Not only is this a great local cafe, but they hold lots of fun events such as belly dancing and hoop dance parties on their back patio.  The food here is very good and mostly healthy.  Gotta try the homemade kombucha when you are here.  It's delish!

Wow, what a surprise!  After trying several coffee shops in Austin, I decided that the coffee scene here just wasn't 'there' yet.  I always get a non-fat latte to try to apples-to-apples compare and I have to say this is one of only two so far that my first reaction wasn't ...."ick."

And the lady was soooooo friendly.  The space is small ish but has a wonderful outdoor patio that I would have loved if it weren't raining.  There are a couple of comfy looking couches inside too.

Please please come to the sunset valley area.  And please please stay open later.  I always love bringing a book to read after dinner to have a coffee and there just aren't too many places around here (that I like).

This is a great little cafe. I came here to work on a rainy day and ordered lunch and a chai latte. The main appeal of this place is the large patio area, but the couple of tables on the inside were pleasant as well.

There is a pretty large food menu, with sandwiches, hummus plates, salads, etc. The sandwiches come with chips and this roasted red pepper salsa that is absolutely to die for! I also had a delicious lemon scone made in-house.

I was there for a couple of hours working and regulars came and went, chatting with the owner, creating a real local feel to the place. They also have open mic nights, hula hooping hour, and other activities most weekends.

The only thing that makes this not ideal for hours of work is that the wifi was a little flaky and kept dropping off. So, if you have non-internet related work, it's a great place to be.

An instant deal on Living Social clued me into this coffee shop/ eatery. They have house-made kombucha (I tried the lemon/ lavender) ($3) and rotating specials. I tried the green goddess taco special with soup ($8). The tacos consisted of chickpeas, feta, greens, and basil hummus on corn tortillas, and the soup was a lamb and collard green concoction. I wish the girl at the counter would have told me how similar they were in ingredients but I am glad I tried both, so no big deal. I will definitely be back!

I love this place.  The food is good, the coffee and drinks are good, and they make their own kombucha, which is also good.  But more than all of that, the staff is all very genuinely nice and inviting.  From the first time I visited this establishment, I felt welcomed, and I knew I had found my neighborhood spot.  Now I'm there at least once a week.  It never ceases to amaze me how far a smile and a little kindness can go.  Even if you live across town, if you're having a bad day, drive over to Hot Mama's, get a Hot Mama Latte (it's ridiculously delicious), and relax for a few minutes.  I promise you'll feel better when you leave.

I want you all to know, before I even begin, that I am currently at Hot Mama's with a giant soy iced coffee, lamb and garlic lemon arawrap, and Greek salad in front of me. It's a beautiful 82 degrees out, my shoes are off, and I'm lounging on one of the ultra comfortable out door chairs under the shade of a large elm tree. I think it's pretty safe to say that this is one of the most perfect days, perfect moments, of my life.
I also want you all to know that this experience was a complete accident. Riding around on bikes with my boyfriend, we decided we were hungry; our intention was to go to Bits and Druthers down the road. But me being the needy lady I am, decided I absolutely had to have some coffee before I fell off my bike in sheer exhaustion. Low and behold, some place called Hot Mama's coffee shows up around the bend and we decided to take a  quick pit stop to fulfill my java desires. Not only is this place a sweet little mediterranean heaven- the staff were sweet, suggestive, and awesome. My coffee- PERFECT. they brought us our food and the presentation was stunning. I should also explain that my man and I are both chef's, so we aren't the easiest to please. This food is off the freakin hook. Taking my first bites I felt like I was no longer in Austin, but some foreign country where food this good and unique is passed down from generation to generation and takes more than a kitchen aid, oven, and fancy cookware to make. The kind of food that stains your hands and fills the entire street up with spicy, delectable smells. As I'm writing this, I'm taking bites of this food and though it seems impossible- it just keeps getting better. Take my word for it- this is without a doubt one of Austin's best hidden gems. Check out the pictures I'm posting and see for yourself. I'm going to go back to my foodie bliss now....

This is one of my favorite places for coffee - I enjoy getting their toddy (cold-pressed ice coffee), and the oat toffee crunch cookies (HUGE, $3) are super delicious.

I've only had a few of their menu items, like the veggie bagel and the hummus plate, but I've enjoyed them - and my mother loved the quiche.

I always appreciate the mostly friendly staff - I expect(and appreciate) being pulled out of my grump whenever I come here!

I like this place.  I like it a lot.  And that's simply speaking to their coffee.  I have rehearsals near Hot Mama's and so whenever I give myself enough time, I'll always drop in for an Americano right before.  Why is that?  Why not head to the more convenient coffee shops closer to the highway?  Well, because this just might be the best Americano I've come across.  Hot Mama's is truly one of the better coffee shops in Austin.  And it's actually for their coffee.

Now why don't I love the place?  The problem is I've never spent much time there--usually grabbing my drinks to go.  But the eclectic inside is very lovely and from what I've seen the much larger outside looks like a great place to work or relax on a nice day, so I'll definitely be making a day trip in the near future to get the full Hot Mama's experience.  And I have a feeling when I do, this place will go from a like to a love in a hot second.

Props to the Owner Mama of Hot Mama's! She contacted me after my lacking experience the first time and invited me back to see that they really took my review to heart and valued my business and support.

It's a super casual place that has a awesome patio that we will frequent once it cools down. They also have a super friendly staff. But the real reason you go to a place is because things taste good and service is good right... OK I'll get to it then.

I had the Persian Lamb sandwich and Lavender Lemonade. Hubs had the Bacon Havarti. All were big winners but the Lamb sammie was sooo great. My hubs is from Iceland where lamb is serious business and I wasn't expecting awesome but it really was just that- completely awesome. Fresh tomato and a flavorful sauce was on top (be warned it is messy but worth a good stain or two). The Lemonade was very sweet but it was a great twist with the lavender and wasn't overdone (it could have tasted like soap but instead it was just super refreshing).

Well done Mama! Thanks for making me feel valued and for creating awesome food that will keep us coming back.

The coffee is good.  However, the  breakfast tacos seem inconsistent.  $2.50 for a breakfast taco seems a little steep.  Especially, when the tortilla is cold.  And, the people behind the counter don't seem to be excited to see customers.  Unless they know the customer.

Great food. Decent prices. Awesome ambiance. Even in the atx heat, lunch on the patio/garden was great. Just some annoying flies but thats anywhere. Had a great salad and italian soda. Salad was bigger than it looks and so good I didn't even use the dressing. I will be back.

It's as cozy as it is tiny: this diminutive coffee spot on East 6th was my camp out spot for a meeting this week, and I came away pleased. Staff was friendly and eager, and seemed to be genuinely having fun. In this day of semi-aloof baristas, I'll take some shiny and happy, thanks.

I rounded out my italian soda with a baklava (they have a $4 rule if you user your debit card), and was glad I did. That dessert was nearly as sweet as the staff, and my guess is that the rumor of the new owner re-claiming the business from the previously owned folks is a welcome one. They're re-opening house is this weekend, and that it'll be packed isn't much of a surprise, as the place is teeny tiny. But perhaps a pleased grin will be.

If I wanted to go to a fun, funky coffee bar in east Austin,  this is where I would go.

I had some time to kill...I drove by (wait! a new place to try!), did a U-Turn and pulled into the lot.  Turns out I didn't have as much time as I thought I did and had to get the coffee to go.

My latte was delicious. Soy milk (plain, not vanilla--exactly what I wanted!) and not burnt coffee.

The menu looks delicious and I can't wait to come back to try some of the items on it.

Outdoor seating area is very cute and shaded. Indoor seating allows for couches, a few tables and lots of fun.  Or so it seems. I'll have to come back and get a latte "for here" and sit on a big couch and read my book.

"Hot Mama, just dropped by" was a comment I heard quite often when I used to intern a couple suites down from their shop. We were all really excited to have a coffee shop three doors down and really dug on the fact that it was like the central meeting place for everyone in the Pedernales complex.

The only downside to the spot is that its not on the large size so its not your typical grab-a-drink, open-your-Mac, surf-your-myspacebook type of coffee shop. That's probably a good thing though since this coffee shop is devoid of any of the myfacespacebook-hipster snobiness you can easily find at other java shops.

The food is good (especially the three cheese grilled cheese)
    The employees are really nice
The patio is amazing when it is a nice day out
The location is great for those of us on the east side

Hit it up and grab a cup. You'll be glad you did.

    Let's review:

    - Cute baristas
    - Tasty food
    - Friendly service
    - Attractive, welcoming decor
    - Walking distance from my house

Yeah, they have all that. Although Hot Mama's is not a place so cozy that I would sit there for hours and consume pot upon pot of coffee just for the ambience, it's perfect for stopping in when you're out on a little walk and you need something to wet your whistle or put in your belly. And did I mention the baristas are cute? Well, they are.

Decent food but nothing to write home about, nice patio. Incompetent waiter ("I didn't have time to put cream cheese on your bagel" and he said he'd use 2% milk but later I was told by another waiter it was whole milk) and grindy, stress inducing music.

I must have missed the outdoor patio everytime I drove by because I had no idea there was one. The main reason I go to coffee shops is just to get out of the apt or to read a book in good weather, so one of the main criteria I judge coffee shops by is their outdoor seating. Furthermore, the difference between a good and great coffee shop is the comfort of their furniture. More shops should realize that splurging on decent furniture is a very wise investment (lookin' at you Caffe Medici). I was pleasantly surprised by Mama's patio chairs. Chic AND comfortable. A+ I went to try their coffee but was swayed by the tea. They have a small but eclectic collection of drinks - mate, Mexican mocha, lots of teas, hot & cold, and some interesting-looking beers I've never heard of.

As others have pointed out, this area of E 6th is quickly turning into an alley of high-priced condos. I'm calling it the Yuppie Corridor - between about Chicon & Pedernales. The area is odd because it seems so isolated and desolate. There's really not many people around - at least not when I've been down here. I assume most of these condos are still waiting to be filled. I'd seen Hot Mama's before, riding my bike down this way, but the strip mall atmosphere was a put off. From the street it looks like just another average coffee shop. But I decided to try the place solely based on other reviews.

What a great patio! I went to a hooping event today. I only had the lavender lemonade but that was really good. Served in a large glass with lots of ice, it was just the ticket for my frequent hooping breaks. The patio has raised platforms here and there that were perfect for our hooping selves.

I will go back to sample the food as well. The barista/owner was very welcoming. I think that says a lot for a place. The inside looked comfy-cozy but we were out on the patio. Something about large hoops twirling all over the place...

Missing Ararat?  They have some sort of outpost right here.

It is a far piece from North Loop, but this coffee shop is worth a visit.  They have the aforementioned cheap and tasty Middle Eastern food, great coffee, and a really, really nice outside space.  Sadly, they are not open late-late on weeknights...until 7 if I recall correctly.

Are the Hot Mamas mamas?  Are they hot?  You decide.  You should decide over a Mexican Mocha (possibly with pumpkin-flavored whipped cream), just to be fair to yourself.

Nice new coffee place in what will soon become condo canyon in East 6th Street.

Hot Mama's has more character than you'd expect from its location. The indoor part is quite small - maybe only 6 cafe-type round tables for two.  But don't sit inside - enjoy the huge outdoor courtyard (with a great shade tree) all done up in industrial sheet metal theme - really cool and chic.  Don't forget to look up to see two of the biggest suspended light fixtures you've ever seen.  Sitting in this courtyard with an espresso and frowning as you text on your iPhone will up your hip-o-meter by 6 points, minimum.

The cappuccinos are lovely, and mine came with an exceptionally stiff foam top, just how I like it.  I didn't get any food, but I was impressed by the menu of real food offerings - panninis, salads, and so on, with an emphasis on middle eastern dishes (baba, hummus, etc.) Someone got a Greek salad at a table next to me - looked fresh and big.  One thing that caught my eye that I will try out next time is the ham & muenster croissant dusted with powdered sugar.

Free wifi is available, although you have to go through the hassle of creating an account (password, username, etc) --  totally stupid for a one-time event, but whatever. Just make it free and unlocked - what's the big deal?

Barista was really friendly, but as he was a he, I assume he wasn't the eponymous hot mama.  So who is?

I stopped in here today for a quick meeting and this place was empty. A bit of a shame. There is a pretty decent menu with good prices and good coffee drinks. There is a large patio outside as well as seating for about 20-25 inside.
Staff was friendly and this cafe was clean. I know they have Wi-Fi here, but not a single customer was using it...a bit refreshing for the freeloaders that sit in cafe's for six hours and have a $2.00 cup of coffee.

As you drive Easterly to  the point where you have validated the curvature of the planet, you will arrive at an area that will remind you of: Dallas.

I suggest that you bypass the cramped inside with complete strangers staring at you as an intruder, quickly order, and go outside to the patio.

Oh, what is this land?  I like it!  I have forgotten the drive, the claustrophobia.   I love the  core-tin steel booths and tables, the trees, the fountain, and the quiet.  When someone can meld the funk with the ultra-modern,  you get "pastoral-urbanity" as I just named it.   And I love it!

This is an office favorite. I enjoy their sandwiches, which are unique and flavorful, and they have delicious fresh treats, nutella cookies?!, if you have a sugar craving. Four stars because their service tends to be slow and it's hard to go in groups, but otherwise an awesome little lunch spot with great coffee and drinks.

My husband and I stopped in this place on a whim one day after reading about it Yelp. We enjoyed the food quite a lot. I had the Mediterranean Mama Panini and my husband had the Lamb Arawrap. Both were delicious! I love their salsa too. It was quite unique. I'll definitely go back to this place. I also had a soy latte, which was great and my husband had the Lavender Lemonade. Regarding the Lavender Lemonade: I thought it was tasty and refreshing, but my husband thought it was a bit much on the Lavender side, so he had them cut it with some yerba mate. He still felt the Lavender taste was too much for him, but i think that is a personal preference because I loved it! We will go there again for sure.

I've been waiting a while to write this review until I gave the cafe another try. You see, the first time I ordered a sandwich (to go) I found a thick black hair in my teeth.  Eew! Well I guess that I was able to get the taste out of my mouth after almost 6 months because I gave the same sandwich (veggie and feta) another go today while dining in with the hubby. I am happy to say that there were no stray hairs on the second attempt!
Nor were there any hairs in his sandwich or our hummus plate to start. I would give this place 4 stars (despite the hair issue) if the prices were lower or portions bigger. As he will probably say in his review, hubby's  sandwich tasted like something he would have made at home- nothing special for about $7. I enjoyed mine and thought it unique, however a bit on the small side just like all the other orders.
I would most likely recommend this place for a nice day for a drink because the patio is gorgeous.

I am loving Hot Mama's. Free wireless, nice patio. Today the barista (I'm so sorry I didn't get his name, he rocks) made me a honey nut latte - so good. Not too sweet, smooth espresso, and while I was there he whipped up a batch of blueberry banana muffins from scratch. I totally wanted more than one, and I got the first one hot out of the oven. It was heavenly. Hot Mama's goes on my short short list of cafes to hang out, read, and work at.

I like it here, quite a bit.  If it was bigger and closer, I'd come more often.  The place, in a word, is CHILL.  They're always playing good, mellow music, and the vibe there is top notch.  The food there is good, I can't remember what I had, but it was filling and reasonably priced.  The latte I had was very good, and I'm not a latte drinker at all.  Most importantly, the staff there is very, very friendly.  They are all smiles and most of the customers seem to be regulars.  The major drawback is the size of the place inside, it only seats about 12 people.  However, when it is nice out, so most of the year, you can sit outside there, and they have a huge, beautiful courtyard for you to hang out in.  I like Hot Mama's, and I'll be back for sure.

This is an excellent coffee shop.  They also serve sandwiches and breakfast burritos.  Yum.  So far, I have gotten the hot mama late and the mexican late, and I loved them.  It's a very small cafe, and it's never too packed.  It's relatively quiet, and the staff is friendly.  As a note: It was very difficult for me to find because of the construction going on in the area.  It's right in the middle of the block and you have to go inside of the construction area.  No worries; you'll find it.

Hot Mama's is getting it together.  It's been a rough time through renovations and owner changes.  I live right next door, but the barista's are great.  The food is pretty good for the most part.  It is strangely expensive when compared to places like progress, but for me location is key.  The outdoor patio is beautiful on a nice day, and it's good people watching.  Get the bagelwich with veggie cream cheese.  Delish!

Love, Love, Love this place. Awesome La India sandwich. The other day they ran out of salsa and someone personally delivered some chips and salsa for us after the fact.
