For the steakhouse:
OMG! I don't like steak or seafood but I ordered the filet and I was in heaven! I also ordered the Potato and Cheese soup and it was amazing! It came in a giant bread bowl. The cheesecake.... Yum... the cheesecake! I didn't have room for desert but it was ordered for me. As soon as I took the first bite I made room for the cheesecake!
The service was great. My glass was refilled every time I even took a drink. My friend had to wait a while for her alcholic drink and we got a little irritated. BUT then we found out that they were out of the liqour that she requested so he went to another bar in the casino to find it for her! Amazing!
The waitors got together and sang "My Girl" and it was unbelievable! I did not expect that to come from our waiter! They even talked my friend into trying escargot! Very very good food. Although the fact that I didn't pay for it may have influenced my experience.
For the Casino:
This was my first casino experience and I was totally bored! I don't drink so I didn't fall into the "Free Booze to Spend More Money" bit. They didn't have many tables open. They didn't even have a $5 blackjack table open... wtf! Not really motivated to go back... wait except for more steak! 2 stars for the casino and 5 for the steakhouse so we'll call it 4 stars total
The rooms were nice although a little dated. The bad thing was that I booked a non-smoking room and obviously didn't get it. The room smelled like cigarette smoke but I suspected that they had just converted to non-smoking but not the case - there were matches and an ashtray in my room. To me that's a BIG service negative when they don't even tell you they gave you a room other than as requested.
The food is NOT good. I ate at the buffet. It was poor compared with places like Las Vegas and even the L'Auberge du Lac in Lake Charles.
This may be a place to go if you live in northern Louisiana or Arkansas but it's nothing special.
The room was cheap... $95 for a weekday.
The rooms were clean and outfitted with foam beds. Very comfy.
Overall, I agree with Kimberly K, do not expect the same level of execution and facilities that you might have encountered at other Harrah's location. The hotel is large, open 24 hours, and prepared for a lot of guests.
(The majority of the staff just don't seem to get the whole service thing.)
On the down side , the hotel suffers from an overall lack of execution. Yes, there is valet parking.. but the wait for our car was overly long when we were the only people waiting for a car: the room assignment was nearly bungled, and service at the restaurant was painfully slow.
There was confusion at the craps table re: payouts. (I play for the fun, I don't have any foolish notions i am going to "make it big" at the table.. I am there for the play.. and the folks are the table just weren't having that....) It isn't as much fun when they are clearly pushing you to cycle through you chips, yeah, I know it is part of the point but at least they could help keep if fun.
As it was.. i didn't play all my chips.
Oh, and the excuse that the humidity makes the chips sticky is lame. i just don't buy it. This was the one ick factor that will make me think twice before playing at Horseshoe again.
But, I would stay here again ... the mid-week rate was the best in the area.. and made for a change of pace on our road trip.
Tips:
- Be sure to check and double check if you want a non-smoking room, and when they assign you a room on even floor... check again. As I understand it, the even floors are smoking.
- If you are with a friend, one of you go and check out.. while the other goes ahead to valet parking to get the car.
- Use the valet parking
- Bring hand sanitizer

Its been a couple years since I stayed there, but the hotel rooms are still top notch. Probably the best view, highest quality room available in a 200 mile radius. Casino action is decent. Never really won any big money there. The hotel resort also has 5 restaurants, along with the usual feed your face bufftet on the casino floor.
Best casino hotel to stay at in the Shreveport/Bossier area, however, the same room can range from $115 to $600 depending on the season, day of the week, big casino events, concerts, mood of the person taking your reservation, whether or not Wayne Newton is playing, if your breath smells funny, if its raining outside, anything. Its kind of a rip off, but it does keep the usual skank factor down. You know the vibe that surrounds casino hotels... You wont be riding up the elevator with a trucker who just ate a chili dog or a $50 prostitute. But....a $1000 a night escort? Maybe....

This is a review for the casino. I haven't stayed at the hotel, or eaten at any of the restaurants.
Overall I wasn't impressed with the Horseshoe. It was the closest thing to a Vegas-esque place in the area, but everyone inside seemed to have an attitude. I ran into some nasty people playing the table games, and saw plenty of snobish people in the slots area. I liked the atmosphere of Boomtown much better, people with less of an attitude.

All that glitters is not gold. There was a time when the Horseshoe was"the" place to go. The slots were loose, the employees seemed happy, everything was always sparkly clean. The decor is a country western, sorta, fancy look to it. If you are going there to win on the slots, forget it. it's wrong to expect that anyway. Through the years, and the official private hush hush sale to Harras, it has become tighter. You can sit there for hours in the slots and not hear a single jackpot. It used to be different 5 or even 10 years ago. You better be good at black jack or something else, just not the slots.
If you have stopped by for a meal, valet service is fast and the way to go. The dining facilities are a wonderful experience. I would go over and over to these.
The hotel rooms are very plush. You would love spending a night or two there. They have shopping and room service on site. it's just not a place for slots. I would travel to the other local casinos where I have seen more frequent winners.
First I have to say- I have never been to Vegas. But I have been to plenty of casinos. I went with a large group of people and we all had a pretty good time. It's a large place with lots of gaming to choose from. The dealers were all pretty decent people, but the rest of staff could use some training. The atmosphere is nice, decorated in an upscale way. Even though I didn't see a lot of "upscale" looking people, mostly typical casino types. In response to a review below, there were some "working girls" hanging around the casino. We decided against staying after the casino only had one room to offer. We did eat in the first restaurant we came to, right past the lobby, and we were told that it was the best one. The waitstaff argued about who was taking our table right in front of us, but the waitress that did take care of us wasn't too bad. Her attitude could have been better, but we did get everything we asked for. The menu didn't have much to offer. We started with two plates of eat-and-peel shrimp, the best they could offer, and it smelled awful. Most of my table got steak and enjoyed it, but I was in the mood for breakfast (bad choice). Their french fries were excellent thick steak fries, well-seasoned. After gambling, we came back in for dessert and waited so long for a server. We asked someone for help, but when they started arguing again about who would take the table, we just got up and left. Apparently they were too busy standing around. Maybe because we're young they thought we wouldn't be big tippers? Personally, I just think they were really lazy. So that was my experience at Horseshoe!
