Have you ever been to NY or Philli?! Hot Mamas is an acceptable substitute for now:)
I like when people rate a place like this on their customer service... Yer spending 3 dollars in the middle of the night!!! Plus yer kinda fat, ugly and have a shitty attitude to start with.
What did you expect a waiter form Canlis?!
My favorite- amazing service. The day I moved apartments I ordered a pizza and arrived to pick it up famished and accidentally without my wallet. Although I offered to have a roommate read the credit card number over the phone, they needed the physical card to charge.
Their solution: "Well, you can just take the pizza and come back and pay us later." No joke. It saved my sanity and the pizza was amazingly delicious. Thanks Hot Mama's!
Pizza, translated from Italian into English, means "poor man's food". Well, at least that's what my older sister claimed when I was a kid. She also told me when I was about 4 that when boys turn 10 years old they get eyes in the back of their head, so what the hell does she know?
Anyway, if that translation is actually true then someone forgot to pass that memo on to just about everyone west of Pennsylvania because people outside the eastern part of the US charge a small fortune for a pie. Seattle is definitely no exception. Many places charge near $30 for a pie with just a handful of toppings.
Hot Mamas serves up slices the size the way they do out east: big, floppy and begging to be folded over. They even cut the pie the traditional way, into 8 slices instead of 12. It's tasty, and the price will have you thinking they mistakenly charged you for a small.
Unlike others who seem to have had less than stellar service, I've yet to have an unfriendly encounter with Hot Mamas service. Like I could count on my sister to tell me things like "licking a 9 volt battery tastes like Kool-Aid!", I can count on Hot Mamas for filling my belly with pizza without draining my wallet.
I was hesitant to write this review at first, but now, after having devoured Hot Mama's Pizza while both drunk AND sober, I can declare it is my absolute favorite pizza joint in Seattle. Holy cow! It's delicious.
When it comes to pizza, everyone has their preferences and one pizza place is never gonna get it just right for everyone. Many people love Pegasus for their deep dish style but I prefer a thinner crust. It's as if Hot Mama's molded their pizza after my tastes because it is everything I look for in a pizza.
It's not too salty; it's just right. It's not thick crust, but it's also not paper thin. It's affordable. It's flavorful. And for crapping out loud, they have both Pesto and Hawaiian flavors. My two favorite!
I'll definitely be taking people here when they come to visit. It's that good. Thank you Hot Mama's for putting up with the drunkards that you do time and time again. You're the bomb.
I ordered delivery and the girl on the phone was the most rude person I have ever experienced in the food industry. I could not believe it!!
I was so pissed I wanted to slam my phone down and say forget the order. She was just rude and had zero manners.
I explained the most simple of instructions to our apt, which is on a main intersections corner. She straight said, "well i hope he finds it "(soaked in sarcasm). What the hell is that supposed to mean? I am 5 blocks away and Im waiting an 1.5 hours for 1 pizza. I enjoy their pizza on occasion, but their I don't give a damn attitude about anyone or anything has lost at least one more customer. I'll buy a pizza from someone that wants my business.

I'm having a really hard time with deciding 3 or 4 stars. I went with 4 b/c I have 0 complaints yet.… Read more »
I am a huge pizza fan. Personally I think it just may be the perfect food, and Hot Mama's is the best!
I've tried everything around the hill, and nothing compares. Their Pesto pizza is fantastic. The Greek is out of this world. I don't eat meat myself, but my friends who have ordered pizza with meat toppings have always told me it is AMAZING!
Plus, the prices are great and they have free delivery, what could be better? They also serve Coke products, which is awesome since I hate Pepsi.
I say four stars only because sometimes the service is a little off putting, but defiantly not a good enough reason to not have Hot Mamas.
Their pizzas good. And its a good price.
But the lady that runs the place is really...weird. I 'm not sure if I look like someone that did something terrible to her or not, but she acts like it. If I see her through the windows, I don't go in. She'll avoid me it seems like at all costs, and wont warm up my pizza slice, but will warm up my friends and the slices of others around me. Its unsettling enough that the people I'm with make comments to me about it and ask what the story is.
So I don't like going in there. But they do have good pizza.
Alright but nothing special. I had, like many others, read the words "NY Style" and wanted to check it out. Didn't quite make it. I don't understand why NY style is so hard to make - it's just thin crust and floppy, lots of cheese and sauce, but no one can do it anywhere but NY and NJ. The service wasn't really stellar either - they barely listened to our order - I didn't even get a chance to finish giving it before they had rung us up. And they didn't heat up the pizza. Minimal effort put forth. Oh well. For all the people who think this is great, you don't know what you're missing - really.
Good Pizza... my first comments after tasting were that it was just OK- but not great like all the reviews said. I ordered a Hot Mama's Hawaiian slice to-go... fresh out of the oven. When I walked in there was only a meat combo and a green pizza available for slices... at 11:30pm... on a Friday. I think the slice cost me around $2.50?
The slice had surprising good sauce- a little on the light side- and tasty toppings. I appreciated that the cheese was not loaded on. The crust was very crisp on the bottom and the end crust was chewy with a crisp outside- it had the yeasty flavor.
Great hours- cheap slices- convenient location- the mix works for me... the slices aren't the best but... it's OK.
FYI's~
*Pizza are constantly being pulled out of the oven- new choices might only be 5 minutes away
* Lots of stand and eat at high tables space with a few chairs
By far the best pizza I've had in Seattle. The bonus of course is that these pizzas actually taste fresh, unlike pizza from some other places that tastes like it's been sitting under a heating lamp all day.
Good variety as well!
I've only eaten here between 10pm and sometime in the early hours, so that means my judgment is usually a little impaired when I'm dining here. But the pesto pizza is awesome and so is the veggie and the prices are alright. Service is good and fast and the pizza is consistently yummy! Slices are a good size too.
I think this place has got it down regarding their pizzas! They have a wide variety that you could choose from like Pesto, white pizza, the works, vegetarian, meat lovers of which you could buy by the slice on the fly.
Service was good and did I mention that you could buy their pizza by the slice? Their crust is good too and piping hot from the oven. I've tried most of their pizzas and they've never failed my taste buds. Definitely go here for my pizzas. Reminded me of New York's pizzas!
How in the hell haven't i reviewed this place?
Dragged Allie here last night after Sweet Cuppin' Cakes at Royale's pre-func.
Slice of pepperoni, slice of pesto. The pepperoni's a fine slice; sausage with peppers and onions is better but they lacked for that. Pesto is pretty much manna. You can smell the pesto pie if there's one in the oven.
Of course, this being Hot Mama's, here's what to expect: 6 bucks for 2 slices and a soda. Lots of topping shakers and their amazing spicy oil. Friendly service with a hint of snark, though i don't get hit with it so whatever, and an awesome clientele, too. Open pretty late (11 sun-wed, 1 on thurs, 2:30 on fri&sat for your post-midnight movie/r place pizza needs). Free delivery on the Hill, screw Domino's and their 2.50 delivery charge. You do know that doesn't go to the driver, right? Pies are around 14-16 bucks for a pretty big large.
Is it New York Style? No, it's more South Jersey style, but that's fine with me. Much like Snoose Junction, this is a good slice when you're in the area, and it holds its own no matter what. That said, it's not the greatest pizza evar, but it's 6 bucks and you're full. Brilliant!
Pretty good pizza, a but under Pagliacci standards in my opinion. The place is teeeeeeeny, it barely holds 8 or so people and is sort of dingy looking on the inside. The service charge for credit cards is a bit lame, but pricing is still a bit less then Pagliacci's. I haven't tried the pesto pizza yet, but definitely want to.
Finally- I found a 5 star pizza place in Seattle. So flavorful and yummy. Big slices, chunks of toppings, zesty tomato sauce (versus overly sweet gross tomato sauce), a little greasy but not overly so, and a satisfying crunch crust.
This place makes me :)
Everything you want in a simple pizza joint and then some... Delicious cheap and local. Only wish there were more of you Hot Mama. xo
Got a little motto, always sees me through... When you're good to Mama, Mama's good to you!
The girls who were working there today were perfectly pleasant and helpful... Seriously, best pizza by the slice in Seattle [so says a Pagliacci devotee]; came in tonight and had a slice of the Greek and a slice of Pesto. I was full of cupcakes from Cupcake Royale down the street but still felt like something savory was necessary... couldn't have picked a better meal, I would equivocate it to drunks using grease to soak up alcohol, but it was a drunk using grease to soak up sugar.
Spice it up for Mama, she'll get hot for you!
...Ohhhh yeah, Pesto right out of the oven? Like Christmas came early. I haven't eaten pizza for almost three months, so breaking that tonight and getting a slice of Pesto was totally amazing. The Greek was yummy, but the Pesto is something I could eat every day.
Screw this, I'm moving to the hill! Hot Mama's every day! Katrina, have room in your dorm? :)
I've been on this pesto kick as of late.
Pesto just might be the best thing in the world.
Gwen, the wonderful person she is, dragged me in here before a long night of drinking until I passed out on the sidewalk (photos to come later.)
Everyone here is friendly, it's great for a quick bite to eat before trekking off to lalaland, and man they've got pesto pizza. So amazing. I'm sure if I had the nads to try anything else it would be equally as amazing. The oil stuff is sooo good too.
It'd be awesome if I could sit down for a length of time and enjoy my slice, but I get that it's not the point of this joint. This is most definitely an eat and run establishment. I also like that there is always a "normal" pizza out of you aren't feeling adventurous. As everyone else has mentioned, there's a small fee for using plastic if it's under a certain amount, but that doesn't really bug me knowing that it actually costs small businesses money to use credit card machines.
Hot Mama's how you disappoint me. I remember really liking you, but after living in Brooklyn for 5 years...not so much.
I now understand the price gap between you and Pagliacci's. A large pepperoni for $5 more you get double the meat, a complex and fresh tomato sauce and dough that has been properly thrown.
If I ever go back, I'll try the pesto and see what happens.
Probably the Best pizza in Seattle. And cheap. Why pay for Pagliacci's?
The nice thing was that they delivered, and in the time frame that they promised.
The pizza is ok. The crust is a little tough. It was a huge pizza for a large, so worth the price.
We ordered pepperoni, black olives and onions. It arrived hot with was nice. The onions ended up being red onions, where we prefer vidallia onions better on our pizza.
So all in all the pizza was ok, but we will be trying somewhere else next time we want a pizza.
Service: Servers were very rude and unattentive (I stood there waiting for about 5 solid minutes as the girl behind the counter finished up a conversation with her coworker).
Price: nothing special. $2.50 per price is about average.
Quality: again, nothing special. Most people love this place because of the "exotic" toppings: "cilantro OMG!".
First thing to know about Hot Mama's they specialize in pizza by the slice. Ssure you can buy whole pies, but there's not a lot of seating, and it just seems better suited to grabbing a slice on the run, or maybe a whole pie to go. They also usually have a couple of tables of on the sidewalk.
Anyway, they've got really decent, thin crust pizza. Maybe not the best pizza on the hill, but a good place to get a quick slice. I usually get either the cheese or the pesto. The Pesto is *really* good, and the cheese is decent.
A note to the reviewer who complained about the floppy crust - that's New York style pizza - you have to fold it over to keep the toppings on!
I tried Hot Mama's Pizza for the first time and loved it! The staff was friendly, the place was exceptionally clean, the atmosphere is overall great to eat at.
I ordered a slice of cheese and a slice of the one with cilantro, jalapenos, onions, tomatoes and olives. Both were amazing pizza. Absolutely loved that the crust was crunchy at the bottom.
The only thing I didn't like but can't really complain about, is the $0.50 charge for a debit/credit transaction under $10.
Other than that it was great!
I've only gotten pizza by the slice here. But you can also get whole pies, and they even DELIVER. For free! So why would you get Dominos and pay a delivery fee when you can get a delicious Hot Mama's?
If you do buy by the slice, ask what just came out of the oven, or pick from a pizza that doesn't have many slices missing. Otherwise, the pizza may have been sitting out for a while, and it will be cold. But if it's warm, oh God.
My favorite is the spinach, which has a delicious butter base instead of red sauce.
They always have a pesto out, but their other varieties include:
- Cheese
- Pepperoni
- Sausage
- Hawaiian
- House Vegi (peppers, olives, onions)
- Chef's Choice (tomatoes, basil, mushroom, and garlic)
- Mamacita (tomatoes, onions, olives, jalepenos, and cilantro)
- House Combo (pepperoni, sausage, peppers, onions, and mushrooms)
- Spinach (spinach, ricotta, and mozzarella)
- Sun Dried Tomato and Basil
- Mama's Choice (tomatoes, mushrooms, roasted garlic)
- Greek (peppers, roma tomatoes, onions, olives, and feta cheese)
- Chicken Garlic (tomatoes, basil, roasted chicken, garlic)
Oh, and they do charge a small fee for using a credit card. But it's so worth it.
Late night institution for me. There is no better place in town to fill my late night cravings for pizza. The pizza is great. NY Style done very well. Love the feta and pesto pizza. Good variety. Quick service and delicious. What more can you ask for?
Want Paglacci w/o hiking up Broadway? We have a winner here. They typically have 3 or 4 pizzas ready to choose from, one or two of those pizzas being outside the norms for toppings.
The atmosphere leaves something to be desired. You don't know where the kitchen ends and the dining area begins, which can be cool, depending on your mood. It has a bit of outdoor seating available.
Lastly, they have a surcharge for using credit on orders under $10 (that would be every by-the-slice order), which is kind of weak.
Typing this review as I eat. No, this isn't the most amazing pizza in the world but it's tasty. I love thin crust pizza but my medium pepperoni is a little floppy - it's impossible to pull a slice out of the box without losing all of my toppings.
However, I loved walking into the restaurant to pick up my pizza and was regretting not just eating in. Great music, friendly staff, overall a fun atmosphere.
Since Hot Mama's is only a couple blocks from me, the pizza is decent, and the price is right, I will definitely be back.
Back in the golden days of yore, I frequented Hot Mama's at least once a week. Every time I played at High Score Arcade, I'd get a slice at Mama's. This past Tuesday, after paying an insane amount of cash for non-resident tuition at SCCC, my family and I wandered in for a slice.
The two tattooed and pierced gentleman behind the counter were very friendly (smiling with eyes as well as teeth) and quick in serving us. I got a slice with red onion, black olives, jalapeno, tomato. The crust had a little bit of crispiness, but not to the point of being over cooked. I was pleased with my slice. My husband devoured his meaty slice before I could make out what he'd purchased. I'll take that a thumbs up for him.
Cheap pizza. Awesome! :-)
Sometimes it's open late at time, sometimes it's not. I don't get it. But it's good.
Cheap, quick, by the slice pizza- when you are on the go. As close as you can get to east coast style thin crust.
It's not the best pizza in Seattle, but convenient & open late - does the job of fulfilling my craving.
I am a fan, because they serve true East coast pizza. Their standard red sauce pies come from New Jersey, and they are everything you have come to expect from good Jersey pizza. It's not New York, but any true Jersey-ite would stand up for its merits. The pepperoni pizza is hands-down one of the best East coast pizzas you'll get in this town.
I either order to go or choose by the slice whatever is fresh. Oh, that's another thing - they sell by the slice. You can't do that unless your pizza is truly top-notch. A lot of folks like the pesto pizzas. When they're fresh right out of the oven, I have to agree.
Atmosphere - meh. Not their strong suit. Service is friendly, inasmuch as they take pride in their pies and are willing to turn out a good product. But it's a little too Seattle-hipster for my tastes and the music selections are schizophrenic leaning towards nerdy. But who cares when the pies are this good?
I'd say more, but it'd really just detract from the ultimate point: Pesto Pizza. Large. Delivery. Beer. Happy. Uncomfortable Gluttonous, Bloated Feeling (Why it only gets 4 stars, instead of 5). Sleep.
If it sounds like I've done this a lot, it's because I have. Tonight, in fact. *Head Falls on Keyboard*
Green Pizza is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could maybe go with 3 stars but I'll stick with 2. The problem is it's virtually impossible to ruin a pizza. You can do your damnedest but you probably won't be successful. I used to work at a Taco Bell Express in a grocery store in Arizona and we made pizzas as well. I wasn't good at making pizzas and one day when I was removing the pizza from the oven a hole opened up in the bottom. All the cheese and sauce oozed out and started staining the bottom of the pizza box. I told the waiting customer, and his reply was... "No, that's cool. No big deal. You guys make the best pizzas in the whole world." I was like "Here, let me make you another one. Not a problem." But this guy really wanted that pizza with a hole in it. Proof that you really can't ruin a pizza.
Anyway, I used to come here fairly often when I lived downtown but before I was with Laina. The pizza always seemed decent enough. It's only recently that I realize, it's just not that good. The crust tastes like cardboard, the pizzas are almost never fresh out of the oven (from my experience), and it's hit or miss whether the employees will offer to warm up your slice for you. They do get points for having Coca-Cola (with free refills) and for stocking The Stranger and other papers. If you're wandering around Capitol Hill and you don't have anywhere to go, Hot Mama's is not a bad place to kill some time reading a newspaper.
Otherwise, not really sure I can recommend the pizza. I mean, it's pizza and pizza is awesome. And it is fairly cheap. But I can get a whole pizza of much better quality at Pizza Time for about the same price. Or even a frozen pizza would not necessarily be any better or worse than Hot Mama's. This really isn't NYC style pizza, is it? Anyway, the stuff I had in NYC was WAY better than this.
After a night of way too many vodka tonics & liquid cocaine shots, you are bound to be hungry. If you happen to be on Capitol Hill, Hot Mama's is definitely a place to check out. Their pizza tastes fantastic and the sauce is simply divine!
I personally like the Chicken & pesto...that's just me (and probably 500 other followers) though!
The lines can get long on peak nights, but it is well worth the wait! And believe me...it is just as bad for you as the hot dog up the street, so you might as well get the calories in good ole fashion CHEESE form!
They aren't open as late Monday through Thursday (but if you are out and drunk on those nights, you are better off at the IHop or Dicks!).
Our go-to for greasy NYC-wannabe pizza in Seattle. There's better seattle-style (read: toppings-snob) pizza in town, mind you, but I consider them two different categories of food.
Lovely small little corner spot in a college parking garage. Love getting slices here. I feel bad for Bill's off Broadway, across the street, but it's gotta be HotMama's FTW. Even in a shootout between my old highschool sweetheart Piecora's and HotMama's... well, let's just say P'cora's might be a little brokenhearted now and again.
Hot Mama's has better snarky servers and better sauce.... it makes it a nice mix of Seattle-snobbery and NYC-greasy/cheap. Welldone HotMama's!
Simply loved it, their pesto pizza is incredible and the peperoni out of this world, the crust just perfect and crunchy sauce tasty and the right amount, with out a doubt the best pizza in town congrats and keep it up!!
Not going to lie, being from a NY i'm a natural pizza snob, and I actually took my buddy here while visiting 3 years ago. Why? Oh it's location; Centrally located
Anyway. The first thing I noticed 3 1/2 years ago is that they DO NOT heat up the pizza for you. And yes it's rarely ever fresh and when it is, It's Undercooked. What part of FULLY COOKED do they not understood.
The only plus is the pesto.. but you can't really screw up a pesto pizza... oh and I have a few buddies who work there so you know... yeah
New York Style? Yeah New York style my ass. Learn to fully cook a pizza. thanks. The owners need to take a trip to the bronx, and re-evaluate their situation.
Hot Mama's is great "NY Style" Pizza, or at least as close as you are going to get outside of NY. It's big fold-able slices with oozing cheese! Everyone is friendly and delivery is Prompt!
