Just like David G. said...the style of furniture at Horizon is "art deco" for the most part but EXTREMELY versatile.
I found out about HF about 7 or so years ago when I was searching for stuff from that period...and low and behold...out popped an article in the LA Times (or was it the Weekly?). The article specified that HF SPECIALIZED in reproducing art deco period pieces...I was sooo NOT let down!
After visiting Rapport (again, like David G., mentioned) I found their stuff to be a wee bit too "glassy" and "cold"...very geometric type stuff with no warmth whatsoever. Horizon is just the opposite. They have the clean lines like some of the stuff at Rapport but the fabrics are so much nicer and more rugged, enduring, and cozy.
I ended up shelling out about $2400 for a 7 x 7 sectional sofa (had the option of 7 x7, 9 x9, or any combo there of) and I picked a kickin' kind of boucle (think more nubby terry cloth!) in an off-white/oatmeal color. I i'm happy to say...in the 7 years i've had it, it's only been cleaned ONCE!!!! AND...I have a boyfriend who's messy and a cat who likes to claw on occasion. You can't even tell....the cushions have remained firm, the color is still great...the thing just holds dirt!
My sofa came with like 6 or so pillows in whatever fabric I chose (I went with matching!). Oh...and it makes a GREAT bed for two people...when friends come to visit they LOVE it!!
Also...I really wanted a leather ottoman but couldn't find a square one in my preferred dimensions...well, went here about 4 years ago and they custom-made one for me for about $600 or so in a lovely chocolate brown. And it looks FABULOUS with my sofa. (I'll include pictures! lol)
Anyway...if you're looking for quality stuff or even a lamp or piece of art...give Horizon a chance.

My favorite L.A. furniture store. They have a unique collection of early 20th century and later modernist furniture. If you are into REALLY modern furniture, you are probably better of at Rapport (on LaBrea), but the stuff at Horizon is a bit more transitional and less cold (think art deco). Prices are from mid-range to you-must-be-kidding, but still more affordable than Robertson and Beverly or the PDC.

CLOSED - THIS PLACE IS CLOSED. I recently went there because of the reviews here on Yelp! I got there and saw the signs saying that they are closing - now closed as of 7/31/07. Went in and saw ridiculously high prices furniture "on sale" for the closing. I bought a bed because I thought I was getting a good deal at $960 down from their "sticker price" of $1750... Well I recently was in a bed store and saw the EXACT SAME bed - manufacturer same, everything same - for LESS than the SALE price!!! it was $899 regular price at this store.
Nonetheless, I HATE the fact that they RAISED their prices to turn around and put SALE prices on things... I would have loved to have seen the prices BEFORE the sale to see how much they increased these prices.
I would hate to say that they were doing bad business practices!!! HMMMM - I kinda feel taken for a ride... Oh well what's a guy to do?
