How funny...I had no idea that the owners were involved with Porta Via...that makes a lot of sense. I used to LOVE their Apollo sandwich! They used to be next to Bellevue Guitars on Old Old Hickory before that...wow.

I have been going to Hot Kabobs religiously ever since it opened. Now that I no longer live in Nashville, Hot Kabobs is the first place to go on my list when I visit. The khoresht fessenjan is, quite possibly, the most amazing dish I have ever had anywhere. I must tell this story.......

I went to visit my brother in San Fransisco and decided that I'd try khoresht fessenjan somewhere else. I figured that San Fran might have what it took and there was this cool new website called yelp to help me. I located what was supposed to be a good place with the dish. Needless to say, it wasn't even close to the dish that Hot Kabobs serves. I was thrilled to return to Nashville and tell the owner this story!

Sorry, had to get that out. The owner is awesome, the beautiful waitstaff is generally fun with a little prodding and the food....yes. I know they serve other stuff at Hot Kabobs....but I don't care. The khoresht fessenjan is different everyday - I like it when it's more tangy. I've spoken to a few Iranians and they've told me not to even bother trying to make it....which is ok because that forces me to return to Hot Kabobs whenever I can!

Having partly grown up in the Middle East and worked at Middle Eastern restaurants, I acquired a critical taste for Persian food.  It's something I must have at least once a month.

I am ONLY rating the Kabobs (ground and chunks) and my experience at Hot Kabobs.

my rating is based on the 1 times I visited the place. I use Persepolis in New York and Shamshiry in Vienna, VA as my gold standards. Out of 5:

1- food appearance and presentation: 3.5
It's a small family restaurant, can't expect it to compete with the bigger restaurants.

2- Aroma and taste: 4
A good kabob should "melt in your mouth".  The food was good, but I enjoyed the kabob chunks more than the ground meat.  I was really disappointing that they didn't have "kabob barg".

3- Service: 3.5
The waitress was not very friendly.  She didn't know much about Persian food (Caucasian).  The owner/cook was pleasant.

4-Ambiance: 4
The inside looked surprisingly appealing.  I expected it to be a "hole in the wall" place. They did a good job decorating the interior. Few Persian decorative articles on the wall. Soft Persian music and most importantly clean.  Patrons appeared to be a good mix of ethnicity.  The overall setting is good for family gathering, casual lunch/dinner or VERY casual business.  Needless to say, it's not my idea of romantic.

Overall I give it 3.75 stars I am comfortable to give it 4 stars for Nashville standards.  Would I go back? YES, but I'll definitely see what other Persian restaurants have to offer first.

I had read the good reviews and was really excited to go to Hot Kebabs. The building is very nondescript but we were surprised at how (relatively) nice it was on the inside. The service was nice and very prompt.

The reason for just 3 stars was the food and price. The food was good but not great. We ordered pretty straightforward dishes and they were cooked well, but not particularly flavorful. The price was also pretty surprising, most meals were $10+ (some more like $14-15) which is a bit much for the place and the food. Of course, I'm a student so I'm a little more sensitive to these things - so if you have more expendable cash, the price is not that big of a deal. But judging from the outside, I was expecting to be able to get a $5 kabob.

All in all its not too bad, but I probably won't be in a hurry to return any time soon.

This is perhaps my favorite restaurant in this city. It's a small spot on White Bridge Road between Charlotte and Target, and you could easily miss it by driving too fast! But do yourself a favor and try some of the best kabobs and stews ever. The khoresht fessenjan is to die for...

Reasonable prices, amazing food, and excellent service in a small and quiet atmosphere. Definitely worth a trip. You will not regret your time and money spent here.

It's oh so difficult to find good lamb in this city. I had a lamb kabob at Hot Kabob's today and it was perfectly medium rare. The lamb wasn't fatty at all. The chicken and steak kebabs are also really really good.

I thought that it was just a little take-out place, so I was surprised when we walked in and it was an actual sit-down restaurant, although small. They do a good business in take-out though. While we were there, there were at least three people picking up food.

I also didn't know that the owner of Hot Kabobs also used to own Porta Via in Bellevue Mall, which closed down (surprise, right?). I ate there a couple of times back when I worked at Bellevue and always loved it, so I'm not surprised that Hot Kabobs is so good.

The cucumber and tomato salad (with mint and spices) that comes with your meal is fabulous. Our bread and salad actually came out first, but I recommend saving both to eat with your meal, because they complement the meat and rice very well.

The portions are pretty huge, so I think next time I go, I might just order off the side items menu. It actually seems more like an a la carte rather than side items because you can order the kebabs on their own and choose your own sides to go with them.

They don't have any alcohol, and I don't think they allow BYOB either, which is kind of a strike against the place, but it is good enough to overlook that fact.

I had no idea what to expect from Hot Kabobs, but I had driven by it a million times so I figured I should check it out. I ate there last week, and it was really tasty stuff.

You might miss this tiny house that's now a restaurant so keep your eye out! I was the only person in the place when I went in, but the girl at the counter was happy to walk me through the menu and give me suggestions on what to have. I ended up with a sampler platter which had both chicken and beef kabobs. The meal came with some tomato and cucumber salad and great jasmine rice. As I was waiting for my carry-out order, several other dinners came in and took a seat. It definitely seemed like they were all repeat customers who really enjoyed this food.

It's a pretty inexpensive meal that I know you'll enjoy. They are also open for lunch with daily specials so I know I'll be back to check those out.
