Disclaimer:  i am a afternoon 'regular' at horan's

I will get to my pros and cons in a sec but first to address a previous comment by Christiana S.   "What kind of ruins this place for me is how some of the clientele leaves a little to be desired."
Now i will agree with you that the evening clientele does leave a bit to be desired but ALL of the 'clientele' on Madison St. in the EVENING leaves a little bit to be desired.  My point is don't go anywhere near Madison St. in the evening if drunken idiot db's aren't your thing.

Now then about Horan's.  I have been coming into this place since 2002.  The food is consistent and basic.  the soups are excellent.  the corned beef samich is the 'must try' here. I'm a big fan of the meatloaf myself. Annie and Glenda have been waitresses here forever and will take good care of you . unfortunately they take such good care of you that the other waitresses look bad.  Is Horan's a dive?  probably.  just remember that like most places on Madison St.  this is a bar that serves food not a restaurant that has a bar

Horan's is the place you go when you want to just have a drink and be left alone. The beer garden is great - unlike the one down the street, which is tiny and doesn't always get much sun. The bartenders are nice and the waitress will take care of you like you're her own once you become a regular.  The food is good for the price, and if you like karaoke (I'm personally not a fan) they have a pretty good setup on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

All around a good place to hang out, but it's not the sort of place where I'd dress up to find someone to bring home.

    BAR 1
The starting place to what was going to be a marathon night of drinking and nothing but pain in the morning... it's the price you pay for a buddy who's about to get married. Keep in mind that there were at least 40 of us and each bar you read about was notified that we were coming and it's a Saturday night. I would hope a good manager would adequately staff their bar... but no.

All I have to say is thank god we didn't base our evening's energy on the 1st bar because it would have been a terrible night... just like Horan's. I normally don't mind dark, dismal, dank, dirty bars, but Horan's wasn't dark. It was all the other d words but not dark... think about that for a moment. Oh and they served a full menu of food... think about what you're eating!

I won't even get into the slowest bartender ever and we weren't even all there yet. I will say that they have a decent size beer garden (but honestly I would recommend bottles instead of what's on tap), drinks are cheap, they have specials every night of the week, and they have karaoke.

I'd say Horan's has above-average bar fare.  The fried jumbo shrimp is worth every penny of the $12 ticket.  We stumbled in last Friday and had the all-you-can-eat perch fish fry.  It's not Duke of Perth or Irish Mill, but pretty tasty.  If you don't like fish, try the corned beef.  I give it 3 1/2 stars.

The outdoor patio/beer garden is nice and sunny during the Spring and Autumn months.  It may not be the classiest place, but I'd say it's an "above-average" dive bar with better food and service than Doc's...anyone?  Bueller?

This is one of my favorite dive bars on Madison.  It's usually not very crowded, the bartenders are pretty congenial, the jukebox is decent, the food isn't bad, and there's darts.

What kind of ruins this place for me is how some of the clientele leaves a little to be desired.  I once had some guy start screaming at me because I didn't want to go home with him after he bought me a single shot.  (I wouldn't have gone home with him even if he had bought me bottle service at Reserve.)  On another occasion, an off-duty waitress tried to start a fight with me because she thought the (married) owner was being a little too hospitable to me and my girlfriends.   And so on.....

Still, an okay place to start a Forest Park bar crawl.  Just don't end it there.

Went there only because someone was having a party in the beer garden.  The food was good and overall a nice atmosphere outside. Don't remember the  drinks, I think I only had beer.
Otherwise I would not have gone, it's not very appealing from the outside.  Service was pretty good.

Horan's doesn't exist any more, it is now Duck Fat Grill and is somehow classier despite the name.

Good food, responsible prices, and great friendly service.  We went with a large group so they opened the back room for us and threw us the remote for the tv.  Places was mostly empty so we could actually talk and hear unlike most places on Madison.  Corned beef is the way to go.

Quinticential dump - no disrespect intended! The food is great, awesome value, and you feel welcome from the minute you get there.  I have always enjoyed the specials on the menu and the reuben sandwich.

A bit of a dive, but leaves the dump murphy's at the start line.
    Food is not bad.

Real good bar for cheap beer and taking the edge off.

I can totally appreciate the local neighborhood bar, but definitely got the feel they don't want anyone else intruding on their area.

Food was average bar food, service was ok, but the Coors light in the bottle was done to perfection.

Too many choices close by for me to stop back anytime soon.

So, St. Patty's this year was a Tuesday...and 70 degrees....wooo hooo! (Need I say more?) So, as I was driving home from work, I thought, "I'm Irish...I need a Guinness...and an outdoor patio!" I found this place by accident. I had searched some "other" places nearby, but I called and they didn't have their patios open! So, as I drove down Madison, this place caught my eye and I pulled over right away! They had a limited menu for the holiday which was all meat. When I told the waitress that I'm a vegetarian, she said, "Let me find out if they can make you a grilled cheese.." WOOOO HOOOOO (again, need I say more? A Guinness AND a grilled cheese? I thought I saw a rainbow and a pot o' gold!) So I really liked the vibe - a really diverse crowd and everyone was nice. No silly drunken antics. I will def go back. I would like to see their regular non-holiday menu and soak up some more of that outdoor patio vibe!

One star for the outdoor seating another for having bags.  Minus three stars for putting water in our beer pitchers THREE TIMES.

I have never been in the beer garden but this is the worst bar on Madison St...full of worn out drunks with attitudes.
