Review from Michelle B.
San Diego, CA
If you're into hot sauces, this shop is a must for you. We stumbled upon it the first time we went to Seaport Village. The place has hot sauces, literally from floor to ceiling. Everything from you normal garden variety type stuff to the stuff that will burn your face off.
We ended up picking up some Habanero Powder that I have used in all sorts of stuff. Chili, Deviled Eggs, Hummus, etc. Yum! Also got a really good mustard base habanero sauce that is awesome on hot dogs.
The prices are on the higher side. We spent around $16 on 2 items. BUT! The best thing is that they will allow you to try before you buy. No need to worry about buying something that you get home only to find out you're too much of a wuss to handle. You can cry right there in front of everyone and not waste a penny!
I can see many trips to this place in the future for me. You just can't beat the selection. Oh, and they validate parking. -

Hot damn! Literally.
I try to avoid Sea Port Village at all cost, as it is crawling with tourists. But with Hot Licks being right in the heart of the swarm, I have to stop in from time to time to buy some awesome sauce.
There have LOADS of sauce types that range from mild, to mouth-on-fire.
I got a ghost chili cause for wings that was so hot that it had to have come from Satan's butthole.
They have some great salsa's too. The mango is delicious.
I also bought the habanero sauce that I used for marinating tofu.
The guy working in there was very helpful, and knew his sauce.
The only thing that sucks apart from the shop's location, are the prices. Their products are really expensive, which is another reason I don't come here too often. -

If you love your hot sauces, this is San Diego's Mecca. They have so many to choose from. What I love is they know their stuff, tell them what you want from a spice and they will point you in the right direction.
They are pricey, but it's one stop shopping and they validate. -

Only real store I always have to drop by if i end up taking a trip to seaport village. This place has a variety of different sauces! I like the mango salsa they sell which has no spice at all but veryyy tastey! i also always pick up a few habanero honey sticks and a bag of those spice kettle cooked chips.
they have all the sauces they carry for sample which helps when deciding what you like and what not.

This place stopped carrying my favorite hot sauce - Iguana's golden habanero. The girl recommended another golden habanero sauce to me but it was too big to carry on the plane so I declined and tried another sauce. I didn't like it, and as that was the only under-3 oz bottle that interested me I walked out empty handed. Still, the staff was decent, the selection was very good, and the ability to sample is invaluable.
In addition to their hot sauce selection, they have all sorts of other spicy products for you to taste, so if you are checking a bag or live around here, be sure to stop in. -

So I went ahead and tried the dark chocolate candy bar with Ghost Chile in it and it was wowza! Hot! The Ghost Chile Pepper sauce was a little bit hotter than the candy bar but really only one piece is really that is all that is needed to feel the burn and get the full effect of it! The candy is appropriately names as well... it is called 'Don't Eat This Candy Bar'!

Great store for all hot sauce fanatics! If you are in Sd and love your hot sauce this is a must stop! My hubby and I are obsessed with hot sauce and even though this store is tiny it has a lot of variety. Love the ring of fire hot sauce, California chile sauce and jalapeño hot sauce. The check in offer rocks- if you spend 15 followed you get a choice of free hot sauce. They offer samples of you want to Taste before you buy. Friendly staff.

Nice, well stocked little store.
Try any flavor and get a bottle of what ever burns your cookies the right way.
Touristy and a bit over priced but still fun. -

Mmmmmmm! My mouth is watering as I write this review! Love hot sauce!
I perused their wares and wanted to buy a lot of stuff - but as I was on travel and did not have a lot of room to spare - I kept myself in check.
Having said that - I've been wanting to add some hot sauces to my pantry that are made from the Bhut Jolokia pepper. So I selected a couple different ones:
- Holy Jolokia
- Jolokia
I wanted ones that were hot sauces - and not extracts. Allegedly, both of these fit the bill.
I also returned to buy a bottle of the "Hot Licks" Serrano Hot Sauce, after I tasted it at one of the bars in Seaport Village.
At least two of the restaurants in Seaport Village have hot sauces at the bar that come from Hot Licks.
Great selection of hot sauces, they also stock rubs, dry spices, and a variety of hot foods (potato chips, BBQ sauces, Salsas, mustards, condiments, and more!) -

Every kind of hot sauce you can think of with great customer service. Watch out for the ghost chile though, it will leave your A_ _ hole on fuego.

Wall to Wall hot sauce, BBQ sauce, mustards. Been going here for years. Never disappoints. Great selection of Ghost chili, Habaneros and mild sauces. Give sweet hits sauces a try you will definitely appreciate the lack of heat as well as the flavor.

If you like any level of heat with any of your food, this is the place to go!
Sure, you can get the regular stuff at the local grocery store. But if you want something unique to boast at your next party or you are still in search of that salsa/sauce that literally makes your hair stand, go here.
The staff is always very helpful, knowledgeable and is super nice. And if you ask, they do provide samples. (Oh, and if you are wondering what the really hot hot stuff is, just look at the top shelf items. That is usually where the heat is (even though hell is in the other direction).
I tasted a sample of the 357 mad dog .... Yeooozzzzzaaaaahhh! Woo boooy was that hot. I had the spice lingering in my mouth for about 15 minutes and that was just a lick off a small toothpick! I can only imagine pouring that on anything and not having it burn a hole through whatever it comes into contact.
All of the Marie Sharp suaces are great. And they have an area dedicated to sauces that not only have some heat, but are also sweet too. -

Great shop with all everything a chilihead needs. The prices are a bit higher than some online stores but that's reasonable as they obviously have more overhead.
I love their annual hot sauce festival in Old Town, where they have another little shop. The hot sauce festival has several vendors and an amateur sauce making contest. A lot of fun! -

Love this store. It is a most stop for me every time I go to San Diego on business.
Always helpful staff and they will let you try almost every sauce. I was thrilled at that.
They have any hot sauce to meet your needs.
Also plenty of salsa and other specialty items! -

You know that sense of shame? The low, humiliating feeling when someone implements a simple, straightforward idea that somehow escaped you. That's what I felt when I saw these guys offered samples.
SAMPLES??
What?? At a hot sauce place? How have I missed this? Am I shopping at the only place that doesn't do this??
I recovered from my shame and took advantage of this brilliantly simple idea. Hmmmm. Wonderful.
Great selection, Johnny Cash in heavy rotation and samples. A winning combination! -

A good variety of 'spiced up' sauces and much more. The Tangerine Habanero Mustard really caught my eye. If you love stuff with a kick to it, then stop by here. They even have honey which has been spiced up.
2 hr validated parking with purchase. -

Great selection for hot sauce collectors or people into novelty stuff, over-priced and touristy, the two girls working did not say ONE word to us, even when we were paying, they literally just took our money and completely disengaged from connecting with customers. Whatever, I was getting a souvenir for my brother, guess I got what I paid for.

If you love spice, this is the place for you!
They have over 100 hot sauces made with a variety of different peppers. They have a few locked up in a case that you have to sign a waver to buy because they are supposed to be used for cooking in very small amounts. I don't have a very high tolerance for spicy things but they do allow you to try one of their hottest hot sauces in the store! -

One of the best lil stores I've seen at Seaport Village!
Saw the smiley chile logo outside and I had to stop in since I am a big fan of hot sauce. I was amazed at the variety of products they had and even checked out their website when I got home. Expect to be bumping into people if you visit since it's a cozy small store but well worth it. -

It's hot sauce, what more could you ask for? They have a ridiculous number of sauces available, almost all of which you can sample before you buy them. The staff knows their stuff and can give recommendations based on what you like. One of the best things about Seaport Village.

Really cool shop, located at the seaport village.
Its a small shop, but they had lots of lots of hot sauces. Never thought there are so many selection of hot sauces.
They carry hot sauces, bbq sauces, and some pickled something.
The first time I've same to San Diego (8 years ago) I've came by to this shop before and brought a extreme hot sauces before, finished the bottle and since been remincing about the sauce. Finally was able to come back and get some. Worried that after 8 years it wouldn't still be there. But there business was definitely booming. Now available for online shopping.... http://www.2hotlicks.com I'm excited about the available online ordering, now I can order from home. Nice! -

I found this place about a couple of years ago and finally went back this past weekend. Man o man ... if you like/love hot sauce, this is the place to be. The walls are filled with different types of hot sauces. I can never decide on which ones to get, so many to choose from.
This time around I asked the cashier what she liked and she recommended a few but I just chose one, " Marie Sharp's Habanero Pepper Sauce"! WOW ... wonderful =) There's a hint of garlic that goes along with the hot sauce!
I LOVE this place =) I'll definitely be back for more! -

Hot Sauce, Salsa, BBQ, Spices, Marinades, Snacks, and SAMPLES.
You can try just about anything in the store before you buy, this will ensure that you leave with something that you will love.
My favorites are Ring of Fire XXhot, Ring of Fire steak sauce, Marie Sharps, Wao Nahele, and Mexican Candy.
I probably have about 40 different sauces at home and could always use more. -

Here's a new concept after reading a review or two. I am actually going to review the store, not the products that they sell, that you can purchase other places..........
I was down in San Diego with my girlfriend and we were stopping by Seaport Village for something she wanted to find at a shop in there and I noticed they had a 'hot sauce' shop. When I went in, I was in heaven. I love little gems like this, because you can't find them too easily.
Thought he store was packed with a veritable who's who in hot sauces, it wasn't in a way that you were scared that you were going to knock something off of a shelf. That's happened to me a few times where I was afraid to turn around for fear of doing just that.
They have a great selection of hot sauces and their prices are extremely reasonable. And their staff was very friendly. I would definitely recommend anyone to peak their head inside when they want to buy some hot sauce. -

I love this place. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and how can you go wrong with a store that sells hot sauce? Well as long as you are a hot sauce fan you will like this place. They carry everything ranging from mild to very very and I mean very hot. I noticed a quick tip about trying the sauces before buying them? I have never been offered this option when at the store but it's good to know that such an option exists. I'll have to find out next time I go.

I like spicy food and I'm all about trying hot sauces but I want it to actually taste good. I have purchased maybe close to a dozen of the small little bottles of various hot sauces and they all are hot for the sake of being hot.
You cant exactly use some of these hot sauces like you would ketchup. You'll pass out or choke or go into a convulsion. Something will happen.
My friend made beef soup one night and I brought over a bottle of Dave's Insanity Sauce. He and his wife thought I was being weaksauce ( no pun intended ) and they decided to douse the soup liberally with the hot sauce. It completely ruined it. Inedible.
We ended up going for take out at a Vietnamese restaurant, which I paid for, and the bottle of Dave's went straight into the trash.
The little shop is pretty cool and has all these little nick knacks but I doubt if I will buy anything else here. For me its Sriracha all the way. -

I love hot stuff, and I love this place. There is a wide variety of hot sauces, rubs, BBQ sauce, and other piquant snack and condiments from all over. The staff is always pleasant and knowledgable... and passionate, which I think is a must when you're selling bottled pain. The best part? You can sample almost anything so you can decide what to buy, and they give you an appropriately sized sample so you get the heat and the flavor, but not too much of it.

All hot-sauce connoisseurs should make a trek here to the Mecca of hot sauce. They have the most legit selection I've ever seen since visiting Casa de Fruita. They even have that hot sauce that requires a waiver to purchase. Nuts. Whenever I visit SD, I make it a point to visit this place. It's located in Seaport Village; parking is free for the first three hours if you get it validated. I don't know why it has three dollar signs; you can walk away easily with 1-2 hot sauces for under $10, easily. Service is always whatever; the people don't really know much, but come here for the best selection on hot sauces!

they got every hot sauce you can think of. i like the creativity with the names of their hot sauces. they will let you try out almost any sauce except for the really hot ones. cuz from what i heard you have to sign a waiver if you're gonna buy a bottle of a really hot sauce (myth maybe) the only sucks is the prices are freaking expensive
