not only applies to the address but also the dimensions of the area you can actually walk in your room and the bathrooms are so small they had to put the Japanese Toto toilets just to make everything fit. This is no hotel for Shrek and Fiona.
Aside from the size, I thought this place was excellent.
-Great location- minutes away from the subway, shopping on 5th Ave, and sightseeing at Times Square, MoMA, Rockefeller, etc but far away to not hear the crazy street noise at night.
-Staff/ Service- On day two I opted not to have the room cleaned since I overslept but realized that the shower curtain was short and leaked water. I called it in and by the time I got back the shower curtain was changed and my room was made!
-Room: Small but the beds were soft, fluffy, and super comfortable. Best 4 nights I've had on a hotel bed. When I was too lazy to go out there was a full selection of cable and complimentary Wifi. The furniture was of a modern feel and was really clean.
Bang for buck: At $139 for a queen for quality and location is a steal.
Recommendations for guests:
-Not being cheap on the $10-20 and get a queen or king, the extra room seems much more comfortable.
- Request a room further away from the elevator, it makes a loud ding sound and the closer rooms are only a couple feet away.Listed in: Big apple Getaway

My friend and I stayed here during one of my recent visits to NYC, and I have to say - I was impressed.
The room was ridiculously tiny... it literally ONLY had room for the double bed and tiny tiny desk. But hey - you don't come to NYC to spend the day in your hotel room, right?
The bed was super comfy, the AC was a delight in the humind summer, and the iPod docking station made everything musical.
The only downside of the hotel was the receptionists. Most of the night they were two young men and found it necessary to try to tell me and my friend that we should "be staying in for the night" after we stumbled in from Tao to rest our feet for a few before heading right back out. If we'd wanted our parents with us, we would've invited them.
Otherwise, completely cute and fun! And if you need your Starbucks in the morning, fear not! - There's one attached to the hotel :) -

Torrance, CA
VERDICT: tiny, minimalistic, right above starbucks, 2 blocks either direction to different subway stations, walk up couple blocks to plenty of shopping on 5th. kinda far from everything else, and yet in the middle of everything.
QUALIFIER: stayed for 5 nights during spring break weekend to visit the city and some financial institutions downtown. this place is in midtown, half block from empire state building. there's only one seat in the lobby (really the size of a hallway entrance to the elevator). i can't complain because guests can open the glass door and walk into and lounge in starbucks all they want! it opens at 6am, but closes at 10/11pm (bummer, too bad not 24hr). average price for overall very clean place (unless the guest can't make it back into the room and puke overnight in the halls).
SERVICE: very accommodating staff. tv in my room wasn't working so they moved me to an upgraded room (just bigger bed). for anyone planning to stay here in the future, try to ask for the corner room b/c that space has corner view of 5th ave & 35th st. -
Review from Rob E.
This place is only about location, and I felt it was not worth the money. It was very small and not as well kept as I'd hoped for. I've stayed in nicer hostels (in Germany - very nice hostels). the adjacent Starbucks is a massive minus, not a plus as this hotel tries to convince you. Save your money and go somewhere else. Seriously.
Summary - Location good but only for shopping. Rooms are tiny, no amenities, massive price. Don't book -

Just stayed here on a recent trip to NYC. A nice boutique hotel with a decent price for the location it is in. Not far from any of the main attractions you want to see in Manhattan. The bed was decently comfortable and the front desk was friendly. Like it has been said before, only down side was the size of the room, but its a place to sleep, not live.

I won't have to write much since everyone else is raving about this place also...Sure the rooms are small and there is no waiting area in the lobby, but you are on 5th avenue, steps away from everything that is Manhattan. The hotel is immaculately clean, especially the rooms. I spent $150 for a Sunday night here, which is considered absurd around these parts!

Review from Ali K.
Decided to stay at this hotel because it was around the holidays when every hotel in the city decided to jack up their prices and just abuse tourists. We could have stayed at my house but i didn't want to deal with my annoying parents, so my gf and I decided to get the hotel room through http://booking.com, Sunday to Wednesday and it was pretty cheap, oh yeah!!!!. The only major problem i had was we decided to do incremental payments, obviously no biggie we both had the money and we figured it would be taken out each day, I did this with the Michelangelo Hotel and it was a breeze, the proper amt was taken out each day. But upon checking out of Hotel 373 everything was charged all at once?! But i was told at the desk it would be each day it would be charged, whatever I'm not pleased i was told one thing and then the other happened. Any way the concierge's and staff who were cramped in the tiny lobby were pretty helpful, there was a "light skinned young and guy and a beautiful lady of some type of European decent and this cool Italian guy who were super helpful so major props for that. The lobby is extremely small, there's a ton of food options around the area, next door, and on the same block. Starbucks is legit right next door which is a plus for your morning coffee fix or shot of espresso to perk you right up. The location is on busy 5th ave on a diagonal from the empire state building, location wise if your bringing someone into the city like i was, it was prime and i was extremely happy we could walk or just hit the subway at herald square and catch everything. The rooms are kept extremely clean and the cleaning staff is super friendly and nice. Yes the rooms are extremely small but your going to have to hit up a sick hotel or one of the hilton hotels to get a room large than the average size. Overall i really can't hate on 373 b/c of one little mishap, it was a good hotel, the beds are also extremely comfortable. So props to the management!

We laughed when we opened the door to our room. It was only a little bigger than the bed. But we didn't need much else, and it was smart, clean, and the staff were attentive. My only suggestion is for the management to invest in a few more hairdryers. Recommended.

Ok, I like this boutique hotel, but it's NOISY, the cars driving by, the trash truck, lots of going on at early morning!!!! Location is pretty convenient right on 5th Ave, but you still have to walk 10 blocks away or more to go the main spot like Bergdorf, Central Park, etc. It's very small, but very clean and modern. Perfect for single traveler. The Air Con is noisy, too.

side entrance, no lobby, when asked where to check in led to a stand with a laptop. pics on site show nice clean crisp room which is not the case. it was dirty. can not believe they consider themselves a first class property. do not book your corporate peep's here. if looking for a convenient location and you're not too picky then this might be right for you. but if you are used to staying at Ritz Carlton Battery Park/The New York Palace/Four Seasons properties do not stay here or you will surely be disappointed.

This hotel is run by a bunch of crooks! I will give future guest a heads up if you are unfortunate enough to have this happen to you. I had a room reserved there on August 4th. The guest before me trashed the room. They called and left me a message that they had moved me to another hotel and they were comping my room because of the inconvenience. The hotel that they put me in was a substandard room, not even close to what I had originally reserved. When I got home to California and got my credit card statement, Hotel 373 charged me for my original room at the original price. When I called to question this, the front desk clerk, said "too bad". When I talked to my credit card company, they said I needed something in writing from the Hotel stating that they were comping me that room, so good people if you are ever "comped" a room these days, get it in writing, honesty and integrity is a thing of the past! I will never stay with these crooks again!
