This place is awesome!

The drinks are wonderfully inexpensive, both during happy hour and not. There is always one really cool bartender and one ahole, but I think that is true of most downtown bars. The menu is primarily pizzas, so I took a pass on that and stuck with the brew.

There are fantastic old couches around, the thrift store kind that you sit on and practically sink to the floor in. The lamps are wonderfully garage-sale-style and you really feel more like you are in someone's basement or garage than in a bar.

Oh, and did I mention that there is a parking lot across the street that is only $1 to park after 6pm? SCORE!

I love it! I will definitely be back!

Heads Up: There is only one pool table, so you get to play if it just happens to be free, which is not often. And, expect to do a lot of "coughing" because the place will get pretty full and it will be difficult to get people out of the way to shoot.

I really wanted to like this watering hole, but alas, no.  The drinks are good, but the food is overpriced for what you get.  The atmosphere is unique, and great for the late 20's early 30's overly tattooed crowd - just not for me.

I appreciate a chatty bartender that pours a good drink, knows when you want to talk, and respects you when you don't.  Two of the three main drink slingers here meet the bill.  The other looks at the patrons as a mark - how big will her tip be.

I am not a hockey fan, nor a steelers fan.  I made the mistake of announcing these two facts to the bar back and door man.  From that point on, I was persona non grata.

When I went to play pool, there were 4 people playing doubles.  I put my quarters on the table (they were miffed because they had a few dollars of quarters under the rail trying to say "this is our table tonight").   The foursome took just under a half hour to complete the game, hoping I would go away.  When they took over 5 minutes to shoot the 8 ball, I was irritated and said "shoot".  One of the overserved foursome took offense, and wanted to exercise his liquid muscles.  I stood my ground with my hands in my pocket while more sober people intervened.  The bar back and door man said that I could come back any time, then asked me to leave, because 3 other people said I was the problem.

I haven't been back, and haven't decided if I will roll the dice again.  There are plenty of other bars that will appreciate my business.

If you don't fit in with the late 20's - early 30's tattooed crowd, this might not be the bar for you.

I spent quite a few hours on a couch at the 'shoe yesterday. It's funny how different things look in the light of day, but I must tell you, I'm quite fond of this place. It feels like I'm hanging out in someone's college basement, in a good way.

You should know:
1. They have wifi - sweet!
2. Their pizza is delicious. Gooey and cheesy (you'll need a fork to eat this, unless you don't mind getting really messy). I was in pepperoni heaven.
3. Mel the bartendress makes a mean hot toddy.

The Horseshoe is unapologetically unfancy.  I'm cool with that.  Happy hour with a selection of canned American beers for $2?  Sweet.  For $3 you get to upgrade to their fancy selection.  Awesome!  The menu is loaded with cheap eats that normally you wouldn't want to deal with - but after a few drinks, they'll save your life.  Tater tots, mini corn dogs and cheap pizza - you won't Jamie Oliver in this kitchen.  Funky food selection aside, the real reason to visit the Horseshoe is that it is a down-home, chill space to congregate with friends without the uber-douchiness of LoDo or the obnoxious tourism of 16th Street.  Pool table and jukebox score more points for this place.

One of my favorite bars in Denver and my favorite neighborhood bar by far. Laid back, no-frills kind of place that still manages to pull off a funky, well-decorated bar with a friendly staff and a great food menu. Cheap PBR and nice variety of beers on tap, infused vodka, and daily drink specials are just another reason I love this place. Their pizzas are delicious AND they have three different styles of tater tots (yes, tater tots). Their plain tots are actually my favorite -- simple, crispy, and deliciously seasoned.

Local live music on Friday and Saturday nights; excellent jukebox selections for all those other nights. They've got a couple of TVs for sports fans, a pinball machine, and a pool table. Can't remember if they've also got board games... guess I'll have to go back.

2nd stop on the Margarita Tour yesterday

I haven't been here before, but have been to their sister bar, Jonesy's, next door.

I heard that there's 1 male bartender here that really does make a great margarita that is worth the trip. Yesterday he was not there... The margs we did get were decent, but to much OJ.

Their back patio is small with warped tables. Not quite my scene.

This place is great! Cool staff, friendly vibe, "vintage rock n roll feel", good DJ's who play sweet rock that you've never heard before, outdoor smoking patio in rear....and Jonesy's is right next door, which is another great place.  The Horseshoe is one of my fav places in the city for sure.

Any first visit that involves a Yelp event is bound to be a positive one, but Horseshoe Lounge deserves this stars even without a Yelp boost.

Had a good time at Yelp Office Hours here, meeting new people and chatting with a few I already knew.  There are a lot of places to sit, but it doesn't feel overcrowded. The decor is fun: imagine Grandma's living room/yard sale leftovers/hipster den...with a shimmering gold & black paint job on one wall.  The lounge chair in the ladies' room left us confused (there's only one toilet, so...)

They have a good selection of liquors (some local whiskys and such) and good happy hour prices. Didn't try any of the food, but I'm sure I'll be back to do that soon!

It took everything within me not to run screaming out of here.  I am a _bit_ of a germaphobe.  One look at the matted red carpet and I knew I was in trouble.  I broke my own rule about only drinking out of bottles at dive bars (one BAD experience with a glass that had been 'cleaned' by a dunking in dirty water).  I nearly passed out from my fight or flight conundrum.

And, then I heard the band.

"Is that Rocky Top?"  The Vols may be an archy-enemy (Kentucky Wildcats are my only SEC love), but after three years of living in Tennessee, I have a soft spot for the song - especially when I am drunk.  Well, it wasn't 'Rocky Top,' but it was some good, fun bluegrass.  In Denver?  No way!!  There were banjos, mandolins, string basses and dulcimers.  I couldn't believe my eyes and ears.  I sat down on a metal folding chair (no way I was lounging on that couch) and got lost in the music and enjoyed myself.  I even drank my beer - out of the glass!  Just as I was marveling at the fact that I hit up two dive bars in two months, I noticed one of the band members was adorned in praise markers to the Dark One.  I, promptly, remembered where I was, my OCD and my desire to not burn for all eternity and left.  But, until I was scurred by the refrains of "Evil" & "Hell" (no joke), I had a good time.

I'm pretty sure I'm not part of the demographic the Horseshoe was created to serve, and yet when I went in there the other evening with my daughter, with tater tots being our primary motivation, I managed to have a decent time.   I was in one of those sorts of moods where I looked around and thought about why I was years older than everyone else in the place, and not a drinker.  Whatever.

It was fine.  I enjoyed the dice on the bar, the smooth cool bartenders, the friendly doorman, a refreshing cola with lime, and buffalo tater tots we shared.

My daughter kept lamenting about bringing her mom to this place, as it's one of the places she sometimes goes to with her friends.  I can understand that.

It would have been nice if Denver had a place like this back in the 70s when I was young & carefree.   Because it is a very cool place.

I love this place!  I've been there twice, but will be back there often.  The bar looks a  lot different than most places in town.  They have really retro furniture and lamps.  We plotted to steal a really cool red and white lamp, but there was no way I was getting that out of there.  They have black walls with glitter in them, which I totally adored.  Oh, and the bar top is covered in dice.  There is a kinda creepy chair hanging out in the ladies room....

There isn't usually a ton of staff working, but the bartenders are super cool and fun.

The drinks are relatively cheap and strong.  They have lots of microbrew beers too.  And the food- tater tots!  We scored mini corn dogs, tots, 4 drinks, and two shots for $23.  That's a bargain if I ever saw one!

The Horseshoe is always a really cozy place to hang out, especially if you have a handful of friends with you and can snag one of the nice big booths. I have had a ton of fun nights here, and those nights always include strong drinks at good prices, tasty pizza and tater tots!

You can't really go wrong at a place that serves tater tots.

The music does tend to be a bit loud at times, but luckily there's a patio in case you prefer intimate conversation.

I wish Horseshoe existed when I lived a block and a half from there, but it was Sweet Rockin' Coffee back in those days.

One of my favorite bars in Denver. A couple pool tables (that are almost always open), couches, darts, booths, buckhunter, a little outdoor patio, decent bar food (including pizza)...what more can you ask for?

I enjoy bars that have all kinds of people. Especially ones that don't have 100% douche bags. Always an interesting crowd here. Best nights are typically non-weekend nights.

You really need to Happy Hour at the Horseshoe Lounge.  Beers are half price, service is speedy (order at the bar), and the the bartenders are always waaay friendly and down to earth.
The furniture is old... like 70's style old with red carpet.... like an outdated basement... but with a big flat screen TV.  The couches are comfy too!  If you want something more intimate, there are some small booths along the wall and the window.  There is a pool table and a pinball machine.  A place with a pinball machine always ranks good in my book.
If you're hungry, they have good, greasy, thin crust pizza.  The tater tots are also pretty tasty -- try the buffalo ones.  They also serve subs, but I haven't tried those.  This is also the place where I tried my first Jameson & ginger ale (based on a poster on their wall) ... mmm mmm good.

If you're a girly, make sure you know how to work a toilet before you come.  On more than one occasion I've had to mess with the inner workings inside the tank to either get the toilet to flush or for the tank to fill up with water again.
Otherwise... fantastic place!!

I DIG the Tots.
I dig the excellent beer and liquor selection (can't go wrong with 5 Barrel on tap).

I could remove a star cause they wouldn't flow me a free beer the day AFTER my birthday, even though I asked for it with a candy grill in my mouth.  But I won't, cause I wouldn't have obliged me either.

I like this bar. I'll definitely be back. It's in the neighborhood, next to Jonesy's (so obviously basking in the glow of amazing macaroni and cheese), spacious, cool bar-top made of dice, legitimately retro-funky, comfortable. The only reason this isn't a 5 star is that the music was soooo loud inside, we had to move outside to the patio in order to talk, and actually hear each other...but bonus...they have a small patio!

We would have asked them to make the music a touch lower, but I'm usually the one enlisted to make such requests, and I had already made a gross remark to a bartender/id-checker guy, so I thought my rogue mouth drew enough attention for one night. Next time, I will.

Oh...and they have Strongbow Cider, hurray!

FYI - If you do get the tater tots, stick with the bacon cheese tots and avoid the pizza tots.  Trust me.

I just gave a shout out to DJ Kursed (Johnny) for playing good rockabilly tunes but I forgot to give a shout out to Gary Lee the bartender. I met Gary Lee over at the Skylark and he is awesome, a real sweetheart. I like good bartenders- a good bartender is always friendly, appreciative, happy to give you a water, and a nice hug!

I sampled a tator tot, super greasy with bacon and cheese. I probably won't order these but if that's what you're into...

The decor is cool, simple and retro but not cheesy or overdone.

I don't go out much but if I do, I make it a point to stop by on a Wednesday at least once a month.

After October's Elite event a couple of Yelpers headed over here to continue the fun we were having that evening. I must admit that I drunk before I stepped foot in the place and promised not to drink anymore. Well I wasn't in there but a minute before I was ordering myself a drink.

Those that were there remember more of that night that I did. I remember an annoyed girlfriend, a Yelper plopping into my lap, a conversation about snow and winter and a bunch of fuzzy looking people. What I don't remember was my little stealing of tater tots from someone's table. Thankfully in my drunken state, I was able to realize shortly after taking them, that they were not mine and I returned them. I had fun here and definitely would go back when sober, to really get a feel for the place.

I think I like the idea of dive bars more than the reality. I like laid back bars, dark bars, cheap bars, unpretentios bars. I don't neccesarily like bars filled with crazy old people who count out their change to get a drink or who make drug deals sitting right next to me (yep, it happened).

I was only in for an hour or two on a Sunday night so maybe I didn't get the full experiences. But I feel like this place didn't really have anything special going for it, though the little sitting areas with couches were a nice touch.

Seems everyone I know has some sort of crazy story to tell about this place...

The location, the atmosphere makes the horseshoe one of my favorites... I have to agree with some of the folks though, every night I've been there I've seen some sort of confrontation...

But that might just be because the tender's make sure you're well tended...

Everybody seems to know everybody, regulars are common, and the staff are quick to make you feel like one of the family... even if the family gets drunk and fights eachother every once and a while...  (But I'd hardly call the place dangerous if you're getting worried about that...)  Everybody seems to watch out for everyone else.

More than anywhere this place makes you feel home, if I drank enough to be a regular anywhere this is the spot for sure!

"I like to pay women for sex," slurred an older gentlemen, squinting one (of two) glassy eyes at me over his fruit cocktail.

Fruit cocktail: Beverage refill layered upon beverage refill in the same glass, with stacked-up and pickled limes. Eight to be exact -- in his tall rum and "colas."

"Um. Super?" I look at my watch. And by watch I mean phone. A watch hasn't gone with this outfit for six years. Where the hell is my BFF?

That's where The Horseshoe Lounge , 414 E 20th Ave., Denver, comes in. The bartenders (and wedded lovelies) were the most fantastic people I had met all week. Quite possibly all month...

Awesome vibe in this bar, it's a total throwback with the domino covered bar and comfy stools and booths. It reminds me of something you'd find on a side-street in Brooklyn. The bartenders are super nice and totally helpful. The beer is cheap and there's a juke box and Big Buck Hunter - what more do you need?

Only down side was we went on a Friday night and it was pretty empty, so we left after a couple beers. If I'm back in Denver, I'd definitely try this place again - maybe on a different day.

My first time here was with the Yelpers after the GD elite event and I must thank our lovely CM, Tiffany, for ordering the buffalo tater tots!  They are delicious!!!  Then I realized on my next visit that they have a variety of flavors so make sure you ask!  I think one of them is pizza tater tots??

Anyway, I was really happy with this place.  The bartenders and the door guy are absolutely amazing and friendly.  And no, they are not just nice to me because I showered them with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Laffy Taffy, and Nerds.  This is because they are genuinely great...but I'm sure if you bring those three to the bar you're guaranteed to be in their good graces.

The juke box is great, they have a pool table, a nice patio, plush couches....  Check this place out, you won't leave disappointed.

My friend from out of town and I met up with my husband for happy hour here on a Friday.  It was a little crowded, but we were able to find standing room next to the bar.  (Close to booze handler=good).  I love the atmosphere, and they had great drink specials for HH ($2 well, wine, draft).

The bartenders were very friendly, and my favorite part was the bar made out of dominoes....it was especially cool after a few more cocktails.  I didn't have any food, and am feeling a little sad reading other reviews about their tater tots....oh well!  Great excuse to go back, right?!?

Please, what's not to love about Big Buck Hunter, doubles so strong they'll still make you cringe when you're four in, and a dice-covered bartop to stare at while your friends laugh at you because you got too drunk too quick.

Seriously, doubles are not necessary.

They have yahtzee tucked away behind the bar so you can play whenever you please.  They also have a variety of other games, Scrabble included, for your pleasure.  And besides the bar area, there's the lounge which looks like a cross between the Ford Theater museum in Washinton D.C. and my grandmother's living room.  And I love every bit of it.

If the Horseshoe were a band, to me It would be The Cramps. Sexy, twisted, irreverent. A little rock, a little more rockabilly, and a lot vintage retro kitch. Good Company, and always entertaining, even on an off night.
The food is great and the service, even better. Try the pesto pizza, and again, I am shakin the hand of the man who takes tater tots and then puts BACON and MELTED CHEDDAR on em, oh, wait, don't stop there, then they have the best freshly made ranch dressing to dunk em in! (seriously, this is the best ranch dressing you will ever eat!! Hidden Valley is like sour milk comparatively!)!
Let me tell ya, once these folks get to know ya, look out! you're never leaving the same! But, even if it's your first time, they'll treat you proper! Someone said this is a 'greaser' bar...I'm not sure what that means, exactly, but if that means fun, raucous, and a party most every night..then I guess it is! (except Monday, which is a little weak)
Have an insane friend flyin in from overseas?  Wanna get into a public liquor-spittin fight? Or just play some pinball and bite the nipples of yer buddy? Well, I suggest you plan yer next one at the 'Shoe!!

Sure, sure. The Horseshoe is cozy with big couches, cushiony booths and nice bar stools. Yeah, the have a phenomenally good jukebox. Okay, they have cheap drinks and friendly bar staff. But, seriously. How come no one has mentioned the tater tot dishes they make? Am I really the only fan of the tater tot? Impossible.

The Horseshoe is a fun neighborhood bar with a really casual atmosphere and delicious food. Plus it just seems like one of those bars where it's quite easy to get yourself into a bit of trouble. Why wouldn't you go?

The Horsehoe Lounge is a nice little place to enjoy cocktails and friends in a low-key setting.  They have oversized red booths lining the dark wall that is filled with sparkles and each booth has its own vintage chandelier-esque fixture hanging above.  In the middle of the lounge, one can actually lounge on the couches that form a u-shape.  These couches also face a big screen t.v., which was showing the Nuggets game- so one is def. able to keep up on their sports games while here.  There's a pool table as well as some old-school video games in the corner by the bar.  The bartenders seemed friendly, and the place had a good ambiance all around.  I didn't try any of the food, but I smelled if from afar and it smelled delicious!  It's on my to-do list to try their pizza next time i'm there for sure!!

by far one of my favorite bars. most of the time the people are chill and very friendly. every once in a while you get some dude who thinks it's his job to tell you that you'd look so pretty if you'd just take off your hat and glasses. (uh huh, that's still not going to make me straight). the people behind the bar are great and the pinball is a blast and i might even kick your butt playing some pool if i've had a few.

they have a sweet back patio that i'm looking forward to using in the summer and if you decide you need to accompany your friend to the ladies room, there's a comfy chair in there. really, i don't get it, but it's in there. and if you get a little rowdy with your friends, the bouncer might give you another shot, even if there was beer spitting involved. and if you get me drunk enough, i guess i can be peer pressured into biting someone's nipple. good times.

All bars serve drinks, but this bar serves great doof.  The meatball sub and any of the pizzas are bonus.  Tater tots:  yeah, trendy and "fun," but get a 'za instead.

The bartenders always change the TV stations for me without making it seem like it's the HARDEST task anyone has ever asked of them, and the couch seating is a great place to indulge in their 1/2-off happy hours after work.  Last night I sat on the couch and watched the Olympiad without sound (the announcers are the WORST...everything has to be such a dramatic "story") for an hour because the bar tender was lacing a killer set of mid-nineties gangster-rap out of the juke.

Place rules.
