7 reviews for Hoover Park
This is one of my favorite neighborhood parks. It's intimate and kind of tucked away, so it's without all the hustle and bustle of larger parks like mitchell. There are two tennis courts which are OK, but typically are covered in leaves. There is a broom, but for some reason it is locked up. I'm not sure why, because I don't think most of the public is prone to broom related thefts. It's not even a regular broom, its a goofy flat one specifically for tennis courts, but I digress..... The courts were resurfaced recently, so they're in pretty good shape. This is my go-to place for a quick game of tennis.
There are really nice fields here as well, so it's fun to watch all the little kids playing baseball. There are two nice playgrounds, one geared more for younger children, and another geared for a bit older.
Dog Park:
I like this dog park because it is really close to my house. However, it is very small and not as frequently used as other local dog parks. There are a couple of benches and there isn't any grass (just dirt), but there are usually very nice dogs/owners who visit.
I love this park, it has lots of grass to lay out on or play various sports, plus a little league field, tennis courts, racquetball courts, 2 playgrounds, bathrooms, barbecues and tables. Basically anything you could ask for in a park, plus it is never very crowded. This park makes me enjoy living in the suburbs and eases the regret of having to move from San Fran.
I walk or run by Hoover Park pretty regularly and watched its renovation this summer. Like many others in Palo Alto, it's in pristine condition and a very refined place to get in your playground time.
Definitely not one of the bigger parks in the area, but it's got everything you'd need for a small group outing: couple of fields, two tennis courts, nice play structure, bathrooms and a dog run.
Another big benefit for parents of little kids: unlike many of the larger PA parks, Hoover is located on a quiet street and the playground is set several yards further back, so toddler watching is a lot more pleasant than it can be.

After way too much work to find a place for a b-day bbq, this turned out to be the perfect solution. It's a great size park, very clean, great dog park, ample parking, nice playground, and perfect amenities (restrooms, grills, trash, & tables.)
Best part - no reservations ! Unlike a majority of Palo Alto and Redwood City parks that get reserved months in advance, Hoover park has 3 great areas open to the public.

I grew up playing in this park. There is a fake creek that does not run water, though, I did see a little bit of water come out from a fountain. I don't think that was supposed to happen because it was a really sad looking creek. Anyways, one large rock that sits at the top of the creek is crescent shaped. Some days, if you're little, you can lay on that and seriously take a nap. I did a couple times when I was about 7-13 years old.
The playground closer to Cowper is more geared towards toddlers and early school age kids. The one closer to Middlefield is aimed for school age and up.
It's a great place to hold parties, picnics, softball games, sloshball games, relay race games. It's suitable for reasonable games for groups of people. You might have to be careful when you're walking in the grass between the redwood trees and the softball field because most of the time, the grass is soggy (probably because that area gets too much shade).
The dog park go renovated, so it's roomier with nice benches.

We went here for a friend's baby shower. Found out they don't take reservations and one of their friends had to show up at 7am to save 4 tables and some other people wanted them for their party! Crazy.
The party was from 11-2pm, we stayed for 2 hrs. They had catered food so no need to bbq, though I did see a BBQ pit. Garbage cans available and separate men/women bathrooms and drinking fountains available. Heard there were no soap though.
Overall, a good location for a party.

Hoover Park is one of the best parks in Midtown, along with Mitchell Park. Hoover Park has not one but *two* playgrounds for kids, a baseball diamond, and concrete walls for tennis practice.
There are two features of Hoover Park that make it truly unique -- the dog area, and the fake creek.
I'm told the fake creek was turned off after the drought in the 70's. It has never been used in a long time, though as a kid I always wondered if there wasn't some hidden valve somewhere that would turn it back on again. It's the most unique feature of this park, and I still wonder...
