I have been here many times over many years and the one thing that draws me back is the unparalleled view. In-f'n-credible!
Came here last Sunday around noon expecting a wait for a patio table. What? No wait? Sweet! We actually opted for the bar that runs along the outside perimeter of the patio, affording unobstructed views of SF and the bay immediately before us. It was a perfect setting, not a cloud to be had, allowing us a clear view of the jewel that is SF. Beautiful indeed!
Oh yeah, the food. It's not why we were here, but it is better than I would expect coming from coastal OC where the better the view the less they try. Had the crab sandwich, which was good, not great, and came with a very generous, very fresh garden salad.
Lady Friend had the smoked salmon omelet that she reported to be "ok". To be fair I'm guessing the food would have to be over the top fantastic to compete with the view.
Our server was really cool, I informed him we were in no hurry and wanted to enjoy some champagne before considering the menu and he was very obliging.
Prices are more than fair for all of the above and I will always have it on my to do list when visiting SF. It is more than worth going just for an excuse to motor over the Golden Gate Bridge with the top down.
God I love this state!!
My bf mother is in town from NY and I wanted to take her somewhere for brunch that reflected the great seafood we have here in the bay area and also close to some great boutique shopping. One of the shop owners suggested Horizons.
I should go back and give that lady a hug. Horizons was amazing. First, it is set right on the water so you have this amazing view of the SF skyline. The staff is very nice and accomodating and the comfort level was very cozy and inviting.
We ordered peach bellini's (YUM) and I had the egg's benedict and my bf mother had the lobster eggs benedict. We also shared an order of calamari.
Ok, let's start with the calamari, HUGE portions, very fresh, and it comes with three different dips...all spectacular.
The eggs benedicts was perfectecly cooked and the hollandaise was on point. The sweet potatoe hash was dynomite! She has the lobster benedicts, and let me just tell you, that lobster had very generous portions! She was so happy with her order, she said it was the best brunch she has ever had.
I am planning on going there many times, and taking my bf there. I glimpsed over at their dinner menu...and can't wait to try it!
We decided to eat here knowing the "parking" would be easy. The view of the bay is five stars. Try to get a table on the deck or one next to the window. The service was slow. Everyone enjoyed the food but the slow service was disappointing. I recommend the brick chicken with roasted pasilla pepper, polenta and avocado torilla-lime sauce. I guess in Sausalito it's called avocado torilla-lime sauce but we call it guacamole in Silicon Valley.
TIP: Bring a camera and your patience.
I came here for brunch since I took the ferry over from san francisco.
They had mediocre brunch food. Not much options. Tried the egg benedict and omlette, but both were just ok.. Edible but not the best I've tasted.
The ambiance is very old fashion. Reminds me of an old wooden pirate ship. But they do have huge windows to view the bay.
Prices are reasonable. Around $30 including tips for two.
Come here if you are looking for a place to eat with a nice view in sausalito.
We chose to come back to this venue the other day, on a Thursday night.
There weren't a lot of people and we were seated promptly outside by the water.
For those of you who are not living in Sausalito and have only stopped by over the weekends... there is a good reason to try coming during the week. Why? First off its so much less crowded and you can most likely get a good table without a reservation. Secondly... and this is the big reason.. many restaurants here have weekday specials.
Particularly with Horizons, I highly recommend trying their Thursday Lobster special! Which is what I ordered this time... and it was so satisfying I almost died.
First, pick from their ceasar salad or clam chowder. I recommend the chowder. It's not in a breadbowl, but it is excellent and a perfect portion for a part of the course.
Then comes the giant lobster. Talk about impact! Whole Maine Lobster, Claws, Head, Tail, everything, sitting over some delicious risotto with fresh seasonal vegetables (in my case it was green beans) on the side. Oh and with drawn butter. YUM!
After the main dish you get a few desserts to choose from. I went for the Sausalito Mud Pie, which is basically a cake that's made of chocolate/espresso gelato which a dollop of whip cream on top. It was not too intensely sweet and it was a perfect finish.
Oh and did I remind you about the perfect VIEW from this restaurant yet???
Now, here are my personal tips when ordering this course.
I was there with my husband and our friend. Our friend already had dinner, so he just opted for drinks, so the only people that wanted to eat were me and my husband. This is what we did to be enjoy the experience but cut a little $$$.
We ordered Fried Calamari (also highly recommended) to share between us two.
Then my husband got a clam chowder in a sourdough bowl. (Not shared because I got my own in a cup with my lobster course)
Then when the Lobster came, we shared that.
Then we shared the Mud Pie between all of us including our friend.
We were both totally full and happy... and we basically only got one dinner course and two sides : )
We'd love to come back and repeat order everything we had again. And seriously, guys, come out to Sausalito on weekdays! Your wallet will be happy, your tastebuds will be satisfied, and you will definitely be welcomed by the restaurants here : )

Great Happy Hour and servers! The view is amazing! Fish tacos are very good made with fresh fish. Ask for a roasted jalapeno on the side.
5 Stars on the Splendid View!
5 Stars on their AMAZING, scrumptious Banana chocolate cheesecake! (Details later)
3 and a half stars on service
4 stars on my lobster (a few parts were firm, others were tender)
3 and a half stars on the mud pie
4 stars on the dungeness crab
Does that add up to 4 stars? I hate math! =P
So my bf and i went to Horizon's and had a wonderful time. The view was spectacular after the fog cleared away. Our server was okay, he wasn't too friendly but attentive (He doesn't compare to James at the Society Cafe in Encore!) Our food came out fast, the temperature was A-Ok! I also enjoyed the clam chowder, too!(4 stars) My rice and asparagus was decent. Overall, I enjoyed this place. Bring a jacket cause it is FREEZING! (Outside of the restaurant, not inside :))
Ok, so the banana cheesecake was the BEST thing that we ordered. We loved it so much that we ORDERED another one, isn't that fatty? Soo fatty... =P
WOW.. Yep, this may be one of the most exaggerated adjectives used on yelp, but in the case of this restaurant, its the word that best describes my lunchtime dining experience.
Why should you come here? It's simple, everything is really really good.
What to try:
Clam Chowder - Seriously, I've never had a better cup of chowder.
Fried Calamari - Always a great option, especially when its this fresh tasting.
Fish & Chips- Solid
Crab Melt - Outstanding
Shrimp Sandwich (Half sandwich of the day) - Courtesy of Tiffany, "YUM, soooooo good."
Where to sit:
Sit indoors by the window. Hopefully, you will also be able to feel the nice ocean breeze and beautiful view of the ocean.
We decided to spend the afternoon in Sausalito, which we do frequently when we are visiting my dad. I was hungry, and as we were walking along the main street, we noticed Horizons Restaurant, which, apparently used to be the Trident, someplace that hippies used to go for a nice meal. My dad loved the Trident, and was excited to be back, even under the new name and management.
I had a clam chowder (since I love clam chowder) which was decent, but nothing spectacular. I guess I have to go to Boston for that. Anyway, we ordered the artichoke crab dip, which had real, fresh lumps of crabmeat in it and was delicious. The men ate most of it, though, so I only got a few bites. Then I had the crab melt, which was the first one I've ever had, and probably the only one I'll ever have (as in order it again when I'm there, but nowhere else), because it was so amazing.
And the view was beautiful. You seriously can't beat the views from various parts of the bay area...truly spectacular on all counts!
You go to Horizon's for the deck seating and view back to SF, but we found the food and service pretty good too.
My dad really enjoyed his crab melt with huge accompanying salad. He and I also each had a cup of chowder, which was good. I split the fish and chips with my son, which is not necessarily the dish I'd have chosen (or the one I'd like to evaluate a restaurant on) but the outside was nice and crispy and the inside tender. It came with three pieces, which was more than enough for the two of us, especially when you consider the mound of overly salted fries that came with.
Dad particularly liked the local porter (beer) he tried and son found the fresh-squeezed lemonade just right. As the driver, I stuck to refreshing water. We were all thirsty after a windy walk across the GG and back. Music seemed to be classics from the 60s and 70s, which tickled my dad. It was the type of oceanside atmosphere we like to sit and savor, preferably over a few drinks...but that will have to wait for another day.
Total damage $66, including tip. Certainly not too much to pay for a lovely day with grandpa.
I thought that Horizon's would be the type of restaurant that I would bring my Southern Belle aunt to experience some of dat der Dungeness crab, while rolling my eyes and plotting my excuse to skip the meal and not offend my genteel family.
Once again, I was wrong.
It is wharfy and seemingly like any typical coastal restaurant that overcharges and undersatisfies. Had I sat inside, I would have been disgruntled. But the view from the deck is kiss my shoulders amazing (on a nice day.) Angel Island, Alcatraz, the bridge, SF, seagulls ready to pounce...it's all there, just laid out like a painting in front of you.
Being an eggs benedict girl, I loved the bennies with dungeness crab. Hollandaise was perfect. Paired with two bellinis, I had no complaints.
I would never sit inside here; sitting on the deck IS the experience. I mean, I can get great benedicts all around the city, but a near panoramic view OF the city is something special.
Horizons is a great restaurant if you want to eat somewhere in Sausalito with a fantastic view. I always ask to sit outside which I would definitely recommend. I love to bring family and friends here when they visit because it's fun for them to eat good food in a great location (and at a reasonable price!)
My favorites here are the mussels (sp?) and the fish tacos. But really there is nothing here that is bad...I definitely recommend!
Horizons has the potential to be one of the best restaurants in Northern California. I mean, it has an amazing view of the bay; a very cool, pirate ship-like, but strangely classy interior; and the location in Sausalito makes it one of the few waterside upscale restaurants to choose from. The outdoor deck is one of the sweetest places to eat a nice lunch on a sunny day.
The food, however, was just okay. I will give props to their clam chowder, which has so much rich flavor to it that I would say that it's one of the better New England clam chowders I've had in a while. The rest was just so-so. We ordered the crab & artichoke dip, which was okay, but a little too overdone (the cheese hardened faster than super glue) and would have gone better with tortilla chips or bread, rather than the burnt mini toast crackers that they come with. I ordered the salmon, which had a good flavor, but it just wasn't presented very well. It looked dry and overcooked, which definitely affected its taste. Also, for $24, my salmon was extremely small -- c'mon it's just freakin salmon.
The service was pretty good -- we had this Asian dude serve us who was decent except for some abandonment issues. He disappeared on us when we needed him the most, but he was personable and attentive when we didn't need him.
Anyways, if you're making a trip to Sausalito and it's a beautiful day, I think Horizons is worth trying out. Have a few drinks and some clam chowder as you sit on the deck, watching sailboats and kayakers. It's the atmosphere and the views that make this place worth trying. However, if you're all about the food, then I would definitely keep your expectations lower.
It is a place that subsidizes sub-par traditional wharf food with a view that is really what you pay for. Great deck, great views, pretty darn good service too. But the salad my friend ate looked drenched in Mayo and a couple shrimp. My $18 Fish and Chips was soggy, and hardly worth $10. Great people, and they will do fine with all the tourists that don't yelp, so I don't really feel bad at all.
they will do fine.... just avoid. Venice Gourmet across the street has a great deli. Or head up the street to the vague "Fish & Chips" place by the ice scream parlour just past the Casa Madrona. Trust me.
The first time we visited Sausalito, we went to The Spinnaker with the family. It was good, but all we ate were oysters. This time back, we wanted to try something else, and after walking for about an hour, checking out various menus, we decided on Horizons.
They have quite a lot of seating, both inside and outside on the deck. The deck was full and it was also quite hot outside, so we got a table right by the window - perfect - got to have the sun stream in, with a cool breeze also.
I got a bellini to start off with. It was OK. Tiny though, in a very thin champagne flute. It also lost all its fizz in about 5mins. So I was basically drinking watered-down OJ.
Anyhow, we started off with the Oysters Alcatraz and they were delicious! They were gone in a flash. Mmm. The cheesy sauce, with some spinach (I think), on top of the oyster, then baked. Sooo good.
The hubby got their fish special of the day which was Mahi Mahi on mushroom risotto. Hm. The fish was good, fresh and topped with mango salsa. The "mushroom risotto" was nothing more than savory rice with mushrooms. My mom makes that weekly. Anyhow, I guess we came for the fresh fish and not the side dish right? So ok, it was good.
I ordered the crab salad melt sandwich. Too much bread for my liking (read: dry), and not hot enough. I ended up scooping the salad/cheese off the bread and eating it along with the side salad it came with. So I was satisfied, but it wasn't the most phenomenal menu item either.
Overall... if you try this spot out for lunch, get a table either outside or window side... order a few beers, get those delicious oysters and maybe a good salad to share. I think that's what we'll do next time.
Awesome laidback bayside atmosphere though!
My husband and I really enjoyed our Sunday brunch here. We had reservations and got a prime window seat inside with a view of the bay and SF that could not be matched.
I had Huevos Rancheros and champagne (hello, it's brunch), and my husband ordered the Eggs Sausalito. I really wanted the Eggs Sausalito, but changed mine since you can't order 2 of the same dish. Que no?
Turns out, I *should* have ordered the Eggs Sausalito. Man, why do I always go with the wrong menu choice?? I should have followed my heart. Agh. Husband's plate was sooooo good! The combination of eggs benedict with avocado and tomato was perfect perfect perfect. Don't get me wrong, the Huevos Rancheros were very good, but I was left a little sad that I got talked out of my first choice. poo.
Great waiter, best view and a pleasant start to any Sunday.
My boyfriend and I decided to spend the day in SF. It was cloudy day. On a whim, we took the ferry to Sausalito with the intention of catching a light lunch or wine tasting, or having a cocktail. Although it was cloudy in SF, it was a warm sunny day in Sausalito! We walked around and found a place with patio seating... Horizons.
We sat outside and the view was amazing. Our waiter, Tom, was very friendly. We ordered the shellfish platter and half a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. They paired beautifully. Then we moved to the outside bar seating and it overlooked the water.
The food was delicious - fresh seafood. The server was excellent - but not everyone on staff was on the same level. So 4 stars!
When the "Lady K" and I lived on the other side of the bridge we had these neighbors who we really liked. They were the kind of couple you could leave a note on their door and ask them to get your mail for a week as you were racing out of town to catch a plane. Just good folks!
We had been trying to make plans with them for the entire time we lived across the hall from them. Our busy schedule and theirs just never merged and plans for brunch never panned out UNTIL now that we've moved away.
They love Horizon's and the "Lady K" and I love sitting out on deck enjoying a bloody mary and some great eggs. It was Mother's Day and the place was packed but not crowded. The service was not over bearing but personal. The food was good but nothing to give more than three stars for. The drinks were inline with the food.
Places like these can get away with the above because the view makes up for it. So if food and drinks that might not rock your world but a killer view that will make you fall in love with this town again do, check out Horizon's. Enjoy!
4 **** - mainly for the phenomenal view of SF!
My wonderful bf took me here on the drive back down from Mill Valley..
Yeah it's tourist-ey but nothing beat the sun, sitting out on their deck and the view of the city.
We ordered bloody mary's (mine was nice and spicy and horse radish-ey!)
Started off with the oysters as an appetizer, and they were finger lickingly delicious!
We both had the fish and chips for our main dish and it was cooked perfectly...I like how it came with tartar sauce and cocktail sauce.
It was a wonderful lunch that we both enjoyed and I'd definitely come back again :)
The staff was pleasant enough....had a short wait on a Saturday afternoon. We had opted for the seating outside since the weather was so nice. We were seated right by the entrance in and out of the patio area so that was annoying. But that was the only seat in the shade, otherwise we were blistering in the sun.
We were served our drinks immediately and since our location was in a busy area, it was only a matter of time before someone's big ol' butt bumped into our table and spilled our drinks. Grr!
We ordered the crab/seafood cocktail....not really what I had expected, and did not have much taste to it, considering it was crab...go figure!
I ordered the crab louie salad and my hubby had the fish and chips. My crab louie salad was medicore, have had better, nothing about this really impressed me. My husband's fish and chips were ok...again, have had better...in probably less expensive establishments.
All in all, would we go back? NO. We ended up at Horizon because there wasn't much of a wait and the views were nice....that's the only thing going for this place...nice views outside. But then again...great views in Sausalito are a dime a dozen....so don't waste our time here. Food is not that great.
This is the best place to go to watch the full moon and have an amazing Caesar salad. they have great bar tenders and a pretty good price on happy hour food and drinks
beautiful old Marin setting looking over the bay, Oakland, Emeryville, angel island, and San Francisco.
Expected this to be a tourist trap, and it actually was surprisingly good food.
Came here on Friday lunch, after biking over the GG Bridge with a buddy. This had a slightly better review than Scoma's, so decided to go with it.
They had a Dungeness crab set lunch for $32, which included a clam chowder starter, not too bad. The main was a choice of either cold crab on a bed of lettuce with dipping oil and 1000 island dressing or the warm crab in a garlic broth and garlic bread. I got the warm crab, and there was a lot of meet, probably a full crab with an extra set of legs. Much more meat than I expected. Dessert I had the apple pie and ice cream and that was also damn good, but we had to hurry to the ferry back to SF.
The tap beers were down, which is a crock of shit. Fix the thing, it can't be that hard. So had to go with a Leffe.
All up, lunch for two was about $90, and we walked away pretty full. As others have said, the view is spectacular, just be sure to order with enough time to make the ferry home.
Horizons is strange blend of a tourist trap and sailing club. If you don't want the staff to be rude to you. You should flip up the collar of your pink polo shirt, wear white shorts, tie a sweater around your shoulders and stand with your hair in the wind for an hour before you arrive. Both times I went this past week, the service was terrible.
Yes, yes. The view outside is just amazing. If you're bringing people from out of town it's not to be missed. And seeing that you can get out there and just order a drink. I highly recommend the place for happy hour. But one time when we went, I was pretty angry because the host told us that the outside was completely full for reservations. We ate dinner for two hours and at least 5 or 6 of the tables remained empty. We saw various schooner captains say they preferred to sit outside and they took them over right away (if you haven't guessed already, I do not own a boat. If you do, it might be best to bring it up and tie it to the dock, so everyone's view is blocked).
The food isn't very satisfying. Especially for the price. The only real option for a vegetarian is a salad or a garden burger. Those who had the lobster and fish were underwhelmed. We ordered a pizza later that night because we weren't full. My favorite part of the night was the post-dinner irish coffee. One of the best I've ever had. And the wine list is pretty reasonable too.
It's great to go around dusk and watch the lights of san francisco turn on and the pelicans nose dive for dinner. And they'll usually have a jazz band playing as well.
We took a day trip up north to do a little sight seeing and hiking. Two friends of mine were in from New York and we enjoyed seeing the little shops of Sausalito (although everything was closed). We wanted to grab some dinner with a great view and enjoy some wine.
We walked by Horizons and a woman was in the midst of changing the outdoor front dinner menu. She informed us that the Monday night drink special was not only Happy Hour but that all bottles of wine were half off.
We sat near the window overlooking the bay, enjoyed some appetizers, and had a bottle of Reislings. We were provided with good service and without the pressure of ordering full entrees.
Long story short, we were not only satisfied with the service but the overall time we spent at Horizons. I'd definitely come here again for dinner and the awesome half off wine (Mondays!).
An awesome place!
Fresh good oysters and ahi tuna is really yummy.
A perfect afternoon for catching up with a roommate and friend from college:
- ferry to Sausalito, after watching the fog lift at 11am
- short stroll to Horizons, sit facing the water, sip coffee and eat grilled salmon sandwich with aioli and sun-dried tomato toppers, cough up $18
- walk up the hill, away from the shops, breathe in fresh winter air, and feel the meal digest
- remain full for the rest of the day and night
For the area, the price makes sense. The food satisfies. Comfy chairs. Clean and slightly fancy. Quick service. It works.
The deck is super crowded but worth it for the view. My fiance and I sat on the bench facing the ocean so the waiter had a little bit of a hard time maneuvering through the tables to get to us.
I had the Asian Chicken Salad, which was pretty good and my fiance had the Seafood Brochette, which he really liked (and he's not the easiest to please).
It seems kind of weird to me that the lunch and dinner prices are exactly the same.
everything seemed to be in order for a nice evening. beautiful weather, great views from sausalito and nice looking restaurant on the bay. things went sour right away when the hostess flashed us attitude the moment we walked in. i guess the prospect of seating people in a half empty restaurant was too much. when we asked to sit elsewhere from her initial spot, she rolled her eyes at us. nice one.
we were pretty distraught w/ that and hoped the food would make up for that but that wasn't the case. my sis-in-law sent back the sole dish she got because it was overcooked and dry. she ended up getting the same dish as me which was the sesame crusted ahi tuna. while it was good, isn't this dish on almost every menu in the bay now? sure it's tastes good but how about some originality. wifey got the heirloom beet salad and a baked potato. the salad was decent but the baked potato was cold. we didn't even bother changing it. needless to say we were motivated to leave after dinner and didn't stick around for dessert.
the service was slow too and our server never came by to check on us. they messed up our bill too by not deducting the sole and adding an additional tuna dish on top of the 2 that we got. they resolved it but it took a while and frankly should've never been on there. that may be nitpicky but after an evening of a sub-par dining, it was just icing on the cake...
Amazing waterfront views but, unfortunately, it doesn't make up for the dissapointing food and overpriced menu items.
The music was great, though. Fantastic flute player and awesome Calypso music tonight. Our server, Nick, was awesome, too. But, the food...well it was entirely bland and unimpressive. The asparagus gets 4 stars, though. But, at 5.95 for a side, I expected a few more pieces. It was kinda like a twix bar, all for me - none for you. The sangria tasted good, but it was mixed with soda water and tasted more like a soda. I think the bartender forgot the alcohol. Boooooo.... I'd rather go to Sol Food anyday.
I went with the husband and in-laws last Friday for dinner and the best view this side of the bay.
The prices were pretty high for what was offered. Also, the place wasn't crowded and it was Friday night, so that put me on alert. Luckily, we had a coupon for 20% off the bill so I didn't mind the prices too much. Three of us ordered the Crab Feast, which includes soup or salad, a steamed crab in wine and garlic, and a dessert. All of that was $30/pp. My mixed greens wasn't good. The dressing was too much and I probably should've ordered it on the side. MIL got the caesar salad and she seemed to enjoy it. J got the clam chowder and he thought it was good (but he loves clam chowder so I don't know how much weight to give to that opinion).
The crab was good. It was messy and yummy and fun and I thought that in itself was worth $30. I actually didn't even finish my crab so J helped me out. The garlic bread that comes in the bowl so you can sop up the juices was divine ~ all garlicky!
For dessert, there were 4 choices. At this point, I was too full to think about dessert, but it's included so what are you gonna do? I got the apple cranberry crumble. It was only ok. I've had and made better. J got the mud pie and he liked it a lot, even though he's not a fan of coffee-flavored foods.
The best part of the evening was the fantastic view! With this weird warm January and clear skies, all the twinkling lights of SF shone brightly across the bay as we enjoyed our dinner. It was postcard-perfect!
Great food and drinks, Spectacular view! I was visiting some friends in San Francisco, and they took me out to lunch to this restaurant. Valet service provided.
We sat outside on the patio, and never having been to Sausalito, I quickly fell in love. I had the fried calamari, crab sandwich, and a bloody mary to drink. I was completely satisfied, although it was a bit expensive. My friends wanted a cigarette and where told they had to leave the restaurant to smoke, haha, it made my day.
Two words - pineapple margarita. Fantastic.
I was here in August - stopped in after biking GG.
Had lunch out on the deck over the water - definitely worth the wait!
The sun was shining and the pineapply margaritas in their swirly glasses with sugar rims were awesome - even the "man" had one.
I had the sesame-crusted tuna and it was superb.
I'll bring Horizons back up to 4 stars because after my last review the owner was very quick to contact me on yelp and take care of the situation. I have been back since, but not during happy hour. The food was great as always and the service was good too.

Horizons is one of the best places to be on any given day. As soon as you walk into the restaurant, you feel as though you stepped foot on a cruise boat. The restaurant is shaped like a boat from the interior and there isn't a single bad seat in the house.. Boat I mean. =)
I like sitting on the railing of the patio to get the ultimate view facing the city. The restaurant offers valet parking and prompt seating.
Horizon's has the freshest fried calamari. It's panko crusted style not beer battered and thick w/little calamari rings. It goes great w/a cold Hef or their signature margaritas. Treat yourself to a lazy Sunday at Horizons.. it's a feast for the eyes and your appetite. Happy sailing!
Amazing view. We had a nice outdoor table- I definitely would not want to sit indoors here if it's a nice day. Not a big menu but has the basics covered. I had a chicken pesto sandwich and it was pretty good. You'll pay about $14-$20 for a lunch entree. 3 stars for the food and an extra one for the view.
One thing's for sure--you'll get bigger portions, better quality, lower prices, a shorter drive, and less crowds than at Sam's, and with the same great view across the bay. The inside is a dark wood, deco-nautical affair, a bit 70's, that wouldn't be out of place at Trader Vic's. Nevertheless, the brunch menu is pretty limited (hope you like eggs benedict), and still on the pricey side (think ~$15). But, despite being right on the water, Sausalito doesn't offer many other brunch-with-a-view options when you're trying to wow visitors.
Of course, that's always the problem with showing people around SF--you've only got one chance to make an impression, so you feel compelled to go for the flashy stuff, even though you know it's the subtler, grow-on-you pleasures of the city that truly make it worth living here. (Which is also why I prefer an immersive, screw-the-sights-just-live-the-lifestyle approach to traveling, but I digress). But how to convey the wonders of Rainbow Grocery to someone who's just in for the weekend? Until I figure that out, Horizons at least is a safe (if unexciting) bet, so I grudgingly give them 4 stars.
I go here a few times a week. Plain and simple review here.
The place is pricey.
The views are worth it.
The Food is pretty good.
The views make up for it.
The Drinks are great!!
The views make them even better!
Have a nice beer, or cocktail from Antonio. He mixes a mean drink, and always stays on top of his service.
I had a scallop salmon Brochette ( skewer ) dish with jasmine rice ($21). It was $35. Absolutely worth every bit of it. I love this place. Although my dish was heaven, I only gave four because one person in our group told me his dish was undercooked.
You can't beat the view, but the food didn't warrant the expensive price tag. Still good food and great service. In retrospect, I should've eaten at one of the other less expensive eateries and come back to Horizon's for drinks. Expect to pay $15-20 a dish for lunch.
TIP: You lose the direct sunlight on the deck after 1pm. Get there before that.
The best part about this restaurant has to be the beautiful ocean side views. The oysters were fresh but overpriced ($2-3), the catch of the day was a fresh halibut that melted in your mouth- prepared with a truffle oil and seasonal organic vegetables. The wine selection is impressive. A good solid restaurant with that open, airy, fresh new american feeling. The service was not impeccable and for this price range there are many other restaurants that hit all their notes a bit higher. Needless to say a worthwhile venue even for pre-dinner cocktails with that special person.
Parking is validated which is nice since street spots are limited in this exclusive town.
Ambiance: Dark-stained wood, maritime themed decor
Cost: $50 per person
