My girlfriend grew up in Leicester and one of her family's favorite spot is Hot Dog Annie's.  Raving for months about the food, unbeatable prices and signature BBQ dogs we made a trip out for an afternoon lunch.

Located right off of route 56 we pulled into the parking lot with a few other cars and made our way inside.  This place isn't really a restaurant but more like a hot dog stand.  Customers can walk inside, with CASH, order as many hot dogs as they like ($1.20 each) and specify what they would like on the dogs: ketchup, relish, onions, mustard or BBQ sauce.  Everything is packed up in a paper tray (.25 cents) with a few napkins and you are on you way.  You can eat your dogs outside, in your car or in the picnic area.  As I began to eat I noticed that the hot dogs are slightly smaller than the buns.  My girlfriend told me that over the years she believes that they have gotten smaller.  No matter, I enjoyed each one and found having BBQ sauce on hot dogs an interesting taste.

I throughly enjoyed my trip out here and if it was closer I would make it a weekly stop.  Hot Dog Annie's is open all year round and worth a trip out from anywhere.  I think next time I'll have to order more for myself because three hot dogs yesterday wasn't enough.  Haha!

Used to call this the "Silver Grill."  Back when I was a kid, it was 8 hot dogs for a dollar.  Now it's $1.40 each for the BBQ dog, which is their specialty.  Even with a line out the door, the service is excellent and the food is great.  Well, it's a hot dog, but it's better than an ordinary hot dog, and served in a nice toasty bun.

Just a few complaints about the place nowadays.  First, no refills on fountain drinks.  Who does that?  What's worse is that they charge 25 cents for their cardboard trays.  It's nice to have a tray if you get more than two dogs, but they don't even tell you they're charging for it.  A quarter is no big deal, but it seems pretty cheap.  I guess they need to make money somehow.

Finally, the BBQ dog was very good, but not quite what I remember.  They used to be heavier on the onions and made from scratch.  Now it seems like the onions are sparser and that they just opened up a bottle of BBQ sauce from the grocery store and mixed it up with the onions.  Still, I recommend the place because the hot dog is still excellent.

The parking lot is huge and there are plenty of picnic tables outside for dining.  I'm glad I went back there, and will definitely return for as long as they're in business.

I changed my mind. Hot Dog Annie's & Coney Island are like my two children and I have to pick which one I like better. I don't want them to get all Cain and Abel on each other.

I live on the west coast now and haven't been here for years, but for all of my childhood and young adult life HDA was like a religion in my family! After or during camping trips, day trips fishing, sightseeing, or just because, HDA was there. I don't even like hot dogs, but I've been day dreaming about when I can make it back here. some day!

We searched this place out after reading all the reviews this Summer.  These were definitely damn good hot dogs and for cheap!

BUT, what kept us comin' back nearly every Sunday afternoon until October? The Burgers!!! Loved 'em with cheese and grilled peppers and onions. I can feel the juices running down my forearms now! Food porn!

Don't forget to wash it down with their special Root Beer. Yum!

Riding on the back of a Harley is one way to get your appetite going...especially on a hot summer day.  You drive down the back roads behind Worcester Airport and you know you aren't in the city any longer.  Fields and forests line this road to Hot Dog Annie's.

We pulled into the dirt parking lot and got off the bike.  As usual..no matter what time it is, there's always a line here.  My mouth started watering as we got closer to the ordering window.  The building is old and worn but then again...it's always looked like this no matter how long ago or how old I am..ssshhhhh.  If they made it up to date and brand new it wouldn't be Annie's.  We like it this way.  We ordered up 6 dogs and soda and sat down outside to eat in in the dusk of the day.  Perfect setting, perfect dogs and perfect way to end a perfect riding day.

What can I say but I Love this place. It is my guilty pleasure and dirty secret all at once. I first came here when I was in eighth grade, many moons ago. And I might even consider it for a last meal.

Granted from the outside it looks like an over grown fishing shanty. But inside lies hot dog heaven. It is old school at its finest. It is a tradition pasted down in some families. A place where you get your hot dogs in a cardboard box, people breathing down your neck in line, and the screen door hitting ya in the butt on the way out. Do not expect friendly chatting from the ladies serving the food. You wait in line, money in hand, order on tongue, and out you go. Sometimes I feel the soup Nazi has nothing on these ladies.

The dogs are skinny and grilled as well as the roll. The best choice to judge is the traditional BBQ hot dog. They have onions, mustard, and relish also but the trademark is the BBQ sauce. Service is quick and no nonsense. Unless the person in front orders numerous dogs. It happens. I have waited behind people ordering 12 or more, good for "how many can you eat".  (My personal best is six)

The prices are great and on Wednesday you get an extra dog for free. They usually sell the dogs 3 for $4.25 but Wednesdays are 4 for $4.25.  If you don't want a hot dog they have hamburgers. But why would you be here in the first place?

There are picnic tables off to the side to eat at in the nice weather. I find that people just eat in their cars. If you are looking to park somewhere else you can drive a little ways up and sit and watch the planes take off from the Worcester airport. Great for a summer night.

FYI - If you are going to go on your lunch break on a nice day be prepared to wait in a line. It is packed with college kids, construction workers, truckers, and suits all standing out into the parking lot.

This place will scare the crap out of you, but you'll be loving life after eating the best hot dogs like a fat king. This place was a fixture in my life for years. I always say when I pass by it that I will stop and get some hot dogs. Unfortunately I never pass by it.
Rumors have been flying around for 30 years about this place. Everyone's father ate 20 hot dogs in one sitting back in the day, but it's all lies.
Get the BBQ sauce, even if you don't like BBQ sauce, get it anyway. It tastes so damn good.
That being said, I once ate 20 hot dogs in one sitting. No lie!

I am not a huge fan of hot dogs, in fact the thought of them grosses me out completely but when I come to Hot Dog Annie's that all goes out the window.  This place kicks ass!  I have been coming here since I was about 3 years old as I grew up one town over.  The BBQ dogs are the best in my opinion and the staff here is always top notch.  The place looks kind of divey but that what it is, A DIVE!  Plenty of tables outside or you can do what the locals do and eat in your car.

I would put these dogs against anyones.  Dog fight anyone?

My beloved took me here one night after I had spent a day burning beyond recognition on the beach. The hot dogs were OK, but I liked the buns better. We sat on one of the picnic tables, which was nice. It was very entertaining to see people walking out with HUGE bags of hot dogs. Dinners ready,  honey!
I was already irritable with my sunburn, and when I started getting eaten alive by the mosquitos, we left.
For what it's worth, it's like a family tradition in these parts. I may go again if I am ever in the area, but I won't be driving all the way to Leicester just for a hot dog.

Hot Dog Annie's

I am forever in love with Hot Dog Annie's in Leicester, MA. When I was a kid they were six dawgs for a buck and you know I ate twelve. The price has changed but the summer conga line of Hot Dog lovers remains the same as it winds in one side and out the other of this little shack of magic weiners. (Kayem skinnies on a cheap split roll, the works or HDA's BBQ sauce (sweet with big onion chunks).  A tiny shack with a big parking lot of happy hot dog eaters, boxes of hot dogs perched on their laps, parking in rows like a drive-in theatre with no movie. They make a hamburger too but I've nevah had one.
A wise man told me once, "Don't you think that the best Living Museums are the ones that exhibit zero self-consciousness of their Museumness. There are ponderous threads about atmosphere versus food quality and why we choose to eat where we do. Though I am not the biggest hot dog enthusiast the atmosphere at Hot Dog Annies is so perfect I eat a years worth of dogs when I am there." Myself I'll have 4 with the works and 4 w/bbq. Perhaps a large unnaturally orange fountain soda. Did I mention the sauce is pretty good.
These days Dogs are $1.20 each and drinks are $1.10. The Wednesday special is 4 dogs for $4. When I was a kid it was called "The Silver Grill" though we called it "The Greasy Spoon" and when it burned down one night the faithful showed up to watch and hope it wasn't so. Kind've an ultimate weenie roast and wake. Risen from those tube steak ashes and rebuilt as Hot Dog Annie's the price has gone up but the weiners remain the same. Are they really the best? One part hot dog, one part memories. I love the things that don't change even though we do.

Does anyone else have a fondness for these Dogs or am I missing other classics. Coney Island has that great neon sign and Casey's in Natick is a roadside wonder. Simco on the bridge. The old Joe and Nemo. What do we know about New York Process in Providence? And has anyone seen Speed's yet this spring?

A ratty dump but it has really cheap hotdogs, about a dollar a piece. Be sure to try the everything Hot Dog (Mustard, Relish, Onions), and the BBQ Hotdog. Its quite majestic.

This is an old favorite in the area. It is easy to find on a rural highway near the end of the Worcester Airport runway, and is a nice road trip, especially during foliage season. The place is tacky, in a good way, and they have been consistant for many years.
