Hidden gem in the rough of North Hills...

Solid breakfast and cheap. The service was great and it is great throwback diner. I will be back bc the IHOP's and Denny's of the world are boring and stale. No solid breakfast places in the valley outside of this place.

Very clean too!!! Well taken care of and has a great old school feel to it.

Horseless Carriage is a unique diner. It is decked out in throw back turquoise vinyl and is kit by some insane art deco pendant lamps. Galpin could easily convert the space into a swanky lounge.

The lounge concept makes all the more sense given it's "hidden" location on the Galpin Ford dealership lot. Gives new meaning to a drive-in diner.

I'm throwing an extra star into my review for kitsch and uniqueness. Food is a solid three stars - it's good but not the key reason to try the Horseless Carriage.

Its a 5 star place for anyone deadset on eating on a car lot.

    Yum!!

Due to the crappy economy, I took a second job (I also run a business & write) selling luxury cars at Galpin Premier Collection.

Other than driving luxury cars and working with some really good people, I loved going to the Horseless Carriage, just across the street (see my photo).

We employees ate in a tiny room in the back of the restaurant, off the same menu. Everything I had for lunch was exceptional. Chef Geovanni is formerly of the Beverly Hills Hotel, and the food tastes like it. Even a soup as simple as tomato was prepared with such perfection it reached a superlative state - creamiest, tastiest, plate-licking-est tomato soup I ever had.

Not only did I eat delicious food prepared by a talented chef, but the lunchroom was crammed with my unique co-workers - people who moved from Cuba, Brazil, Russia, always interesting to talk to; a wounded veteran who served in Afghanistan, a former Miss USA, and Mad Mike from Pimp my Ride (filmed at Galpin's GAS - Galpin Auto Sports). Then I'd walk out and see Slash or Jermaine Jackson looking at Jaguars or Aston Martins.

All exciting - but still, the best part? The food at Horseless Carriage.

I just remembered this: I had clients who lived all the way in Santa Clarita, but, after discovering The Horseless Carriage, would drive all the way to Galpin just to eat there, again and again. I saw them walking out of the restaurant so often, we'd just laugh.

I got stranded on business in Van Nuys for about 2 weeks and this place served as many a late night meal, lunch run, meeting place and more.  The staff was lovely and kind.  The food was so much better than I would have expected for a diner inside a car dealership.  I got a special lunch salad one day with grilled shrimp on it and it was one of the best salad's I've ever had.  In 20 years.  I dream of that salad to this day.

I love this place! This is NOT your typical diner! The Horseless Carriage is one of a kind, offering exceptional dishes in a casual setting. They have everything you can imagine from typical diner fare to lobster dinners and buffalo meat burgers, and they are all of high quality, not to mention at great prices too. I like when I go with my family, and they seat us in the private room in the back with the cool fiber optic display on the wall. The service is great too, with friendly and attentive waiting staff. In short, the Horseless Carriage never disappoints and I recommend it to everyone.

This is a true All-American diner.  The food is excellent, especially breakfast and lunch.  The diner has excellent staff that provide super service.   The prices for breakfast amnd lunch are very reasonable considering that your getting such good food/portions.  I recommend the lobster and eggs on a bed of scrumptious home-fries.

The Horseless Carriage is probably a time-traveler's worst nightmare-- how are you supposed to figure out it's 2011, when you wake up inside a clean, classic American diner that looks like it rolled out of 1955?

Once you've answered that one, you're on to bigger and better questions like, "What the heck is this place doing at a car dealership?"

Before you strain too much for an answer, your food arrives.  Finally, after mouthwateringly watching other diners' orders roll out of the kitchen, it's your turn.  Pancakes, sandwiches, salads... Tasty!
Save room for their signature coffee ice cream favorite, the Galpinccino, just don't fall for the rustproofing.

If you're taking your car in to Galpin Ford for service, there is no better spot to kill your waiting time than Horseless Carriage. I've been there a couple of times now, and while I was underwhelmed by the breakfast the hot turkey sandwich was AWESOME!

The restaurant isn't big and really seems to pick up around lunchtime. Booths are reserved for parties of 2 or more after 11am (I think). The menu is pretty big so there are a lot of choices to satisfy your cravings.

First - my reviews are for breakfasts only.
Second - I was not there because I wanted to be. It's because my car was held hostage across the street at the Mazda dealership.
Third - I'll be here AGAIN tomorrow because my engine light is on.

First time - got the banana cream pie (more cream than pie, see pic), coffee and some kind of weekday special. Nothing to write home about. Coffee was watery.

Second time - waffle and egg whites. Was disappointed with size of waffle, especially considering the price. Coffee was less watered down.

Did not experience overly friendly, or even smiling staff on either occasion, but then again, I was there at 7:30 AM. *sad face*

I would never /choose/ to go to this place, but if you are stuck at the dealership for awhile, it's the ONLY place in the area that isn't scary. Has a nice enough ambiance to lurk around in, but priiiiicey.

Let me start by telling you that I spent my teenage years in the south. I grew up on biscuits and gravy, and a week ago I would have laughed if anyone said that I'd have the best biscuits and gravy of my life in California.

    Well, it happened.

My server, Elizabeth, was really sweet and accommodating, and the food was absolutely delicious.  If you're in the area, or just stopping through, you owe it to yourself to eat here.

The Horseless Carriage is a small diner restaurant  across the street from Galpin motors.  There is a small parking lot behind the restaurant.  The entrance is a glass door that opens almost right by the counter, imparting a quaint feel to the entire establishment.  Try not to hit the cashier if he's standing there.  The lunch menu is actually pretty extensive, and I was able to find shrimp scampi on it for $15.95.  The shrimp was quite large (my favorite oxymoron) served on a small bed of yellow rice with  julienned yellow and green squash and carrots.  The shrimp was served with a butter sauce that was quite delicious.  The rice was moist and tasty, a bit salty but otherwise great.

This restaurant is inside Galpin Motors and I recently had the opportunity to dine there while waiting for my newly acquired car to be prepared for me to drive home.  I grew up in a little cafe in the Midwest and my mom was a fantastic cook...the hot turkey sandwich that I had here reminded me of the ones my mom used to make; it was delicious.  The service here was friendly and quick.  The waitress was attentive but didn't hover.  If I lived closer, this would most likely be a regular lunch haunt for me.  I hope I get a opportunity to stop in here again.

The review below wasn't the first I wrote on The Website, but the free calendar I pick up every year at Galpin Ford's restaurant tells me it's been a year since joining this literary three-ring circus.

I've read reviews by some great writers, confirming my long-held theory that many of the best are NOT working in today's professional media.  I've read material that makes me wonder how the Yelper made it out of sixth grade.  And I've read outright libel and shameless fawning over businesses that have a special place in the writers' hearts and minds.

My interest in the talk threads has waxed and waned.  I've never posted a "tell them how you really feel" rant, trying instead to keep it clean, and to foster a wholesome family vibe.  But, admittedly, it is fun to read when others let it all hang out.

The people I have cybermet here and who have become friends are mostly the cream of the crop as I know it.  Certainly, as in real life, some alliances are more meaningful and others fall by the wayside, but I trust the good ones know who they are, and they inject the real fun that makes this The Greatest (Website) Show on Earth.

I forecast more of the same for Year II, which I might enjoy more than the readers who have discovered my work as a sleepytime sedative sans side effects.

And as for Galpin, I still visit here for dinner whenever in North Hills (formerly Sepulveda), the food and service remain top-notch, and maybe in the next year I can review it as the place I bought my shiny, brand-new Ford Focus hatchback.  But don't you just love that recently introduced Nissan Juke?

Service is wonderful! I had a wonderful time and despite the hustle and bustle of the dealership, this was a very relaxing setting. I highly recommend the chicken strips! Freshly battered and fried. I ordered the Lobster and Scallop Linguine which was beautifully decorated and it tasted even better. The banana cream pie was good as well.

Parking is limited, but you can park in the side streets off of Roscoe.

Ok, one of the timeless questions we ask in life is "what do I want for dinner". Hamburger, enchiladas/burritos, steak, pasta?  Maybe I'm gonna splurge and go for prime rib or lobster. Finding one place that serves it all under one roof might be challenging in SoCal and perhaps the last place to look for all of that is a restaurant joined to a large car dealer.  Yup, that's right. You can sit outside and munch on any of those items just feet away from a Ford Focus or Fusion that's newer than the sneakers on your feet (and probably smell better)!

Enter the Horseless Carriage... If you were on the East Coast, it would be defined as a diner.  Good food, good service, great variety.  My dish du jour was the cajun chicken pasta.  A plump chicken breast grilled in cajun spices, diced and served in a a bed of pasta.  The sauce was plentiful but not overpowering, allowing the flavor to come thru.  The noodles were... well, they were noodles.  I mean really, can ya screw up noodles?  I would have preferred more noodles but my stretchable waist pants noticed the pie in the display case and wanted to make room for that.   Served with garlic toast, it was delivered quickly.  For dessert I did have a slice of the forementioned coconut pie.  The slice was good... not excellent, but then it was reasonably priced and a generous slice, so I really wont make a complaint.

If your buzzing along the 405 @ Roscoe, you might wanna stop by.  You might be pleasantly surprised!

Nothing phenomenal. Simple diner fare on the pricey side. We had the triple decker club which used pastrami instead of bacon and added avocado into the mix. This sandwich was super tasty but alas, we also had the "make your own omelet" and this was only so so. We showed up at 12:30PM on a Saturday and walked in and were seated immediately. Having a nice little cafe to grab a bite is super convenient while getting your car serviced at Galpin. If the price was a couple of dollars cheaper per item on the menu, I'd give them 5 stars....

One of my favorite old fashioned coffee shops in town just happens to be at a Ford dealership.  So what?  It almost gets 5 stars just for being unique, but it just so happens the burgers & fries are the perfect coffee shop variety, and the shakes and pies are great too.  Even the chef salad is big & yummy.

I'd never buy a Ford, but I sure do love their Food!

This is a spot where customers come regularly for years and years.

Go hungry.  We went for a late breakfast (I intentionally didn't eat until 1:00 p.m )  I ordered the the Belgian waffle combo with bacon crisp and two scrabled eggs.  It was outstanding and I ate every bit.   Best of all was the waffle.  I don't know what recipe they use but it's a winner.  We sat at the counter.

I went there a month previously and had a chinese chicken salad for lunch which was very good.

Old fashioned service, atmosphere and courtesy and good comfort food with a lot of choices.  The service is always friendly and unrushed.

I have no idea how this place has such high reviews.  For starters, the service was very slow.  The breakfast is overpriced, starts at $10.  The food was average.  Toast was burnt, omelet was bland, and the potatoes were completely unseasoned.  Thankfully I was able to get a new order of toast.  I won't be back.

Who's the clever mamma jamma who decided to park a diner in the middle of a car dealership and then called it Horseless Carriage?!  Now that's classy.

For reals, the bright floodlights and the reflection off the shiny chrome wheels may have blinded you to the fact that there was a diner in the middle of the Galpin dealership building - I know it happened to me for countless years.  Inside is a classic diner throwback that whips up amazing food from the kitchen that will make you want to keep coming back for more.  Omelettes and tuna sandwiches are my favorite things on the menu.  Depending on the date, I'd even consider this to be a fun date destination.  Caution: know your date first before you pull this one off on a first date or you might get stuck on first gear.

Free WiFi, but ZERO power outlets.. Me thinks they don't want their service customers to "hang" too long at the restaurant (even though it's not THAT busy outside of lunch hour)...

Very friendly staff and easy-going diner-style menu make waiting for your car while it's being serviced a nice experience...

Too bad the rest of Galpin's operations has NO CLUE about taking care of its customers... It's as if the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing...

the service is top notch-always friendly-especially Debbie-
and the food is yummy-fresh and tasty-
I wish I could say the same for the rest of Galpin-my experience in the car dealership AND the service dept has sucked-the customer service is SO bad.......however-no one seems to care because they are the largest dealership in the country-but by volume only-certainly not service!

Mmmk, so I work for Galpin (sigh). But for me, working for Galpin doesn't mean I necessarily am going to give this place a good review. However, with their restaurant, I give it 4 stars.
I used to work across the street, and when I was tired of the surrounding P-Express, BK, and Denny's, I would come here. Infact, I would want to come here in the first place. But I wouldn't want to spend all my tip money for the day just on a good lunch.
Galpin did good on this, they added practically ALL KINDS of food on the menu. Of course, its mostly American food, but they do have great tacos and tostadas. My favorites though are their chicken tenders, and their spicy shrimp alfredo. And their chicken strips arent just the tyson kind that you stick in the oven, nono, these are actually breaded in the kitchen. Which brings me to my next point, I used to see what goes on in the kitchen, thats where the employee back room is. They really do take the time to make everything so it doesnt taste like it just came out of the freezer and into the oven. Good job Galpin.

Oh yeah, and the Mustangs aren't bad to look at either, but I'll stick to my sexy little Mazda. :)

The best eating in the Valley. The family that owns Galpin eats in their own restaurant every day -- so you know it has to be good. Everything is made in-house - 2 soups per day, the salad dressings, pies everything! Burgers=great. Onion rings=the best. Salads=huge. Our business is down the street, so this is one of our regular lunch places. Fridays they have delish clam chowder and fish and chips (with homemade potato chips). We get the daily specials because it is a lot of food and comes with soup or salad. Not cheap - a sandwich can be $9.95 - but high-quality and huge portions. So it imight be a ten dollar tuna melt or BLT, but it will be one of the best you ever had. We love our pals who work there - many for 5-10-20 years! They are a professional wait staff. We regularly bring people to eat here from out of town, they get a kick out of seeing a restaurant in a car dealership.
